Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@Daffodil21 thank you! I'll have a look!

This will be our second month of TTC. I came off the pill at the end of March. Xxx

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 09:01

@LennyAndToots aw so glad your baby kitty is ok! Lots of cat mums 😻 I have a cat too, he's a ragdoll and indoor but since we've moved to a house with a garden we let him outside when it's nice, so far he's only ventured into the neighbours garden (which he now does all the time - to look at her two ragdoll cats through the window 😂) and he comes back usually with the shake of dreamies!

Oh the dreaded TWW. I wasn't even aware this was a thing until last month! Hope it goes fast for you girls in it and brings happy news ❤️

I'm still early on in my cycle but this month it's my intention to DTD every second day to have less stress on the FW (when I can't even be sure that is as I am doing no ovulation testing!) to try and hit the day either way! So far so good as my OH is now fully aware of the plan 😂 I've explained more the science behind it and he is onboard, I thought I might scare him!

Anyone been watching Life and Birth on BBC? I love baby programmes, broody much 👶🏼😂

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 09:25

@HJen22 that's the only programme I have watched in relation to births as it leaves out a lot of the gorey bits and makes it look easier than One Born Every Minute! 😂 I'm such a wimp! Xxx

AlisonLew15 · 29/05/2020 09:26

@HJen22 I’ve binge watched the whole series on iPlayer! What an emotional rollercoaster. Birth scenes a bit frightening but fascinating at the same time!

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 09:29

@AlisonLew15 @Peach1204 it's so good isn't it! I'm always sitting with my hands over my face like oh my god 🙈 but it's so interesting to watch, every story is different x

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 10:09

@HJen22 they did do such a good job of covering all sorts of stories. It makes you realise how amazing the support and care is. Xxx

Poppyismyfavourite · 29/05/2020 10:14

@Daffodil21 if you Google "protectapet" cat fence it's basically a DIY version of that. We've had it just over a year with no escapes (except when DH let one of them out the front door).

I was thinking of starting on some documentaries actually - I've realised that DH has no idea in most of the biology and I could use a refresher...

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 10:21

@Peach1204 yeah they do, the hospital staff always just seem so amazing. The thought of labour scares me, I don't have a very high pain threshold 🙈

@Poppyismyfavourite it's really good; I watched another one a while ago that was BBC that I liked too, followed families after the babies were born too, The Baby Has Landed it was called x

kirsty0028 · 29/05/2020 10:21

Hi all can I join 😊 long post but here's some context 😊 I am 8dpo and it's my first month ttc in baby number one and I've become freakishly obsessed 😂 I started getting symptoms yesterday as the day progressed and am not sure what to think. I wanted to post them here rather than have my hubby realise he married a psycho path Cos we agreed we'd only very casually begin to try and not go in all guns blazing 😂

Ovulated 8 days go as got my peak on a cheap opk from amazon 9 days ago and the ap said the next day is when I ovulated. Did BD the day before and the day of!

All day yesterday I had a really hard to ignore Metallic taste in mouth.

Twinges but possibly from all the farts which isnt really like me 😂.

As the day progressed after about 3 o clock it was like someone flicked a switch on boob pain (I've only had this one random cycle ever about a year ago) all around the outside and into my armpits and they were big and swollen looking. I also started mild cramping and had some prickly sensations at one point for about 3 or 4 seconds.

I checked my cervix last night and it's super high and hard. No idea if that's good or bad.

Woke up this morning got a bfn but very early days yet at 8dpo and no breast pain or cramping at the minute! Nothing to report as of yet anyway !

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 11:10

Hi @kirsty0028 and welcome to the group!

Don't worry, I think most of us have felt the same at some point! I certainly have! I felt like I had lots of symptoms last month, turned out to be my period - but that was also a good thing as I'd not long come off the pill and only had a withdrawal bleed, so this is technically my first cycle TTC too!

Wishing you lots of luck! It may just be too early, I'm not sure as I've not taken any tests and will probably just be waiting for AF each month. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 11:11

@kirsty0028 welcome. You are amongst fellow obsessives here!! All sounds very promising so fingers crossed! I have found that I think I have symptoms because I'm looking out for them, but let's hope AF doesn't arrive for you - keep us posted. I'm pretty much the same place as you in my cycle (7dpo I think)

@Poppyismyfavourite thanks! I'll take a look!

kirsty0028 · 29/05/2020 11:31

@Daffodil21 @HJen22

Thanks guys ya that's exactly what I think. One part of me is like am I creating these things by thinking about them and then the other part of me is like how can you create these very real physical symptoms. They were all hard to ignore so definitely real but ugh 😩 so annoying can we just fast forward to next week!

