Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

Thanks @SaraVB I'll try to stay strong! From all the "do you see a line" posts I'm wondering if even the faintest line "counts"?? I kind of assumed it had to be a clear line but I keep seeing pictures of unbelievably faint lines, then people replying saying yes that's it and congrats!

@KeepSmiling89 one of my old uni house mates just announced her second pregnancy, and a friend of DH has as well 🙁 it's hard but I'm trying to remember that there aren't a finite number of babies - just because they get one doesn't mean I won't!

SaraVB · 02/06/2020 12:20

@Poppyismyfavourite I'm definitely not an expert.. only been through this last month but from what I've seen seems on other threads it seems to be the case

At the moment everyone around me is pregnant too.. doesn't help with my impatience as ideally I'd like my child to be around the same age as cousins and my friends' children. Still you're right just trying to bear in mind that worrying about isn't going to help and it will happen in its own time.

Daffodil21 · 02/06/2020 12:21

@Poppyismyfavourite I had the faintest of lines the first time around. DH couldn't even see it, but I was. The next time I get another really faint line, even fainter than the first) and didn't even bother showing DH, but a couple of days later he could just about see it too (then we confirmed with CB digital)

There are certain brands that are known for giving false positives (I think Superdrug might be one of them). You also have to be aware of evaporation lines. I think if it's a grey line then it's likely to be an evap line, but if it has colour then it is likely a faint positive. That's the thing with testing early, there's lots of doubt involved.

Do you think you'll test early? I sort of wish I hadn't today, but that's not going to stop me doing again in a couple of days if no AF. I haven't had any blood again yet today which is fucking with my brain a little!!

SVC11 · 02/06/2020 12:54

Ooo good luck @Daffodil21 I'm impatient even just waiting for my first lh surge after coming off the pill... I feel as though I have such a long way to go yet! Doesn't help as dh goes away for work, so typical he will leave for a month and il ovulate when he's not here!

Amethyst2502 · 02/06/2020 13:57

@Dreaming101 Yep I bought some cheapy ovulation tests from Amazon so going to start using them this month just to try to figure out my cycle!

@svc11 I'm excited but same as you I'm worried about getting obsessed with testing etc! I'm very impatient as well but have to just keep telling myself that it will take as long as it takes!

Dreaming101 · 02/06/2020 14:45

So I may be crazy but I’ve got a phone appointment with the dr on Thursday.. going to ask for the blood test we discussed before I started TTC. Having had my cycle seem to return to normal and now miss it this month plus my friend saying about not getting a BFP until 7 weeks... I want peace of mind. I can’t help worry something is wrong so early on so hoping it will help me relax.
I’m an anxious person at the best of times!

Daffodil21 · 02/06/2020 15:04

My previous post was poorly written and not very clear. My faint positives were the end of last year, not this month (unfortunately!) after I posted I had a scroll back through my photos to look at them and I had to squint so much to see them!

@Dreaming101 that's not crazy at all. A simple blood test can tell you a lot. If there's a problem it's better to know now, and if nothing is flagged hopefully that will help you relax a bit.

Thanks @SVC11. Wow that must be so stressful to try and time when DH is away so much! I hope he's home when it counts!

Peach1204 · 02/06/2020 15:04

@Dreaming101 fingers crossed you get an answer soon. Xxx

SaraVB · 02/06/2020 15:12

@Dreaming101 No harm in trying to get a little bit of peace of mind when you can during all this uncertainty! Good luck with your doctor's appointment .. it may just all be that your body needs some time to adjust

Dreaming101 · 02/06/2020 16:04

Think MN is the only place where I don’t feel like I’m going crazy!
I am so impatient.

Thank you ladies xxx

SaraVB · 02/06/2020 16:40

@Dreaming101 I know what you mean I'm exactly the same and a bit of a control freak. Hate the fact that I can't just schedule this or plan ahead!

Dreaming101 · 02/06/2020 16:48

@sarahVB I’m terrible for planning and overthinking!
Be much happier if I could have a set timeline and checklist 🙊😂

FridaKFangirl · 02/06/2020 18:57

Hi all,

Now CD8 of our first cycle TTC.

