Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@Marvellouslymadmum they were on the shorter side but I suspect still finding themselves after the pill, they started to even out to 28/29 days. That's interesting you ask this though, because soon after they went into 30's. I've been considering switching multi vits because my b12 was so high in last bloods and was looking at the conceive plus vits as they had a lower dose of b12 in them so maybe it might be worth trying to see if my cycles shorten if I was to switch. But is having a longer cycle bad? Maybe these vits make it longer and that's a good thing, I'm not sure. Not decided yet. Hoping I won't have to make that decision this cycle because I won't need to 🙈

Marvellouslymadmum · 30/05/2021 15:34

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 brilliant thank you! H & b was closed so I got the ones I normally get from Tesco as they're a good price and buy 2 get one free and I've checked ingredients for amounts etc then got my ubiquinol from Amazon and the rest Holland and Barratt online to be collected tomorrow £78 total so not too bad for almost everything for both of us minimum 1 month supply for each as was running low on most and that includes a few extras my oh takes too!
@choccrumpet I don't think it's a bad thing as long as it's not too long. Before taking the pregnacare mine were 21-33 days most of the time with the odd 57/66 day cycle. But since pc they've been 24-31 days so a lot better until this one!!

choccrumpet · 30/05/2021 17:42

@Marvellouslymadmum I've seen people complain a lot about pc about making their cycles longer but I don't know if a longer cycle is that bad unless like you say it's ridiculously long, I think it's the change from what they're used to that might be frustrating but who knows. That's amazing that it helped your cycle, that's an incredible change!

I'm a bit nervous about my b12 being so high, apparently not great in pregnancy but I guess I'll worry about that when the time comes. Finish my current pack and then see if I want to switch to something else.

Marvellouslymadmum · 31/05/2021 00:37

@choccrumpet yes I'm rather impressed actually, I'd seen people moaning about them and always said I thought it had helped to regulate my cycles I just didn't realise by how much!! I also didn't think it would go haywire the minute I stopped it 🤦🏼‍♀️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/05/2021 07:13

@choccrumpet I don't think your cycle would be termed as too long, as you still fall in regular category don't you? So surprised by the high b12 given you don't eat meat etc! Have a lovely time at the bbq today!

@Marvellouslymadmum that's so good on the vitamins, you must have shopped so smart! Still so pricey, but to have for more than a months worth of everything for both of you 👍🏻

Choc I think he's just cautiously optimistic at this stage, and probably very relieved because he missed his semen analysis last week due to going out all night drinking the day before 😩

choccrumpet · 31/05/2021 09:04

@Marvellouslymadmum that's strangely coincidental, hopefully once you take them again the effect will take quickly!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 no I agree mine arent long but it's longer than what it used to be but it's hard to tell whether the shorter ones were just regulating after the pill or they were shorter and something made them longer. That's my b12 levels, they've really increased since taking my supplements and my gp wasn't worried about it being so high but it didn't stop me from going down the google spiral 🤣 and thanks! Enjoy the rest of your weekend 🤗

He's got a lucky break for now then 😆 how are you feeling? Have you done any more tests / will be doing any more?

I'm CD18 today and got a high on the IC OPK so should get my peak tomorrow or day after 🥳 so far so good and much earlier than last cycle. Something is working!!

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
Slk3558 · 31/05/2021 10:03

Morning how’s everyone doing today?

Where you all up to? I’m 5 DPO.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 how’s it going ? Done any more tests Grin I tested like a maniac on my last two BFPs. Re the sore boobs I don’t think it’s the progesterone, sore boobs has always been a sign of low progesterone for me, I had when I first came of pill for few cycles, disappeared for the BFP cycles now looks like it’s back again! Absolutely zero hope for a BFP this month though I hate to be negative. I’ve been taking omega 3 fish oil high dose, baby asprin, vitamin E 400 iu, vitamin B complex with 100mg B6, vitamin C 1000mg and vitamin D 1000iu.

I probably being negative for but I know my body and swollen tender breasts was always a sign of hormonal imbalance for me. Genuinely don’t know what more I can do to increase my progesterone.

Where do you all get your soy isoflavones from? And what dosage is best for strong ovulation and induce a bit earlier. I deffo had an issue with my ovulation last two months, aside from ovulating later than normal I’ve had a low temp on LH surge day, but the instead of ovulating the following day as I used to, I ovulate the day after. Which I know isn’t the end of the world but I can help but feel my body was struggling.

