Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I hate this waiting around, it makes it so much harder!

Yikes that is a lot. My friend has recommended a place near me and I think it's a bit cheaper according to their website but I've contacted them anyways and waiting to hear back, I've heard a lot about general acupuncture helping with all sorts of things so if they think it might benefit me I might try. I just want to regulate my cycle, it's getting out of hand now and affecting me mentally. Soy seemed to have helped yours and maybe that's why you're not seeing much of a difference yet? Maybe acupuncture could help mine. Desperation makes you want to try anything and everything that might help... it could maybe help with my low mood too if that it caused by hormones / imbalance..

I'll have a look for that thread!

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/04/2021 11:28

@choccrumpet I've never had acupuncture but I've spoken to some that have and had great results from it. Some people have said it's around £60 a session and if you get the right ones they don't make you go too often, maybe once per cycle and it works well

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 28/04/2021 11:39

@choccrumpet I also picked a place in central London for convenience, and a Zita West trained one (as I didn't have any recommendations for any others close to where I live and work), so it probably would be cheaper if I had shopped around a bit. Its £85 a session. That's awesome you've a recommendation for somewhere less!

@Marvellouslymadmum she has said to go every week for five to six weeks in a row, and then once or twice a month after this as maintenance - does this sound right? She also said that if people have had a loss previously, she recommends going two to three times a month throughout the first trimester also if they fall pregnant.

How are you today?

choccrumpet · 28/04/2021 13:15

@Marvellouslymadmum @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've commented in the acupuncture thread about this but wanted to update you here. The woman who was recommended to me wouldn't answer and I've got no patience left and wanted something done ASAP so have found someone who is Zita West trained near me as I think that would probably be better anyways as he's more specialised in this area than her from what I could see, spoke to him over the phone and booked my first appointment for tomorrow. £45 for 45 mins. Will see how it goes!

He said a weekly appointment would be best as they have a knock on effect on each other but I can see how it goes and stop if I want as I'm paying for them separately. And I should feel better from the appointments, improve my energy levels and hopefully regulate my cycle.

Only odd thing he mentioned was for me to consider eating meat (??) as red meat helps with uterine lining I think he said better than any veggies do but is up to me.. I keep hearing both that veggie is good for pregnancy and it's not but I'm sure it's not rare to be pregnant and not eat meat so not sure wha to think of that

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 28/04/2021 14:13

Wow I am really overpaying 😂 The other one I looked at nearby was more, so I almost felt like I’d got a deal!

Hope it works for you @choccrumpet

choccrumpet · 28/04/2021 15:33

It's probably because of your location @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ! I'm wondering whether mine is a bit too low.. like is he going to be good enough 😂 the other place was £55 so strange there is a bit of a difference even here.

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/04/2021 16:26

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 the ladies I've spoken to have only been once a month no I'm not entirely sure! I'm good thanks, taking my cycle as 3dp as I got my peak on Saturday though my apps are all confused lol how are you?

@choccrumpet that sounds more reasonable maybe they just prefer the weekly approach! As far as the meat thing goes I've no idea, I've heard conflicting stories but for me it would be a huge no lol I've been a vegetarian for 26 years (including when I conceived carried and had my two teenagers) so you can definitely have a healthy pregnancy as a veggie but who knows what's best!

choccrumpet · 28/04/2021 16:50

@Marvellouslymadmum that's great to hear but also as I thought.. I don't think it's fair to say that as veggies we'll struggle with pregnancies. Although I have also heard of certain health conditions (like issues with thyroids) requiring meat and I think that's something different. I don't have any issues there as far as I know

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/04/2021 16:55

@choccrumpet hmm certainly something to consult dr google over again! Lol

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 28/04/2021 18:32

@choccrumpet having consulted dr google, this is the best thing I found about it heidibrockmyre.com/blog/2014/12/15/how-to-increase-your-lining-in-48-hours-or-less Red meat is one of the things recommended.

choccrumpet · 28/04/2021 19:14

I just checked as well and pomegranate juice doesn't seem to be mentioned unless you search for it. And yes meat seams to be the simplest way of getting all that good stuff which is a bit annoying. I tick a few points on that list @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 not sure if it's enough. But like @Marvellouslymadmum said, I'm not really willing to go that far unless I really have to and there is no other way.

Also tried my Waitrose and they didn't have the right pomegranate juice. So am going to try find some tomorrow. I've also tried raspberry leaf tea before but got a bit bored of having to drink it so regularly..

