Just a lighthearted thread for those of us now considered to be geriatric by the NHS 😂 looking to meet other women TTC who may also be feeling past their prime!

A little bit about me - I'm 36 and TTC dc no.2. Been trying for over 2 years now and depressingly started AF today so am yet again starting CD1. Hubby doesn't quite understand how upsetting this is each month so it'd be great to chat with ladies who get how I'm feeling ❤️

@Downtherabbithole83 we did SMEP once and that was it for the entire month 😂 i look forward to a break every month, so does DH!

Stillwinston · 22/05/2023 22:19

You're a stronger woman than me @Downtherabbithole83, we tried to do SMEP last month but weren't able to completely commit to it which I kicked myself for - even without dtd as often as we should have I was exhausted by it 😂

Once more and I’m done for the month 😂😴😴😴😴

Peak didn’t seem to be very high this month thought so I’m not convinced it’ll happen anyway!

@ttcat37 its with a private fertility clinic . I’ve had a hycosy and amh before with them . They haven’t suggested any other investigations yet . I have a feeling they will suggest iui next or straight to ivf I’m going to ask about clomid and see what she says.

Infinitebows · 23/05/2023 11:38

Hey all! Just catching up on the thread. I hope it's not the case that ovulation can happen a few days after you think you've ovulated because we kind of give up DTD for around 5 days after. No wonder I'm not getting pregnant 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 joking aside - AF not due for another 6 days, it's going unbelievably slow.
@ttcat37 sounds like I need to find this open house programme and schedule it in 🤣

ttcat37 · 23/05/2023 12:12

@Infinitebows honestly though- my peak was Saturday and dominant follicle was 17mm on Sunday and egg still definitely in it! Sonographer said ovulation would be ‘in the next few days’ so we’re gonna carry on with every other day. Usually I’d go by the OPKS and probably have assumed Sunday was ov day!
Open House… wow. There was a couple on there who were interested in inviting a ‘3rd person’ into their sex life. They ended up with 15… at once 😯

Infinitebows · 23/05/2023 12:31

Same as you I would have assumed it had been the Sunday, then gone hell for leather so to speak on those two days then given up for a while. Interesting to learn it can different and further away from the peak than usually anticipated.
Oooh that sounds errrrm interesting.... 15 at once, they must've been shattered and sore the next day. Dying to watch it now 🤣 there's a couple in the next village to us and they're swingers 🍍 their parties sound raucous from what I've heard. They look like typical church goers (no offence to church goers if there's any on the thread) it takes all sorts I guess!

MK85 · 23/05/2023 15:20

I personally feel really frustrated trying to get the timing right. We tried following SMEP last few months but part of me also wonders could we be having too much sex?
Correct me if I'm wrong but you start on day 8 and assuming you ovulate on day 15 , they recommend having sex 4 days in a row . Surely that decreases your chances rather than maximising ? Don't they always say not to have sex every day as it can lower the amount of sperm .
We followed it half assed this month as we stopped dtd the day after my peak as he was away for work, when I know it recommends to cover the next 5 days after peak. It's all just so much effort and stress trying to get it right. The month we got pregnant unbelievably we had sex twice that month 😄
I think this month I'm going to approach ovulation by dtd every 2 to 3 days until ovulation and then every second day after peak

Infinitebows · 23/05/2023 16:09

@MK85 that sounds like a good plan. I get lost with all the info because there are so many different and conflicting ways. It makes my head spin and I'm sure like many others on this thread we'll have tried them all at some point, no way are we each doing the same every month hence our luck. Also as pointed out to me way back on here, there's also egg survival time to consider, sperm life time and time it takes to swim to the egg. Some women's eggs will live for longer - I don't know why but I have a gut feeling mine only live max 12 hours 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think the lady said the sperm needs to refresh every few days to be healthy (?) there's so many variables it's impossible to know when's best to DTD. Maybe tmi (as per with me) but we did it on what I felt like was ovulation day (pain in ovaries and peak on the stick) and there was hardly any semen (that word though 🤮) there but we also did it the next day in case the egg did drop that night and survive 12 hours and there was way way more semen there the second day so who knows! It's a guessing game that's for sure

Maizie83 · 23/05/2023 17:16

Just filling you in on my Chinese medicine experience! The practitioner has said I had a blood deficiency which could be affecting implantation. I've had one treatment and I'm on a supplement powder which has lots of trace minerals. She also forbade me to drink any alcohol. I've stuck to it bar one Aperol Spritz on Saturday (couldn't resist!).

What was interesting was the day after treatment I had huge cramps and an insane amount of EWCM, where there's been very little since the MC in Dec. Partner is away, so haven't DTD since 5th May.

My period is late but still BFNs (Boots strips) - haven't tested since Saturday, but I'll test again in a couple of days to be completely sure. My gut tells me ovulation didn't happen this month, or happened very late. The chance of being pregnant nearly three weeks after sex at this stage is highly unlikely, unless my partner has nuclear sperm.

In case this is interesting to any considering alternative routes!

Downtherabbithole83 · 23/05/2023 21:41

@ttcat37 and @Infinitebows I just googled Open House 😳 I may have to watch an episode out of curiosity!

