@Bugdem123 good to hear that your flow is more reassuring this time round and hopefully one less thing to worry about! My next period will be my third after the miscarriage so hoping it resolves itself too by then as the two I've had have been very light.

CluelessInLondon · 18/12/2023 17:19

@Vic231 @GeorgeR28 Fingers crossed for some New Year BFPs on this thread!

@Wise0wl I'm glad to hear that the MVA went well and I hope it's a quick recovery so you can concentrate on healing emotionally. ❤

@Bugdem123 That's good that you feel things are getting back to normal and you're feeling okay about AF arriving - at least with Christmas coming there's always stuff to distract from TTC, and lots of things to enjoy that would be on the banned list if you were pregnant!

Oxalis00 · 18/12/2023 17:23

@Wise0wl I’m glad you’ve been able to move on with the physical procedure quickly, and I hope you can take some time to tend to your heart now.

I haven’t yet had private fertility testing but I’ve an appointment booked for 2 weeks time (booked before positive test). Like you I wanted to feel I was doing something. Unsure whether to keep it for now or defer. I wanted to ask about testing for antiphopholipid syndrome (ans my GP mentioned it and it’s a common, fixable reason for MC) and sperm dna fragmentation (because DH is on medication that can cause this). Do you have particular questions/concerns in mind?

HerbaceousPerennial · 18/12/2023 19:50

@Bugdem123 that’s good news that things seem to be settling down. May I ask, how long was it before your period came back? I had what I thought was one about two weeks ago but then I started bleeding very lightly again a few days later and that’s been carrying on. I did have a small amount of retained tissue and it’s possible it’s the tail end of that but no idea really!

@13lucy the doctor basically said to me that if I’d not had a period, I’d definitely not ovulated. So at a guess, I probably ovulate roughly 4-6 times a year on that basis? But it’s so erratic I don’t really know when one’s going to show up 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just keep focusing on the fact I’ve been pregnant twice, so there must be the odd one getting through. It is stressful though, I’m starting to worry about my age as well and that affecting quality as well as quantity

HerbaceousPerennial · 18/12/2023 19:54

Oh and @13lucy no I don’t have any other noticeable symptoms aside from lack of periods, I’m a healthy weight, not hairy etc. But when they ran the bloods my hormone levels are different to normal, plus I have obvious cysts on my ovaries. You need two of the three to be diagnosed with PCOS

Bugdem123 · 18/12/2023 20:00

@13lucy fingers crossed your next one is more normal for you! I was starting to get quite worried. I bled really heavily during my MC so I don't know if I needed more time for my lining to re-establish or if my hormones were out of whack and that's why I was spotting. Never thought I'd say I'd be happy for a heavier period - MCs really do have you thinking the weirdest stuff 😅.

@CluelessInLondon the pate, prosciutto and Prosecco are getting attacked 😂

Bugdem123 · 18/12/2023 20:09

@HerbaceousPerennial it was 5 weeks from MC to my first period and then my second period came 30 days after that but I spotted for about 4 days before it. Both were so light I probably only needed a pad for a day or so and even then wasn't even filling a pad in total. This cycle was only 27 days (my average was 30 days before) but no spotting and a proper flow today.

That must be so draining bleeding for so long. Are you feeling okay in yourself?

13lucy · 18/12/2023 21:25

@HerbaceousPerennial that must be so frustrating when TTC. I came off the pill about a year ago and had 5 or so periods before they stopped for 3 months. It was quite obvious when I ovulated after this as I really felt the hormones and conceived!

From the MMC I've had a few scans and the consultant who did my surgery said I should get pregnant quickly, so physically I think I'm ok but maybe something isnt right hormonally. I've got no idea what's going on.

I've been temping for a few cycles now and can see my pre ovulation temps this cycle are lower and more irratic than the other cycles but not sure if that means anything.

@Bugdem123 it's so easy to get hyper focused on your body when all of this is happening! I also had heavy bleeding with the miscarriage and then MVA which stripped the lining back. I was very similar to you in terms of how light they were.

Wise0wl · 18/12/2023 23:05

I asked about MVAs stripping the lining back @13lucy / @Bugdem123 and the doctor I saw today suggested that wasn’t the case, but after my first MVA I was worried by short cycles/light periods. Do you have any recommendations on what to take to help this?

