Just a lighthearted thread for those of us now considered to be geriatric by the NHS 😂 looking to meet other women TTC who may also be feeling past their prime!

A little bit about me - I'm 36 and TTC dc no.2. Been trying for over 2 years now and depressingly started AF today so am yet again starting CD1. Hubby doesn't quite understand how upsetting this is each month so it'd be great to chat with ladies who get how I'm feeling ❤️

Hi @ttcat37, I hope all goes well at the appointment on Thursday! Depending on what's covered in the appointment cost, they may to an internal scan to look at your antral follicle count and make sure it's in line with your AMH. The private clinics can't refer into the NHS - that can only be done through a GP, but if they give you a magic medicine please pass on the name 😅
It you have a copy of all your blood test results then take them with you 😊

@Jellyfish1956 ! That’s really helpful, thank you. As you can tell, I need people to manage my expectations 😂
I’ll print off all of my cycle dates and test results too so I don’t waste time whilst there.
It’s just an appointment with the consultant on Thursday so I guess she’ll provide me with a plan of action? I don’t think it includes any scans or anything.
I've heard of women with unexplained infertility being put on clomid in order to increase how many eggs are matured in the hope that more decent quality eggs are released. Is that actually a thing? I know I can conceive as we’ve had 3 chemicals since Christmas. I’m guessing she’ll want to see what my womb lining is like at least.

Jellyfish1956 · 11/04/2023 20:11

@ttcat37 that sounds about right! They will
probably give you advice on what they think the next steps would be, and then give you a rough estimation of cost. I'm not sure if they would recommend clomid as you are ovulating and having chemicals so fertilisation is happening - but I know how you feel as I really want to try it too 😅
Nothing wrong with bringing it up as a suggestion! Xx

Stillwinston · 11/04/2023 20:28

Let us know how it goes @ttcat37 , I'm going to call the GP tomorrow and get the ball rolling with my tests 🤞

@AuntFlosmiserableniece I also took evening primrose and starflower oil last cycle and it shortened my LP aswell to 8 days !

NutsandPuffs · 12/04/2023 04:09

Another positive story here! I turn 40 tomorrow…

I am typing this with one hand whilst also breast feeding our five week old miracle rainbow baby girl! She is well worth waiting for! I have low AMH, everything else on all the tests was normal. After five miscarriages and one failed round of IVF I began my seventh pregnancy last June (also have a son) I took progesterone suppositories and continued with then (and prednisone) from ovulation until 12 weeks. Pregnancy vitamins and vitamin D throughout. We had a LOT of scans plus the NIPT bloodwork during the pregnancy . The anxiety was intense and constant throughout. I was constantly waiting for something to go wrong. Still am to be honest. However the pregnancy and birth were otherwise smooth and full of joy and hope.

oh and for tracking ovulation we used the Clearblue Advanced Fertility Monitor. Not cheap but totally worth it.

Wishing you all the very best of luck 🤞🤞🤞

Stillwinston · 12/04/2023 07:19

@NutsandPuffs that's such a wonderful outcome, I'm so happy you got to have your rainbow girl 💟 🌈 thanks so much for sharing, it just goes to show how much we're willing to go through as women 😊 x

That’s really interesting. Definitely won’t take it again. I have ordered some Shatavari to try, but wondering if I should step away from the supplements at this point. Also booked a reflexology session for a few weeks time, which I’m nervously looking forward to; it helps me to feel like I’m doing ‘something’ to get to where we want to be……my next step is to wrestle the protein shakes away from dh as I’ve read they’re not always helpful for sperm and he has at least one a day 🤦🏻‍♀️

AuntFlosmiserableniece · 12/04/2023 13:22

@NutsandPuffs thank you for sharing your lovely story and so many congratulations!

Stillwinston · 12/04/2023 16:38

@AuntFlosmiserableniece I never knew that about protein shakes, it's crazy how many things can negatively affect fertility 😕

I'm CD3 today and just had a load of OPKs delivered so am determined to give it my best shot this month! Anyone tried doing SMEP?

OP posts:
mrsed1987 · 12/04/2023 16:51

Hi all, I'm 35 TTC number 2. I came off the pill in Jan, had my withdrawal bleed and then it was 45 days till a period. Its now been another 45 days and no period yet and a negative pregnancy test. Anyone had this after coming off the pill? I am overweight as well just I guess could account for the lack of period?

