First timers, TTC. Safe space for brain dumps...

Hi everyone!

This thread may or may not contain questions, I've mainly started it to be my brain dump safe space but in an excited way, not a bad way...

Me (30) and my SO (34) have decided to take the leap and start TTC! We have both wanted children for a while but just knew the timing wasn't right for either of us until now. For me, any time I see a baby or even baby clothes recently my heart aches for it to be my turn. I've never really had that strong feeling before.

The reason behind this 'safe space' is that we have agreed not to tell anyone we are TTC. We just want to avoid any pressure or disappointment if things don't go to plan, etc.

For context, I am the youngest of 5, the only girl the only one of my siblings without children.
SO is the oldest of 2, his brother has a child who lives with BM away from here so isn't really seen much by grandparents.

Both families are great and would only want the best for us but I personally don't want to feel any sort or pressure at all (intended or not) from either side.

So, we start our journey, we are on cycle 1 SWI, not expecting anything to happen this cycle and trying not to turn in to a crazy lady about TTC Smile

If anyone else needs a brain dump safe space, feel free to join me here Smilex

@TinyDancer91 that makes me feel a little better, I am hoping that mine will arrive soon (on about 4 1/2 weeks and still no sign). Were you taking the pill for a long time? I was on the same one for about 12 years, so I wonder if that has an effect. Fingers crossed mine arrives soon and then we will hopefully be in a better place to conceive once they become regular. I have had no problems with AF before starting the pill, so hoping that means they will return to some sort of normality soon!

Nyxxie · 04/01/2022 21:57

@TinyDancer91 That's great that it's so regular now though, should make things easier to track. Although who knows, it could have happened first try! Fingers crossed for you.

I've always taken a break after every 21 days on the pill so I've been having regular withdrawal bleeds. I'm now worried that there is going to be a big delay before my first natural period but will have to wait and see I guess!

TinyDancer91 · 04/01/2022 22:33

@CornishSeaSwim I was on cerazette for about 11.5 years. I think part of the problem before going on the pill with my regularity was I was underweight and I'd probably only just come out the other side of puberty too (I was a late bloomer). Being a healthier weight now has possibly helped too maybe?

Which pill were you on?

TinyDancer91 · 04/01/2022 22:40

@Nyxxie yes, grateful for the easy tracking! Hopefully if your body is used to having the withdrawal every 4th week it will just keep with that rhythm. Fingers crossed it does for you and doesn't take too long to return to normal!

Have to admit, it would be amazing if it did happen first try but I know that if I accept the fact it hasn't now it will be easier for me to take when AF arrives and I won't be as disappointed. The next 2 weeks is not going to be a quick one, I can tell, haha

Already stocking up on tests in preparation!

Just took my first folic acid supplement as I'm probably going to get my coil removed in the next couple of months. Feels weird that we're finally getting to the point of actually TTC as we've been planning this for years! Good luck to everyone trying this month Smile

Sassy144 · 05/01/2022 07:10

@CornishSeaSwim I was on the mini pill for 14 years and came off a few months ago. I didn't get a withdrawal bleed but got my period after 40 days. I'm now on my second cycle since and I ovulated on day 14 or 15 so seems like things are going back to normal.

PointyMcguire · 05/01/2022 07:47

Morning all, so after the squinter at 11 dpo, it’s now 13 dpo and there’s a definite second line!

Still not truly convinced though as I also tested with my CB digital monitor from the same urine and that said not pregnant Confused I’ll retest Friday as that’s when the monitor says AF should arrive.

@PointyMcguire how exciting! Keep us posted 😁

PointyMcguire · 05/01/2022 08:25

@HMFx I think I’m still in denial expecting AF to arrive, will definitely keep you all posted.

WildePanda · 05/01/2022 08:57

Hi everyone! So happy to have stumbled across this group! Myself 31 and partner 30 are in our first month ttc, had my mirena out 15th Dec, not sure if it was a visit from AF on 18th as firstbtime she's been in 11 years if so. Don't know my cycle yet as haven't had one in so long that we guessed the date of ovulation. I uses ovulation sticks that definitely showed faint lines for a few days but have now gone back to showing nothing. Even so my hopes are still up even though there is very little chance this could be the time, anyone else had a coil removed before ttc?

CornishSeaSwim · 05/01/2022 10:09

@PointyMcguire that's exciting! Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. I was on Microgynon, so a different one. I am a healthy weight, although may try and concentrate on what I'm eating a bit more now Christmas is out of the way! I am also taking pregnacare at the advice of my Dr alongside other prescribed doses of iron and B12 due to having anaemia.

So nice to have somewhere to share all this. Does anyone else find it a bit lonely and daunting with it being the first time and not telling anyone?!

CornishSeaSwim · 05/01/2022 10:11

I should say its the pregnacare pre conception vitamins. I have also heard the seven seas ones are good if anyone is thinking of trying them!

Yes! So weird not being able to tell people so as not to add any pressure. I think I'll accidentally blab at some point as I always let slip peoples presents at Xmas 🤣
Also having to wait 2-3 months for the folic acid build up seems to be taking forever!

Good luck friend!

PointyMcguire · 05/01/2022 10:37

@CornishSeaSwim thank you!! And yes, absolutely! I wanted to text my best friend this morning but DH reined me in. Already stressing about the impact on work too, I’ve got a couple of really exciting projects kicking off this spring and now I’m going to have to plan whilst knowing I won’t be around to execute everything 😕

S0lipsism · 05/01/2022 10:45

Haha 3 months until you get all clear is going to draaag! I'm sure people will guess as soon as I turn down a G&T.

We travel abroad for work quite a bit so I'm hoping to get knocked up before my husband is due in Kenya & Mongolia this summer or I'm going to be following him around the world like a sperm beggar 🙈

Hi @WildePanda, welcome to our safe space!

I didn't have the coil so can't comment unfortunately, but keep us updated on your progress.

@CornishSeaSwim yes, I find it a bit lonely too, which why I started this thread off as I find just putting my thoughts out there and not keeping them stuck in my own head really helps.

Does anyone have any distraction techniques to help get them through the 2 week wait? Any hobbies that suddenly become very active?

SMD16 · 06/01/2022 11:24

Hey! This is so exciting to read so many people on the same journey!
I’m CD5 after coming off the pill, AF has just finished. Ovulation tests coming today and this will be my 1st full cycle of TTC it’s all very exciting at the beginning isn’t it! Wishing everyone luck x

HMFx · 06/01/2022 11:46

Exciting and welcome @SMD16 ! I'm similar position to you CD8 and first cycle TTC though I've started with OPKS today properly.

@TinyDancer91 I can't really answer as not been in the TWW yet but I've found I have needed to distract myself from obsessing about TTC anyway and I try and play games on my phone, play cards with my husband or do my family tree (very niche I know lol) I have also been on Pinterest a lot but this always ends up in baby stuff anyway Grin

I'll be needing these tips in a couple of weeks so excited to hear what others say!! X

SMD16 · 06/01/2022 11:48

Hi @HMFx, thank you! Ooh we are very close on our journeys then! Good luck 🤞🏻

littlecontis · 06/01/2022 12:01

Usually my period is very regular and I'm supposed to have AF today but it's still not here 😟
