Anyone trying for a 3rd child?

We've started 3 cycles ago trying for our 3rd. I'm going to be 41 soon and both me and DH feel exactly the same about this, feels like going for a 3rd is a bit insane, with all the challenges in logistics, but at the same time it feels like we both really want it ❤️ We're sort of going for a leap of faith... is anyone in the same boat?

Yay @Tessa83, cycle buddies! I saw on another thread a link to a website which gives stats on % pregnant women who get a positive at each DPO. Based on that, I think I'll test at 10dpo and see how it goes 🫣

@AnaReis is your DH due back soon? I hope he is and you'll manage to get busy!

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 02/09/2023 21:01

For anyone testing soon - do NOT buy clearblue! And good luck!

Ive always had positives at 10dpo so I reckon that’s a good point to test, but the longer you leave it the more reliable obviously.

Im CD6 today and it is draggggging. My 5 yo has been really playing up as well and making me question whether we can cope with another! I think it will be much easier when he’s back to school, but I’m struggling a lot with how to deal with low level annoying behaviour - not doing what he’s told without several reminders (getting increasingly annoyed!) and he’s started cheeky backchat as well to add to the endless toilet humour…kill me now!

HappyValleyFan1 · 02/09/2023 22:26

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow I could have wrote that, me and DH have had the same discussion yesterday about if this is good idea or not 😅
DD5 similar at present and so so clingy too. I think it's being out of routine so I'm hoping come Wednesday some normality will resume 🤞

satellitesunshine · 03/09/2023 07:17

got my 2-3 today at 14dpo!! i’m off on holiday so going to try to stop the line progression obsession but i’m happy with this. will try for my 3+ when i’m back in a couple weeks. is anyone else due around may 11 here? xx

@satellitesunshine yay congrats! What a lovely place to be in before holiday ☀️

So peaked yesterday and ovulation predicted today CD21 🤯 had some twinges this morning so already DTD 🤣 can't say we didn't try haha

N8B · 03/09/2023 16:03

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow CD5 and dragging too!

happytobemrsg · 03/09/2023 16:51

Taking a deep breath & tentatively joining you all! I’m 35 & DH is nearly 45. We have 2 DS who are 7 & 4. We will be TTC #3 around Christmas & until then I’ll be working on getting my stress/anxiety levels back under control with yoga & CBT as well as taking FA.

MacNut · 04/09/2023 08:42

Welcome @happytobemrsg!

I did a test this morning 🫣 I'm only 8 or 9 DPO (depending on if I trust FF or premom), anyway it was a stark negative, obviously!

Won't test again until at least Wednesday...

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 04/09/2023 16:23

So DH pulled out when we were dtd on Saturday (it was like cd5…why he still has so little knowledge of biology I don’t know 🤣). He said later he wasn’t 100% sure about no 3 after all. This was after a long couple of weeks of the kids just generally acting up which I totally get, but also FFS. See the bigger picture man!

I was really annoyed with him, told him it wasn’t fair to me to keep changing his mind, also really out of order to announce it me essentially during sex. He was pissed off. I’m pissed off. Then he went away for work on Sunday and is back on Wednesday.

I don’t know what to do/say…for numerous reasons I don’t want the age gap to be too big to the point where if we don’t conceive in the next few months I’d probably accept we need to stop at 2. So I don’t have time for him to waste yet more time thinking about it. We’ve been discussing it for years now. He had said he wanted another.

Obviously I need him to be fully on board but at the same time I’m the one who will give birth, take the mat leave, and I’m the main breadwinner in our family and also the primary carer as DH travels a lot for work so it feels unfair to me that he gets to veto it. (I know I’m being unreasonable really!). Just ranting really. Any ideas for how to discuss it with him sensibly when he’s back (when it will be fw!) would be very welcome!

WhatTheEll · 04/09/2023 16:29

Ahhh @MacNut I'm the same as you! I'd be testing from 8DPO onwards too 🤣

1DPO (I think for me), so if period doesn't arrive before next Tues I'll probably start testing from the.

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow so sorry you're in this predicament. Very unfair that he did that DURING sex!! And you've been discussing it for ages. All I can offer is to talk about how you might feel not having a 3rd. You might regret it or wish you'd tried ♥️
The practicality of a 3rd is obviously a different matter but you will 100% cross and tackle that bridge when it comes to it.
I felt like that about #2 and honestly she's slotted in so well, forget she's here sometimes! Haha. # 3 will be the same xx

AFeastForCrows · 04/09/2023 20:26

Think I’m about 9/10 DPO, did a test this morning which was blindly negative 🤦🏻‍♀️ not sure why I do this to myself but I’m already ruling myself out etc and generally being grumpy already

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow I’m sorry you’re going through that. I admit I keep going backwards and forwards about my age, DH age, current DC etc whereas DH is much more laid back about it all. It’s now fair for your DH to keep changing his mind, so you think he would regret it if the boat sailed and it was too late?

