Just a lighthearted thread for those of us now considered to be geriatric by the NHS 😂 looking to meet other women TTC who may also be feeling past their prime!

A little bit about me - I'm 36 and TTC dc no.2. Been trying for over 2 years now and depressingly started AF today so am yet again starting CD1. Hubby doesn't quite understand how upsetting this is each month so it'd be great to chat with ladies who get how I'm feeling ❤️

Pregnant at 43?! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4809374-pregnant-at-43

cornflakes86 · 19/05/2023 21:02

@suz2285 so delighted for you. Keep us posted on how things are going!

MK85 · 19/05/2023 23:42

@Infinitebows I came across a study last night, it was a Chinese study published in 22 . The objective of the study was to explore the efficiency of NAC supplementation in women with advanced maternal age . It compared 200 women.
The group supplemented with nac produced significantly higher quality eggs compared to control group.
I've actually read other studies recently that showed for women like myself with pcos nac improved egg quality aswell but that first study was specifically aimed at women with AMA, so I just thought I'd share that.

MK85 · 19/05/2023 23:49

@suz2285 thats great news. Your comment might help someone else in the future going through the same thing , worrying about their levels. Glad everything is going well for you. Feel free to stop by for a chat.

Infinitebows · 20/05/2023 08:45

@MK85 it sounds like you do your research and I can't fault you with your situation at present. I'll be honest I've just had to Google what the NAC supplement is. My thing is, I'm too frightened to put anything like that into my body just in case it had some adverse side affect that isn't written about yet. I even stopped taking my pregnacare pre conception vits because I'm sure they were messing with my 'normal'. I wouldn't dare try the NAC - are you considering it? You just have to do what you feel is right for you I guess. Really hope your appointment in June is a successful one if you're not already pregnant by then 😊

So I am at 14DPO today. AF will arrive Sunday if it's going to, I miscalculated by a day. Technically AF shows up on the day of a new cycle, not the last day of the luteal phase. Last night I thought I somehow managed to wet myself a little bit because I felt a bit wet down there and then thought it might be blood. So I went to the bathroom so sure that my period was coming and I saw a very clear, watery discharge. DH and I being the furious Googlers that we are, we found something called leukorrhea. It's a type of discharge that is common in early pregnancy but can also just be a normal part of the menstrual cycle. I have no desire to test as I'm sick of seeing negatives. Monday is technically the day of my missed period, so I'll test then if AF is a no-show.

Jomummy1013 · 20/05/2023 10:38

@Stillwinston thank you. Got my 2-3 on clear blue yesterday. There is still so much hope for anyone 40+. Good luck to all xxx

SarahShorty · 20/05/2023 16:47

Welp, I stupidly caved and tested, was a BFN. I've also had a very tiny speck of brown discharge which could be implantation spotting. Then again, AF might just come tomorrow in full swing. Just have to wait.

Infinitebows · 21/05/2023 08:24

@SarahShorty depending which test you used it may not be correct just yet. Hope AF doesn't show up today xx

cornflakes86 · 21/05/2023 09:35

on holidays in Spain seeing loads of bumps on the beach and just know Af is gonna arrive any day now can sense it. Seeing loads of people with bumps who look older than me . It’s kind of irritating to be honest.

Infinitebows · 21/05/2023 10:02

@cornflakes86 hope AF doesn't show for you too. I get you, that would piss me off too, you just look around and it seems so unfair. Hope other than the bumps you have a lovely holiday xx

cornflakes86 · 21/05/2023 14:17

@Infinitebows thanks having a grand holiday other than the bumps !

