Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

I'm trying to track CM as well this month but don't really know what I'm doing 😂 have read up but still haven't really got a clue!

Summertime1992 · 29/05/2020 16:16

Gosh lots to catch up on, welcome to everyone new and good luck.

I'm now in my fertile period but I think ovulation is likely another couple of days off based on my CM.

Started off creamy now a water consistency just waiting for the egg white which was really abundant last month so fingers crossed I'll be able to spot it again. We are DTD everyother day anyway so should not matter.

As for who I would have with me it would be my partner and my mum as she has already invited herself before we even started TTC.

When it comes to telling family when it happens and I am 12 weeks we will have to do a round trip and tell them all at the same time as my mum is a terrible gossip she cant even help herself.

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 16:35

@Summertime1992 yeah same, I figured if we DTD every other day this month FW shouldn't matter too much, and cos I have no way of being sure of exact ovulation just seemed to be the best way to go about it. Feel like this is the longest week after AF!

AlisonLew15 · 29/05/2020 16:44

Back last November we were waiting to tell anyone we were pregnant until we had been for our 12 week scan. Unfortunately we had bad news and it hadn’t developed. In the end we had to tell everyone sad news instead of happy. I’m hoping that if we fall pregnant again that I might be offered an early scan? Got a feeling I’ll probably tell family and friends from quite early on this time for more support x

SaraVB · 29/05/2020 17:01

@AlisonLew15 that sounds like a good idea. of course hoping for the best but it's always good to have support either way. I don't know what the healthcare system is like there but here I'm pretty sure early scans are not an option on the public system. Apparently they say that it can be difficult to see anything any earlier so they may not be able to give much information.

@HJen22 we've also been DTD every other day.. still in the middle of FW and getting really tired if I'm honest!
I've read quite a few articles online re CM before trying to track and its described as if its completely different from one day to another. Always seems pretty much the same to me!

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 17:03

@AlisonLew15 I don't think you'll be offered an early scan because of a previous MC. I had 2MCs, I asked for an early scan when I got pregnant again, which they did give to me, but doc said it was to date the pregnancy because I hadn't had a period in between. I ended up bleeding again so I needed the appointment anyway, and I happened to mention about the scan having already been booked for dating. Her response was 'no this an EPU, they wouldn't have given you a scan just to date' (in a really snotty way!!)

I did the opposite when it came to telling people - I actually told my mum, in-laws, DH bro and sis, a few close friends and even my boss (he knew we were trying and struggling, because I reduced my hours to part time as I felt too stressed - lo and behold, 6 weeks after going part time I was pregnant). I was glad I did too as when it all went wrong I needed people. When I got pregnant again straight away I told the same people (except BIL/SIL) and again, I was glad I did. If it ever happens again I don't think I'll hold off until 12 weeks either

Sorry all for bringing a little negatively to the bag! But when it comes to telling people, tell who you're comfortable with, when you want. The 12 week thing is BS, because if anything does go wrong you will need that support

Mrskcam · 29/05/2020 17:31

This time round we aren't going to tell anyone until we physically can't hide it anymore. Last time when we lost the baby it was really hard as my mum and dad were actually abroad and I was supposed to have a scan around the time I lost the baby anyway. My mum text me from holiday asking how the scan went and I didn't want to tell her I was in hospital and had lost the baby when she was so far away, I wanted her to enjoy her holiday. When I turned up the day she got home she took one look at me and knew straight away. It was nice to have the support but at the time I was extra stressed as didn't want to worry anyone else so we are going to keep it to ourselves this time

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 17:51

@Mrskcam that's bloody tough. it's so hard to know what's best isn't it, and once you've said something there's no going back! I think I might actually tell a couple of close friends first then tell family later (if we're lucky). My mum has mentioned how she'll be 'up in a drop of a hat' if I got pregnant again, and I know she'd be constantly over fussing and worrying which will just stress me (and her) out more. We've since moved 600 miles away (not to get away from family or anything like that!) so it would be easier not to tell her, but I would definitely need some support I ever get pregnant again. What a roller coaster this all is. I hope we all get to have a healthy pregnancy soon Thanks I hope you'll tell us though!!!!

