Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

Hi, do you mind if I join? First, congratulations @Lastyearttc on the amazing news! I hope it all goes smoothly.
I’m 42 now, 43 in October and have a 5 year old who is my world. I always wanted 2 and that’s what hubby and I agreed years ago. Ever since my son was born I’ve been even more keen as I want a wee friend for him. Unprompted, he asks me every few days when he can have a brother or sister - getting hard to cope with that.
Been ttc on and off (i.e. no contraception and when we feel like it, which isn’t often tbh!) for 18 months, but more seriously in past 6 months. Been worried since last year, but now it’s real rising panic. There are several reasons why we didn’t ttc immediately after having our son, but I’m so angry with myself though for not just fighting through things and getting on with it. Doing the 21 days thing on Monday and I’m pretty terrified that I have early-ish menopause. When I call for the results, does anyone know how they give them to you? I mean, what am I hoping to hear/not hear? Sometimes the doctor’s receptionists just read out numbers (understandably) and I’m keen to understand what they’re saying to me.
Planning to investigate uniquinol but I’m cautious.
GP said to relax and not use clearblue stuff but I just bought a load...
Any words of wisdom would be amazing. Just knowing others are going though this helps a lot. There’s nobody I feel I can talk to. That’s probably why this is so long - sorry! Xx

Jem1979 · 19/08/2021 19:01

Hi @Sash78 welcome to the chat! No real words of wisdom from me, though I'm in a very similar boat to you. Turned 42 on Sat and have a 2 year old. Also really want a second and been TTC since last June. Don't be too hard on yourself for not trying earlier, you are trying now so keep the faith! Funnily enough I am also going for 21day bloods on Monday! Be great if anyone can let us know what to expect. I have been taking ubiquinol since the start of the year. It is a definite help speaking to others going through this, and hearing news of BFP's like @Lastyearttc x

Thanks guys. With regards to the bloods, I had day 3 I think and day 21 bloods. They sent me the results in the post and they had ranges so you could see if the results were in the normal range or not. Happy to share mine if that helps anyone once you get yours.

I was also on coq10.

Sash78 · 19/08/2021 20:38

Thanks @Jem1979, yes need to try and calm down and I am extremely grateful for my wee boy so count my blessings. I'm sure stress is really bad for cycle - I'm guessing that's why people are mentioning acupuncture etc. Funny we're both going for bloods Monday! Best of luck.
@Lastyearttc I hadn't even thought they might post the results, good to know, thanks. If they don't provide any context, I might get back to you, I have looked online but can't find that info.

GingerFox2021 · 20/08/2021 00:18

Hi @Sash78 I had my day 21 bloods done couple weeks ago. The receptionist also told the numbers only but I started questioning her straight away. So mine is 55.6 mnol and
to ovulate you need over 28. But I have read on MN that different GPs give a very different min number to ovulate.
Yes, I think that stress can stop from happening to conceive as it all goes to the brain and then it makes body to react opposite. I’m very keen to try an acupuncture- scared at the same time, but definitely want. I’m cautious about Ubiquinol too- but again on the very edge of trying it.

Jem1979 · 20/08/2021 07:40

@GingerFox2021
thanks for sharing its helpful to know your results. Will see what mine come back as! I'm also keen to try acupuncture just haven't managed to get around to it yet!

Thanks for the numbers @GingerFox2021. They sound positive for you 😄

GingerFox2021 · 21/08/2021 00:33

@Sash78 @Jem1979 I was pleased about the results as expected them to be low for some reason. I hope you both get high ones, too.
Feeling very obsessive about TTC and desperate and don’t know what to do 🤷‍♀️.

Sash78 · 21/08/2021 01:16

Sorry to hear that @GingerFox2021. I’m obsessing too. It’s really hard to find a way to relax. But if you decide a plan, with supplements, SMEP, Pre-seed, IVF, or whatever you choose, and you’re following that plan, then you’re doing all you can. Try not to give yourself a hard time.
If you’re not sure about acupuncture maybe consider something else like reflexology or reiki, or even swimming or something? Whatever works for you. Hope you feel better in the morning x

GingerFox2021 · 21/08/2021 22:49

Thank you @Sash78 I am generally fine, just some days - being optimistic, some days- not so much. I don’t even know why I am putting off the acupuncture.. I really love the idea of it 🤷‍♀️Kind of can’t decide.

99pctpractice · 22/08/2021 07:05

Hey @GingerFox2021 I can sympathise a lot with the feeling that you’re obsessive over ttc!! I am definitely overthinking it too. I have been doing acupuncture for a couple of months : I see a fertility coach who does acupuncture (she also gives me a facial massage while the needles are in). It is bliss. I get to rant about all my lack-of-pregnancy fears to someone who completely gets it and then to lay back and relax. I definitely come out of the sessions feeling a lot more centred and less stuck in my own head. So even if I it hasn’t got me pregnant yet, it is definitely helping my mental health!

