@Figtree11 when it’s happened before you just have all of these worries that pile up don’t you! Fingers crossed that won’t be the case for you.

Glad it’s treatable x

thank you x

Figtree11 · 05/12/2024 12:36

@DaringlyDizzy not sure, but reckon 4 hours is enough

@Superscientist will be thinking of you next week. How are you doing? I hope you are holding up as well as you can.
I am being tested for something called anticoagulant too, which im waiting to hear back from. It’s so weird being told I could have this, as I feel fit & healthy and never had any health issues before! I guess I’ll get some more info in 2 weeks when I have the next consultant appointment. Yeah I’d read about the results fluctuating - I don’t know what I’ll do if suddenly they say my next result is negative! But based on what my level was, she seemed pretty confident I have it as it was way over the limit.

@Blueskies4 yeah I think it’s impossible to not worry. At the moment all I can focus on is there being a reason I’m not ovulating or getting pregnant. If hopefully I do, my worries will just transfer onto potential miscarriage. It really is draining

Thanks @Figtree11
I'm feeling pretty awful. I have been off work for the last 2.5 weeks with sickness and fatigue. This week I have had a horrid cold too. I'm ready to get back into the real world again but need to wean myself off my afternoon naps!

There are three phospholipid/coagulents with confusing and complicated names - one is the lupus anticoagulant which is a coagulant! How they come up with these names I don't know! Any of the three or multiple of them can be raised. I think my dad had one possibly two raised. The lupus anticoagulant was ok and he had no signs of lupus but it is much more common in women than men. They need to run all the necessary tests before treatment as being on blood thinners messes up the results. My dad had to be stable on the warfarin before they could take him off the warfarin to rerun the tests to confirm the aps.

I was tested before having my daughter, before my dad was undiagnosed, but I think I will look at getting tested again. My levels were normal at the time but they can change with time.

Just joining in after a second missed miscarriage. Would love to hear his soon others tried again/how you felt about it? I am on clomid to stimulate ovulation so can't start that again until I have a period but I probably will ovulate myself before then and really torn about trying then. If I go for it I know I'll spend all of Christmas symptom spotting and hoping for a BFP when we're in Spain for new years. I don't really want to wait but feel like it might be better to give my head and body a break for a few weeks. Totally all of the place to be honest!

Im so sorry for your losses.
My story is quite extreme as in the last 2 years Ive had two early mc's and unfortunately I lost my twins last Christmas at birth. One Born sleeping and my other was a Neonatal death at 4 days old. But it was all just horrific bad luck. Just the unlucky odds of miscarriage early and with my twin sons, sadly identical twins are very high risk. Unlucky again.

However in terms of trying again, after my second mc, I got pregnant straight away with my beautiful twins. Perfect pregnancy bar the high risk and unfortunately we had 1% chance of what happened to them - sadly we hit the 1%

I did try again soonish after my twins died as I was 33 last year and once they said my section was healed I went for it. It did take 8 months to conceive again which I put down to hormones and terrible grief naturally. But I'm now 20 weeks with a little girl.

I think it's really important to be in the right headspace. Obviously dh and I were in the horrors this whole year and trying again really consumed me while I was trying to come to terms with my twins death and realising I'd be visiting a grave every Christmas not santa. So I think you are right in allowing yourself to grieve and process things and then start again properly. Wishing you all the luck in the world.

Hi @Figtree11 I know a bit about aps my dad was diagnosed a few years ago with it after a Tia. He was later undiagnosed with it after repeat tests showed negative results. When you are ready I'm happy to talk about what I learnt from my reading.

It looks like I'm heading back over here. I had a scan 2 weeks ago at what should have been 7+3 but was 6 weeks. Rescan this morning and there's been growth but not consistent with 2 weeks and no heartbeat. Given I should be either 9+4 or 8 weeks depending on lmp or previous scan I've been told to prepare to lose the pregnancy. They are rescanning next week to confirm.

I only saw this now @Superscientist apologies as I've been in and out of the thread. There's no words really that I know that will ease your worry, but thinking of you and I hope you get answers soon. Xx

I'm doing well @Ncl31 thanks very much. Hope you are doing ok too. Run up to Christmas is so busy and before I knew it, there's over a 100 new posts on here. How are you? Xx

Blueskies4 · 08/12/2024 07:28

@TrulyMiss welcome, I’m sorry to hear about your missed miscarriages 😔

I was told to wait 3 months after my first MC by midwife’s and got pregnant straight away with my DC. I then had another MC in 2022, I tried again the following month and conceived. Sadly that pregnancy ended in miscarriage too and we had a break over Christmas before TTC again.. I got pregnant when we started trying again and lost that baby at 13 weeks. I was then asked to stop by doctors whilst I had tests, they all came back normal but I haven’t got pregnant since (although we’ve taken a break here and there for various tests/reasons). Sorry not the most compelling of stories but I guess just a real mixed bag!