Mrskcam · 29/05/2020 17:54

@Daffodil21 of course I'll tell you guys! I will tell my manager in work for health and safety reasons and also my manager is like the mum of the ward so I think she'll be really supportive but I think other than that I'm going to keep it hidden for as long as possible hehe

Mrskcam · 29/05/2020 17:57

@Daffodil21 of course I'll tell you guys! I will tell my manager in work for health and safety reasons and also my manager is like the mum of the ward so I think she'll be really supportive but I think other than that I'm going to keep it hidden for as long as possible hehe

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 17:59

@SaraVB yeah I can imagine I'll be the same! I'm saying this as we are only 5 days in and DTD Tuesday and Thursday 😂 so give me another week/10 days and I'll be saying that too 🙈

The CM is theory seems like a good way to know what's going on down there, but in practice I just don't really know what I'm doing, and still early on in my cycle. Maybe I'll notice some changes come Monday when it's meant to be FW. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Totally personal preference in regards to telling people isnt it! I think we'd wait til 12 week scan, and we need to be careful to include my OHs child first and foremost. I think whatever you feel most comfortable with ❤️ I'm just a huge worrier!

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 18:17

Tbh you'll all probably know before anyone else does just because I won't believe it! 😂 xxx

Summertime1992 · 29/05/2020 21:48

@HJen22 I use to think the same about CM but now I have been keeping an eye on it for a couple of cycles its more clear. I have just got mine come up now for this month a couple of days before ovulation due.

What I find is when you wip after a wee when you slid it over that area is is really slippy (TMI) and makes the paper slid over the area really quickly and on the paper it looks like a snail has been on it if that helps :).

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 21:52

@Summertime1992 thank you for the tips and advice, I shall persevere and hopefully notice some changes over the next few days, FW according to my app should start on Monday! I'm maybe looking too early on in my cycle! X

Summertime1992 · 29/05/2020 22:00

@HJen22 the only obvious CM is the egg whites to me and that wont show up until usually the middle of your fertile window a couple of days before ovulation so i wouldnt worry, just after a period there isnt alot of any CM :).

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 22:07

@Summertime1992 yeah I had a feeling I was looking for something that wasn't even meant to be there. Last week threw me cos I had some one day so have checked the last few days and nothing! Who knew all of this was involved when TTC. No one tells you anything about this when they tell you they are having a baby 😂

Mrskcam · 29/05/2020 23:25

@HJen22 I have just started watching life and birth since you mentioned it earlier and it's too hot here to sleep so might aswell ... someone tell me I'm not the only one that tears up whenever you see a mum meet their baby for the first time, I just know I'm gonna be a crying mess when I have my baby 😅

HJen22 · 29/05/2020 23:37

@Mrskcam it's so hot here too!! Aw I am the same, I always tear up too! It's just so emotional! And amazing! ❤️

LennyAndToots · 30/05/2020 10:17

I don't know why I did it. But I did. I tested on the very first day I could according to the clear blue tests but did it second wee of the day as I forgot this morning when I woke up. BFN.

You live and you learn. I've taken it way too early and now just feel really disheartened.

Peach1204 · 30/05/2020 10:33

@LennyAndToots maybe it was too early so don't give up hope! Xxx

LennyAndToots · 30/05/2020 10:45

@Peach1204 I think I just need to be a bit more relaxed. It was a bit silly for me to do it but the temptation was too much.

I think the stress of testing and DTD every other day (and feeling like you've failed it you don't) probably doesn't help with the stress that you are meant to keep to a minimum when falling PG!

Mrskcam · 30/05/2020 11:03

I'm so excited for you all to start testing!! I can't test for ages as my next period is 24th June lol

Peach1204 · 30/05/2020 11:07

@LennyAndToots completely understand that. Today is my ovulation day and we've been dtd every other day and I just want to know what's going on or not going on already! Xxx

Daffodil21 · 30/05/2020 11:18

@LennyAndToots I was tempted to test this morning too, and I'm only 8dpo 😂😂 I think you can definitely disregard that one though as only the first day you could have tested, and any test before AF due should be done with FMU, esp if you're testing extra early. Order some cheapies off amazon so when you get that temptation you're not wasting expensive tests. You're not out until AF arrives x

LennyAndToots · 30/05/2020 11:23

@Daffodil21 yeah I should just get cheapies. I just thought clear blue would be more reliable. Can you use cheapies before AF is due? Who cares actually - I just need to not test before AF is due!

This TWW is awful. I was sat having a non alcoholic beer last night - on a Friday night!! I've cut down to one morning coffee. I feel like I'm having no life! I've also stopped exercising and I feel the bloat (probably my one symptom!!) is because of that haha!