Fingers crossed for all of us!

kirsty0028 · 29/05/2020 11:33

Also can anyone shed any light on cervix position. I'm 8dpo and can barely reach it, supper wet inside (sorry tmi) and walls feel very tight and ridgey, also tmi I'm sorry 😂 I've no idea if any of this things have anything to do with anything.

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 12:19

@HJen22 with you on the childbirth thing! Whenever I've said it to anyone who has had children they are like you're fine in the moment, it's worth it, why would I have done it more than once if it was that bad?! Still doesn't put my mind at ease! Xxx

LennyAndToots · 29/05/2020 12:51

@Peach1204 and @@HJen22 I had not heard of Life and Birth but just looked at the trailers. It's based in Birmingham (as am I). I sooo need to watch it now!

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 13:11

@LennyAndToots Birmingham is about 30 miles from me! Birmingham Women's/Children's hospital are incredible. I know someone who had a child there and 2 weeks later baby had successful open heart surgery to fix a problem with the valves. It's incredible and reassuring to know there are amazing people this close who will help if needed. Xxx

LennyAndToots · 29/05/2020 13:33

@Peach1204 wow thats amazing!

I know someone from Coventry (originally from there myself) and her niece - also based in Coventry - was born with some complications and referred over to Birmingham's children's hospital so it's got an amazing excellent reputation and full of experts.

I noticed on one of the trailers for Life and Birth that a woman was having a home birth! I am not brave enough for that! (It was her second child which may have helped). I expect I will be a nervous wreck when I am on the verge of being due!

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 13:36

@LennyAndToots they are just amazing! Home birth has never crossed my mind! I don't think I could risk it without constantly worrying.

My DH said he thinks my mum should be with me I'm when giving birth if we are lucky enough to have a baby. I'm not too sure though. Feel like maybe it should just be us or both mums there so he has some support too? I know my MIL was with his sister for her first so I don't think she would be upset if she wasn't asked but watching that programme has thought maybe they both should be... plenty of time to sort that out though! Xxx

Bertyb7 · 29/05/2020 13:41

My DH and I are trying for a baby for the first time too. We DTH unprotected for the first time yesterday but at the moment I don't have much knowledge of my cycles (I have recently had my implant removed) so think it might take a while, I am 30. I have done a few OPK tests and not yet had the surge. Natural Cycles estimates that I will ovulate on 3 June but I feel although it might be sooner than that- sore boobs and twinges. It is so exciting but feeling pretty overwhelmed by the amount of info out there. Tempted not to track for the first few months and just DTD regularly.

LennyAndToots · 29/05/2020 13:42

@Peach1204 I've never thought of having MIL there. I have thought of my mum and OH being there though.

I think your own mother has seen you naked before, my MIL hasn't! So I don't really want her in the room (I do know all dignity goes out of the window) but I don't think she would be offended either.

How would you tell your parents and in laws about being PG? That's a bit of a dilemma as you have to get them together really.

Poppyismyfavourite · 29/05/2020 14:01

@Peach1204 blimey I can't imagine having either my mum or mil there! Just DH and I I think! My mum is actually a nurse so she'd be fine with it but I'm more private lol!
DH fully intended to be pacing the corridor outside until I quickly squashed that idea!

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 14:01

@Bertyb7 welcome to the group. If you do want to track I've been using Flo and find that's pretty good. Xxx

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 14:06

@Poppyismyfavourite @LennyAndToots

It's so hard isn't it?! I'm thinking MIL for support for DH. Whilst she hasn't seen me in the nude I wish I could say the same for the other way round! 🙈 my original thought was just us and no one comes to visit at the hospital so it's just our time to get our heads around everything. Maybe MIL can be in the waiting room.

Telling everyone together is going to be so hard. My MIL told my DH 4 siblings we were engaged when we wanted to surprise them and tell them. We would either have to do it on a special occasion when all the family is there (or at least one side of the family first then go straight to the other one) or go around everyone's houses in one day so they can't be told by other people!

Xxx

SaraVB · 29/05/2020 14:22

@Peach1204 for me its my mum that likes a bit of a gossip and would likely tell everyone! I really wanted to tell her first as she's been hoping for this for a while but at the same time if I tell her early then I know it's unlikely she'll be able to keep it to herself for long!

I've been trying to track my CM this month as I was supposed to be ovulating yesterday. I really am not able to tell much difference between one day and another. It's only our second month trying but it's making me a bit nervous...

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 14:24

@SaraVB hahaha my mum is similar but I feel she is less likely too. It would have to be a case of everyone finds out the same day just so we can tell them ourselves.

It's our second month of trying too. I haven't been tracking CM as I don't have a clue what I'm looking for! Xxx
