Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@Poppyismyfavourite how are you dealing with the TWW? tempted to test yet?

EmmyT2020 · 05/06/2020 15:02

Hi ladies,
Hope you don’t mind me jumping in. This is my second month TTC. Don’t know about everyone else but it seems so much harder than you were led to believe at school! We DTD a few weeks ago and now I’m going crazy analysing every symptom (I’ve had cramps, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue and very light bleeding) but it feels like my body is just trying to trick me?! Gave in and took a test today but it came back BFN - so don’t know if it’s too soon or that is accurate but only time will tell I suppose! I’m not a patient person at all so I’m not sure how I’m going to cope. I think if I had no symptoms it would be much easier to just forget about it. Good luck to everyone in their TTC journey - fingers crossed for us all!

SaraVB · 05/06/2020 15:13

Hi @EmmmyT2020 don't worry I think we're all in the same boat, this process can make you crazy! I feel like once you're looking for certain symptoms, you tend to start feeling them so it can get a little bit confusing! I don't trust myself anymore at all. From what I've read though it would be a little bit soon to have nausea and fatigue.

I'm also extremely impatient so I feel your pain! Hopefully you just tested too early and there's good news for us all down the road!

Poppyismyfavourite · 05/06/2020 15:14

@SaraVB not well tbh... I'm super distracted by everything! I did a test this morning (see above) and it was negative, so I'm wishing I hadn't now. AF due tomorrow so think I'll test again on Sunday if it hasn't showed by then!

SaraVB · 05/06/2020 15:20

@Poppyismyfavourite oh really sorry i missed your message earlier. I know what you mean about the test, that's why I'm trying to put it off as long as possible.. dont' think i'd believe a negative until I see AF show up. Really hope it was just too early for you.

I'm also finding it really hard to concentrate. This has taken my procrastination to a whole new level.

EmmyT2020 · 05/06/2020 15:21

@SaraVB I know, I do wonder if I’m aligning my experiences with what I’m reading online. It doesn’t help when symptoms of pregnancy can be so similar to your period! I will try and wait another week or so till testing - keeping fingers and toes crossed!

AlisonLew15 · 05/06/2020 15:45

I have well and truly fallen into a mumsnet hole today. Looking at all sorts of rubbish. Can't believe I've got almost another week before I test. 😬

Poppyismyfavourite · 05/06/2020 15:53

My problem is also that I'm not used to "normal" periods, as I was on progesterone contraceptives (implant, then injection, then pill) for nearly 10 years, so I've not had regular periods since I was 18 and I've forgotten what it was like. Some women get sore boobs etc every month I think?

Daffodil21 · 05/06/2020 16:04

@AlisonLew15 the perils of a mumsnet rabbit hole! I was the same at the beginning of the week, having to play catch up with work a bit now. AF arriving in a really odd way is a little bit of a relief?! I haven't googled anything pregnancy related for a whole day!!!

SaraVB · 05/06/2020 16:14

@AlisonLew15 Yes I know what you mean. Looking up every little thing on google and spending half my day on mumsnet.

@Poppyismyfavourite I've been off the pill for years and really suffer from painful horrible periods. I also get sore boobs and cramps and all the rest of it before it even starts so I really can't trust any of the most common pregnancy symtoms.

Rocky89 · 05/06/2020 21:16

@TTCmiriclebaby welcome! I'm not sure I understand your question about whether you peaked this month? Can you elaborate then we can see how we can help :) also bottom left of the text box you're writing in to reply is a few circles, one has a paperclip in, you can use that to attach photos xx

@Mrskcam so glad I'm not on my own, I'm cd11 and I've practically dried up (sorry tmi), second month in, ovulated cd13 last cycle, getting confused as to why I'm not seeing anything...been scaring myself googling stuff which you know is always bad...there's a thing called 'hostile cm' and if you don't have the right cm it makes being successful even more difficult 😭😭😭 have you any thoughts on our situation?xx

Summertime1992 · 05/06/2020 21:22

Hi all am sending myself mad also by symptom spotting its going to be a long time until the 15th which is when am due my period.

I am getting white cervical mucus now, and still a little crampy today which isn't usual for me, but I am convinced its just because I am being more observant this month.

I usually start getting achy breast about one week before my period and then cramps about two days prior so will be hard to tell the difference.