@MK85 the timing thing totally stresses you out and if this month doesn’t happen I can assure you we won’t be attempted SMEP again - found that it made it all too stressful and clinical! I keep looking back at the month we had our chemical and when we dtd then and also at the month where I fell pregnant with our tfmr baby - I’ve tried replicating both of those dtd patterns with no luck. There just seem to be so many things that need to line up for it to happen… how to people get pregnant on a one night stand?!?!

cornflakes86 · 24/05/2023 09:51

Returned from hols and the giant box of easy At home ovulation and hcg tests arrived from Amazon. I know now why people become serial testers!! Did a test and BFN ! Around 14dpo today. Not even feeling sad to be honest. I just have a feeling I am not going to get pregnant without some sort of medical intervention at this stage.

Infinitebows · 24/05/2023 20:54

Girls I've been in the foulest mood today, literally could rip DH head off! Every and I mean EVERY little thing he's done or said had me feeling insanely raged up! Assume AF will arrive at the weekend. Rarely get this moody feeling but wowsers today has been tough. Roll on bedtime - even his breathing is f*cking me off today 😠 (haven't told him this btw, I've just been super quiet else I think I'd explode) Please someone tell me it's not just me 😕
@cornflakes86 sorry about the BFN. Maybe not out though until AF shows?!

SarahShorty · 24/05/2023 21:05

@Infinitebows mood swings are normal with high progesterone. I was much more moody than normal in the run up to this AF. It was part of why I was convinced I was pregnant. My DH always fiddles with things and taps on things, though and my cycle was stupidly long that time, so could have have just been prolonged hormone levels, I don't know.

Infinitebows · 24/05/2023 21:14

@SarahShorty thanks for the reply, horrible when you feel like this and think it's just you. I had a stitch feeling on my left ovary side all day yesterday and I think I stupidly (and secretly) thought oooh maybe this is implantation feelings but then today realised how stupid I was thinking that and letting myself get my hopes up and then today Im mad at myself for thinking like that yesterday- does that even make any sense? Jesus this is all hard work 😓

SarahShorty · 24/05/2023 21:46

@Infinitebows I get you xx All of Friday last week and Saturday last weekend I was so convinced that'd we done it and that this was the one. Then AF came in full flow as I was cutting DH's hair on Sunday. I felt like such a tit and was so angry with myself. It's all normal, though, especially if you're getting all the symptoms.

Downtherabbithole83 · 24/05/2023 21:47

@SarahShorty and @Infinitebows I think it’s important that we consider the alternative explanation: our other halves are going out of their way to be annoying and are breathing loudly/fiddling/tapping/being generally unhelpful on purpose… just saying, maybe we shouldn’t blame ourselves and our hormones at all! 🤔😉

Infinitebows · 25/05/2023 07:19

@Downtherabbithole83 I nearly spat my tea out at that! 😂 brilliant! The alternative is explanation is the one I'm going with 😂
@SarahShorty yeah and I think we're all trying so hard with timing DTD and charting and all that malarkey, you think, how can I not be pregnant when those odd little twinges come.
I'm quite ashamed that at my age I can't even read my body properly

cornflakes86 · 25/05/2023 12:03

@Infinitebows no Af arrived yesterday unfortunately. Hope u have better luck as far as I recall I still had my normal pms crankiness when I was pregnant before !

Infinitebows · 25/05/2023 15:02

@cornflakes86 that's good to hear that it's still a possibility with my irrational irritable mood yesterday, I'm due AF next Monday.
Sorry AF arrived for you yesterday - hope you're okay. So frustrating and annoying that the whole timing/waiting game starts again isn't it! 😔

MK85 · 25/05/2023 15:17

I might try the one night stand plan. Maybe a little role playing might bring back some spice. A wig and a new accent for OH , couple glasses of wine and some bedroom antics with no expectations. Hopefully this time next month I'll be knocked up 😆

Downtherabbithole83 · 25/05/2023 16:08

@MK85 that made me laugh! Will you be requesting any particular accent?

JumpinJellyfish · 25/05/2023 16:51

Hello, can I join? I’m 36 - does that make me geriatric?!

I’ve got 2 kids already - 5 and 2.5 - and we thought we were done but I’ve just persuaded DH to go for another.

We hadn’t fully decided to try this month but dtd once in my fertile window. Sorry tmi but we usually use the withdrawal method and DH kind of half did out of habit (🤦‍♀️) so im not sure how much of a chance we’ve really got 🤣. Think im
probably about 6dpo now but not tracking so no real idea!

Infinitebows · 25/05/2023 21:01

@MK85 made me chuckle too, definitely seems to get the results for most! I might join you, but if he enjoys it a bit too much and suggests it regularly I might get pissed off 🤣🤣
@JumpinJellyfish hi there! No such thing as tmi, I think we all love a bit of juice on here 🤭 'half did it out of habit' got me laughing! Definitely in with a chance by the sounds of things. You'll be super busy if you are lucky enough to get caught again soon. The wait between ovulation and AF arriving seems to take an age doesn't it?!

Stillwinston · 25/05/2023 21:51

@MK85 love this 🤣 I definitely reckon it'd work as well!

@JumpinJellyfish welcome! I can imagine you frantically telling him to put it back in 😂😂 but pre-come can make you pregnant so I'm certain you have a chance with your method - will keep my fingers crossed 🤞🏻

@Infinitebows
Your comment made me howl - we definitely do love a bit of juice on here 🤣

Tha ks for giving me a giggle tonight ladies and for taking my mind off the TWW x
