Just a lighthearted thread for those of us now considered to be geriatric by the NHS 😂 looking to meet other women TTC who may also be feeling past their prime!

A little bit about me - I'm 36 and TTC dc no.2. Been trying for over 2 years now and depressingly started AF today so am yet again starting CD1. Hubby doesn't quite understand how upsetting this is each month so it'd be great to chat with ladies who get how I'm feeling ❤️

@cornflakes86 ive often thought about abroad too since they seem highly recommended especially for older women as it seems some clinics are less regulated and will transfer multiple embryos whereas here they'll only transfer one embryo.
I'm not sure how flights , hotel ect could add up any cheaper. Considering you have to attend multiple appointments like the egg collection, the scans , the transfer ect. Ive heard from other women sometimes they'll want you to come for multiple scans to keep an eye on the follicles. I image you'd need to stay out there in an apartment from start to finish. Plus you'd need insurance if you took unwell from the fertility meds while away. That would be a nightmare. Not that I'd ever be able to convince OH as he dosent like to fly . We've never been abroad

MK85 · 05/05/2023 22:16

@cornflakes86 meant to say ,yeah go for the easy @ home. I've never had a reliability issue. Only thing I've found is the clearblue will give me a smiley that afternoon but the easy@ home won't give me a postive til late that night. Still, when you consider you don't immediately release the egg anyway it dosent matter that much. I got a 100pack last month on offer for £15. I ordered a 40lh and 10 preg tests pack today for £11 something. If you take it on the subscribe and save you its cheaper , then just cancel after a few days if you don't want anymore.

Stillwinston · 05/05/2023 22:50

@cornflakes86 I also recently moved over to the easy@home tests as I just couldn't justify the cost of clear blue any more and I've been pleasantly surprised so far 👌🏻

I’m officially out this month… AF has arrived meaning it was a 26 day cycle for me.

Urgh… I’m grumpy 😂

cornflakes86 · 06/05/2023 08:25

@MK85 thanks these are things to keep in mind regarding going abroad. I’ve been told there is a place in Belfast that will give you a refund if you aren’t successful, I might look into that also . I think I will order the easy at home tests .

cornflakes86 · 06/05/2023 08:29

@Downtherabbithole83 sorry to hear it’s just so annoying when it arrives don’t blame you for being grumpy. Wishing you lots of luck in the next cycle !

Infinitebows · 06/05/2023 08:44

@cornflakes86 I had only ever used the clearblue OPK too but switched last month to the easy home ones, soon got my head around them and I actually think they were more accurate for me than the CB ones!
Was last day of AF for me yesterday and so we start the wait again for ovulation, Christ on a bike it's tedious!

Downtherabbithole83 · 06/05/2023 08:54

@Infinitebows - couldn’t have said it better myself! Tedious is the right word.

Infinitebows · 06/05/2023 09:16

@Downtherabbithole83 sorry AF arrived, I was so grumpy early in the week too. I suspect we're all as fed up and as impatient as each other at the moment and some positive news is due soon surely! Xx

Downtherabbithole83 · 06/05/2023 09:19

First signs of AF this morning (that delightful ‘tinge of pink’) but now there’s no sign of it again which weirdly is more annoying because I now just want to get this unsuccessful cycle done and start the next one.

I think that’s what makes TTC so emotionally exhausting. I’m always flitting back and forth between not wanting AF and then being desperate for it to arrive so we can go again… anyone else feel like this?

Stillwinston · 06/05/2023 11:01

@Downtherabbithole83 sorry to hear about AF - I'm in the same position as you as have been spotting for 2 days but no proper period has started. It's so frustrating isn't it 🤦🏼‍♀️ sending love and will keep my fingers crossed that AF doesn't arrive 🤞🏻 x

Finally got a genuine peak on LH last night. This cycle is another one of those where ovulation occurs late and the cycle ends up being 40+ days instead of 32-35. Grumble. This peak came precisely 10 days after the initial peak where ovulation failed. We DTD on the 4th and 5th May and will DTD again tonight and potentially tomorrow night. No complaints from DH 😂

cornflakes86 · 06/05/2023 16:07

@Downtherabbithole83 yep I know what you mean. I usually feel really warm at night and have insomnia a couple of days before AF arrives and when that happens I know it’s going to arrive and I just want it to happen. Then I’m really sad when it does arrive , then I cheer up after a couple of days, then try again then tww starts again and feel anxious not wanting Af again during that time and so on 😑 @Infinitebows that’s exactly it , sooo tedious !

