Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@Marvellouslymadmum that is so frustrating! You must be exhausted, well done for keeping it up for so long!
I read on another thread that some women who got the vaccine had a weird cycle (whether it's coincidence or not) either no ovulation or late periods so it could be to do with your vaccine.. when did you get it in your last cycle? I know you stopped pregnacare too but it seems the most likely reason, or just a randomly off cycle

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 10:56

Saw someone report their cycle changes after the vaccine here if you're interested in that sort of thing @Marvellouslymadmum yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk

Slk3558 · 02/06/2021 11:13

@Marvellouslymadmum thanks I resisted the urge to temp this morning. 36.2 is normally what I get when I am very close to ov like day of lH surge. Am 7DPO and boobs pain is gone now! It disappeared yesterday. I’m happy I think the progesterone cream is doing something. I’ll be interested to see how long my leutal phase is this cycle.

@choccrumpet are you starting the progessence this cycle ?

Marvellouslymadmum · 02/06/2021 11:32

@choccrumpet yes it could be down to the vaccine, I had it on day 15 right around when ovulation was due so when it was delayed the first time I thought maybe the second time but still no as far as I can tell. I've had two low peaks but no temp increase so 🤷🏼‍♀️ I will report it on there once I know what's going on

@Slk3558 that is interesting, 🤞🏻 it's doing something for you!

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 12:29

@Slk3558 well done 🤗 it'll be better for you mentally. Yes I started using it as soon as I got it yesterday 🤣 it seems you can use it at anytime in your cycle, or at least I couldn't find info to say you couldn't or shouldn't. So I've been putting it on twice a day on wrists, neck, below my ankles and sometimes inner thighs and tummy. I put a roll on attachment onto it so I don't think it gets out as much as a few drops would hence why I'm putting it on lots of places. Can't say I feel any difference at this point but I kind of like the whole ritual of putting it on 😅

It's great that the cream is helping you! I did research it a bit before but never committed to one, wasn't sure if they were good or worth it or safe to use.

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 12:31

@Marvellouslymadmum it sounds like it could be due to it unfortunately. That is frustrating. I'll probably be called to get mine soon and I will get it but it is tricky if it affects your cycle, I guess I'll have to be prepared for that mentally.

Marvellouslymadmum · 02/06/2021 12:47

@choccrumpet I read that for fertility progesterone creams/serums should be used from ovulation to af or beyond with the bfp!

It didn't effect my cycle with the first one so annoying that it's done so much this time! My apps are all over the place, one tells me I'm due af tomorrow one says Ov on 19th may one says I'm 4dpo and the other hasn't got a bloody clue a bit like me 😂

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 13:16

@Marvellouslymadmum I read the same about creams! In terms of the progessence it seems to be different (someone tell me if I'm wrong). It's got multiple benefits for women and can be used not just during ttc so can be used at anytime in the cycle.

Oh no I bet that adds to the confusion 🙈

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 how are you doing today?

Slk3558 · 02/06/2021 15:30

@choccrumpet I did check the ingredients in that oil and it does contain natural progesterone so would say if it contains progesterone even a little bit, best to avoid before ov and take in luteal phase. But since you are past ovulation you can plaster it on. Lol 😆

The progesterone cream has 20mg of natural progesterone for each time you squeeze a measured pump out and they reckon 40-80 mg a day is good support for the endometrium lining. I think there are a lot of people who are skeptical about it, I was scared to use it last month but I was willing to try anything this month. x

Slk3558 · 02/06/2021 15:32

I’ll be sure to update in a few days time, I’d love to have a 12 day luteal phase ..or a BFP 😜

Slk3558 · 02/06/2021 15:34

Still haven’t ordered the soy ... pinning my hopes on a BFP which I know I really shouldn’t do cause it only leads to disappointment !!

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 15:47

@Slk3558 thanks for letting me know, I'll keep that in mind for next month (or hopefully not) and won't use it before ovulation. I couldn't find anything about that online myself.

I feel you there, one month you're terrified to try something new and the next you're doing it all because of desperation (at least that's how I feel sometimes).

I feel the same! Everything has been going well for me this month so far, in my head I don't see why I wouldn't get a bfp but realised today that I need to keep my expectations in check so it doesn't hurt more if it doesn't happen.. I feel so much better mentally this cycle it's hard not to get excited and it's the first time I feel some excitement at the prospect of getting a bfp in a long time, it's so hard to stay neutral isn't it?
🤞🏼 for you!!

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 16:13

This is what I keep seeing about progessence so it is a bit confusing whether it's safe to use throughout the cycle or not

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/06/2021 16:40

Hi @choccrumpet @Marvellouslymadmum and @Slk3558 hope you're all well. I'm good thanks, I'm away atm, we're on a little uk holiday. @Slk3558 💯 order soy last month (if you even need to) Amazon does next day delivery !

Slk3558 · 02/06/2021 16:56

I’ve just found these on Amazon.. would these be the right ones to take ?

