Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

Thanks both @Peach1204 @Daffodil21 this page is great to vent your worries. Obviously I tell my husband everything I'm thinking about but there's only so much I can go on before he tells me to just chill! 😂
We did speak about private scans the other day, I think this might be a good idea as 12weeks seems so far away and I suffered a loss at about 5 weeks and didn't know til my dating scan last time.

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2020 12:26

@AlisonLew15 oh gosh sorry, I've lost track a bit and didn't realise you'd had a loss already too. In which case nothing anyone can say will make you relax about it. Unfortunately a loss does take the joy out of it. I was so paranoid when I got pregnant again and I didn't really enjoy it at all. I was just waiting for the bleeding to start again and I wouldn't let myself get excited at all. However, a second loss is extremely rare. I think it's 1/100 women will experience a second loss so I hope that gives you some peace of mind x

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 12:31

@AlisonLew15 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I haven't been in that position as we've only been trying a couple of months. I will still be an anxious wreck throughout if we are lucky enough. The earliest one I've found so far is 7 weeks so thinking then and then waiting for the 12 then doing every 4 weeks after that. It might seem extreme but I'd rather put my own mind at ease. Xxx

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 12:57

@AlisonLew15 i think its normal to worry about these things, but at the same time I'm sure it will be a wonderful exciting moment. I also understand the emotional part, I've burst into tears multiple times in the past couple of weeks!

I know it's easier said than done, but any way you can distract yourself for a while and try to take your mind off things? I've basically reorganised my entire house in an attempt to keep myself busy!

@Daffodil21 I haven't admitted to OH that I took a test this morning but I'm so discouraged and disappointed as we really tried our best this month. Didn't seem as real last month as we barely knew what we were doing. I know I'm not out until AF arrives but trying to be realistic as the test I used was for early detection.

And please don't feel bad about whatever you post here. The fact that you've shared your experiences with miscarriage is very helpful and informative and you've always been positive and encouraging to everyone here.

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 12:59

@AlisonLew15 oh sorry I posted the above before I read your post about your loss. Didn't mean to be insensitive I obviously have no idea what going through something like that is like.

AlisonLew15 · 08/06/2020 13:06

@SaraVB it's absolutely fine.
I'm losing track of everyone's situations on here, including my own! Lol. @Daffodil21
I think I'm just more anxious today as my app is saying today is the day to start testing and my AF is due in a couple of days. Last year I wasn't tracking anything I completely missed my period so I just knew. I'm staying strong and not testing!!!!!
@Peach1204 I don't know if hubby would allow all the private scans, they're about £70 a time here in Wales!

Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement. House is organised tip to toe so I'm going to chill and watch a film!

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 13:33

@AlisonLew15 I've only looked at one place here and they were £90 so it is expensive. I don't feel like the 2 you get are enough to keep me calm. Xxx

Kwmac · 08/06/2020 14:16

Thanks everyone!! It is lovely to come on here and get an idea of what happens, I am clueless and it feels lonely when you can’t talk to anyone you know. I am also trying not to think about it too much until I am further on as I know so many people who have MC and just assume it will happen to me. Need to think more positively!

I feel for everyone that is struggling. Hopefully you will get the result you want soon.

Hiya,
Random question ladies but I was wondering if anyone knows the consensus on drinking tea. I love my tea and would happily drink 2-3 cups a day. Does anyone know if that’s frowned upon when TTC? Am I ok with 1 cup? Lol. 😀 TIA

SVC11 · 08/06/2020 15:33

@EmmyT2020 I love my tea, still having one in the morning and then I've switched to decaf to fool myself... I can't live without it!

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 15:49

Hi @EmilyT2020, supposedly you should cut down on caffeine when TTC. I've switched to decaf to be on the safe side but I've read on multiple websites and other resources that there's a minimum amount which seems to be considered ok by doctors (i think its about 200mg a day which should be much more caffeine than there is in a cup of a tea).

Bam27 · 08/06/2020 16:04

Do you mind if I join? I am 27 and have been trying to conceive first baby for 7 months, after 2 operations for endometriosis, had some REALLY FAINT lines on a couple of tests yesterday and today but don't know if it's just evap lines. Trying not to get my hopes up but it's so hard! Would love to get someone's opinion but I don't know how to upload images?
Hope you are okay and coping with the crazy emotional rollercoaster of ttc!

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 16:10

Hi Bam27, of course you're welcome to join.. not sure if you're using the website or app but there should be an option to attach a file /paperclip on the app just below the text box.

Bam27 · 08/06/2020 16:16

Sara thank you! I will download the app and see if I can upload pics that way

Bam27 · 08/06/2020 16:33

I have tried sharing the pics, it says it's posting and then doesn't seem to appear on the thread

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 16:36

@Bam27 I think I've read somewhere earlier on this thread that you can only post some time after joining mumsnet.. I think it's 48 hours..

Bam27 · 08/06/2020 16:40

Oh okay, thank you.. I hope it doesn't automatically post the ones I just shared then, or when the 48 hours is up or it will come up three times 😂.. Maybe by then I will have the answer for myself. Just hoping AF doesn't arrive!

EmmyT2020 · 08/06/2020 16:55

Thanks @SaraVB and @SVC11 I’ll try the switch to decaf too 😘

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 17:08

@EmmyT2020 I've switched from PG tips just to the Aldi cheap decafs and it still tastes like tea. Xxx

EmmyT2020 · 08/06/2020 17:50

Thanks @Peach1204 😊

AlisonLew15 · 08/06/2020 18:26

On the subject of tea... I have NEVER liked it! In all my 33 years. 2 days ago I did a little sicky burp, had a sip of my husbands tea to get rid of the burning and I loved it! Worst time ever to get a liking for tea when I should be limiting caffeine intake.

Dreaming101 · 09/06/2020 00:07

@Daffodil21sorry for the slow replies lately work was manic so I’ve not checked in!
I came off the pill in March so not long ago at. Reading your story I feel so selfish for being such a stress head already. I think it’s inbuilt in me to stress!

Dreaming101 · 09/06/2020 00:12
