Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@MyGossip Thankyou I’m feeling much better today! I started with opks on CD7, 2 days after af finished and have just been testing once a day and I’m on CD12, but I think I’m going to test twice today as I have just used an opk and got a very faint line compared to yesterday when I used one later in the afternoon, so I think im going to test again at about 3! I only have 1 coffee a day but thinking of switching it to decaf anyway, every little helps! I think every woman starts using opks at different times but I know one lady on this thread told me that someone started testing the day after they finished af as they ovulated 2 days after and they got their BFP!x

jules5232 · 18/05/2020 12:38

Ladies I got my first positive OPK first thing this morning on CD15. I shouldnt be as excited as I am, but since I havent been able to catch one yet I was starting to question whether my body was even coming close to ovulation. It was making me a little nervous, to be honest.

@Squidge12 @MyGossip I actually have been trying to figure out what my symptoms of it might be, that's why I asked. The last few days (and around the same time 2 months ago) I started getting really nauseous throughout the day and some headaches. I wondered if any of you guys have the same or similar. Now that I got a positive surge, I am starting to think that maybe the two are linked.

Hi so I've had a positive OPK on CD 15 and i think I'm on 1 DPO today (CD17). My OPK today was completely negative. So probably ovulated CD16. I've had cramps in the general area on CD15.

Also next month i reckon i will change a few things has anyone had any experience with BBT measuring? I think it will be hard for me to be consistant but maybe it would let me know when i ovulate. Also i dont think i will start OPK as early i started at CD 8.

Who else is around a similar stage in the cycle? :)

Rooza · 18/05/2020 14:54

Also DTD alot around week one and got bored quickly 😅 managed to have it CD12-16 (skipped a day or two) so few alterations for next month maybe to have more during week two instead 😎

Scarlettxo · 18/05/2020 15:46

Hey guys! Glad everyone is doing okay!

I'm gutted - got AF today! :( but I'll be tracking as soon as it's finished.

Happy Monday everyone ❤️

MyGossip · 18/05/2020 16:36

@Vil10 I'll definitely start a couple of days after AF arrives. I feel like I'm ready for next month too!

@jules5232 that's a great line!! Good luck!!

@Rooza I'm currently CD22 so not far from you. And I agree, DTD does get a little boring after a few days at it. 🙈🙈

@Scarlettxo Sorry to her AF arrived. Hope you're ok?

jules5232 · 18/05/2020 16:44

@Scarlettxo I'm sorry :/ it's always so tough those first couple days when it shows up.

Vil10 · 18/05/2020 17:07

@jules5232 That’s a good strong line! good luck!
@Scarlettxo so sorry it is horrible those first few days but it’ll get better and your next cycle will be here before you know it!
I used an opk yesterday afternoon and got the strongest line in a few days but still not as strong as the control line, tested again today and it is only a faint line nowhere near as strong as yesterday’s! I’m so confused??

Squidge12 · 18/05/2020 17:20

@Scarlettxo sorry to hear AF arrived! Baby dust for next cycle Star

@Rooza I’m CD18 and 1 DPO. I haven’t been using BBT but used OPKs and they worked well to track my surge.

I’m worried about just DTD for the sake of it, takes the romance out of it. I know we are early on in our TTC journey so I may think differently in a few months! X

MyGossip · 18/05/2020 18:10

@Vil10 I did read that drinking lots beforehand can dilute your LH levels. I've been drinking loads the morning and then testing a few hours later. Not sure if it's totally true but I have been seeing a difference by doing this.

Vil10 · 18/05/2020 18:15

@MyGossip I’ve been doing it the opposite way round, having a wee in the morning then my morning coffee then not drinking anything or going to the toilet until I use the opk at about 1/2 then catching up on my water intake in the afternoon and evening! I might try the way you’ve done it though, always worth trying something different especially if it works!

MyGossip · 18/05/2020 20:22

@Vil10 tbh I was using my clear blue ones first thing in the morning and got nothing even though I was having ovulation pains. The next day I changed it to around 2/3pm and it and up high. Everyone's bodies are different I suppose.. good luck 🤞🏻❤️

Aokbaby · 18/05/2020 21:54

@MyGossip can I ask, do you wait until your urine is at room temp before you test? I'm back at work and wouldn't be able.to.do this during lunch 🙈 thanks x

MyGossip · 18/05/2020 21:58

@Aokbaby umm no, I just pee and test right away. I'm still learning all this stuff tbh so I'm not sure if you should wait until it reaches room temp. But I have found testing in the afternoon gives me a better result than when I was testing first thing in the morning. I'm now on 6DPO so won't be testing until after AF arrives (hoping she doesn't 🤞🏻)

Rooza · 19/05/2020 08:40

@Aokbaby I noticed the test quality is better if you pee in a (clean dry) cup and straight away dip in the stick (for however long the instructions sqy to keep it) around 20 secs. If i pee directly on it the test is not as clear, lines not as deep in colour etc 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gsr14 · 19/05/2020 08:53

@jules5232 so excited for you to have such a strong test! I got my positive opk on Sunday so now in the dreaded tww. I think we will both be testing around the same time this cycle!