Daffodil21 · 05/06/2020 21:51

@Rocky89 I highly recommend fertility gel for this reason!! It's designed to help the sperm travel, but it's really good for if you're a little dry... ive ordered some pre-seed for this month but last month I just used the track own and it was really good for both of us. Will def be using this cycle. Trying SMEP too. Hope you're not going too crazy in you TWW!

FridaKFangirl · 05/06/2020 22:08

I can second Preseed as being really good from a lube point of view at least! I've often used lube (TMI?) and I've switched out my usual 'liquid silk' :) to Preseed. Obviously I've no idea if its helped with TTC yet, but it's great for comfort etc.

FridaKFangirl · 05/06/2020 22:09

Meant to tag @Rocky89 and @Daffodil21 in the above...

Daffodil21 · 05/06/2020 22:13

I meant Tesco own, not track own!

Rocky89 · 05/06/2020 22:51

@FridaKFangirl and @Daffodil21 thankyou! Does that replace the ewcm then if it helps sperm travel? I've never used any sort of lube before!
We're also trying SMEP! Fingers crossed and baby dust to all!xx

Mrskcam · 05/06/2020 23:56

@Rocky89 I've been researching all day and have yet to come up with anything conclusive about ewcm. I'm dryer than the Sahara desert down there at the mo and dr google says that sometimes just happens. Read plenty of forums of women saying they got their bfp with no cm and also you can have cm just not enough to come out. I also read that no cm can make conceiving harder so honestly at this point I am thoroughly confused although if you're using opks or tracking temps you should know when you're ovulating so should be okay. I thought I would just listen to my body this month and it appears to be mocking me lol

Daffodil21 · 06/06/2020 09:08

@Rocky89 we don't normally use lube but having used this I wish we had sooner! Yeah it's supposed to mimic your natural emwc, and put it this way, I have less running down my leg on the way to the loo!! I've only used it one month, and it obviously didn't do the trick as AF here, but it made the frequency of dtd much easier and took the pressure off a bit because I had a bit of 'help'

AlisonLew15 · 06/06/2020 09:32

@Daffodil21 now this is definitely going to be TMI, but I've always struggled with keeping 'the goods' inside of me. Literally comes out straight away. Would this stuff help?

Daffodil21 · 06/06/2020 09:38

@AlisonLew15 definitely!! I was saying to husband the other day that I even wondered where some of it went 😂 who says romance is dead...

Daffodil21 · 06/06/2020 10:35

Hi, me again, sorry! Just been reading a thread where the OP asked how long it took for people to conceive. Most of the answers were either first time or within a few months so thought you might be reassured by that. Someone also posted these figures (I didn't write this, just copied and pasted from the other thread):

'On any given cycle if you have sex within the fertile window you have around a 20% chance of conception. So if you take 100 hypothetical couples who decide to try for a year and assuming they give it all their best shot.

20 couples (1 in 5) will get pregnant the first month.
In month two there are only 80 left so if 20% get pregnant that's a further 16.
Therefore, a total of 36/100 (more than 1 in 3) are pregnant by month two.
By month three, a further 12 get pregnant, for a total of 48/100 couples. Nearly half of couples will be pregnant by the third cycle, but still slightly more won't be than will.
By month 4, 58/100 - it's now more likely to have happened than not, but there is still quite a big group who haven't.
By month 5, 66/100 - two thirds will be pregnant by now.
By month 6, 73/100 - nearly two thirds.
Month 8 - 78/100
Month 9 - 82/100

It doesn't go up very fast after that, and you start to approach the point at which it levels out. The overall chances of conception resulting from one year unprotected shagging are about 85%. Bear in mind, this includes couples with infertility'

Anyway, I'm going to go and do something useful and get off mumsnet 😂

This is the thread:
To ask how long it took you to conceive? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3928433-To-ask-how-long-it-took-you-to-conceive

FridaKFangirl · 06/06/2020 10:41

@AlisonLew15 @Rocky89,I agree with @Daffodil21 - Preseed has definitely led to less 'down the leg leakage' (eeeoogh) than I've found with my usual lube brand (which was good quality so goes to show the difference)

All the TMI! Blush

FridaKFangirl · 06/06/2020 10:43

Thanks @Daffodil21 for sharing that data crunching! a really helpful perspective

EmmyT2020 · 06/06/2020 10:48

Thanks @Daffodil21 for sharing that :)