SOYA Isoflavones 40mg 60 Capsules (V) . GMO Free, Non-Irradiated. Made by Health4All www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00M9MQZWE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_54PRTSS3SJMHVSHKBA8Y?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Slk3558 · 02/06/2021 17:07

@choccrumpet I just found this on some random website

‘ Well, Progessence Plus® has less than 15 mg per ml of progesterone (about 14.2 or so – just about the max allowed by the FDA) but the secret is in the quality of the progesterone we used. One milliliter (ml) has about 30 drops total in it and so one drop has about 0.5-1.0 mg of progesterone.’

So about 15 mg progesterone per ml/30 drops .. my cream is 20mg per squirt so I’m not sure really..depends how many drops per day you apply. You could always increase the dosage after ov. If they’re saying can be used any time should be ok but progesterone not meant to be used before ov as can interfere if I’m not mistaken x

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 17:29

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 sorry I completely forgot 🤦🏼‍♀️ enjoy your break!

@Slk3558 one thing I'm not sure about is when it says soy isoflavones 40%, does that mean you'll have to take more to make up a dose or is that normal? I don't know much about this, maybe someone else might be able to help you out? Otherwise they look similar to the ones I had.

Thanks for sharing that! I'd say I roll on about 2-3 drops in total at most so I get nowhere near what a cream might contain so I'm not too worried about that. That might be why it says it can be used anytime as it's so diluted? Either way I'm not sure if I'll use it before ovulation, will decide when (if) I get there. Will keep it up for now 🤗

Marvellouslymadmum · 02/06/2021 22:50

@choccrumpet oh really? That's interesting!
@Slk3558 here's hoping for the bfp!
Just check the nutritional info on the soy to make sure it has a good amount in it, mine were 80mg per tablet

Riverskye · 02/06/2021 23:03

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 huge congratulations on getting your line! That's so exciting. Hope it keeps getting darker for you Smile

My cycle finally ended today on day 98, not using soy this cycle... DH and I have decided to take a break and have some "us" time for a cycle without tracking/actively TTC.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/06/2021 23:05

Thanks @choccrumpet !

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/06/2021 23:06

@Riverskye thank you so much, I'm getting pretty dark tests, but still just waiting to see as tested so early.
Ugh that's frustrating, that's so long to have to wait. Do you have the Dr follow up again soon? That sounds like a good plan, you need a rest after that mammoth month of trying

Marvellouslymadmum · 02/06/2021 23:16

@Riverskye that's good it's finally over! Sometimes we all need a break

gimmeavino · 03/06/2021 09:05

Hi all, just checking in as in CD6 and done my day 2-6 now....one thing I've noticed is that I'm very bloated but it's like pelvic bloating rather than in my stomach - don't usually get that with AF so wondering if it's a soy thing. Either way looking forward to seeing if it works!

katewitch · 03/06/2021 09:08

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh wow, congratulations! I got my BFP with DS that early (he is now 6) so please don't worry too much, I am so happy for you! Hope you're enjoying your break Flowers

@Marvellouslymadmum you're really throwing everything at it, I'm in awesome of you honestly! Hopefully it will all pay off soon

@Riverskye enjoy your time relaxing, a mental break is definitely needed sometimes Wine

@Slk3558 my soy said 5000mg(!) but on the back their actual soy isoflavone content was 45mg so I need to take loads of them for a proper dose for TTC, so definitely try to get ones with a higher actual content so you don't rattle like me Grin good luck, hoping you get your BFP!

@choccrumpet you're completely right, I veer wildly between Throwing Everything At It Optimism and Total Despair Refusing to Think About It Because It Will Never Happen... looking forward to another rollercoater of that this cycle Hmm Grin

Sorry if I missed anyone or muddles anything up!

I'm on CD43 and have pink spotting and mild cramps as I normally do pre-AF. I reckon it means I'm around 12dpo so we did actually manage to DTD once in the fertile window, but I'm confident that that's not done the trick, I'vebeen super unwell this past week too with a horrible cold... minimal hope of implantation bleeding here!

It means I ovulated around CD 29/30/31 in line with a medium to high OPK (not peak) on CD29 which was my last IC and by the time more arrived they were gone again!

I cannot decide whether to do soy again next cycle, as it may or may not be that which caused this delay (I have had cycles this long occasionally before). I just don't know what to do for the best!

choccrumpet · 03/06/2021 09:20

@Riverskye a break sounds just right, I don't blame you, that's a super long cycle!

@gimmeavino I didn't get that myself but it might be the soy especially as it's happening whilst you're taking it. Hopefully it works for you 🤞🏼

@katewitch it is a rollercoaster, every cycle is up and down constantly! My first soy cycle pushed my ovulation out further and I had a longer cycle, although not as long as yours. My second soy cycle (current one) has been much better. Completely up to you whether you try it again or not. I'll be stopping it after this one anyways due to blood tests but also don't want to keep relying on it, interested to see what my body does on it's own.
I wonder if you missed your peak when you weren't testing? And you never know, dtd that one time might do the trick but I know what you mean, I knew in my last cycle it wasn't going to happen! Sounds like you'll get an answer any day now either way
