TTC #1 no previous pregnancies cycle #6 - looking for others in the same boat!

MocktailMe · 10/06/2024 11:59

Hi all.

As per the title, TTC first baby, I've never had a confirmed pregnancy before. I'm 31, bf is 27.

Been trying to conceive 9 months, but due to PCOS only 6 cycles.

This year I've lost weight, and my cycles since January have varied from 28 days to 38 days. Had PCOS confirmed, and currently waiting for an appointment with gynaecologist to see if I need further assistance. Appointment is taking its sweet time so for now doing it the old fashioned way still with plenty of hope (at least some days, not so much others!!!).

I'm currently on cycle day number 28, negative tests, no signs of a period in sight, CM up to my eyeballs and a whole heap of doubt over when ovulation occured!!

If you are :

TTC #1
A woman who has never been pregnant
Pissing on sticks at an ALARMING rate
Potentially with PCOS but healthy ovaries welcome 😁

Then PLEASE join my thread, so in need of buddies in a similar boat! ⛵

No offence to those TTC #2 or more, genuinley ❤️ just hoping to speak to people who also have no idea what pregnancy would feel like, and who also maybe have the fear they CANNOT ever get pregnant ❤️

I know several ladies who got pregnant the moment they relaxed and resigned to the fact that it may not happen and just started to enjoy life etc then boom!
So stress definitely doesn't help!

It was the first month I got OPKs to work and while in the past I thought the EW discharge started for me a couple days before the ovulation, this month it only came on the day of ovulation. I hope my environment wasn't hostile two days before ovulation too! lol but good to know for next month, if this month doesn't work, to make sure to DTD the day after LH peak too. So I would say using OPKs is helping me as I am still trying to make sure the timing is the best we can get.

Good to have a TWW buddy! I won't test until 11 DPO I think for my own sanity.

CharLdn · 13/07/2024 11:50

@lavafield I’ve given up testing at all and figure I’ll test if my periods late. I went out last night and drunk too much wine and now I’ve got hangxiety I’ve ruined my chances even though I’m not even sure if I’ve ovulated yet…

it’s a tricky one because I kind of have the attitude of if I can’t be pregnant I’ll have a drink, but I normally only have 1-2 and last night I got a bit over excited…

Hopefully I’ve not ovulated yet or it won’t make a difference - I’m now overthinking this!

Familyfirst12 · 13/07/2024 12:28

Hi ladies, I feel like I could have written some of these posts myself! I’m 28, ttc our first since about November. PCOS confirmed and have been prescribed Metformin. I generally have fairly regular 35 day cycles. We’re just waiting on a repeat semen analysis for DH but in the interim I have started getting acupuncture. Giving everything a shot at this point🤣. I had a hycosy last week and my tubes are clear (have also heard this boosts fertility for a few months but who knows). I should be ovulating on wed/thurs so it has begun😂 nice to have people on this group in similar situations as I have been having a really hard time with it all the last couple of months Xx

lavafield · 13/07/2024 18:46

@CharLdn I am glad you went out and enjoyed yourself , maybe it was what you really needed. I really don't think you ruined your chances, if it is a one off and before potential implantation etc.

@Familyfirst12 welcome and hope this week is successful for you! 🤞

I am officially 1dpo and we did manage to DTD one more time on day of ovulation (though definitely on the end side of it) as I felt better. Hope my virus or whatever is doing rounds this summer didn't ruin our chances!

CharLdn · 13/07/2024 21:04

Welcome @Familyfirst12 great to have you!

D23 · 13/07/2024 21:29

Hi, I’m also TTC #1 been trying 2 and a half years (since coming off microphone pill)
I’m 33, husband is 34 and has a 9 year old daughter from previous relationship.
We’ve both done the necessary tests. All is looking good.
Although I’ve been told one of my ovaries is polycystic, so I have PCO but not PCOS, I didn’t even know just PCO was a thing and I’m not really sure of the difference tbh. But I was told that having PCO shouldn’t affect me getting pregnant.
I had a hycosy last month, tubes were not blocked, but unfortunately didn’t get pregnant this month.
I take multi vitamins (not pregnancy ones), CoQ10 and folic acid.
Is there anything else I can do?
I feel like time is running out for us, my husband has always said he doesn’t really want kids after 35.

MocktailMe · 15/07/2024 09:15

Hi everyone!

@CharLdn I truly wouldn't worry too much about the drinks. It's not something that often crops up for me, as I only drink maybe 4 or 5 times a year, but if an occasion popped up where I was wanting to drink TTC wouldnt stop me, I now have FOUR pregnant coworkers currently all of whom young and not trying and were drinking heavily as a lifestyle. The odd night in a generally moderated life surely can't make much difference!

