Hi all, I have figured out how to create a thread on Mumsnet and here goes... my first one.

This is a continuation of the two (!) full Jan threads so far this month - we're a chatty bunch and happy to welcome new folks. There'll probably be a February thread starting up soon too.

Will tag everyone I can see below... please join if I missed you!

@lakejupiter this made me laugh at your neighbour. Good luck, I find the second week of the 2ww was the worst.

@MrsFionaCharming congratulations!!

@Brunette1989 it’s a tricky one. I read an article when I started ttc that said alcohol reduces your chances of conception by 2/3 though I’m not sure I believe that. When I had DD I was drinking a fair bit (not knowing until week 5 of pregnancy). She’s totally fine. First 2 cycles ttc I drank at weekends which was my usual move. The third (successful cycle) I had one cheat night in the 2ww. I’d already had implantation cramps so I had an inkling but knew it was too early to test. Basically studies show drinking in the 2ww “may” reduce chances of successful conception. If you are pregnant though alcohol at that stage won’t hurt, and unless you’re drinking spirits by the bottle load I doubt they will In general. Ttc can take a long time, and I’d be hesitant to totally change your lifestyle unless you want that anyway if that makes sense? Good luck to you!

saltedcaramelanything · 15/01/2022 19:22

Omg the TWW is a killing me!

8DPO and have talked myself down from testing 3 times today. I'm so tempted to try with FMU tomorrow, but know it's just going to get me upset when it's a bfn

AlmostLondoner · 15/01/2022 19:30

@April601stbaby I know I am probably unreasonably worried but 2 mc and bad covid just messed me up so much. Hoping for the best 🤞🤞

kizzy97 · 15/01/2022 19:41

How long would anyone suggest holding urine for if I were to do a test tonight? I've not drunk much since 3:00

BabyBird20 · 15/01/2022 19:53

@kizzy97 I reckon 4 hours would usually give you a good concentration if you haven't had much to drink. How many dpo are you again?

@saltedcaramelanything @lakejupiter me toooo!! I'm 7dpo and trying not so symptom spot, every twinge, every yawn.... I so nearly tested today which would have been ridiculous as I'd just be so upset if it was bfn

I've just found out a close friend is pregnant and I'm so happy for her but it's just hit me so hard that I'm not and it's starting to feel like it's going to take forever again!!

@IntergalacticP how are you finding the clomid generally? Does it affect you? I was prescribed it for my first ttc journey after two years ttc and miraculously got pregnant the that month without even taking it! However am beginning to thing I might need it again if I'm not successful in the next month or two!

Purple29 · 15/01/2022 20:01

@Brunette1989 when I conceived DS I went away with family the weekend before my BFP we drank a fair amount of wine and gin. I had been trying for 2 years and didn't let my hair down often. All was fine with my DS and pregnancy. Bear in mind that baby uses the yolk for the first 6 weeks to sustain them. Then the placenta takes over, so it's less about what's in your blood stream right at the start so a couple of cocktails will be fine.

Brunette1989 · 15/01/2022 20:08

@madeleine85 @Shortmamashortcycles @RosyappleA
Thanks ladies. I've not drank big since May and when I conceived last time I was smoking (quit as soon as I knew and been smoke free 3 months now) so I certainly wasn't perfect. It's just fear now really, there's not really any good time to just let your hair down when TTC, and I just feel like my whole life is on hold with no end in sight. So then trying to balance that and still have a life, its a difficult one and trying to stay sane 🤣 never thought getting sperm and egg together would be so hard ha ha xx

Brunette1989 · 15/01/2022 20:30

@Purple29 thanks for that feel a bit more reassured. I know it will be a few drinks but I'll be in my waiting time so won't know. Ivr had a few people say its happened when they've relaxed so praying will be the same. Didn't know that about the yolk/sac thing that's interesting xx

kizzy97 · 15/01/2022 20:30

@BabyBird20 I'm 16dpo according to app (period was due yesterday) but 19dpo if I ovulated when I'm sure I did. Just did a test anyway and BFN so just wait for af to show up I guess

Shortmamashortcycles · 15/01/2022 20:40

@kizzy97, oh no! I'm so sorry - I had all my fingers crossed for you. Do you know what sensitivity the test was? Not to try to plant any false hope...

