TTC #1 no previous pregnancies cycle #6 - looking for others in the same boat!

MocktailMe · 10/06/2024 11:59

Hi all.

As per the title, TTC first baby, I've never had a confirmed pregnancy before. I'm 31, bf is 27.

Been trying to conceive 9 months, but due to PCOS only 6 cycles.

This year I've lost weight, and my cycles since January have varied from 28 days to 38 days. Had PCOS confirmed, and currently waiting for an appointment with gynaecologist to see if I need further assistance. Appointment is taking its sweet time so for now doing it the old fashioned way still with plenty of hope (at least some days, not so much others!!!).

I'm currently on cycle day number 28, negative tests, no signs of a period in sight, CM up to my eyeballs and a whole heap of doubt over when ovulation occured!!

If you are :

TTC #1
A woman who has never been pregnant
Pissing on sticks at an ALARMING rate
Potentially with PCOS but healthy ovaries welcome 😁

Then PLEASE join my thread, so in need of buddies in a similar boat! ⛵

No offence to those TTC #2 or more, genuinley ❤️ just hoping to speak to people who also have no idea what pregnancy would feel like, and who also maybe have the fear they CANNOT ever get pregnant ❤️

I don’t know @MocktailMe - it’s still quite early and I feel like if there is something there then that’s a positive. I’m really keeping my fingers crossed for you.

CharLdn · 19/08/2024 10:33

@Tater05 re caffeine and drinking I’m still drinking but trying to not go mad.

Like I’ll have 2-3 small glasses of wine but that was last week literally on holiday. We’ve been trying for now 9 months and I just think that cutting everything out now just adds to the stress of it all.

I probably drink about 6 drinks a week max over 2 days..

I also take ADHD medication which you shouldn’t take when pregnant but when I’m unmedicated I eat way less healthily and am more likely to make impulsive decisions about drinking etc. So I’m basically going to take it till I’m preggo.

@MocktailMe - sounds like a rollercoaster sending hugs :( I’d listen to your body and see how it goes over the next week or so everything still crossed.

We all seem to be quite synced with our cycles!

@lavafield good luck for the next few days ❤️

lavafield · 19/08/2024 10:36

@MocktailMe I was about to say that when I googled line progression pics a lot of them show very faint lines up until 12-13 DPO and you need to read the test by 10 min mark. I saw one that showed the line almost disappearing on one morning before showing up again in the evening. So there is still hope! 🌟 There was a lady in another thread who was showing very faint lines coupled with bleeding for a few days and ended up being pregnant!

ToomanyBFNs · 19/08/2024 10:43

@MocktailMe is it worth trying one of the early detection pregnancy tests? They may show better results if it needs less hcg to get a decent line?

Tater05 · 19/08/2024 10:57

@MocktailMe my fingers are crossed for you, remember you're not out until AF arrives and 10/11dpo is still early.

@CharLdn that's very similar to me, I'll have maximum a bottle of wine over a weekend and that's it for the week. I don't think I could cut everything out while ttc, that would be too much! Plus family will start getting suspicious if I'm turning wine down every time

MocktailMe · 19/08/2024 11:41

@lavafield I've got everything crossed for you too as we are in the same time frame I believe!

Glad the consensus is to enjoy life ladies - those of you that do drink I hope you all enjoy a lovely wine on the weekend - we bloody earn it going through all this!

I've currently got cramps and lower back pain. Feels like it usually does when AF arrives (except the back pain I don't usually have that) but I'm not expecting my period til the weekend. With PCOS though there's never any certainty - I could easily start today.

I will be testing again but I'm not going to buy any expensive tests until the weekend if my period actually hasn't come by then. The internet cheapies are apparently 10 sensitivity (reviews are all over the shop though - false positives a plenty and false negatives too), an FRER is 6 so would be more accurate but I can't take the additional pressure of purchasing that for a tenner or so and then seeing another negative. At least with the cheap strips I've got about 50 of them so it's not as big of a deal to use them in my head (hope that makes sense 😅)

@MocktailMe thats totally fair enough. Well keep us posted!

Fingers crossed for you too @lavafield

MocktailMe · 19/08/2024 10:21

Right, I posted that within about 2 minutes of taking the test and it was indeed stark white. By around the 5/6 minute mark a really super faint shadowy line appeared and stayed. I really am not convinced it's not just an indent line or maybe even a shadow.

Either way, by 10/11 dpo most women on here seem to have proper lines, just fainter than the control, but obvious at least. If I showed my BF I doubt he would even see this. I can barely see it myself.

I wish I hadn't tested early as I had got my hopes so high.

Ooh this is exciting! I didn't have a very clear line at 10/11 dpo with mine!
Don't lose hope, test again in the morning x

MocktailMe · 20/08/2024 14:25

Well it's now either 11/12 DPO and my tests are completely blank. Had bad cramping all yesterday evening, so probably will come on soon.

I think I must have just had some dodgy tests these internet cheapies aren't famed for their accuracy. Used a clear and simple test strip this morning always rated very highly and was totally and utterly blank.

This was my last month to try prior to the hysterosalpingogram, and also the 12th month. So now it has officially been a year of trying which means I officially hold the title of infertile, as by definition that means trying unsuccessfully for a year.

I really hope one of you has much better news this month ❤️ I'd love to see the first pregnancy amongst us all!