@Vic231 I think the recurrent miscarriage clinic has a minimum threshold of 3 MCs, though it was suggested today that because of my age and having had 2 MMCs in quick succession that my GP would very likely run some tests.

@samilicious I know it’s anecdotal but with my first (successful) pregnancy we only dtd once that entire month (!) so that gives some evidence to that theory!

@Oxalis00 that’s so helpful, thank you. I’m outskirts of London so can travel relatively easily. I don’t have any specific things to test for though I know I have a retroverted and twisted uterus (following my previous EMCS) so that made me wonder if there might be something in that?

Long day. So very grateful to have this forum where it feels less lonely than it otherwise would, thank you x

HerbaceousPerennial · 19/12/2023 07:30

Thanks @Bugdem123 that’s helpful to know. I’m starting to think it wasn’t a period, just yet more bleeding as my body tries to shift this last bit of tissue - I did think it had gone already though. Who knows? DH was annoyingly cheerful about it and thought it was a good sign but I could do with a break frankly. I’ve started taking iron - annoying as I was in really good physical health when I conceived and honestly I feel a bit run down now. Hopefully just pre-Christmas weariness. I intend to indulge myself!

@Wise0wl if it’s any comfort I have a retroverted uterus too. When I had my scan for retained tissue I got the sonographer to have a good look and talk me through everything and he said retroverted uterus is a very normal variation which doesn’t affect chances of conception or healthy pregnancy. I’m not sure about the twist but hopefully reassuring on the laid back womb.

13lucy · 19/12/2023 08:16

@HerbaceousPerennial @Wise0wl I'm also in the retroverted club! Also told it doesn't affect anything.

@Wise0wl @Bugdem123 all I was told is that it can take a few cycles to get your cycle back to normal but I was actually expecting a heavier period and not a lighter one! I've not done anything differently but had better flow second time round, although still not normal. Good to know it's not just me though.

Still waiting for positive OPK but feeling weird about my temps being lower this cycle. Been DTD every other day for two weeks now and it's getting a bit long! I want to take a break but also don't want to miss an opportunity, it's really getting me down now.

Wise0wl · 19/12/2023 08:46

Thank you @HerbaceousPerennial and @13lucy - glad to know I’m not alone in that club! I’ll ask about the twist, I’ve requested a GP appointment to at least have a chat with someone. @13lucy your commitment to dtd is very impressive! Fingers crossed you get a positive OPK soon.

GeorgeR28 · 19/12/2023 09:36

Hey everyone, probably me just over worrying for nothing as per but I’ve woke up and feel like I’ve got a very bad cold or flu… will this affect my chances of getting pregnant this month? Does anyone know? I’m 4dpo for reference

SnookyPook · 19/12/2023 11:31

@Wise0wl @13lucy @HerbaceousPerennial another in the retroverted womb club! I didn't know until I was quite far along with my DS pregnancy and it didn't affect that pregnancy or birth at all.

Oxalis00 · 19/12/2023 12:11

Hmm, me too on the retroverted uterus! Although I didn’t know it at all with my first pregnancy/birth - maybe it had flipped as it grew. I was only told when being scanned for RPOC. Was too busy worrying about other things to give it much thought! It’s evidently very common though.

@GeorgeR28 I'd be interested to know this too as I had a horrible cold last month!

Wise0wl · 19/12/2023 13:31

It must be more common than I thought, @Oxalis00 & @SnookyPook!

Am veering between being totally fine and feeling completely broken today. My private health insurance doesn’t cover fertility tests or recurrent miscarriage referrals, and my GP has said that whilst they’ll arrange a telephone consult for a chat, we don’t meet the minimum threshold for referral on the NHS yet (which we knew) but given my two MMCs in quick succession EPU said they might consider referring, in conjunction with my age.

I’m so torn between wanting to not waste any time and TTC again ASAP, and knowing that I’m not resilient enough to go through another loss, or more bad news, so not wanting to try at all.

Sorry for the ramble, I hope you’re all having a good week in the run up to Christmas x

Oxalis00 · 19/12/2023 13:58

@Wise0wl I think it’s completely normal and to be expected to feel that range of feelings at this point. This is brand new shock and sadness and you don’t have to decide what’s next just yet. Or you can explore options without committing to anything at this stage. Or you can decide to wait, and recover, and see how you feel in a week/two weeks/etc.