@NJ2910 sorry to hear about af arriving :( fingers crossed for cycle 3!

OP posts:
Rooza · 19/05/2020 11:42

So for those going into tww around now, what's this about the BBF staying higher if you are pregnant and gradually decreasing if you're not. I've randomly checked temp and says 36.5°c that's that then im not?😳 I'm like 2dpo today has any of you checked your temp in luteal phase?

Gsr14 · 19/05/2020 12:03

@Rooza your BBT should be lower between af and ovulation, the day before ovulation it may dip a bit and then after you BBT will go up and stay up until af arrives. If af arrives then it will drop back down but if you are pregnant it will stay up.

For example, this month my bbt was 36.1/36.2 until the day before ovulation when it when down to 36.0. Today it’s 36.5 which means I’ve ovulated and it should stat that high or higher until af arrives :)

Ladies, can you offer any advice please?

I'm 7DPO today and although I feel I may have missed my peak ovulation date, hubby and I still DTD over the course of the week and I'm feeling a little unusual body wise. Could just be in my head but for the last two days I've had really tender boobs, more specifically my right one (the side I get my ovulation pains) really tender lower back ache, period style cramps and creamy discharge (sorry for TMI). I keep thinking I should take an FRER but I fight with myself thinking 'it's too early'... 'it's all in your head' and 'you'll jinx it if you're not'.

Can anyone offer any advice? I'm really reluctant to test as I know I'll be incredible disappointed if it's not a BFP. So I'm really just curious if anyone else has had similar symptoms? ❤️

Rooza · 19/05/2020 13:26

@MyGossip wow that sounds promising 💜 I've never had these symptoms so it sounds good to me. I would wait however, until day before af should come maybe because i feel like getting hopes up by getting something inconclusive is worse than waiting a few more days.

Vil10 · 19/05/2020 14:50

@MyGossip that sounds positive! Like @Rooza said, maybe try and wait a little bit, I know it’s so so hard but just try wait until the day before af to test!
I’ve got to say though girls i think I’m giving up with opks for this cycle, I had the strongest line I’ve had on the 17th then yesterday and today they so faint they’re hardly there, it’s getting me so stressed and making me think now that I’m not even ovulating so I think I’m going to stop the opks for this cycle and just listen to my body and carry on DTD every 2-3 days!x

Rayrayj · 19/05/2020 15:11

@Vil10 it may be that you peaked around the 17th but didn't quite catch it? Some people's levels rise an fall quite quickly. Mine are like yours, I think I missed my peak. I'm still using them just to get an idea of things but not relying on them at all. Too much stress!

Vil10 · 19/05/2020 15:31

@Rayrayj yeah that could be a possibility, I was only CD11 on the 17th but everyone ovulates at different times and sometimes early I suppose! If that was my ovulation then it won’t be too bad as we DTD 14th 15th and 17th morning! Isn’t it stressful! Glad I’m not the only one who thinks it!

MyGossip · 19/05/2020 15:36

@Vil10 @Rooza you're both probably right. What's another few days wait 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm apparently due AF on May 28th do its literally a week. I feel that time is going so slow right now so no doubt the next week will drag. Thank you ladies.

@Vil10 I think I missed mine too but don't be disheartened. We are all learning and next month when you're testing you'll have a brilliant line. ❤️

Rooza · 19/05/2020 16:05

@Vil10 I agree that OPKs interpretation is something to think about I'm thinking of getting the the clear blue OPKs with estrogen measurement because its easier to understand than checking colour intensities and gives you 4 fertile days. Also, since I do have a thyroid issue even though i am taking medication I'm thinking of going doctors to get some advice and blood tests. I do remember having slightly high testosterone and prolactin few years back. idk if im ovulating every month, although this month i definitely had cramps. I haven't been on contraception in years but never "tried" to get pregnant 🤷🏼‍♀️ For sure overthinking level is at maximum now 😅 also feel like I would never get bfp