Hoping once you’re ready to TTC it happens quickly for you 🙏🏼

I’m okay I guess. Absolutely dreading Christmas this year. It should have been our first Christmas as a family, instead I’ll be thinking of my baby we lost on Christmas Eve last year. I was hoping I’d be pregnant again just to make it easier.
AF due on 15th December so still got one final chance before the end of the year.

That's so hard, @Ncl31 would you do something different for Xmas. Ive decided to do something different with dh as it would have been my sons first proper Christmas too. I'll be crossing every finger for you for this month.

We’re going to my parents as usual. My younger brother has had a difficult few years battling alcohol and drug addiction and is making lunch for us all together as a family. He’s missed out on Christmas properly for so many years. He’s a top chef so I know lunch will be amazing. im tryifn to focus on that for him as I know how much it means to him us all being together. However, it was immediately before lunch at my parents last year that I started bleeding.

That food sounds amazing. That will be so hard though. My advice also would be, be prepared people might not be as tuned in to your feelings as you are. I've noticed that with my own loss and that can be hard particularly at Christmas. Take care of yourself

Babydust99 · 10/12/2024 20:49

Hi everyone, I'm back again. Still no bfps for over a year now. Been for fertility testing and we both got really good results which at least is something. @Figtree11 I have APS

TrulyMiss · 12/12/2024 11:47

Does anyone have experience of medical management for a miscarriage that didn't fully work? I bled a lot so thought it would be fine but it's two weeks later and I'm still spotting and cramping. Also still strong positive on a pregnancy test. Back in hospital tomorrow and just wondering what to expect?

Superscientist · 12/12/2024 12:26

Sorry I don't personally @TrulyMiss but a friend needed the tablets 3 times to complete her miscarriage and took 2-3 months to get her negative test.
It took 3 weeks with my last miscarriage to get a negative test. I had my HCG monitored every week. At 1.5 weeks my HCG was 180 and 2.5 weeks 20.

My miscarriage was confirmed this morning. I started bleeding last night. I have gone for wait and see for now. In August I passed the pregnancy with a day of the bleeding starting. They are going to phone me in Monday and if I haven't passed the pregnancy I'll go in for management. I think I'll go with the medication. It was quite obvious when I passed the pregnancy so I'm hoping I get the same.

It's hard to know what to do for the best.

I'm being referred to the reoccurring miscarriage clinic, as I'm over 35 they will accept referrals after just 2 miscarriages. They said they won't do any testing until 12 weeks after a miscarriage. Does anyone if this is standard or if we could get the tests earlier elsewhere? I assume it's to allow you to return to normal post miscarriage. I'm feeling the pressure of time. It took 8 months to start TTC because I was on meds unsuitable in pregnancy and now had 2 miscarriages this year.
I would like testing for aps as my dad possibly has it, not currently diagnosed but has been previously and my thyroid levels as I was on lithium for 2 years and that can cause issues with your thyroid. Depending on the cost I would consider going private if it saved on time.

I had medical management in July and it did work but just to reassure(?) you I was also still getting obvious positives on tests 2 weeks after. When I was 3 weeks I had a fainter line but still definitely there so I called EPU and they did a HCG blood test and were happy that it was very low and just taking time to reduce to 0. They didn’t actually rescan me, but I had ended up in A&E due to the volume of bleeding (I was fine, just a precaution) that they didn’t see the need?
Hopefully they will be able to give you some answers as to whether it’s incomplete or just taking time to reduce. Sending hugs.

Figtree11 · 12/12/2024 14:23

@Superscientist thanks for all your advice on APS.
And I am so so sorry you’ve had a miscarriage confirmed today. It’s too cruel. I don’t know for sure, but I presume the 12wk wait for tests is so all pregnancy hormones are out of your system. I’m not sure how long the wait is in your area, but I had to wait 6 months for my first appt after being referred

OP posts:
Babydust99 · 12/12/2024 15:40

@Superscientist you need to wait 12 weeks for the tests because the tests for APS must be a minimum of 12 weeks after the end of a pregnancy to be accurate. If those tests are positive they also test them again 12 weeks later and if still positive, then you get a diagnosis. I know it's a long, horrible wait but if it gives you answers then it's worth it.

Superscientist · 12/12/2024 15:41

Thanks @Figtree11 that was my thinking. March seems such a long way away!
The leaflet I got said waits range from 2 months to 2 years depending on area so we'll see!
If it is a long wait I might see what my GP can offer in terms of tests. They tested me for aps before TTC my daughter which was negative but levels can change. I was also having my thyroid levels checked every 6 -12 months before stopping the lithium in March this year so they could possibly check it from that angle without waiting for the appointment to come through.
So much waiting around though! It's harder than the loss. We've known the pregnancy was unlikely to stick for 3 weeks and have done the processing emotionally of the loss and feel ready to move on but really just at the start of the physical loss.

Superscientist · 12/12/2024 15:53

Thanks@Babydust99 that's what I thought but hoped wouldn't be the case! 😆

Babydust99 · 12/12/2024 15:57

@Superscientist no probs. If you do it earlier it could be a false positive and will be disregarded and retested anyway 🙈