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/04/2021 19:51

I heard about the Pom juice from others on Mumsnet but as soon as you google this comes up, I get mine from Tesco

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
choccrumpet · 28/04/2021 20:47

@Marvellouslymadmum I saw the same 🤗 which one do you get? I've gotten the Pom one before but as @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 has pointed out, it's from concentrate and dr google is telling me not from concentrate juice is purest and has all its natural vitamins rather than other additives. But am now struggling to find one that's not from concentrate!

choccrumpet · 28/04/2021 21:31

This was the best I could find online, have probably completely overpaid 🤦🏼‍♀️ www.dolphinfitness.co.uk/en/biona-organic-pomegranate-pure-juice-1000ml-6/120678

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 29/04/2021 07:14

Oh crap I was using Pom but it is from concentrate! Thanks @Marvellouslymadmum I also didn’t realise it’s really good for men, so guess who’s going to be brought some pomegranate juice in bed each morning 😂 I have a health shop that sells biona, thanks @choccrumpet, I’ll get that one next cycle.

Also I saw a lot of it it is warming broths for the TCM fertility. Our butcher chucks out nearly all the bones. We get them for our dog or my partner makes bone broth in the slow cooker with them. Weirdly I don’t mind having soups or noodles made with some non veggie stock. I couldn’t eat meat, don’t want to contribute to more animals dying, but the bones are thrown away anyway. It’s kind of our compromise, partners not veggie but eats veggie with me in the home, and some meals have some bone broth in

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 29/04/2021 07:16

I know it’s deeply personal @choccrumpet but if you’re worried you could always try a broth. If you put loads of onions, carrots etc in and herbs, it doesn’t really taste too bad

IntergalacticP · 29/04/2021 08:04

Well I'm out. Period started last night. I think it was a bad batch of tests. They all had the same extremely faint line but I took two of a different brand and there was absolutely nothing.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 29/04/2021 08:08

@IntergalacticP I’m really sorry 😐 Were they frers? Have been seeing there are bad indent lines on those on some threads.
On the plus side though, you had your period, starting a new and hopefully much shorter cycle, and good luck for this month 🤞 but it’s always so disappointing the day period arrives

choccrumpet · 29/04/2021 09:46

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 to be honest I'm not worried. I'll try the pomegranate juice and unless I am told to do something else I'm considering myself okay.

Sounds like the bone broth / soups are working for you, makes sense as you get the anyways 🤗

I thought Pom was okay based on previous research I had done so am a bit annoyed by that 😅 you really learn something new everyday!

choccrumpet · 29/04/2021 09:48

@IntergalacticP that really sucks!! Could it have been a chemical and the tests were positive? Different brands do pick up positives differently or maybe it was a bad batch.

I got another pack of one steps and was trying them out and loads showed indent lines / lines without colour, had to take a frer to double check which was negative

Frankie2015 · 29/04/2021 09:53

Followed this thread so I bought some soy isoflavones 50mg. Finally started my period after 42 day cycle and think I'm going to to days 2-6 not sure on dosage though!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 29/04/2021 10:13

@choccrumpet maybe someone else will have some better advice on what they’ve been told diet wise. My acupuncturist seemed to think my veggie diet was fine. I forgot to even mention the stock as well.
Both of our scans looked okay from lining also, so hopefully it’s a non issue for us 🤞
Two of my friends who are veggie both fell pregnant by accident also 😤😂

Hi @Frankie2015 on dosage, on the other soy thread I was told start higher 100mg or more. The ladies had started lower and their ovulation was delayed. When they went to 200mg, it moved it forward. Don’t go higher than 200mg at all

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 29/04/2021 10:14

Sorry that was a typo, they started at 100mg for the first two days, increasing the dose after this to 150mg!

Frankie2015 · 29/04/2021 11:08

Thank you @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 definitely don't want my ovulation to be delayed as it normally late anyway. Is there any harm just doing 200mg on all days or is there a reason to ramp up do you know?

choccrumpet · 29/04/2021 11:20

@Frankie2015 I'm on cd21 and still no peak! 😤 took soy cd2-6 100,100,100,150,200 so am wondering if it wasn't enough ugh so frustrating! It's the latest I know I've ovulated, unless I have missed it. I have ewcm and my cervix is high and open so I don't believe I have yet. Just waiting for it happen any day now but I am so frustrated, this cycle has been crap. If I continue on soy next cycle I'll reconsider what days to take it on and probably increase my dosage sooner rather than later