@Amethyst2502, looks like we're in similar places (also if I'm guessing correctly, v similar birthdays although I'm 12 years older!), I finished my pill pack on May 22nd, had my withdrawal bleed CD1-4 so now just seeing what happens.

we 're not planning any proper tracking this month or until I have my first natural AF. Hoping to DTD a few times between CD8-CD15 or so if we can manage it!! and just see what happens while my cycle regulates. I fully anticipate my cycle taking a while after 20+ years of pill use.

Wishing baby dust for all!

Summertime1992 · 02/06/2020 19:36

Hope everyone is fairing okay.

I know it sucks when you see loads of babies. I have a friend who accidentally got pregnant and not even bothered about her pregnancy or excited I don't know why but its really bugging me at the moment.

Im officially in the 2WW with everyone now ( the horror) hope everyone is coping okay, and best of luck that we all get our positives :).

I'm already symptom spotting and it is impossible to be symptomatic yet, I have been nauseous and off my food the last couple of days but I think its the heat at the moment.

@FridaKFangirl @KeepSmiling89 welcome and best of luck with your journey's, fingers crossed for you both :).

FridaKFangirl · 02/06/2020 20:06

Thanks @Summertime1992

Daffodil21 · 02/06/2020 20:13

Hi everyone (again. Sorry for my chronic posting!!!)

I've been very pro CB digitals on this thread, but I just wanted to mention that I've been looking at some reviews online and a lot of people are saying that they are often faulty and have given false positives. They particularly seem faulty if ordered online because of possible damage in transit. (Lots or reviews on amazon). Just wanted to warn as a false positive would be awful!!

FridaKFangirl · 02/06/2020 20:16

Damn, I just ordered some @Daffodil21... I guess if I see a BFP I’ll double/triple check

LennyAndToots · 02/06/2020 20:29

Thanks for the heads up @Daffodil21 .

Oh I know @Summertime1992 I had a friend like that. I never thought about it at the time as I wasn't TTC but you could tell it was a surprise as she wasn't v excited at all about the baby whilst pregnant. Now the baby here and is the most beautiful thing in the world, she is besotted! I think I would have felt a pang of jealousy though if I'd have been TTC a year ago when she was pregnant.

Summertime1992 · 02/06/2020 20:43

@LennyAndToots she's not long had the baby, she still is blasé about it, but oh well thats how some people are, to be honest I wish I was more like that I leave nothing to chance and map out and work out finances for everything. I have been saying for years now I need to go a little wild for once but its just not me I always worry about all eventualities.

@Daffodil21 I already have the triple check pack, but I also have x2 first response as well so will double check if I am lucky to get a positive but I will use my cheapies first, I may have brought a few more than needed already.

Daffodil21 · 02/06/2020 20:55

@Summertime1992 if you're anything like me you'll go through those fairly quickly 😂

Peach1204 · 02/06/2020 21:19

@Daffodil21 ahhhh man! Guess what arrived in the post literally 3 hours ago! Xxx

Poppyismyfavourite · 02/06/2020 21:26

I just remembered I had another pregnancy test somewhere - dug it out and it's a Lloyd's pharmacy own brand (blue dye) that expired in 2014... That'll work right??

SaraVB · 03/06/2020 09:11

@Poppyismyfavourite it may still work but not sure how reliable the results would be if it's expired...

Mrskcam · 03/06/2020 09:49

Hi all sorry I've been quiet, work was crazy the last couple of days but I've got 6 days off now!! Gonna go to the shop and then today I'm going to have a pamper day and try and cook a romantic meal for me and my partner as we haven't spent that much time together recently I don't want him feeling used and abused plus tomorrow we will be entering my fertile week so will be nice to get all relaxed and in the mood.

I saw some of you tested but no bfps yet, just remember that doesn't necessarily mean you're out! Can't wait to see some more tests over the next couple days and I have a really good feeling this thread is gonna be a lucky one, fingers crossed ladies and have a brilliant day all xx

MintGreenLife · 03/06/2020 09:55

Hey everyone ☺️ Hope you're all having a good week so far.

Does anyone here track BBT? My chart is so confusing - only started tracking my temp about 9 days ago. I got an LH surge on Friday and app pinpointed Saturday to be ovulation day, but my temperatures are dropping! My chart almost looks like it's backwards with higher temps before OV and lower after. Any ideas?

Do you think it's possibly I haven't ovulated afterall and to keep testing? This is my second cycle off the pill and it seems far from straightforward 😔
