Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

Hey ladies, sorry I’ve been quiet the last few days. Just reading through and catching up!

Still no AF for me and I’m on CD 54. When usually I’m a 28 day cycle kinda gal🤦🏽‍♀️
Still having BFN’s too. But the dr told me to keep testing and if AF doesn’t arrive by mid June she will do blood tests for me.
My sister in law isn’t TTC and her hubby has had the snip now but she’s also running late this month.. thinking the stress of lockdown could be a factor.
@Daffodil21 how are you feeling now? It’s difficult not to get down when the thing you want most in this crazy world isn’t happening just yet. Big hugs xxx

Peach1204 · 07/06/2020 21:46

Following on from my Friday post re possible implantation bleed all weekend I've felt nauseous and had pains come and go mainly in my left side. AF due next Sunday and don't want to test before then because 1) if this is the real deal I'd like to tell DH on Father's Day and couldn't keep it quiet for a week! And 2) I'm concerned it might just all be psychological and in my head. I am thinking of testing on 18th as that should be my last day if AF so I'd have given her plenty of time to make an appearance. I bought CB tests off amazon but thinking maybe a cheaper one from the shops too just in case there has been damaged. Any recommendations? Xxx

Dreaming101 · 07/06/2020 23:59

@Peach1204 Oo good luck sweetie, fingers crossed for your BFP!
I would also try first response. Not the cheapest but they’re supposedly good for early detection xxx

Kwmac · 08/06/2020 00:05

Hi! I used the clearblue ovulation kit. Got pregnant first time so would recommend it! , I just found out on Friday and think I am 4 weeks now. I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly and know we are very lucky. Its just a bit overwhelming as thought it might take a while! Very nervous about getting excited yet. Don’t have a clue what I should be doing from here. Will contact GP this week for advice! Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I can't believe how quick this thread has taken off since I originally posted. I'm glad people are still posting on here - for those who have had AF this month, next month will be your month ✨

I have tried to stay of Mums Net, as I wanted to worry as little as possible and just see what happens this month - I'm due on my AF on Thursday and this morning I got a BFP on a first response I paid £20 for from Amazon (they don't do them here in Dubai!)!!

I can't quite believe it and my husband has said not to get too excited until we know for sure in the next couple of days - I've felt strange, but have just thought I was symptom spotting! I'll do another test in a few days as I don't want to get my hopes up!

I just want to say thank you and good luck to you all xxxx

@Dreaming101 thank you lovely. I understand now what people mean about the two week window wait and I'm now increasing that just because I'm trying to be all sentimental with telling DH! 😂 xxx

@Kwmac thank you for your recommendation and congratulations on your BFP! How long did it take you? Xxx

@BeeR2009 thank you for starting this thread and for your advice. That's definitely a clear line there so congratulations! Xxx

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 08:14

@BeeR2009 congratulations! Really happy for you!

AlisonLew15 · 08/06/2020 08:25

@Kwmac wow congrats. I've used the CB digital this month so here's hoping for some more success stories!

Wow that's amazing @BeeR2009 definitely a clear line! Congratulations! Thanks for starting the thread, it's been a real big help during this cycle and my current TWW!

Can't wait to see more test results come in!

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2020 08:59

@Dreaming101 to be honest, I'm just sick of it all. I'm absolutely not texting early month. I cannot let myself get that crazy and stressed I'm the TWW again. No wonder AF arrived early really. But we are on a new cycle now so on we go. AF just finishing but not due to ovulate for two weeks as my cycles are longer than 'normal'.
Wow, CD56?! You just be terribly fed up. I'm sorry you're in limbo, that's the worst. But glad the docs are listening and will check you out. Keep us posted.

Thanks @Summertime1992 yeah I thought we were about to get IVF as we had a referral to a fertility clinic, but Monday's appointment crushed that. We won't be offered it until at least September next year because it has to be 2 years since of trying or 2 years since a pregnancy. Because I have been (unsuccessfully) pregnant before, apparently that counts and resets the 2 year clock again. As if having MCs hasn't fucked me up enough already, they then delay the only bit of hope we had. Fingers crossed for you. I hope you're managing the TWW ok, it definitely gets harder the closer you get to predicted AF!

Fingers crossed for you @Peach1204 ! And for you too @Poppyismyfavourite

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2020 09:00

Congratulations @BeeR2009 and @Kwmac ! That is amazing news! Thank you for starting this thread @BeeR2009 it has been a massive comfort to me and many others

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 09:06

@Daffodil21 I'm really sorry about the difficult time you've been having...

I caved and tested early today. AF isn't due until Thursday-friday. I thought that it would help me to relax a bit to have an answer one way or the other. I used a clear blue test that was a BFN but it had a blue line at the side of the window. Pretty sure it's an evap line since it's nowhere near the middle but let's just say it was not as effective at calming me down as I had hoped 😂

Dreaming101 · 08/06/2020 09:20

@Peach1204 you’re stronger than I am as I was testing so early last month😂 that’s really thoughtful to wait for fathers day though!

