Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@MrsLLister hi and welcome 👋🏻

I don't have any experience with ovulation sticks just yet, I'm using the app P.C and just going by that as it was only one day out with when my period came. I am going to try and track CM this month too, I've been reading up about it.

I am the same, I stopped taking the pill at the end of March. I am hoping that this month now that I've had a proper period too, by trying to DTD every other day it doesn't overly matter when I ovulate I'd hopefully hit the day! I'm trying hard not to overthink it, but once something is in your head it's hard not to 😂 just want to be pregnant NOW haha!

Poppyismyfavourite · 28/05/2020 10:25

@SK2970 yeah I showed my DH my calendar! We're both Sciencey types so he found the graphs interesting!

Poppyismyfavourite · 28/05/2020 10:26

@MrsLLister which type of pill is it? I came off progesterone-only pill a few weeks before ttc, and only worked out what my cycle was doing after I'd had a period!

MrsLLister · 28/05/2020 10:48

@Poppyismyfavourite. It was cerazette. I’ve had 2 bleeds now and still unsure

MrsLLister · 28/05/2020 10:51

@HJen22

Hi!! Thank you. Yes I’m the same now just desperate to get pregnant. I know this sounds grim but I have to ask.. so egg white mucus, can it be quite thick like putty? I experience this every cycle it’s clear but very thick almost comes out in a clump? Anyone else have this and is this a sign of ovulation? Thanks

HJen22 · 28/05/2020 11:27

@MrsLLister all new to me too but from what I've read if it's wet, stretchy and resembles raw egg white then it's very fertile and ovulation is right around the corner. How many days into your cycle are you?

SaraVB · 28/05/2020 11:59

Hi @MrsLLister welcome to the thread. My doctor mentioned that it might take a while after stopping the pill to start ovulating.. but not sure whether that applies to particular types or on the length of time that you've been taking it. Sorry no idea about opks as I've never used them.. maybe someone else can help. I must say though I've given up on other methods of identifying ovulation (Cm, temperature, position of cervix) - found them quite impossible to identify

@Poppyismyfavourite yesterday he was really tired and not in the mood.. and I eventually told him to just get the job done as I should be ovulating sometime in these days. Seemed to do the trick!

AlisonLew15 · 28/05/2020 12:48

@MrsLLister hiya! I’m new to the OPK game. I bought the cheapy dip strip ones on eBay and I didn’t like them at all. I couldn’t judge how dark the line was getting and I’d convinced myself I wasn’t ovulating at all. So then I forked out for the clearblue advanced digital and I really do think it’s worth it. Best of luck!

Well we DTD last night on predicted ovulation peak day. I suppose I’ll soon be in the waiting game. My first anniversary on Monday, no bubbly for me!

SaraVB · 28/05/2020 13:07

@AlisonLew15 Happy Anniversary! My predicted peak ovulation day is today. We DTD yesterday and will hint that we should also do it today or at least tomorrow. Hopefully OH will go for it!

Not looking forward to the waiting game but happy to have someone on the same timeline as me!

AlisonLew15 · 28/05/2020 13:59

Ooh that’s exciting we are synced up! Let’s watch this space @SaraVB

Mrskcam · 28/05/2020 16:49

Can't remember who else was on seven seas tablets but I've noticed that my period this month has been so different so far. The blood is much brighter and I only have a 4 day period anyway but i think this is going to be my "nicest" period by far... this is gonna sound strange but it feels like a healthy period ?😂

AlisonLew15 · 28/05/2020 17:28

@Mrskcam I’m taking them. I had a one day period at the beginning of this month, and it came 5 days earlier than my last two months. Weird what a little tablet can do to you!

Aokbaby · 28/05/2020 17:44

Anyone on pregnacare for conception nhis and hers? This is my second month on them and feel like my body is adjusting really well, having cm, last af seemed much more normal, how is everyone else finding it? x

Mrskcam · 28/05/2020 17:51

@Aokbaby I went for the seven seas ones instead because reviews all said the pregnacare tablets are really big but I think most pre conception vitamins are pretty similar. I'm adjusting well to the ones I'm taking, I feel like I must've been a bit deficient in some things maybe

Aokbaby · 28/05/2020 18:14

@Mrskcam yea I read lots of reviews before starting them, lots of both good and bad. Decided to give them a go and so far so good, just need to actually conceive now lol!!

