Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@Daffodil21 that's really useful info. Thank you for posting. Xxx

@Rocky89 Hi lovely thankyou for responding, I've been taking ovulation tests and they look positive to me but I would just like a second opinion, I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I'm sure we had a positive on my partners birthday! I don't seem to have that option unfortunately I only have a smiley face, a 'I' and the @ sign!
Baby dust to you all

Thanks for the stats @Daffodil21 might screen shot that and show to DH, he works better with numbers.
@FridaKFangirl I'll definitely look into the Preseed if we're not successful this month.
Nothing is ever TMI for me, I had to think really hard how to put it tastefully when all I wanted to type was Jizz! 😂

FridaKFangirl · 06/06/2020 13:29

@AlisonLew15 I just laughed out loud at ‘Jizz’! I’m such a child at 38!

Poppyismyfavourite · 06/06/2020 19:55

Thanks @Daffodil21, I love some stats! May have written my own log equation lol!

I read somewhere that it's mostly just the "fluid" that leaks out - the swimmers will go where they need to within a matter of milliseconds.
We've been using conceive plus lube. I normally use "sylk" but I read on here that some lubes kill sperm.

Poppyismyfavourite · 06/06/2020 19:56

I'm due AF today BTW (assuming a 28 day cycle) but nothing yet. I'm planning to take another test tomorrow morning.

Daffodil21 · 06/06/2020 20:19

Sounds promising @Poppyismyfavourite, been wondering!

Glad you all found the stats helpful :) they just depressed me further because I'm been trying for long I'm not even in the main groups 😂

Daffodil21 · 07/06/2020 00:20

Sorry everyone. I didn't mean to be such a dick and so negative. Maybe I don't belong on this thread because it's been so long for me with so much heartache, but this is the thread I have the best connection with.

Sorry. Had lots of wine (AF here) and feeling very, very sorry for myself

Rocky89 · 07/06/2020 07:58

Sooo question, although most of us are within first few months of TTC and therefore you may not know but Google isn't helping me!

So I'm CD13 (regular 26day cycle), my temp spiked yesterday to 36.6C (CD12) from 36.2 (CD11) the day before, and today has remained higher at 36.5C.
This is my second cycle tracking temp and all seems to follow what is said to be "normal" according to DR Google.
Now my query is, bbt is supposed to dip when an egg is released and rise afterwards, which based on bbt alone would suggest egg release CD11 and rise the day after - CD12. So why was my LH surge later in the day on CD12?
I haven't missed it, I've been opk'ing since CD9 twice a day - 10.00 and 16.00, white all through until yesterday where it got darker through the day, I actually did a third yesterday around 7pm where it was at its darkest, still not positive though and then this morning back to pale.
Why did the opk get darker after O day(according to bbt) and why did it nearly get positive?

Sorry for my essay!!

Rocky89 · 07/06/2020 08:02

Thought I'd upload my temp chart for reference, to both help me and to help us learn on this weird educational journey we're all on!

(I was counting the spike on 31/05 as an anomaly - we'd had that really hot weather and I was sweltering through the night)

Poppyismyfavourite · 07/06/2020 08:20

@Daffodil21 don't worry about it, it's an emotional time for everyone Smile. Hope your head isn't too sore this morning haha! I was gasping for a glass of wine last night (not much of a drinker usually but as soon as it's not allowed...)

I've just taken another test and another BFN but still no AF (31 days after last one). Wtf is going on? Just want to know one way or the other...

Peach1204 · 07/06/2020 08:35

@Daffodil21 please don't apologise! I was really appreciative of the facts. I'd rather know then go in blind. Hope you enjoyed your Veeno! Xxx

@Poppyismyfavourite are you usually regular? If so you might want to go have a check up with the dr. Xxx

Poppyismyfavourite · 07/06/2020 08:49

@Peach1204 I don't really know - haven't had regular periods for 10 years! Think it was reasonably regular but not exact, but I never made much effort to track it.
I've heard of pregnacare vitamins making cycles longer, and I'm on them??
current plan is to wait another 2 days then test again if no AF

Peach1204 · 07/06/2020 09:06

@Poppyismyfavourite I have heard that too with those tablets. I'm using seven seas and haven't had any problems so far. Good idea to leave it a couple of days and test again. Xxx

LOG8 · 07/06/2020 10:05

@Rocky89 my only advise is, I wouldn’t get too worried about it right now. I was panicking about my BBT chart most of last week and now my chart is looking fine, I just ovulated later than I was expecting.