Any advice on supplements for encouraging ovulation? X

AuntFlosmiserableniece · 12/04/2023 16:58

@mrsed1987 it might be worth a look at the conceive plus website for supplements as they do specific ones for different issues. Not cheap, but anything conception related seems to be expensive!

@Stillwinston SMEP looks so intense that I’ve been a bit reluctant to try it, but I think we may give it a go this cycle.

Stillwinston · 12/04/2023 17:03

@mrsed1987 welcome 😁 no advice I'm afraid but glad to have you in the group 👍

@AuntFlosmiserableniece I know, it seems pretty hardcore but I think I need to try it this month and if still nothing then push forwards with speaking to a fertility specialist x

Anyone tried proceive max ? I splashed out on them this month when AF arrived but they taste so horrible I’m finding it quite a chore to take them ! I can’t help but think some products and supplements are gimmicky because they know how women longing to get pregnant will try anything 🤔

cornflakes86 · 12/04/2023 19:17

@mrsed1987 i haven’t been on the pill but my sister was on it for a good while and it took her period months to come back at all and she is not overweight. It came back to normal eventually

Stillwinston · 12/04/2023 19:36

@cornflakes86 no but I was just about to start taking them this month - could you mix them into something?

I completely agree that there's a whole industry built on the expectation that women will spend money on pretty much anything if they sell it as a "fertility aid" - though I'm willing to try anything right now so I'm their perfect consumer 😂

OP posts:
cornflakes86 · 12/04/2023 19:42

@Stillwinston agreed . Also the perfect consumer clearly ! Yes tried mixing it into juice but it’s not for me . I’ve always found suspensions hard to stomach though. Won’t be buying again !

Infinitebows · 12/04/2023 21:43

Hey Ladies, can I join please?
Last chance saloon for me really... 43 (would be 44 by the time I have a baby if it happens) 2 miscarriages (last June and February) think I'm going to try for just a few more months as I'm so desperate but the heartache and waiting game each month is soul destroying. Feel for everyone on here that's going through this craziness that is TTC 💕
I've been taking pregnacare preconception and omega 3. Have switched to the pink clear blue ovulation tests as they seem more accurate (far too many flashy smiley days on the blue ones)
Lovely to hear the success stories on here for that glimmer of hope. Baby dust to all 💕
@knobheadex are you okay?

TypingaThesis · 12/04/2023 21:50

I just read your post and had to reply. I'm really rooting for you @Infinitebows
Sending all my positive vibes your way ✨️

Maizie83 · 12/04/2023 22:08

Hi everyone, is it ok if I join too! I'm 42 and TTC baby no. 2 (DD born when I was 39!). Fell pregnant last Autumn and miscarried at 8 weeks, despite seeing viable embryo in a scan at 6. 😢

Cycles haven't been the same since, and considering IVF (if I rob a bank) in October if no luck by then. Really went for it this month so hoping for my BFP and for all of you too!

Stillwinston · 12/04/2023 23:47

@Infinitebows welcome 😊 so sorry to hear about your losses, it truly is heartbreaking when it happens ❤️ like a pp said, we're absolutely all rooting for you, hopefully this group can help support you along the way xxx

Hi @Maizie83 - nice to have you in the group 😊 so sorry to hear about your loss, I also miscarried at a similar stage last year and fully understand how heartbreaking it is. Sending positive thoughts for this month and will keep everything crossed for you 🤞 xx

Maizie83 · 12/04/2023 23:52

@Stillwinston thank you, and I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you've come through the worst of it now. And @Infinitebows sending you all the baby dust!

Stillwinston · 12/04/2023 23:57

Thanks @Maizie83 😊 when's AF due for you this month?

OP posts:
Maizie83 · 12/04/2023 23:58

@Stillwinston hard to say as my cycles are still a bit unpredictable post-MC. According to my trusty app, around 20th April. And my body was giving ovulation signals for the last week. Might do a FRER on Tuesday, if I can wait that long! How about you?

Stillwinston · 13/04/2023 07:07

You're much stronger than me @Maizie83, I probably would have done multiple tests by now if I were you 😂 how are you feeling - any promising symptoms?

I'm only cd4 today so literally just finishing AF. I'm really ready to try SMEP this month and give it my best shot though so it already feels like time is dragging 😩