How does everyone feel about the soy? Does it make ovulation stronger?
Does it lengthen the leutal phase?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/05/2021 10:35

@choccrumpet wow they've gone up massively!! Just got back from a walk, it's such a lovely day, a perfect day for a bbq 😍 Great news on the coming peak also! I don't have any tests in so I haven't, have stopped temping though.

@Slk3558 I don't know, I was kind of taking it experimentally. I took Natures Aid Soy Isoflavones, and took them days 2-6 100mg, 100mg, 150mg, 150mg, 200mg.

I did notice my luteal phase get longer by 2 days or so, but I also took 1000mg of vitamin C at the same time, which I was also taking for progesterone support. I'll be intrigued by the progessence that has been mentioned earlier as helping with a positive test also. I think the theory behind the soy is meant to be it triggers a big estrogen response, which should in turn then boost progesterone. But like clomid can dry cm a bit, so should also take some grapefruit juice or something for that

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/05/2021 10:38

@Slk3558 and yes I felt it boosted ovulation for me. Before taking it I was getting diffident ovulation tests, ovulation at CD20 and beyond etc (for a 28 day cycle). With soy I got quick strong peaks, at CD14 for both cycles I took it. And luteal phase was 12 days for both cycles also

choccrumpet · 31/05/2021 10:49

When I said high ICs I meant it was a positive OPK but my app is reading as high and not peak although technically it could be the peak if it's lower tomorrow but the past few cycles I've had a few days of positive OPKs so assuming this isn't my peak.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know I'm delighted about it but still open minded in case it takes longer still, trying to not let it upset me. You'll probably feel better mentally for it! Keep us updated, I don't want to keep asking in case you're trying to not think about it! And yes it's amazing outside ☺️

@Slk3558 I took the same soy as @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 and did cd2-6 both cycles, recent one being 100,150,200,200,200 and that has worked better for me so far than my previous cycle as the dosage was lower than this. I've had good ewcm, lots of it before and during ovulation, mild headaches start of my cycle. This cycle I'm feeling lots of twinges / ovulation cramps which I never have before, have been nauseous on and off which is something new for me, definitely more ovulation symptoms. Don't know if that's good or bad, I'm guessing it's good as I don't normally feel these things. I do acupuncture as well so that is probably helping too just so you know, it won't be all down to soy. My OPK peak readings are a lot stronger, whether that means much I don't know. My luteal phase has stayed the same, 11 days. Interested to see what this cycles is as I've been having all these symptoms!

Marvellouslymadmum · 31/05/2021 10:54

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm a bit of a bargain Hunter so took half a day researching where was best of the three (didn't go too mad with loads of different places) so thought it wasn't bad. The oh takes a couple of extras for guy health due to ibs too so without those would've been even less!

@choccrumpet I took my first one yesterday so let's see what happens!

@Slk3558 I got mine from Amazon and they definitely made my ovulation stronger the first month, I had really sore boobs, and felt ovulation whereas I don't generally get that! I can't comment on changing the Lp as mine changes every month anyway. For the progesterone I've been looking at the creams it says not scientifically backed but can't do any harm! I haven't taken the soy this month and from my temp chart so far had two failed ov attempts but not sure if that's due to soy, pregnancare as I ran out or both!!

Which ovulation strips do people use? And do you find them reliable? I use the cb advanced tests but also strips as I can use them more per day and after ov as they're cheap and this month my cb didn't arrive in time so I've just been using strips but used the last one this morning so need to get more - should've ordered yesterday with the vits! 🙄 I've been using the Femometer ones which are reliable but £9.99 for 40 Lh and 10 ph the one step ones are the same amount for £5.99 but don't know how good they are. Anyone used them?

choccrumpet · 31/05/2021 11:42

@Marvellouslymadmum 🤞🏼 you see a change soon! I have used the one step pregnancy strips and they're not great so going by that I'm not sure how reliable the LH strips are. I use easy@home for LH, never had an issue with them, you take a pic of the strips on the premom app and it gives you a reading. I doubt the reading is 100% but you can see when it's low, high and peak and that's good enough for me. Not sure how they compare price wise though.

Slk3558 · 31/05/2021 13:10

Thanks ladies. I think I’ll give soy a try next cycle , only thing is can’t wait to see about BFP because have to order in advance for them to arrive in time for CD2 or 3 so might have to order soon.

Don’t wanna speak too soon but the breast tenderness seems to be diminishing a bit today. Maybe it’s progesterone cream kicking in? Who knows!

@choccrumpet glad you’re feeling positive and getting good ovulations signs. I’ll be waiting for you in the tww. Lol.