GingerFox2021 · 07/09/2021 15:11

Hello Ladies!
@Sash78 @Jem1979 how was your Day 21 blood testing? Today I also had an abdominal and vaginal scan which also showed all good. So I guess, just to keep trying 🤷‍♀️

Jem1979 · 25/09/2021 08:02

Hi @GingerFox2021 sorry for my radio silence. Great to hear your scans showed as normal. When I phoned for my 21-day results I was just told 'all returned normal'. I asked the receptionist if there were any numbers recorded but was told that was all the Dr had written?!

But.... some news.... I got a BFP a couple of weeks ago. Feeling excited but very cautious after my experience earlier this year. Been feeling ok, a bit nauseous and then my wee one brought home the vomiting bug from nursery which me and my hubby both caught too. Horrible few days! Thankfully recovered now and just back from a break away with my in-laws. Just taking one day at a time and sending lots of positive vibes to this little bean.

Hope everyone else doing ok x

Ahhh Congratulations @Jem1979. Such great news, try to be positive. All the best! How many weeks do you think you are?

Jem1979 · 25/09/2021 12:53

@GingerFox2021 thank you! Think I'm 6/7 weeks, def feeling more symptoms this time around but might book an early scan for reassurance.

OP posts:
Twothirtyam · 25/09/2021 15:14

@Jem1979 that’s fantastic! It’s so funny when the notification came up I thought ‘ooh I hope this is a pregnancy notification!!’ Wishing you all the best for this pregnancy. Will you be getting early scans?
I’m coming up to ovulation and actually feeling really negative about it ever happening so it’s lovely to hear your positive news 😊

birdbybird · 25/09/2021 17:55

Congratulations @Jem1979

Jem1979 · 25/09/2021 19:38

Aw thanks @birdbybird and @Twothirtyam yes think will book a private scan in the next couple of weeks as 12 week one still a good way off. Just taking it day by day and trying not to think too far ahead. Oh I know exactly how you are feeling, it's hard to stay positive as the months roll on. Though just keep telling yourself it only takes one egg. I'm lucky in that I have a younger hubby who is up for DTD plenty during fertile window...! Lol. But again, you only need to do it once. Hoping everyone else gets their good news soon! x

birdbybird · 25/09/2021 20:02

@Jem1979 what number cycle was this?

@Twothirtyam I've just ovulated yesterday I think... so we're very close!

Jem1979 · 26/09/2021 09:20

@birdbybird number 4 since MC in April x

Sash78 · 30/09/2021 00:25

@Jem1979 Congratulations!! Lovely news! I hope you’ve been feeling well since you recovered from the bug.

Sorry for going quiet. Several family issues all happening at once. On the bright side, dealing with all that has made me think and stress less about TTC!

@GingerFox2021 Results were at 22days 0, and at 32 days 6.5. It took 8 days for the 22-day test result to come back, which is why I had a 10 day gap before re-testing. I have a long cycle that varies a bit so I’m hoping I missed almost the entire peak. New cycle now, so I’m back later this week to try at day 26. It’s frustrating!

How are you getting on @99pctpractice?

Mattieandmummy · 30/09/2021 07:21

Just marking my place x

Twothirtyam · 30/09/2021 08:08

Hope you’re feeling well @Jem1979 and that everyone else is doing well!
I’m 3dpo and just so fed up with the TWW. I dreamt last night that I was pregnant and it was so disappointing when I woke up! Genuinely not sure how many cycles I have left in me to try! Think I’m going to finally bite the bullet and get a fertility assessment when my cycle restarts in a couple of weeks.

Jem1979 · 04/10/2021 19:50

@Sash78 thank you! Sorry to hear you've had a lot going on & hope you are doing ok. @Twothirtyam oh I've had a few very vivid pregnancy dreams and felt so gutted waking up. Think it's a good idea for you to get a fertility assessment. Am feeling ok, nauseous most days but strangely not until the afternoon. Haven't been sick at least so I can't really complain. Had a scan on Sat, measuring at 8+6 and heartbeat was strong. So I was delighted and really relieved, just hope everything continues to progress well x

Sash78 · 11/10/2021 09:56

Hi ladies, I hope you're all doing well. I have irregular periods and am now CD38, which is a day over my second longest ever cycle. I just had a negative test result on a cheapie paper stick. My son keeps asking when he can have a brother or sister like all his friends and it's so hard. Even though I try to explain to him that it's not something we're preventing him from having, I think he feels like he's not deserved it or something. Is anyone else having similar issues with explaining things to a LO, and how do you reassure them it's not their fault? It's the main reason I want to get pregnant. He's got issues so I'm scared for his future and really pretty desperate to give him a little friend who will stand by him in life. If I can't do that, what do I say to him? xx