BabyBird20 · 15/01/2022 21:02

@kizzy97 that's so frustrating for you, I'm sorry to hear that Sad It could be worth an fmu test or hold off a few more days and see if anything happens? Sending virtual hugs.

kizzy97 · 15/01/2022 21:03

@Shortmamashortcycles it was a clearblue early detection, might do another one in the morning but at the same time don't want to waste it

kizzy97 · 15/01/2022 21:04

@BabyBird20 thank you, that's my dilemma now, do I do the other one in the morning and wait and see what happens and possibly save the other one for next month

arianasky · 15/01/2022 21:46

@MrsFionaCharming congratulations that's a lovely line 🎉

BabyBird20 · 15/01/2022 21:47

It's mad how expensive they are isn't it. Might be too late for this cycle but I use the cheapie one step ones from Amazon and they picked up my previous pregnancy three days before af was due so seem to work! 15 strips for £3!!

BabyBird20 · 15/01/2022 21:48

Sorry forgot to tag you @kizzy97

Tinkerbell098 · 15/01/2022 22:22

@kizzy97 oh no! How annoying! Fmu maybe best but I understand if you don’t want to waste the second. You could try fmu on Monday maybe?

kizzy97 · 15/01/2022 22:51

@BabyBird20 ooo I might have a look, might get some OPKs for next cycle as well

@Tinkerbell098 might do that! Hopefully I'm still in with a chance but not feeling too optimistic atm

mightbeyesmightbeno · 15/01/2022 22:59

Spotting has now totally stopped. After. 2 days of spotting when wiping 🤔. AF still not due until Monday. Cramps early hours of this morning but nothing since. My body does well at confusing me! Now back to the thought / Hope process that it could have been implantation spotting.,

Mummy202102 · 16/01/2022 00:13

@Slops1990 hey so sorry to hear that. Hope you do get a BFP this month. I’m also 9 dpo and have got cramps for about 2 days now which is very unusual for me, feels like light period pain. Good luck to you and let us know what ur results are I’m going to test on the 20th. Sending baby dust ❤️

toddlertired · 16/01/2022 07:58

Hello! Joining in if that’s ok - been lurking trying to keep up whilst also not obsessing… AF is due on the 26th. First month TTC #2 (DS is 3 this month). Not holding out much hope as only managed to dtd once around ovulation; i don’t really know what day that was though because my body felt like it was happening earlier than my app suggested! Using flo and cycles have been a little shorter the last few months (averaging 25 days instead of 28).

congratulations to all those with BFPs and lots of baby dust to those still waiting/trying again. I’ve already learned so much from this thread. TTC #1 was pretty quick with not much thought so this time feels quite different.

April601stbaby · 16/01/2022 08:19

So AF showed up right on queue this morning. We've had words and I've told her she's not welcome next month or anytime soon after. Grin
Back to CD1. Hope there's a February thread.

saltedcaramelanything · 16/01/2022 08:29

An unsurprising, yet still somehow upsetting, BFN this morning at 9DPO. I'm now holding off any more testing until at least Wed/Thu

Shortmamashortcycles · 16/01/2022 08:30

@April601stbaby, grrr AF is such an unwelcome guest, sorry to hear that.

There is indeed a Feb thread - it's here! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/4452117-The-month-of-valentines-pancakes-and-lot-s-of-BFP-s

Welcome, @toddlertired - the struggle to balance "I need a space to focus all this TTC anxiety on," and, "oh help, mumsnet is feeding the obsession," is real!

I wouldn't trust the apps too much - your body has more (if sometimes confusing) info than they do. Hope once was enough though - all it takes is a bit of luck and some good swimmers!

melbxldn · 16/01/2022 08:30

@toddlertired I feel the same, much more anxious / involved TTC 2. Hopefully this is our month and good luck to you. I’m 10dpo today and my AF due weds so trying to wait til Tues to test
