Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

Hi everyone, hope it's OK to join a thread this late, but we have just restarted trying to conceive our second child and it's really helpful to read others' experiences. We had our son in Nove 2016, then delayed trying for a second for a bit as my dad passed away when my son was only was 5 months old, following a long illness. We started trying in 2018, but I had two miscarriages in 2019, the second quite dramatic and drawn out (at 9 weeks) and started treatment at a recurring miscarriage clinic (I'd had a third before my son was born). Unfortunately then my husband started suffering from depression and started a course of antidepressants. Although they assured us they wouldn't affect us trying to conceive, the tablets made this impossible, so for the past year we have been unable to try for a baby. This has been really difficult, especially as during this time I've turned 40! Thankfully, my husband's managed to come off the antidepressants now and we are in the first month of trying to conceive again. Currently in the 2WW zone, with everything crossed.

Hello everyone- so I decided to go for the HSG and it really was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was terrified, but it was largely painless.

But it did fail, as the dye kept coming back out (not necessarily because of a blockage I was told but probably a cervix issue). Am disappointed that I might not have had the “clean out” I was expecting.

Anyone else has this?

Jem1979 · 22/06/2021 18:48

@OneLifeThreeGuvnors of course most welcome to join us older gals, always good to hear from new people! Sounds like you've had a tough time since your son was born. Hope you are doing ok now, great your hubby is off the meds and good luck with TTC #2.

@Cashewcookie well done you! Great you managed to go through with it although I'm sorry it didn't work properly. I'm not any help am afraid as don't know anything about it. Maybe @Lastyearttc might have some advice?

Hi ladies,
I noticed some of you ladies have recommended ubiquinol, did your doctor prescribe it? If not, how did you know what dose to take and what if it does more harm than good ! Older mum here x

Lastyearttc · 23/06/2021 23:02

@Cashewcookie I had a hycosy last cycle, and only a little fluid came out after, which was clear actually... so not sure I particularly felt flushed out either! Have since had a period too so didn't catch. On the upside, at least I know the anatomy is all ok down there!

Mattieandmummy · 24/06/2021 08:26

@extrahotcoffee I take 600mg a day split into 3 doses as I read your body struggles to process more than 200mg a time and I buy it online. I don't think you can get a prescription for ubiquinol on the NHS - it's not cheap either.

There's a book called 'It all starts with an egg' which talks about supplements and the reasoning and studies behind taking each, I thought it was a fairly convincing read. Might be worth having a look, helpful for any sperm issues too.

Mattieandmummy · 24/06/2021 08:28

@cashewcookie I also had a HyCoSy a few weeks ago, it was fine a bit uncomfortable but nothing to write home about either. It was clear apart from mild adenomyosis 😬, I think only a little bit of fluid came out afterwards - nothing major. I hope it did some good 🤞

Extrahotcoffee · 24/06/2021 08:48

@Mattieandmummy thanks for replying.
I am recovering from a miscarriage. I think my egg quality isn't great as I had a miscarriage at 2019. I will be trying natrually again. I thought ubiquinol benifited those embarking on ivf.
I hope to see a gynaecologist soon who I hope can help.

Cashewcookie · 24/06/2021 14:40

@Lastyearttc @Mattieandmummy thank you for your replies.
It was something like: the balloon can’t get wedged in enough to build up dye pressure (obviously not said in this way!). Need to wait for results but I don’t think it had the effect of a jet-wash- like they kept saying it would.

Just one extra frustration.

On the ubiquinol I take pharma nord, expensive and it’s impossible to tell if it’s helping.

Jem1979 · 24/06/2021 16:47

@Extrahotcoffee hello, I started taking it in January after it was recommended on this thread. Presumed it couldn't do any harm! I then fell pregnant in February after trying for 9 months though as others say no way of knowing if it helped! Sadly had a miscarriage in April but am continuing to take it. I just take 200mg daily x

Everyone am having a panic that I have done something very stupid and I wanted to see what you all thought.

My cycles were just getting back to normal after stopping bfing my DD and in a bid to increase cervical mucus I followed the advice on cervical mucus.org which says take 3 to 4 1500mg a day of evening primrose oil tablets. I did that for 3 days from day three I think then researched on Mumsnet, had a panic attack as I realised I was taking far too much and epo can also delay ovulation. Stopped taking it immediately.

So I use clearblue ovulation tests that give you estrogen surges and lh surges and so far I have had an estrogen surge on day 10 and lh surge on day 14 or 15. Today is day 11 and no estrogen surge. Have I totally messed up my cycle? What do you think?

Mattieandmummy · 06/07/2021 05:27

Update: estrogen surge this morning so hopefully it's all ok

birdbybird · 06/07/2021 09:38

Hey @Mattieandmummy I’ve also had a peak fertility yesterday so we may be cycle buddies

Jem1979 · 06/07/2021 11:08

@Mattieandmummy glad seems to be ok! I don't really know anything about EPO sorry! AF arrived here yest grrrr, on t

on time at least so cycles seem to be grand now after mc. Onto the next cycle! Good luck this month and you @birdbybird x

Mattieandmummy · 06/07/2021 20:04

@birdbybird yes let's! I am slightly behind you by a few days I think (flashing smiley face means the test is picking up the estrogen surge before the lh surge). But I may not be the best cycle buddy as I never early test - I can't take it if its a negative result, I'd rather let my temperature tell me pre-period then at least I've got a day to get used to the idea before af

Mattieandmummy · 06/07/2021 20:10

@Jem1979 glad your cycle is back 👏

CattleOnBikes · 13/07/2021 16:18

Hi, do you mind if I join too? I'm 42 and trying to conceive #2. I conceived two years ago and now have a 17 month old son but it took around 15 months. My partner had an SA which showed that he has slow swimmers and that added to my age doesn't look very promising. Now it's coming up to a year TTC our second without any luck. No sign of a bfp and af turned up today. I keep going from thinking it will never happen again to really positive thoughts. I recently read that Jo Brand had two daughters when she was 43 and 45. A friend of a friend had her first at 45 and another friend had hers at 43 so there's still a bit of hope. Just wishing you all good luck and fingers crossed we get our bfps soon.

GingerFox2021 · 13/07/2021 20:08

@CattleOnBikes I feel the same, sometimes it looks that it won’t happen again, sometimes I am really positive that it will happen when I won’t expect anymore. Sometimes I’m sad and upset, sometimes i am okay and feeling positive. Mixture of feelings. But that time is not on my side upsets me most.

Jem1979 · 14/07/2021 07:57

@CattleOnBikes hey there! Yep exactly the same emotions here. Up and down, very positive then at times feel worried and sad it's not going to happen.... very much trying to focus on the good and enjoy every day of life with my lovely wee boy, as am so blessed to have him. I know loads of people in their 40's who have had healthy babies so keep reminding myself of that!

How is everyone going? Am 9 or 10dpo at the moment.

Mattieandmummy · 15/07/2021 19:53

Hey @birdbybird, I'm not far behind you at 6dpo. How are you getting on?

birdbybird · 15/07/2021 20:07

@Mattieandmummy I’m ok. 9dpo (or maybe 10 dpo) and no pregnancy symptoms so far. Spent a bit of time investigating the Ava bracelet today but I think I’ll stick to opks and temping. How are you?

Jem1979 · 24/07/2021 12:53

Just checking in, how are you all doing? I'm
CD20, decided not to do OPK's this month just to have a break. Have to admit it has helped me relax a bit about TTC!
