Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@AlisonLew15 thank you! Will get them ordered! Make sure I'm getting everything I need 😊

Daffodil21 · 25/05/2020 22:21

@Mrskcam I'm on cd25 of a 36 day cycle (usually), so I am now in the dreaded TWW. Been TTC for 18 months with 2 MCs. Currently in referral for fertility treatment but trying 'naturally' in the mean time as the waiting list is long.

I'm excited for everyone to start testing! Hopefully someone will get a positive this month!

Summertime1992 · 25/05/2020 23:10

@Daffodil21 you'll be one of the first of us to test then how exciting.

I must admit the 2ww is going to be painful I think, hopefully we are one of those lucky threads where lots of people catch :)

Mamainmaking1 · 25/05/2020 23:31

@Daffodil21 when are you going to test? So exciting!

Maybe this thread could offer me some advice - i am in the TWW ATM but I have noticed very small amounts of brown discharge the past two days and when I wiped tonight there was a tiny bit of bright red blood. AF isn't due to 31st and I have very short cycles eg 24days so I'm not many DPO. Could this be a sign of implantation bleeding? Or would it be far too early? Not sure whether to use a test yet as still about 5 days to Af.

Peach1204 · 26/05/2020 06:07

@Mrskcam I have heard good things too! Was put off pregnecare as people have said it messed up their cycle. Xxx

Mrskcam · 26/05/2020 07:52

Morning ladies, this heat is insane today, plus I work in a hospital so we have to wear masks constantly and I am sweating so so much! Just waiting on af to show up today although I don't know if she will because I feel so hot and bothered and out of sorts I just don't feel like I'm going to come on but the sooner the better!

Hope you all have a lovely day x

Mamainmaking1 · 26/05/2020 07:54

Took a test this morning but it was a BPN - no sign of any hint of a line. I know it might be early but I think il wait and just see if AF arrives now rather than holding false hope as I was so convinced.

Rocky89 · 26/05/2020 07:57

Soo AF decided to show up this morning 😭😭
I had spotting yesterday which is unusual, and then AF this morning, I know it was the first time trying but it goes to show even if you do everything in your power a lot of it is out of our control. So bummed today.
So it's not my turn this month so I'm putting all my positive vibes and baby dust in this thread for you lovely ladies! xx

Mamainmaking1 · 26/05/2020 08:15

Sorry to hear of AF @Rocky89, I agree it's slightly daunting to realise how out of control we are in this process.

HJen22 · 26/05/2020 08:17

@Rocky89 ugh it's so disappointing isn't it 😔 I was the same last week, I was finding it hard to know whether symptoms were time of the month or if I was thinking they were worse than they actually were/hoping they were pregnancy symptoms! All the luck for next month x

@Mamainmaking1 oh I'm sorry! But yeah you never know, it might have been too early! Fingers crossed!!

@Mrskcam it must be so tough in the hospital in the heat and with a mask, well done you for your hard work at such a crazy time!! I hope it's not too hot and uncomfortable today!! We aren't experiencing such high temps in Scotland!

@Daffodil21 the dreaded 2WW. Hope the days go quick for you! Really hope this is your month!! X

Daffodil21 · 26/05/2020 09:06

@Mamainmaking1 according to my app I should be due next Saturday, but I think I'll test a couple of days before. I sometimes feel I need to do this as getting the bfn grounds me a bit and makes me not get my hopes up too much. That probably sound really silly!
I don't want to get your hopes up, but I think there's a possibility that's implantation bleeding. I had it the first time I was pregnant - tiny bit in my underwear which I though was AF showing her ugly face. I went out for dinner that night and got so bloody drunk because I thought It was period. 4 days later I got a BFP after work, so I must have been late as not fmu (I wasn't tracking that month). Turned out it was a blighted ovum (I hate those words so much!!) and tbh it's haunted me a bit ever since.
But anyway, sorry! Spotting between ovulation and AF can be a good sign if you don't normally experience it, so fingers crossed for you!!!! Sorry about your bfn, but you're not out until AF arrives 🤞

@Rocky89 I'm so sorry AF arrived. It really is a horrible feeling when it does. Maybe give yourself a little treat that you couldn't have/do if you pregnant? 'Only' a couple more weeks then you can try again x

@Summertime1992 and @HJen22 I really hope so!! And for you too!

Rocky89 · 26/05/2020 09:41

Thanks ladies!
It's actually a better feeling than not knowing to be honest, I've gotten over my pity party (thankfully short-lived) so I've ordered some resistance bands and a new pair of gym leggings, gives me a few weeks to shed a few pounds, and deffo having a gin tonight as I didn't have any on my birthday as it was O weekend! Silver linings and all that!

Fingers and toes crossed for all!

MintGreenLife · 26/05/2020 09:41

@Rocky89 sorry to hear AF arrived, that must be really tough. Hope you can be kind to yourself today and relax.