Mrskcam · 28/05/2020 18:26

@Aokbaby I think there's a hint of placebo affect as well isn't there, with the peace of mind that you are preparing yourself the best you can you automatically look for feeling better

Aokbaby · 28/05/2020 19:13

@Mrskcam oh yes definitely! My anxiety has been through the roof recently, so hard not to stress thinking something is wrong, so at least I can relax a bit knowing I'm prepping my body as much as I can

LennyAndToots · 29/05/2020 08:09

Hi all, I was quite active on this thread a few days ago. But as you can see from my username it's Lenny and Toots - my two cats that have literally just turned one. One of them went missing for 2 and a half days, sooo unlike him as he is always back and forth, so we were very worried. He's been found safe and sound now and I cried some happy tears!

How is everyone feeling? I'm 9 dpo (according to app only) but have no symptoms whatsoever. It's my first month TTC and so I'm not sure whether this is my month. Anyone displaying any symptoms?

Poppyismyfavourite · 29/05/2020 08:17

@Aokbaby yes we're on them (although I've now bought the separate ones as they were cheaper than his +hers)
I feel exactly the same tbh...
@LennyAndToots aw I'm so glad he turned up! That's a horrible feeling and exactly why we now have a cat-proof fence confining our two (girls) to the garden! Once spent 3 hours looking for one of ours, and then a neighbour came round with her the next day! She'd been happily playing with their kids and eating their food!

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 08:19

@LennyAndToots so so glad your cat came back! How worrying for you!

I'm just behind you, at 7dpo (but could be slightly out as I'm relying on my app and CB flashing smiley face only, not static). I keep thinking I'm feeling little niggles, which I think every single bloody month, only for AF to arrive. I just want to fast forward to next week to get this TWW over with again. Not sure how many more I can take!

Will you be testing early?

If anyone's interested, clear blue have a calculator on their website for when you can start testing (if you use an early test):

uk.clearblue.com/pregnancy-tests/early-pregnancy-testing

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 08:21

@Poppyismyfavourite I'm interested in your cat proof fence... how is it cat proof? We haven't let ours out since we moved but I'd like to!

LennyAndToots · 29/05/2020 08:34

@Daffodil21 and @Poppyismyfavourite thanks for your kind comments! We have lived in the house for two months now (we waited the recommended time on cats protection to let them out). So I think he went slightly further and either got lost or trapped in a shed. I had posted leaflets so a neighbour got in touch when he was in her garden so I managed to get round to get him but I think he must've been on his way home anyway. All of the neighbours hadn't seen him for days so he had definitely gone outside the immediate neighbourhood.

I've used a calculator and think I can test from tomorrow (I may have based that on another app) but I was going to wait til Sunday to do it. How about you?

I felt like I had symptoms before but they were too early so I was making it up in my mind!

Peach1204 · 29/05/2020 08:36

@LennyAndToots how stressful for you. So glad your baby is back home. My boy is in an indoor cat because I don't trust people - lots of people are mean to kitties. My DH has started taking him into our garden and it stresses me out. We bought him a harness but he is not keen. He now meows at the back door to go out but it will only ever be if we are here and I won't relax. I literally stand over him in case he gets frightened by a noise and runs off.

According to Flo I'm in the ovulation window - ovulating tomorrow. DTD everyday I don't feel is working for us. Sunday and Monday fine, Tuesday was more difficult as DH had been at work all day so then was happy DTD but it didn't feel relaxed. Skipped Wednesday then DTD last night. I think we will skip today and do tomorrow. I thought I'd be ok and not get impatient but now I just want to know what's going on in there! 😂 always said I would wait until AF didn't appear but not sure I'll be able too! Although it is a cheaper option instead of buying early tests! Xxx

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 08:40

@LennyAndToots yeah I'm going to test early too. I find it softens the blow very slightly when AF arrives. I'm going to try and wait until Thursday, but I'm just going to use the cheap ones. I've got some clear blue digitals tucked away if I ever have any doubt over a like (ha) - spent enough ££ on negative pregnancy tests!!

I really hope this month is your month! It would be amazing to catch in the first month! But also no reason why not!!

Daffodil21 · 29/05/2020 08:43

@Peach1204 I would recommend buying a couple of packs of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B073ZCB454/ref=cmcrrarpmbbbdcrb_top?ie=UTF8

You will absolutely want to test early, and if you've got a stash of these it's only £1 a go! (Is this your first month TTC?
