Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@TheHotelCalifornia nothing yet other than being really tired but I think that's my own doing haha

@TheHotelCalifornia welcome back, hope you ovulate soon! Break sounds amazing, some time out will be lovely. I can't wait to get away also. Ha yes the dreaded thermometer beep 🤣 maybe I need to start being as proactive as you guys. I kind of laze about reading the news.

@choccrumpet I hear you on the exhaustion, we haven't had sex since ovulation, even though my partner professes every day is ideal for him 🤣 obviously not

Morning, how is everyone?

katewitch · 30/04/2021 12:23

Hi everyone! Hoping I can hop on the thread Smile

I'm officially Cycle 1 of TTC #2 (DS is 6 and I had much more regular cycles then!). We have been NTNP since January but nothing so far. My cycles are usually 36-56 days(!) and often have a failed ovulation attempt before actually getting there...

I gave soy isoflavones a try last cycle to see what they did (CD3-7, 90, 90, 135, 135, 90). I had a failed attempt on CD18 and finally ovulated CD27, which felt strong.

This cycle I've tried CD2-6, 90, 90, 135, 135, 135. I'm now CD9 and starting to have my usual ovulation symptoms which is bizarre! Will take an OPK when I get home Confused

Fingers crossed for everyone TTC this month Flowers

@katewitch hi that sounds positive, keep us posted! That does seem very early compared to your normal cycle.

choccrumpet · 30/04/2021 16:51

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my fertility week / 2 weeks is so intense for us we rarely have sex at other times of my cycle ☹️

I got my peak this morning! Assuming it's pure coincidence with the acupuncture last night. Cd22 so not too bad but it is quite late, I can only assume the soy pushed it back more.

I also booked acupuncture with the other lady in a week and a bit so am looking forward to that 🤗

Hi @katewitch that sounds really positive! I started getting ewcm near the start of my cycle and I thought ovulation would be earlier but it then stopped. Will be interesting to see when yours will be!

choccrumpet · 30/04/2021 17:07

Forgot to ask, I know a few of you have mentioned your partners having certain tests done. What can they get checked with a GP in terms of basic fertility testing? How was your / your partners experience of this? Going the GP / NHS route

Twiggywinkle13 · 30/04/2021 17:09

Hi everyone!

Just had my positive OPK, CD15. It’s a fair bit stronger than previous ones so maybe that’s a good sign. Will get BD’ing all weekend for sure. Hopefully this is the month I get pregnant!

How’s everyone else doing?

katewitch · 30/04/2021 17:38

Well we have a faint line on my cheapie OPK, so not positive but also more than I usually have on CD9! Who knows Confused

Just a waiting game but will start DTD as per SMEP just in case...! May be a tiring few weeks if the positive doesn't arrive Grin

@choccrumpet good luck as you head into the TWW! 🤞🏻

choccrumpet · 30/04/2021 17:48

Yay for peak @Twiggywinkle13 ! It's a good enough cycle day to get a peak so that's great!

Thanks @katewitch ! My fertile week lasts so long it is definitely exhausting in that way 😅

For some reason I'm sure it won't happen this cycle 🤷🏼‍♀️ not in a bad way, just don't think it will.

My pomegranate juice came, I think I went over board but hopefully it will help

Marvellouslymadmum · 30/04/2021 20:05

@katewitch hi and welcome

@choccrumpet I think the other thing they can have tested is sa besides any vitamin deficiencies etc. My oh has a referal for sa we are just waiting for an appt. I have had 4 blood tests (basically checked absolutely everything!) but have now been referred to gynaecology for more investigations which is an 8 month wait 😑

@Twiggywinkle13 that's a great opk line!

I'm 5dpo (I think, apps can't decide if 5 or 8 🙄) and strangely no Ov pain or signs at all this month, no symptoms of anything at all!!

Twiggywinkle13 · 30/04/2021 20:23

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed for you. I absolutely hate the TWW. I’m convinced every single month - for the last year - that I must be pregnant. Fingers crossed this time we actually are!

choccrumpet · 30/04/2021 20:26

Ah thanks @Marvellouslymadmum so apart from bloods the rest (SA) is a referral, that's good to know. Oh I'm sorry about that, that's so crap! I've been referred for multiple losses and I think will be seeing a gyno as well although I'm not sure, not been told anything and know nothing about it but I wonder if it's the same process and seeing the same people. I've been waiting since January and have not heard of initial appointments and haven't been told how long the wait is. I wonder if 8 months is an indication. (Which is frustrating!)