@D23 from what I'm aware of PCO just means you have polycystic ovaries but don't have any of the hormonal imbalances that can stop your body oluvating properly. This is good news! Id be reassured somewhat by the fact that your husband has a child as should mean nothing wrong his end.
Perhaps you could suggest to him that, rather than a age limit, you have a trying limit? Ie. Once you've tried naturally for X time, used fertility drugs for X time and tried IVF twice etc you'll stop. Seems a fairer compromise as waiting lists can speed you through a year without even blinking.

@Familyfirst12 nice to have you here! Me and you sound incredibly similar. How are you getting on with the Metformin? I've been on it a week now and generally feel less hungry/cravings for savoury only but the gastronomical side effects are not great and I think it's mostly that affecting my appetite. Started taking it right before bed and think that helps!

OP posts:
Familyfirst12 · 15/07/2024 14:26

@MocktailMe so similar! I'm not entirely sure that I have noticed a difference, I have felt slightly sick at points but other than that I've not really noticed anything - due to the fact that I'm almost certain my pcos isn't insulin resistant, I'm not really expecting it to do anything, but maybe that's just me being negative!😂
I'm so nervous for this fertile window - I find after I've had a few days of feeling gutted when my period starts, I can generally put TTC to the back of my mind (to a point) and then when my fertile window approaches, it's all I think about for the next 2/3 weeks and then inevitably have the heartbreak of coming on my period again. I feel like I'm bracing myself for it already and feeling so consumed and down about this whole situation. It's so bloody hard

MocktailMe · 16/07/2024 01:56

@Familyfirst12 I could have written every word of that! My mental cycle is exactly the same - first devastation then I almost forget about it entirely, tell myself I'll be more sensible next month not get so worked up....then two weeks pass and I'm back to it being the ONLY thought on my mind!

I'm getting seriously down about the whole thing.

OP posts:
Familyfirst12 · 16/07/2024 11:28

@MocktailMe Unfortunately I don't think I can make it any easier for you or offer any words wisdom but I can say you're not alone. I have had a really tough time of it the last few months. I CONVINCED myself last month that I was pregnant. I had promised myself not to test until missed period and I really felt I had symptoms. I got so excited only to wake up on day of predicted af to temp drop.. stood up to get out of bed absolutely gutted about bbt and immediately came on my period. I sobbed for hours and literally felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. Last month was the hardest by far and it really did take me a week to properly 'get over it'. I was constantly on the brink of tears and just generally a shell of myself. Told myself I wouldn't get that excited again and I'm really trying hard to manage expectations this month. I'm so sorry that you're obviously feeling terrible too - this whole journey is so relentless and cruel. I am due to ovulate tomorrow/Thurs so in the depths of dtd every day/every other... the joys! X

MocktailMe · 18/07/2024 23:39

@Familyfirst12 thank you and I'm sorry I didn't reply. I read it when I was quite upset and it really did help.

How is everyone and where are you all at now?

I'm CD 30 and boobs a bit sore today which usually means due on in around 3-6 days

OP posts:
lavafield · 19/07/2024 09:52

Hi @MocktailMe , hope you are feeling a little better and the new cycle approaching will lift you up!
I am 7DPO, started having usual AF symptoms but I guess as progesterone rises the symptoms are the same whether you conceived or not? I will be very upset if this month is out as we really timed it well this month.. I will test by the end of the weekend I think

Familyfirst12 · 19/07/2024 10:02

@MocktailMe so sorry to hear you’re struggling - sending love and hope for this cycle!! I have had an absolute stinker of a cold/flu over ovulation so have just about lost all hope for this cycle. Think I ovulated yesterday and we dtd yesterday and the 2 days prior but just not got a good feeling. Feeling so rubbish I desperately want it to work this time around😭

lavafield · 19/07/2024 10:12

@Familyfirst12 hope your cold/flu is resolving. I got mine right on the day before ovulation, we still managed to DTD right before it and by the end of it when I felt better but this constant sore throat and cough is also making me think what a bad timing to get ill and it is taking forever , this summer virus.

MocktailMe · 19/07/2024 12:20

I always worry if I'm ill that's why I haven't got pregnant! But I actually know personally some people who conceived whilst isolating with COVID during the pandemic! So I think it doesn't actually rule anything out.

It's very hard to get the timing right. I know what you mean about the devastating feeling when it doesn't work despite knowing you timed it right - it's one of the hardest things I think. Easier to know you just got the day wrong as that's something you can fix next cycle!!!