So sorry to hear that @MocktailMe, false hope you didn't need ❤

I hope you get some answers to move forward with now that you can get some support from your GP

ToomanyBFNs · 20/08/2024 16:19

So sorry @MocktailMe. What a rollercoaster.

At least you have next steps in with some healthcare professionals. Hopefully that gives you some comfort that there’s a plan outside of the trials to trying naturally month on month. We’ve decided that we are going to press forward with next steps through a clinic next month when it inevitably doesn’t work this cycle and I’m looking forward to getting that process started to be honest.

MocktailMe · 20/08/2024 16:32

Thanks guys.

I agree, knowing the professional help is getting underway does make me feel better. The thought of having to simply keep trying naturally over and over getting nowhere makes me feel hollow inside.

Once I've had this procedure done (which can boost fertility in and of itself) I've been told I can be prescribed clomid which is fantastic as I'm really hoping that might be just what I need. You're only allowed to take that for 6 cycles, and I'm going to ask for IUI for at least one of them.

Past that, the road is clear to IVF. Either way, by this time next year I'll have either used my 6 cycles and be undergoing IVF, or i will be pregnant.

Seems a better use of the next 12 months than the last 12 have been!!! Although I did make some progress with fertility support in that time, so it wasn't a totally wasted year.

lavafield · 21/08/2024 08:16

@MocktailMe sorry to hear it hasn't happened naturally for you in 12 months , but you are absolutely right in saying the next 12 months will be much more productive and you have a concrete plan in place! I am confident one of these steps will get you pregnant!

I have had only BFNs and it is 11 DPO so I am very likely to be out this month.

We only managed to DTD once in fertile period already on the day of ovulation so hope next month we will be more active. DP did already comment that timing it up to an hour is putting pressure on him and we are only in month 4 trying .. 🥹

I think if nothing happens in the next two months, we will activate plan B with detailed investigations etc. as for my age group it is recommended after 6 months of trying. I feel trapped because I was also told by a fertility specialist that IVF with own eggs isn't recommended at my age, and that not many UK clinics will even take me, so that would have to be done in Greece, Czechia or Spain etc. Then there is also of course the donor egg route as a last resort measure, but on the positive side, she said trying naturally for the time being could be the best course of action for now

MocktailMe · 21/08/2024 10:58

@lavafield you have a concrete plan in place too!

I agree unlikely now for you this month, but deffo get the ball rolling. IVF abroad is so much cheaper and I've read amazing things about clinics in Greece. Worse ways to get pregnant than on holiday in Greece right?? I'm firmly of the opinion the woman raising the baby is the mother so donor options could be a great way to get your dream. I'm open to the idea myself but been told shouldn't be necessary at 31.

Period came this morning as expected,, so here's to September!

@MocktailMe

Good morning all. Been quiet as went away and happened to be ovulating so I hoped! ‘Fake’ period didn’t arrive as predicted yesterday so I used a clear blue test and got a positive 🥹

Feeling all the emotions now but mostly worried and scared hoping this isn’t too good to be true! Going to call my GP Tuesday.

Sorry if this may be triggering for anyone, please look after yourselves!

I am not sure if it was the supplements I’d been taking (inofolic alpha) as recommended by a specialist or just good timing. I got a positive OPK the day before holiday and had sex the day after and the next day (not the day of the peak).

Will post an update when I have seen my GP.

Good luck to everyone who is on this journey ❤️

I'm 38 and have pcos. Rarely had a period and never ovulated. There's lots if options OP so try to relax and stay hopeful. They might try you on metformin, clomid ect . If all else fails then ivf. Try taking inositol, highly recommended for pcos. Even some gynaes recommended it.
Currently have a 2 month old baby so stay positive

VioIetMoon · 25/08/2024 13:41

@lavafield how old are you?

lavafield · 27/08/2024 08:20

Good morning everyone! @KTB34 huge congratulations! Wishing you a smooth pregnancy! I am sure a holiday and a relaxed state of mind played a role!

@VioIetMoon I am 42. I have no known issues, ovulate every month, all hormones have been checked, and above-average AMH for my age group. I started taking CoQ10 3 months ago so hope this will improve the egg quality. We have only been trying 4 months really, so I am trying not to be too stressed just yet!

KTB34 · 27/08/2024 08:23

@lavafield thank you so much! I think the rest and relaxation helped (I have a very stressful job).

We started TTC in Feb so wishing you lots of luck!! I guess we caught at the right time on this occasion!

MocktailMe · 27/08/2024 13:35

Congratulations @KTB34 you must be over the moon. 7 months trying and I know it will have felt a lot longer than that. Sounds like you timed it all well.

I've just left another appointment at the hospital - swabs taken and been given the sample kit for my partners semen analysis. There's a long wait for his test though - booked for the end of November - the very first appointment available.

My hysterosalpingogram should be able to go ahead late September time now, and once that is complete, and my partners sperm analysis is done we will be eligible for clomid. I've been advised we are eligible for one free round of IVF on the NHS should the clomid fail for us, that will likely be next summer if so.

Still taking the Metformin, side effects have settled down somewhat now, and given my last cycle lasted 30 days I assume it is working somewhat.

@MocktailMe thank you so much!

Sorry to hear you’re going through all of this! I hope you get the answers you need!

Me and my Husband had some tests done scans, analysis etc but we paid private we were too inpatient to wait 😂