Marvellouslymadmum · 31/05/2021 14:39

@choccrumpet that may I'll take a look at those, that's the same as the Femometer ones too.

🤞🏻 for you @Slk3558 you never know!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/05/2021 18:36

@choccrumpet let me know how you go! I'm off on (a UK) holiday in a couple days so will hopefully have plenty to distract me. I did test earlier and the lines a bit darker.

@Marvellouslymadmum good job bargain hunting! That's amazing, I know how much all those vitamins cost when you don't bargain hunt 😓 so you got a good deal 😂

@Slk3558 hopefully the progesterone cream will work for you 🤞

choccrumpet · 01/06/2021 09:04

Morning ladies, my OPK this morning was positive but not as dark as yesterday so my app has changed my peak to yesterday and predicting ovulation today CD19 😆 that's 5 days earlier than my previous cycle 🥳 I'm really happy about that. Have continued to get random ovulation cramps. How are you all doing this morning?

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 im sure a break will be good for you! I had 4 days off over this weekend and I don't want to go back to work today. And glad that the tests are getting darker ☺️ how are you feeling?

@Marvellouslymadmum one time premom had a discount code where you could get a pack of OPKs for a couple pennies. I've been checking to see if that offer returns and can let you know if I ever see it again. It'll be in the coupon section in the premom app.

@Slk3558 a few days behind you now 🤗 how are you getting on?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/06/2021 09:12

@choccrumpet yay 🥳

I'm okay thanks, not up to much today. Quite tired after socialising a lot, is anyone else finding that? My partner was saying the same, we aren't used to it anymore 😂

How's everyone?

Slk3558 · 01/06/2021 09:26

@choccrumpet woo glad you’re ovulating earlier than last month. The build up to OV is stressful even though it should be fun .

I’m okay, my boobs feel less tender today but I could resist and tempted this morning and was 36.72 and got deflated as felt it was low ..promised myself I wouldn’t temp for this reason!!

Still applying the cream hoping it extends my leutal phase but for some reason I don’t feel positive. One good thing about a short leutal phase is the tww isn’t painfully long before AF. I don’t think I could cope with a 14 day wait !

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 exhaustion is common in week 4 as your hormones are rising rapidly!

choccrumpet · 01/06/2021 09:34

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yep everyone left at a decent time yesterday and normally our bbqs would go well into the night but I was exhausted by 7pm! Definitely feeling tired after a small amount of socialising.

@Slk3558 I think this cycle I've been the most relaxed compared to previous ones! I don't like the waiting so that probably puts me over the edge over anything else but I was chill about it this time.
Maybe you should put your thermometer away from your bed if that's where you temp, so you can't even do it first thing?
At least with the LP we have an idea of when it'll come to an end. Waiting for ovulation is a complete mystery to me, who knows when it will happen 😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/06/2021 09:51

@Slk3558 I'd count that as a high temperature! 36.72 is meant to show a decent level of progesterone. I know it's different person to person though. Ah no re the socialising I felt like this last weekend also, and I seem to have got very old over the space of a year, because pubs and people all talking loudly over each other is deafening 😂

@choccrumpet that gives you a nice evening to chill and watch a film! Did the same on Sunday, were with people it normally goes on until the sun is rising, we all left by 11 😂

choccrumpet · 01/06/2021 10:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's exactly what we did! I've never been much of a drinker so this finishing early business suits me well 😆 I just got my progessence delivered, unsure about the smell but excited to use it. Did you end up ordering one?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/06/2021 10:14

@choccrumpet no I didn't but excited to hear how it goes this cycle with it!

Slk3558 · 01/06/2021 10:37

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks .. I’ll try and be more positive 😂 and yes @choccrumpet I think I need to put it away to stop myself ! No temping tomorrow.

I’m 6 DPO today annoying DPO as too early to test and symptoms mean nothing at this point lol.

choccrumpet · 02/06/2021 08:25

@Slk3558 you're right it is an annoying DPO time but you're almost there, you'll have an answer soon enough 🤞🏼 I should be 1dpo today yay

Marvellouslymadmum · 02/06/2021 10:45

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 hope you have a lovely time away, so glad the tests are getting darker for you too!

@choccrumpet oh that's a good offer I'll have to check that! Glad you got your peak my ovulation is still Mia 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Slk3558 that's a good temp, mine are usually 36.5/6 in Lp it is currently 36.19 and I've eno clue what's going on

Annoyingly we have managed every other day at a minimum for the last two weeks but probably for absolutely no reason whatsoever