I'm beginning to feel really despondent due to the fact that if I don't conceive this cycle, that means my next period after this one will likely hit late August/early September. September makes a whole year of trying. I originally had been certain I would be pregnant this summer, even if only a few weeks gone not necessarily ready to pop or with a newborn. If I haven't conceived this time then that's another timeframe id expected been and gone. It's very hard. I'm a big nature lover and spend most of my days off in parks and by lakes or at national trust places etc and I always think how happy I would be pushing my baby round in a pram, or letting them toddle round the play areas etc. it's a strange feeling watching everyone else live your dream and doing all you can to achieve it but having no luck!

I considered avoiding these places as they make me feel inadequate, but I don't enjoy the places that you don't find families, for example city bars/clubs or other drinking places or high end places. I don't want to spend my days off at betting shops and bars just to avoid kids haha but it does make it difficult.

Catching up on this thread now honestly it’s so hard! I’ve had a weird week where my body feels a bit vibes are off - I’ve had twinges and back ache and now I’m bleeding on day 23 - when my period is normally 26 days plus…

I’ve literally just got my period? But part of me thinks it could be implantation bleeding because of the weird signs but I don’t know if I’m making it all up.

It’s such a weird rollercoaster of emotions and it’s so bloody hard! I’ve felt so depressed about it all and hopeless for the last few months. But accepting it’s a process with ups (lol when?!) and downs has helped.

sending massive amounts of solidarity to you all!

MocktailMe · 22/07/2024 03:46

@CharLdn seems very early for a period! Id certainly be testing again If you turn out to only bleed for a short while and doesn't turn into a period.

OP posts:
CharLdn · 22/07/2024 06:50

Update it’s definitely not just spotting I think it’s too early to test and definitely is feeling more like a period so I’m thinking it’s not this month. On the plus side I have a trans vaginal ultrasound on Sunday so it should be over by then…

I think I might need to try opks next month because my ovulation seems to be all over the place..

lavafield · 22/07/2024 08:20

Hi girls,
@CharLdn sorry to hear you fear it is AF visit and not implantation bleeding :(

@MocktailMe I totally get it about visiting nature places you love that are full of children and babies. try to stay positive and visualise myself with a baby in such places one day too, to bring in the right energy lol but I know how hard it is! Especially if month after month nothing is happening ..

I tested 10DPO and it is negative. I have a feeling I am out this month :(

CharLdn · 22/07/2024 17:59

@lavafield feeling your pain with this one. I’m feeling really frustrated this month.

I’m getting my trans vag ultrasound this week and my partners booked infor sperm testing at end of august so hoping for some answers at some point!

I’ve just started taking wild nutrition supplements but it all just feels so pointless if there’s something else going on.

im playing tennis tonight so hopefully I can take it out on the court!

MocktailMe · 22/07/2024 18:15

@CharLdn I know what you mean about feeling things are pointless, it's hard to even feel like it's worth tracking stuff when it just feels like inevitably we will be doing IVF at some point!

I'm CD 34 and I've started spotting. Expect it will turn into my period shortly.

OP posts:
CharLdn · 22/07/2024 21:36

All in the same boat :(

I’m pleased to confirm that playing tennis does appear to solve all my problems and I’m now feeling much better ❤️

Familyfirst12 · 23/07/2024 14:42

I’m 6dpo today and feel like ALL I can think about is whether it’s worked or not this cycle. I am so unfocused at work and keep googling baby products in the evening🤣 I have no symptoms at all and feel no different to any other month so I’m fairly sure it’s not happened and that I’ll be crying again in a few days🫠 so over this whole journey.
@MocktailMe did af arrive for you?
@lavafield sorry to hear about bfn😢 have you tested again today?
I am going to test on Saturday at 10dpo - I waited last cycle until af and didn’t take a single test which I actually found much easier but I have an event on Saturday and want to know if I can have a drink or not. X

lavafield · 23/07/2024 18:28

Hi ladies, still BFN on DPO11 so not sure about this month.. Will keep testing in next few days though! 😂

@CharLdn good luck with your ultrasound, at least you will have a clearer picture of what's going on! Glad tennis helped you feel better! I am trying to keep myself busy this week too, with some gym classes and social events. It helps to not constantly have to think of TTC!

@Familyfirst12 fingers crossed for when you test !

MocktailMe · 24/07/2024 00:12

Yes started late on yesterday evening. Tomorrow will be the last day, my periods are always 3 days like clockwork - it's the rest of my cycle that's all over the shop!