If you want to pursue information, have you had any tests through GP yet? Surely they’ll do basic blood count, thyroid profile, vitamins (D, B12, folate) and hormones (day 21 progesterone) if you haven’t had those already? Def worth asking about NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic referral - my GP knew the new guidelines (after 2 MC if over 35) but unfortunately my local hospital wouldn’t accept. Yours might, who knows. And you can ask them what could be done to support a pregnancy if there was a next time - aspirin, progesterone? And if you don’t feel you’re being taken seriously, see another GP. They can’t necessarily fix anything for you but you deserve to be heard and supported.

Wise0wl · 19/12/2023 14:07

Thank you @Oxalis00 , both for validating how I feel and also for essentially giving me a crib sheet of questions to ask! I’ve requested a telephone appointment with a GP who I’ve only ever been really impressed with, so I’m hopeful that if I ask for at least some of the basic tests then she’ll agree. Thank you. How are you doing? X

Oxalis00 · 19/12/2023 14:16

Add iron stores (ferritin) into that too @Wise0wl ! Others may have other ideas too. I glad you have a GP you feel you can approach - it makes all the difference. I hope you find care and support from them.

I’m doing ok, I think… it’s all very weird but just a waiting game for now. Found out recently a friend is a couple of months pregnant so it would be amazing to have babies at the same time. That gave me a spark of hope and excitement then a bigger pang of worry about what I’d lose if it doesn’t work out for me again. It’s a mixed bag, as we all know!

Wise0wl · 19/12/2023 14:20

Noted, thank you @Oxalis00 (esp as my booking in bloods seem to suggest I’m anaemic, but then I’m not surprised given I’ve been spotting for the best part of 8 weeks?)

I have everything crossed for you. You have to try in hope but hoping is hard. X

Ladyinpink1 · 19/12/2023 17:23

I was away for a break and just catching up on the messages.

Yes I am with you on that @GeorgeR28 , my anxiety couldn't cope with only one or two times either
I hope your tww isn't dragging by x

Welcome @HerbaceousPerennial and I'm sorry for your loss and @13lucy I am sorry for your loss also, I hope you aren't waiting much longer for ovulation x

Oh no @Wise0wl I am so so sorry to hear this, it is so emotionally shocking and devestating when it happens again, I feel so sad for you, am thinking of you, sending love and really hope you have good support around you right now x

I'm sorry af arrived @Bugdem123 but I am glad it's a better more normal period, hoping that means good things for this cycle because your hormones are getting back to normal. I also had a more normal time with my period that has just past with my pms and pimples that I would normally get but hadn't had in ages it has left me feeling positive for this cycle (only time I'm happy for pimples and mood swings lol) x

Ladyinpink1 · 19/12/2023 17:43

Just read your more recent comments @Wise0wl and they felt so familiar, I was in the same boat as you in August when I had my second mmc, I'm 35, and although my epu put me on the list to have testing done (because of my age I assume) I didn't want to waste any time but also was terrified of it happening again because of something that the tests might have shown.
So I went to the GP and requested as many bloods as they would do (, b12, thyroid antibody etc, they didn't do progesterone though so after reading @Oxalis00 's comment I might phone tomorrow to ask about that) anyway, once all of that came back normal I researched all of the vitamins that could cause miscarriage if lacking and got high doses of all of them and decided to continue ttc. I obviously haven't fallen pregnant yet but I also STILL have not got my appointment with the hospital for the testing. They did prescribe progesterone pessaries to collect at a bfp and take until 16 weeks, so I think again as @Oxalis00 says, you should definitely ask for/push a little for the progesterone too.
Sorry that was so long xx

Vic231 · 19/12/2023 18:36

@Ladyinpink1 I have also been prescribed progesterone from BFP which has left me on a mental quandary since as it makes me question when to test. Do you test early to get the progesterone early or do you wait until AF is late?

That was such a good idea to go to the GP as well! I waited for the clinic but luckily it wasn't too long, I was referred in September and all the testing was done by end of october. I am waiting for the consultant appointment to discuss though which isn't until next week.

@Oxalis00 I've been thinking about you a lot today 🤍

Vic231 · 19/12/2023 18:37

@Ladyinpink1 *wait until AF is late so you're not worrying as long? 🤦🏻‍♀️