I wonder if my super tiredness has anything to do with ovulation (and soy). I'm feeling quite nauseous at the moment and have started cramping a bit, I haven't noticed this before around ovulation. I think ovulation pains can come and go from what I've seen others say, maybe that's what happened with you this month?

Marvellouslymadmum · 30/04/2021 20:39

@Twiggywinkle13 I always have some hope (though god knows when when ttc for over 3 years 😂) I go from - could be pregnant? 😁to Don't be stupid! 🤦🏼‍♀️ About every ten minutes of the day.

@choccrumpet they haven't referred me for multiple losses even though I've had them but I'm going to try questioning that on Tuesday too! I think it depends on the area who you get referred to. It will depend on your area for wait times too, I initially got a letter after about 10 days saying if I didn't get an appointment through by the end of March to ring and book, I rang and was told appointments aren't going out yet but it's approx 33 week wait so I'll just get a letter!! I've also been tired and slightly nauseous but think it's too early for implantation so could be to do with ov or soy - who knows!! 🤷🏼‍♀️

choccrumpet · 30/04/2021 21:05

@Twiggywinkle13 I get exactly the same 😂 although the times I had a chemical I felt different like something was happening, sort of knew I was pregnant but who knows! I bet the time i get a sticky one I won't notice a thing.

@Marvellouslymadmum I know each area would be different, I'm grasping at straws to try understand how long the wait is although I actually completely forgot about it until now 😅 at least you've got some sort of indication now and hopefully it'll get less as time goes on and things reopen properly so you don't have to wait the full 8 months. I've been super super tired recently - I wonder if it IS the soy! That would be interesting. And maybe nausea is stronger ovulation due to soy again

Marvellouslymadmum · 30/04/2021 21:12

@choccrumpet I really do hope it won't be that long because I'm running out of time! I was 42 in March so can't really afford to wait! Maybe they're both the soy!

acaciabluebell · 30/04/2021 22:18

Just finished taking my SI dose this month. Took 120, 120, 200, 200, 200 from days 3-7. No side effects this time. Let's hope that this cycle is the one

Twiggywinkle13 · 30/04/2021 23:53

Typically get a positive opk and DH is unwell. Sigh. Is there any point trying tomorrow? I’m not sure how soon after a positive OPK you’re likely to ovulate?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/05/2021 09:07

@Marvellouslymadmum eight months 😱 when you've been trying for three years. Wow hopefully they move a lot quicker.

@Twiggywinkle13 and @katewitch sounds positive! Twiggy, I'd say try today if he's better, its meant to be 24 hours isn't it? I'd go for it anyway.

@marvellouslymadmum and @choccrumpet sorry you're feeling not so great. Hope its not the soy! Although if it is, easy fix, can stop taking it 😅

choccrumpet · 01/05/2021 09:30

The nausea was bearable, never had it before around this time so was wondering what it could be! Also I was mistaken yesterday, got my dye stealer peak today. Cd 23 🤦🏼‍♀️ third long cycle. Might keep going with soy to try bring it forward but will prob speak to my acupuncturist and see what she says

Marvellouslymadmum · 01/05/2021 10:14

@acaciabluebell I've had no side effects the whole cycle as far as I can tell! Unless the tiredness and slight nausea are from it 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Twiggywinkle13 that's exactly what happened to me! We dtd on Thursday and got my peak Saturday! We did try Sunday but he wasn't up to it 🙁 you can ovulate 12-48 hours after the Lh surge so worth a go anyway

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 me too! It's a crazy wait time! That's why I tried soy willing to give anything a go now

@choccrumpet I get nausea every month really from ovulation to af on and off

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/05/2021 10:36

@choccrumpet sounds good to consult her! When's your appointment?

I don't know what's going on at the moment, I'm 10dpo, have had cramping all morning, and tiny specks of blood in CM I think - tinging it a yellow colour. Made it to 12 days last month before any of this, so hoping I'm not regressing and getting a shorter luteal phase

@Marvellouslymadmum it must be ovulation / soy! I'm interested to see if I actually feel anything when I ovulate

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Monday week so quite a while to go! Ooh have you experienced this before? Could it be implantation bleeding instead? Are you thinking of testing? I don't know how you've gone 10 days without testing 🙈

Marvellouslymadmum · 01/05/2021 11:09

@choccrumpet I got literally no ov pain or anything this month! Most odd