MacNut · 05/09/2023 09:22

So...after doing the test yesterday, I went back to it hours later and could see the squintiest of squinter. Obviously it was way past the timeframe so not reliable. Did another one straight away and the squinter was there within minutes but still suuuuuper faint and not visible in photos. Spent all evening googling evaps etc...

Decided to wait until this morning and do another one... I don't even think they're squinters?!

First photo is today, second photo was yesterday's. I'm 9/10 DPO today

happytobemrsg · 05/09/2023 09:45

@MacNut definitely not a squinter!! Congratulations!! How do you feel??

happytobemrsg · 05/09/2023 09:47

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow That sounds super frustrating. It’s probably a knee-jerk reaction given the tough few weeks you’ve had. I had a chemical between DS1 & DS2. After the chemical DS1 was unwell & it was super tough so I said to DH that I wanted to wait a while. The chemical mess up my O date & I ended up with a BFP the next month! I think give it a couple of days & talk again.

AFeastForCrows · 05/09/2023 09:48

@MacNut definitely not a squinter!! 🥰

WhatTheEll · 05/09/2023 11:55

@MacNut omg congratulations!!! They are great lines ♥️🥳 so happy for you

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 05/09/2023 12:30

Definitely not a squinter @MacNut - congratulations!

Scotmum256 · 05/09/2023 12:58

@MacNut congratulations!! Definitely positive

MacNut · 05/09/2023 13:23

Thanks all. Hasn't really sunk in yet. It's still super early so cautiously excited at the moment.

I feel totally fine. No noticeable symptoms. My temp is still high but this is my first month (since 2016 😅) doing BBT so not sure if that'd be normal for me at this stage.

I have a CB early digi which I'm planning to use tomorrow. Seeing the words might make it feel more real.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

HappyValleyFan1 · 05/09/2023 13:55

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow that's really unfair on you. Can you have another discussion once he's home tomorrow? I think we can both have reservations especially when the kids have been difficult or we're running on little sleep but he does need to think of the bigger picture and be honest with you 🫂

Brilliant @MacNut congratulations 🎉

Ooh I wanted to ask, I can't believe it's not at the forefront of my mind despite 2 years of TTC DC2 but when does everyone do OPKs? It seems a bit of a grey area, I'm going the easy@home ones usually with FMU until I've read something this morning suggested twice between the hours of 10am -8pm as it's more reliable for LH surges 🤦‍♀️

I normally do them from CD9 and then when I see them darken slightly I start testing twice a day until I catch the peak (sometimes 3 times a day!). I use easy@home too 👍🏻
I use FMU and haven't had an issue. It's more about catching the peak and for me it tends to be in the evening.
Apparently a surge is more like over the 12 hours we're asleep

MacNut · 05/09/2023 14:57

@HappyValleyFan1 I used IC OPKs this cycle and found them really good. I tested twice a day from CD10 (based on my average cycle length of 28 days) and when they got much darker, I tested multiple times a day! I've attached my chart which shows OPKs and BBT in case it's helpful

HappyValleyFan1 · 05/09/2023 15:38

Thanks ladies @MacNut @WhatTheEll I usually ovulate on day 18-23 so I get bored of OPKs by then 😅 I'll keep using FMU.
I always have before I just thought hang on have I been doing it wrong all along. This is what I read earlier in case anyone was wondering where it came from premom.com/blogs/how-to-use-ovulation-tests/ovulation-tests-do-s-and-don-ts

Scotmum256 · 05/09/2023 19:00

I'm the same think I've been doing them wrong as read you shouldn't pee for 4 hours . I've done them all different times of the day with no luck so far.

Anyone trying for a 3rd child?
Bey · 05/09/2023 19:24

Hey
can I join? Trying for number 3 for me, 2nd for my partner I have an adult child from a previous relationship and we have a 1 year old together.

Are we crazy? We are both 40 next year, we want the baby to have a sibling close in age as my eldest will be more of an "uncle" type relationship if that makes sense?

we started trying to convince after my last period and I am desperate to test but my period isn't due for a couple of days and it's not regular yet since having baby and I'm still breastfeeding. I'm going to try and await until my period is officially late before I test but it's sooooo hard to wait. I'm constantly symptom spotting I've felt sick yesterday and today but I don't know if that's just because I'm anxious and it's all in my head as I feel it would be too early for morning sickness anyway even if I was pregnant.

I've not long been back at work they are not going to be happy if I'm pregnant again but hey ho.

sending lots of luck and baby dust to all those waiting on a positive result