Stillwinston · 06/05/2023 16:18

@SarahShorty do men ever complain about having to have sex? 😂 Glad you got your peak though, it's always a relief to see that solid line/smiley face and know you have a chance.

AF has finally arrived in full form so I can now adjust my dates and look forward - next ovulation should be around the 18th May. I've had a ridiculously expensive month so going to hold off paying for tests until June so this time has to work 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Downtherabbithole83 · 06/05/2023 17:29

Snap @Stillwinston - AF arrived in full force when I was walking round Tesco 🤦‍♀️ Excellent! 😂

Ovulation predicted around 19th/20th for me…

Stillwinston · 06/05/2023 18:44

@Downtherabbithole83 cycle buddies, woop woop 😃

Downtherabbithole83 · 06/05/2023 19:40

Yay @Stillwinston!

I still haven’t decided whether to bother with ovulation tests this month… last two months our timing (and frequency) really couldn’t have been better and yet… nothing! Wondering whether to just go for the every other day approach plus any day I notice ewcm 🤷‍♀️

Though I think I’ll miss getting to pee on a stick daily…

SarahShorty · 06/05/2023 20:38

@Downtherabbithole83 are you using any sort of fertility monitor? I use the Premom app to read LH sticks (after I've peed on them of course). Such a funny thing to do. Pee on a stick, whip phone out, snap.

Downtherabbithole83 · 06/05/2023 20:45

@SarahShorty - I use the app; best thing about the ovulation sticks was finding out about the app 😂 I really love the graphs… complete maths nerd!

suz2285 · 06/05/2023 21:50

Ok all so I'm 'that' person with a dilemma, I'm 9dpo today and my last 2 luteal have been 9 dpo... tonight I was freezing so I just randomly decided to take my temp and it's low, like below the cover line on the chart low, now I know it's not a morning temp but aren't evening temps meant to be higher?!!

So I think f it I'll go do a test because if I come on AF tomorrow then I want to know if I am getting pregnant and it's just not sticking due to lack of progesterone or something, im waiting my 21 day progesterone results too which I should get next week

But I've got a very faint line on 2 seperate tests.... one is the same brand I used to test out my hcg when I was MC so I know what the very faint line on that one looks like and this was slightly darker than that, the other is a cheap Tesco strip test, both have 25 sensitivity (whatever unit of measurement that is)

It's dark here so lighting is awful but this one is clearer, maybe you can see it?

So now I'm not sure if I'm gonna start AF tomorrow or not! I know I'm just waiting to see basically.... but yeah!

MK85 · 06/05/2023 22:07

@Downtherabbithole83 AH that's drives me nuts when I see a bleed start then stop.
I do understand your emotions. I desperately don't want af to come and hope we've been successful but at the same time you get used to the disappointment every time and I'm just wishing the days would hurry up so af starts and I can crack on with the next cycle already.

MK85 · 06/05/2023 22:08

I'm feeling alot of pressure this cycle to get pregnant. I was talking to OH yesterday and I was a bit stressed out trying to figure what I'm going to do next cycle with regards to the clomid as I don't feel comfortable pursuing another month unmonitored . I contacted consultant several times and still no response and I'd like to get things cleared up about the comment on my thin lining aswell before we proceed. He then commented that I shouldn't be thinking about needing to sort things out because I should just hope this cycle works and we don't have to worry about it. I've tried to tell him it's a not a miracle pill and realistically, the chances are low. Only a low percentage get pregnant. He still bangs on about being positive but I'd rather be realistic than set myself up for the hurt. The past few nights he's been driving me bonkers as I keep waking up and find him with his hand on /or rubbing my tummy. I think its going to make my feel like a complete failure if AF arrives this month.

MK85 · 06/05/2023 22:18

@suz2285 the fact that your getting them on 2 different brands .. 🤞
What would be the chances of two evaps. The line in first photo looks pink on my screen and l always hear people say evaps are colourless lines.
I'd take a test in few days but that could very much be an early positive

suz2285 · 06/05/2023 22:21

Thanks @MK85 yeah I never test this early cos the pics always look rubbish, they're both pink irl, it's so dark here and the light is bouncing off them 😂 they are faint tho, definitely positive tho

However with my usual 9 day luteal phase for the last 2 months I'm not hopeful for it
sticking... we shall see... husband is away this weekend not back till tomorrow so might have a better clue then... if AF doesn't arrive tomorrow I might be more positive!

So sorry about all the crap you're going though it's crazy they just give you the meds and then don't follow up! Sounds like somethings majorly slipped through the cracks... it's one thing after another! I really hope they step it up for next cycle and explain what the heck is going on