@Daffodil21totally understand how you’re feeling! You’re doing the right thing by avoiding getting stressed if you can. Easier said than done though isn’t it?!
If you feel yourself getting stressed just come on here again and rant away❤️
This cycle is driving me insane!! They’ve said that it’s probably the pill still leaving my system but wow it’s irritating to hear that!

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 10:03

@Daffodil21 thank you. Sorry to hear about IVF. It baffles me that there's a difference between 2 years of trying and then 2 years after a pregnancy. Would this be the same for private? Is that a route you could take? Xxx

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 10:06

@Dreaming101 😂 it's hard, sometimes it's not always good to be thoughtful! 😂 xxx

MintGreenLife · 08/06/2020 10:23

Congrats @BeeR2009, so exciting :)

How is everyone else getting on? I'm 9/10DPO and itching to test! This is my first cycle and I can't work out what would be best for me...test early and face a BFN but still have hope even though there might be nothing there, or hang on until AF. Currently torn between testing tomorrow (10/11DPO) or on Thursday (12/13DPO) or just waiting until the weekend to see if AF arrives... hmmm

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2020 10:28

@Peach1204 I think if we went private we would get it straight away. I'm embarrassed to say that we don't actually have any savings atm though. We just moved and did a big relocation so the time it would take us to save up for one cycle would probably take us almost to September next year anyway. I'm not even sure I'm strong enough to go through IVF tbh. I said to my husband a couple of months ago that I'm not I can do it and would he consider adoption. I change my mind about this constantly (not actually about adoption, but whether I could deal with IVF) . We are now starting to save though - we can't apply for adoption until January at least because we have to have lived in Scotland for a year first, and if we do go down that route then you need to have have healthy enough finances for one of you not to work for a year. Also if you have IVF and it fails (I feel this is likely with our history, as IVF doesn't have a lower MC rate), then you have to wait a year after any fertility treatment before you can apply for adoption. Plus I think that would literally destroy me. Not sure what's the best thing to do, but until at least January we can't do anything anyway, so I guess we just keep trying. I really really wanted to fall pregnant during lockdown because then I could have had the early weeks at home and not stressing at work, but looks like that isn't going to happen! Sorry long post (again).

Thanks @Dreaming101 I really appreciate that. Oh I bet! When did you come off the pill?

@SaraVB do you want to share a photo with us?

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 10:42

@Daffodil21 no need to apologise. Wow! What a mind boggle. This is all things I didn't know about, I'm not surprised you don't know what to do. There's so many rules and I don't understand why they have the wait times around things. I wish things were easier for you. Xxx

SaraVB · 08/06/2020 10:47

@Daffodil21 I just went back to it now and it's completely faded to white so definitely a BFN. Not the news I wanted and I'm quite upset about it but at least it's an answer one way or the other.

Trying to remain positive, at least we have some public holidays this week, so there's a chance to have some wine and relax before all this starts all over again.

Mrskcam · 08/06/2020 10:53

@Kwmac congratulations on your bfp!

@BeeR2009 omg I'm so happy for you!! Thank you for starting this thread and bringing us all together

This thread seems to have a lucky feeling about it, think we are in for some more bfps ladies, baby dust to all!

Bramleyapples13 · 08/06/2020 11:03

Congratulations on your news! I was reading through your post and everyone's comments and was just going to stay as a reader. But having seen that a lot of people are in the same boat with TTC it's nice to have people to speak to about things. Can I ask what does AF stand for? (I'm sorry if it's a daft question).

LOG8 · 08/06/2020 11:04

@BeeR2009 and @Kwmac congratulations!!!! I'm so exited for you both and it's really nice to see some BFPs on the thread. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your pregnancies.

AlisonLew15 · 08/06/2020 11:18

Hi @Bramleyapples13 and welcome to posting! AF stands for Aunty Flow or period.

I think I've become consumed with checking mumsnet. Everytime I read through posts I get an anxious feeling in my stomach, maybe I need a break?
This TWW feels like it's going on forever and I feel like when I test I'm either going to be so disappointed with a negative or filled with a mixture of happiness and fear that a positive may end in miscarriage.
Sorry, feeling all emotional in the house on my own today while DH is at work.

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2020 11:33

@AlisonLew15 I'm sorry, I probably haven't helped with your worries. Whilst yes, miscarriage does happen, and it happens more than I initially realised, most pregnancies do go on to be healthy. It's important to be aware of it, and semi prepare yourself if it does happen, but you can't let that take the joy out of an amazing experience.

@SaraVB you're not out until AF arrives...

Bramleyapples13 · 08/06/2020 11:38

@AlisonLew15 thank you!

We're TTC and have been for a few months. But I'm already classed as a complicated case by the GP because of a cancer scare 10years ago which left me with one ovary. So we're expecting a difficult journey if it happens at all. But fingers crossed!

Peach1204 · 08/06/2020 11:38

@AlisonLew15 I'd be worrying too about MC. I've already said to my DH that if it happens we will have a couple of private scans on top of the NHS ones. Would rather have more and just know everything is ok. I don't know how I'd relax though...xxx
