Hi all, I have figured out how to create a thread on Mumsnet and here goes... my first one.

This is a continuation of the two (!) full Jan threads so far this month - we're a chatty bunch and happy to welcome new folks. There'll probably be a February thread starting up soon too.

@1yearTTC the urge when they’re in the box is ridiculous- I’m 10dpo today so in my mind it wasn’t super early hahah but I know it is :( and they weren’t FRER - so maybe I just need to step away until Sunday when I intended to test originally.

@Timeaftertime21 so as it’s your first month… I think it might adjust after tomorrow or the next day and change today to your PEAK! As sometimes I needs more data to work out your O date.
I usually test 2 x a day when I’m expecting to ovulate as it moves fast. Then PreMom adjusted my high, peak etc … good luck! But keep DTD when you can to cover these few days. And CM your best friend.

@Brunette1989, hey so the ovulation tests check oestrogen levels (that's what creates a flashing smiley) AND LH levels (this surges very quickly and briefly, which gives the static smiley).

Each month, it'll take an oestrogen baseline and then once it senses a rise, you get the flashing smileys. So if you start testing once your oestrogen is already rising, you may see a blank circle because the baseline is already high. Then the next day, if your LH surge starts - boom, straight to static smiley.

Does that make sense?

@Shortmamashortcycles thanks for this. That makes sense why it went straight from one to the other.
I think getting covid in December has completely knocked my cycles out of sync as I was 3 days early for AF, then now looks like my ovulation is early as the tracking of my cycles suggests not till Tuesday so the smiley face would be very early. I tested on day 8 of my cycle following the instructions so looks like I should of tested earlier.
Do you know how long 'you're good to go' when you get the static smiley. Is it just 2 days? Bit gutted now as wanted to give us as many chances as I could this month, as next 2 months are a nightmare with partner being away during the time 😔 xx

@Brunette1989, aww yeah that makes sense. If you have a static smiley then yeah, get to it tonight and tomorrow - maybe even the day after just in case.

Don't worry about not having more chances to DTD - my last pregnancy we had sex on day 13, I ovulated on day 15 and that did the trick. One good go delivers a whole lot of swimmers, if you catch my drift!!

That's good to know that it can sometimes just be that one try, hopefully the 'good go' was last night as he was away for a few days. We can only hope 🤣

Well, I started spotting last night with some painful cramps. I thought certainly that AF was on the way. This morning nothing but just spotting. Very bizzare. I never spot before AF. I tracked with OPK got a peak, and had a temp dip, not sure if even in those circumstances I would have a anovulatory cycle? I'm keeping an eye on it but its not enough to fill a pad (sorry) its really just pink upon wipe.

@contagioushippie, hmmm how confusing! How many days are you post-ovulation now? It could just be AF taking it's sweet time, or it could be your hormones settling into early pregnancy.

Not to get your hopes up but I've never had a positive pregnancy test without having had some spotting beforehand...

I am 8 dpo today. I am going to test on Tuesday (I hope I can wait). Today I have been getting cramps and cm. I really hope it is a bfp. AF is due on the 23rd.

Does anyone know how you can start AF but your temps are still really high?? I am so confused?!

I have no idea what is going on with me. I'm on cycle day 30, my cycles usually only last between 25 and 27 days, been spotting for 5 days with no sign of AF whatsoever and the spotting has even got lighter today. And when I say spotting it's not even enough to use anything just when I wipe/check.
Totally confused. Not sure what's going on 😒

I have been told that there is no way I could be ovulating that late and getting a period so soon after. But I have a very defined peak on the ovulation tests, so I dont know. Ill keep trying for now!

At still isn't here, feeling a bit nauseous, slight cramping and boobs are aching! Getting increasingly nervous now. Feel different somehow but don't know if it's all in my head...

@kizzy97 I think it’s a lucky day today to test 😊 but understand if you want to wait to be sure. Admire your patience though!

@Natalie2304, the pessimistic explanation might be an anovulatory cycle, which might explain the light flow and weirdly long cycle. If so, it's probably just a one off - I've been told they're really common once in a while.

The more positive option is that you might be pregnant?!?!? Is there any chance of that?

@kizzy97, wahhh that all sounds exciting... how many DPO are you now? When do you think you'll test again? Am I getting over-excited on your behalf? 🙈

@Billymay I probably will do one but I’m only 10DPO I think so I bet it would say not pregnant and I’d end up in a panic, so I’ll probably leave it for a few days.

@Shortmamashortcycles it’s his birthday tomorrow so I’m going to put the test in a little gift box :) I’ll let you know what he says!

@Shortmamashortcycles I got a strong positive OPK on CD16 so I'm sure I ovulated, which was a few days late but my LP is only 11 days normally so still should have AF by now.

There is every chance. We DTD the day before my positive OPK and then 3 days after that.
I'm trying to not get my hopes up as I usually have pre AF spotting but never for this long and it never gets lighter! Just gradually gets worse. In fact this morning there was a very small amount and this afternoon nothing at all!

I have a FRER in the drawer, might do a 4 hour hold and see if it shows anything. I'm not holding out but it's very confusing!

@Tinkerbell098 @Shortmamashortcycles @Billymay I'm 18dpo if I ovulated when I think I did and 15 dpo according to my app! I've got no money to get a test till Monday and I'm actually petrified to test again🙈
