TTC after Mirena removal

Hi everyone,

I'm getting my Mirena coil out on Friday hopefully, although the strings are missing so it might be a difficult procedure and chance I'll have to go to a specialist clinic which isn't even open due to Covid!

I'm due to get married at the end of December but with everything being so uncertain we thought we'd start the process of TTC now.

I'm 33 and have endometriosis, although had laparoscopy two years ago to remove endo tissue do hoping not to encounter any issues.

My GP has said not to start testing for when I'm ovulating as it will just make me more anxious but I'm literally going to have no clue when anything might happen.

Anybody else experienced anything similar?
We're keeping ours plans quiet from friends and family for now so be great to be able to share thoughts and worries with people ☺️

I just had my Mirena removed last week. My first gynecologist said that she could not do it because of missing strings and that I had to have a surgical removal in a clinic. It was a shock to me.. Luckily I found another gynecologist and she gave me some uterus relaxing medicine, told me to take pain killers and had some sort of local anesthetics which made it possible for her to remove it quite painless a day later and very quick (5minutes) I was sooooo happy and still am :):)

Btw. I am from Germany so my experience may differ from yours although I would caution everybody to get a second opinion when it comes to surgery because missing strings seem to be quite normal.
Also I am sorry for any spelling mistakes :D

We will start TTC in August/September this year :) and I am using ovus and I am temping because I am a conroll freak :D As of today I am waiting for the withdrawel bleed to end. I would start TTC this month but my husband has exames in April 21 therefore we are sadly waiting to TTC a few month.

Hope your removal will be as quick and painless as mine turned out to be. looking forward to reading your experience.

I got mine out 15th October and by 16th November I had a positive test. Now 37 weeks! I have endometriosis and only have 1 ovary so pretty impressed haha. I also had missing strings and they just asked my to lie with my fists under my bum so they could see my cervix better. Nurse was lovely and it didn’t hurt x

I'm 36, ttc first time around.

I had my Mirena taken out in the hospital in January after my GP couldn't locate the strings to remove it in October - after waiting 3 months for a hospital appointment, it took about 30 seconds for the surgeon to get it out and it was painless. The surgeon said that on certain days, depending on the position of the cervix, the strings can be easier to locate.

Both GP and surgeon recommended I wait one full cycle to ttc to get my hormone levels back to normal.

I had the mirena for 13 years (3 in total during that time). It only took me about 5 weeks to start a normal period again. The periods were very heavy the first 2 months but now seem to have levelled out - regular exercise really helps with the cramping and bleeding, I've found. Since Feb, I've had a regular, normal cycle (a little short, but that's just me, I think). I've been ovulating regularly too, getting both high and peak readings with clear blue. I use the ovia app for tracking which is free and really helped me understand my cycle.

Had mine out end of October last year currently sat here 34 weeks pregnant!

The Dr has told me to take some painkillers before I go and she will use a clamp and forcep type tweezers so hoping for the best. I'm not concerned about the pain, got to get used to that down there!

Hope you get to track your cycle for a couple of months before you start TTC...fingers crossed it works quickly for you.

@Aw326 Thanks for replying, I'm conscious that if the GP I see on Friday can't get it out then I will need to go to the hospital and they aren't open at the minute.

For the next 6 months I still have the wedding to look forward to so will have positives that month even if I'm not pregnant. Not sure how my hen party will feel about a pregnant bride....if it even goes ahead.

There's so much uncertainty with everything this year.

Just got back from the surgery. The Dr couldn't find the strings or coil at all😭
She's given me a referral letter for a gynaecologist and luckily I have Bupa health care through work so hopefully should get an appointment soon. I might need an operation to get it out though.
I knew this was a possibility but still really disappointed 🥺

@butterfly5291So my other messages didn‘t come through but anyway I just wanted to tell you to try to keep your hope up for the gynaecological appointment. It seems to be quite often that a second opinion is of help when it comes to coil removal and even without any strings a surgery is seldom..(repeating what my gyn said) wish you all the best :)!

Thanks @Nate1 I hope so too. Been in quite a lot of discomfort since yesterday evening. Us women go through a lot....and this is before growing another human!

I'm having mine out on Monday! Then I'm going to track my cycle for a couple months as I plan to use the babydust method to try and concieve a baby girl!
Glad to hear people cycles return to normal pretty quickly, as I don't want to wait too long to ttc!

It's a method of swaying gender.
There's a book on amazon, and also a Facebook group. So many people successfully getting the gender they want! Worth checking out 😊

I hope the removal isn't too painful 😭 I stupidly booked a table at the pub for a meal tonight to celebrate our anniversary last week! Didn't think that through!

I got my merina out on the 7th of June, had my period 11th-14th, ovulated 25th June, and just got a bfp x

Did you track ovulation using OPKs? When did you start? I don't know if I should start tracking now?

@butterfly5291 I used just the cheap OPK, and started testing 6 days after my period just to check what was going on and if everything had gone back to how it should be or whether it would take a while!

@butterfly5291 really easy! The nurse said I was the easiest she'd had in a long time! I'm glad as I was so nervous

I had the mirena fitted, had it removed and my periods didn't come back m. I had to be referred for fertility treatment in order to have my little girl.

I had another one put in after having DD. I had that removed after 5 years, it had to be surgically removed and over a year on I have still not had periods return.

I say this not to worry you but to prepare you that it may not be plain sailing. Good luck!