I suspect if you keep taking your temperature you might find it rising even further in the coming days and the dip you think is the egg releasing isn’t. I’ve been reading Taking charge of your fertility and it does say not everyone sees the temp dip.

I’m only on my first month tracking everything myself so I could be wrong. I’ve found a new mantra ‘keep calm and carry on tracking’ and keep doing it of course!! 😉

LOG8 · 07/06/2020 10:11

@Daffodil21I’m sorry your feeling so low about it all. You’ve been really wonderful on this thread and really hope you don’t feel out of place. This TTC malarkey really is quite a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone. I hope you enjoyed your wine and the dreaded hangover is being kind to you this morning.

FridaKFangirl · 07/06/2020 14:29

@Daffodil21, sorry you were feeling low, your posts have been so helpful to me on this thread. You are in no way a ‘Dick’! Flowers

Daffodil21 · 07/06/2020 14:47

Sorry for my meltdown. Wine and mumsnet do not mix!

Thank you all for your kind words. I have found this thread very helpful. It's been so nice to have people to talk to about this all (my DH is not a big talker, and none of my friends are TTC). I just feeling totally and utterly fed up with it all. It's literally taking over my life but I didn't mean to bring the positive levels down!

@Poppyismyfavourite any signs of AF yet today? Maybe wine is your craving... that would be cruel! Have you been taking pre conception vitamin tablets? I have heard of them lengthening cycles

SaraVB · 07/06/2020 17:20

Missed a few days so a bit late to say this but @Daffodil21 I do hope you're feeling better.. I've personally really appreciated all your input and entertaining comments in general haha

I'm still hanging in there... I'm approx 10DPO and still haven't tested. I'd like to think it's stronger willpower this time but actually It's more that I'm afraid of the results I think.

@Poppyismyfavourite it may take some time for your cycles to get regular even if it was normal the first month.. some cycles are also just longer... mine is always about 31-32 days. Still keeping my fingers crossed for you x

SVC11 · 07/06/2020 18:25

Ooo this looks like my darkest line yet on my lh test. Don't think it's a positive yet but is it a gradual thing? I also took it much later today than other days so that might have made a difference? I'm excited as this would be my first surge off the pill... Xx

Poppyismyfavourite · 07/06/2020 18:26

@Daffodil21 glad you're OK. I'm finding it quite hard not to talk to anyone about this! - we said we'd tell people when it's certain (12 weeks?). Still no AF, yep I'm on the pregnacare ones so maybe that's it! I still have everything crossed, keep rushing to the loo thinking AF has arrived!

DH asked me yesterday "if it works this time, can I have hot baths again?" priorities man!

goldenrose88 · 07/06/2020 18:35

Hi, can i join here? Its my first time TTC. Im 4 days late. No AF sign. Tested BFN. :( is it possible to get BFP later? Or im considered out already for this month?

Mrskcam · 07/06/2020 19:04

@Daffodil21 I always appreciate your comments on here, they've always given me peace of mind. I hope you're feeling better today x

@goldenrose88 my cousin didn't get a positive test at all in her pregnancy (can't remember why) but also I've had months in the past when I thought I was pregnant as my cycles are always 27-28 days but occasionally have been 32 days and no apparent reason for the extended cycle so I'm not sure but test again in a couple of days if no af.

I'm cd12 my app predicts ovulation in 2 days but I've been cramping around my right ovary the last couple day and had tender boobs so think it might be coming sooner. Was worried as I was dry as a bone down there but just got a teeny bit of ewcm when I went to the loo so hopefully ovulating soon

Summertime1992 · 07/06/2020 19:37

Hi, hope everyone is doing okay, another week until I can test yet but I have been getting symptoms I don't usually and a lot of creamy discharge (which I haven't noticed on previous cycles then again I haven't been looking so hard either so maybe its always there) but hopefully good signs.

@Daffodil21Hope your feeling better today I have really appreciated your insight and I appreciate how hard this all must be, one of my friends has been trying for 2 years and some days she just has a down day, but she is now waiting for IVF so I have all my fingers crossed for her and for you too.

Summertime1992 · 07/06/2020 19:41

@goldenrose88 It still is possible you may have ovulated late and still to early to test, or your period could just be late, mine is usually very regular but last month I was 3 days late never happend before but from what I have heard the unsettledness from covid-19 has unsettled a lot of people periods, maybe wait a few days and re-test if no period :) and welcome.