I took my temp first thing this morn, am interested to see how it starts to map out over the next few days. Thanks for the recommendation. According to my app I'm meant to be ovulating tomorrow on CD17, but I can't see that being right as still getting negatives on OPKs and not getting any darker at all. Hopefully temping now and using OPKs will give me a better picture of what's happening x

Peach1204 · 26/05/2020 09:44

@Mrskcam hope work isn't too bad. Thank you for all you're doing! Xxx

@Rocky89 I completely understand the disappointed feeling. I was like that as well. It made me realise it isn't as easy as previously thought. You'll soon be into your next FW though so chin up. Treat yourself to some wine or Brie.

On that subject, I'm going to miss Brie when pregnant! 😂 whats everyone going to miss? I'll be super happy to be pregnant of course and it will be worth it. Tbf this 🐷 should probably have stepped away from the Brie a while ago!

@Daffodil21 I love all of your advice and kind words. Xxx

LennyAndToots · 26/05/2020 09:56

Hi @Rocky89 , sorry to hear that. Must be so disappointing.

Hmmm what shall I miss? With sun like this I think aperol spritz haha! I think I will need to google workarounds for alcohol. I managed a whole day yesterday on just tonics so I could pretend I was drinking and I'm not even PG. it's so hard to work our how to treat foods/alcohol in the TWW don't you think?

Peach1204 · 26/05/2020 10:06

@LennyAndToots hahaha the sun has been sticking around quite a bit isn't it?! It's definitely made lockdown easier. In terms of the TWW I think I've pretty much cut everything out to make it part of my normal life anyway (like you with the tonics yesterday!). I'm making sure I have my 5 a day and trying to up my protein a little. The list of foods to avoid when pregnant aren't too bad for me apart from the cheese bit! I'm a fussy eater but I know I'll still keep checking the list to make sure I'm doing it properly. Xxx

Daffodil21 · 26/05/2020 10:08

@LennyAndToots I treat food exactly the same in the TWW. I've decided to cut alcohol pretty much completely, but normally in the TWW I drink Eisenberg alcohol free wine - it's the best non alcoholic one I've tried (although obv not as nice as the real thing!!)

LennyAndToots · 26/05/2020 10:15

@Peach1204 and @Daffodil21 yeah I suppose if we cut things down it will begin to feel normal. I am by no means an alcohol but I do enjoy a glass of wine with my meal and then have a few drinks at a weekend. When we go back to socialising they all seem to be alcohol related so that will be difficult to disguise if, with any luck, I am PG.

A couples friends of ours that live close so often come and say hi via their dog walk.. welll, one of them is literally so excited to try our new cocktails with me when lockdown is over and I'm just thinking - I really need to dream up some excuses ASAP haha!

Yeah I just read the list about foods to avoid. It reminded me I was going to get a sushi takeaway soon so may avoid that now?? It only seems to be cheese that is the biggy in the list!

Daffodil21 · 26/05/2020 10:20

@LennyAndToots I would say go for the sushi tbh. I don't cut food out and did, until now only cut alcohol in the TWW. (Although when I get my period I am definitely having some wine!) If it takes a while then you're missing out on lots of things for no reason. It can make the whole process even more shit. As long as it's from a place you can trust, I don't see the harm. The sushi itself wouldn't harm you if you were pregnant, it's only the possibility of you getting sick from it

Daffodil21 · 26/05/2020 10:22

@LennyAndToots it's only soft cheeses though so you can still have things like cheddar etc. I think it's something to do with soft cheeses having more water so they are more likely to harbour bacteria

SaraVB · 26/05/2020 10:29

@Rocky89 sorry to hear about AF. I got my hopes up last month as well and convinced myself that I was seeing all kinds of symptoms. It was quite disappointing in the end although a relief to have an answer one way or the other after the dreaded 2ww.

Does anyone else eat like crazy in the TWW? I think the stress got to me and I was eating everything in sight.

I'm not sure what you cant eat when pregnant but I think you can't have cured meats and of course wine which is kind of heartbreaking having just moved to Portugal!

SaraVB · 26/05/2020 10:30

@Daffodil21 omg sushi I forgot about that! That's my favourite 😭 haha

Peach1204 · 26/05/2020 10:37

@LennyAndToots oh god! I would play the antibiotics card (not sure how long you can do that for though!) it's definitely going to be hard to hide things. Xxx

@SaraVB yep cured meats are on the list, do love a bit of chorizo! Xxx

Daffodil21 · 26/05/2020 10:38

@SaraVB cured meats, blue cheese and wine!!!

LennyAndToots · 26/05/2020 10:39

@Daffodil21 oh ok not too bad then - I will miss Brie! I don't eat Camembert enough and now I feel like I desperately need to have some haha!

Ok yeah it's my OHs birthday so was thinking about a special takeaway treat being sushi - it's from a decent restaurant. The takeaway will cost a small fortune so wouldn't have it usually!