SarahShorty · 21/05/2023 16:12

The witch showed up bang on time. That's me going for the next FET. I got my peak perfectly and covered ovulation. None of the few sperm that my DH has made it. DH hates himself for it and he's not in a good mood 😔 What a complete shitshow of a weekend. I hope everyone is okay xx

ttcat37 · 21/05/2023 18:36

Hi all. Sorry to hear your news @SarahShorty. Relentless isn’t it? 💐
@cornflakes86 life is cruel sometimes isn’t it. Even when you try and get away from it all it’s still right there. Sending thoughts your way. 💐

I had my AFC scan today before my fertility clinic appointment next week. I was interested as to what I’d see as I’m cd12 today and I got 0.93 on an OPK yesterday which I presumed was a peak. Today had 0.51 and a 0.91.
The scan was good, everything is normal and I have a decent egg reserve apparently- 12 follicles on one side and 9 on the other. Endometrium is a good thickness and uterus, cervix etc normal and no signs of polyps or fibroids.
The most interesting thing for me was that my dominant follicle is currently 17mm. I asked the sonographer when I would ovulate and she said it’s difficult to predict but ‘in the next few days’. Looking it up online, it’s not quite big enough for ovulation. So even though my OPKs were high yesterday and I’d presumed today was ov day, that’s not the case.
My point being, keep dtd even after you think you’ve ovulated!!!

cornflakes86 · 22/05/2023 08:27

@ttcat37 thats good news that everything looks good. Let us know how the fertility appointment goes. I have one booked for next month.

cornflakes86 · 22/05/2023 12:00

@SarahShorty sorry to hear AF arrived and wishing you all the best with FET

MK85 · 22/05/2023 15:10

@ttcat37 very true. the other month I didn't ovulate until 3 days after my positive opk. I think they increase in size quite rapidly at that stage .
How did they perform the afc scan? Is it just a normal transvaginal ultrasound?

Downtherabbithole83 · 22/05/2023 18:35

Oooooooh that’s really interesting @MK85 - I’ve always assumed I’d ovulate by 24 hours my peak on the opks. Maybe better dtd again tonight to make sure we’re covered 🤦‍♀️😴

Downtherabbithole83 · 22/05/2023 18:37

Thanks for the heads-up re: ovulating later @ttcat37 . I think the other half has had enough of ttc this month but I’ll have to see how persuasive I can be! If I don’t fall asleep first 😂

Stillwinston · 22/05/2023 19:29

That's really interesting re. ovulation @MK85 though now means I'll have to DTD more which I'm not sure I can handle 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
I'm 4dpo today and trying so hard to keep a level head this time though I went to a baby shower yesterday which hasn't helped! Hope you're all doing ok x

It's unusual to ovulate that late but not unheard of.
My ovulation last cycle was very swift, seemingly within 24hours.

No idea what this cycle will be like. Tomorrow's my last day of clomid but I haven't had any of the symptoms that I had last time upon taking the tablets so I just have my 🤞 that It'll still make me ovulate this month

Downtherabbithole83 · 22/05/2023 21:47

@Stillwinston I think I’m 3dpo today (according to my app) so looks like we’re (almost) cycle twins again this month!

ttcat37 · 22/05/2023 21:58

Thanks @cornflakes86. Good luck at your appointment too. Is yours at a fertility clinic too? Have they asked for loads of tests? Mine wanted the moon on a stick- luckily we’ve had most of them over the last 6 months.
Hi @MK85. Yes it was just a transvaginal scan. Took about 10 - 15 mins for the scan. It’s really made me see OPKs differently- they really are a guide rather than gospel aren’t they.
@Downtherabbithole83 same here! We’ve just been aiming for every 2-3 days here. Although DH has a bit more keen the last few days- don’t know if he’s going for it as we’re seeing fertility clinic on Friday for our first appointment or if it’s because we’ve been watching Open House right before bed 😂😂😂

Downtherabbithole83 · 22/05/2023 22:12

@ttcat37 we’ve tried SMEP for the first time this month and we’re ‘scheduled’ for one more go this evening… we’ve managed to stick to the plan but is it bad that I’ll be pleased to have a break after this?! 😂

I never thought I’d be happily sharing my sex life with a group of strangers on the internet… oh how ttc changes a girl!
