Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@abilouise93 @LittleMissBlatherskite I think we all need to make our own decisions and leave other people's opinions where they belong - far away from us! Anyway who says there's a proper way of doing things?! I think this virus has made us prioritise things that are important to us and that will differ from person to person. Lots of luck and positive vibes being sent to you juggling everything at once.

abilouise93 · 15/05/2020 09:56

@Flamingle909 I think you are right we have enough to worry about without adding to the equation.

Myself @LittleMissBlatherskite and anyone else worrying about this should try to put that to the back of their mind or ignore their negativity full stop!

Hey everyone

Hope everyone is well. I’ve been tracking with OPKs as I have no idea about my cycle as just come off the pill. I’m on CD15 and up until today OPKs having been showing nothing. Today has been the first day I got a faint line. I’m trying not to get my hopes up but I’m really hoping this means my ovulation will be soon and my lines keep getting darker Smile!

Vil10 · 15/05/2020 14:51

@Squidge12 hey! I’m CD9 and started testing 2 days ago and I’ve been getting faint lines too which get slighter darker by the day, but not dark enough yet! I hope yours get darker too!
From other women’s experience how many days before ovulation do you all get lines on opks?? Just so I roughly know how many days it will be? Or is it different for everyone? Just thinking will I have 6/7 days before I get a line that’s as dark as the control line or will it be longer x

Squidge12 · 15/05/2020 22:43

@Vil10 I’ve been watching too many YouTube videos on this and they all differ slightly in lengths! I think when the line starts to get darker I’m going to test twice per day just so I can see how long my surge lasts!

MintGreenLife · 15/05/2020 23:19

@Vil10 @Squidge12 I used my first test today on CD5 and got a faint line. From what I understand what OPKs test for is generally present in small amounts so lots of women get faint lines outside of ovulation. The best bet is to test everyday during your first cycle to find your base line and then you'll be able to see when the lines are getting darker and when your peak is. For some women I guess the base line might be no line, and for others a faint line. Like I said this is my first time testing, this is just what I understand ☺️ Hope that helps x

Vil10 · 16/05/2020 08:42

@Flamingle909 wow congratulations!!! Amazing xxx

Squidge12 · 16/05/2020 08:50

@Flamingle909 congratulations!! How many dpo are you??

@MintGreenLife thank you... I’m hoping it’s darker today xx

Flamingle909 · 16/05/2020 08:53

Thank you everyone! @squidge12 I think 12 dpo. Going to keep testing though I think to see if line gets stronger over next few days!

Vil10 · 16/05/2020 09:00

@MintGreenLife Thankyou I’ll try that! 3 of my apps are saying my fertile window is 2 days but another is saying it isn’t until the end of the month so I’ll definitely carry on using opks everyday for the next few weeks x

KatieG200394 · 16/05/2020 09:07

@Flamingle909 congratulations, that's amazing Smile xx

abilouise93 · 16/05/2020 09:12

Massive congratulations @Flamingle909, fantastic news xx

Vil10 · 16/05/2020 09:14

Since coming off the pill has anyone had a few spots and bad skin? I’ve always been lucky to never have spots or acne or bad skin, and only got the odd spot during af but since coming off the pill I’ve had a few little spots around my chin x

NJ2910 · 16/05/2020 09:24

Congratulations @Flamingle909 fab news 😊😊

I'm plodding onto CD35 and still no sign of AF but also still getting BFNs. Cracked and had a glass of prosecco last night because I just dont think I'm pregnant now. I rang the doctor and she was pretty dismissive really, just said my cycles needed more time to balance out after having the implant out and she would expect AF any day now..

@Squidge12 when your line starts to darken, increase the testing to 3 times a day as I've heard of other people missing the surge as it can only last 12 hours sometimes and therefore can be missed :)

MintGreenLife · 16/05/2020 09:31

@Flamingle909 huge congrats!!! That's so exciting 😀

I wanted to ask you, as we are reading the same book ☺️ - did you take a conception supplement? I've just been taking folic acid and vitamin D, but the the book basically says a prenatal supplement is a must, so I've ordered the Seven Seas Trying for a Baby one. I read pregnacare can mess around with your cycles and I've only been off the pill 6 weeks so wouldn't want to risk that. A very small number of people said the same about Seven Seas, but far fewer - that seems to get mostly raving reviews. Just wondering if you took the same advice and started taking a prenatal supplement?

Congrats again 😘 Xx

MintGreenLife · 16/05/2020 09:32

@Vil10 I had a little initial surge of spots when I first came off about 6 weeks ago, but that only lasted a week and was probably around 3-4 spots. My skin seems to have settled down again now, apart from a couple of spots since I got AF on Monday x

Scarlettxo · 16/05/2020 09:49

@Flamingle909 Wow Congratulations! 😁

Sorry I've been back at work so have been super quiet but I'm catching up with everyone! Work has been a good distraction tbh. My app has had another flakey and with my logging of symptoms has jumped another 6 days till period due (from 18/05 to 24/05!) So I have no idea what's going on! Apparently have DTD throughout FW though, guess I'll wait till end of next week for any signs/to test!

For everyone worried about people's opinions - I am 100% the same! We haven't told anyone & will keep it that way! Lots of luck and love x

Flamingle909 · 16/05/2020 09:58

@mintgreenlife thank you! No I didn't take anything other than folic acid and vitamin d. I wrote a note of all the different things I could take but just thought I'll figure out what I want to do next cycle (only started reading it after I got peak fertility on my test so didn't actually make use of anything I read!) Yeah I've read the same about various supplements affecting cycle length and to be honest after coming off the pill last year my cycles had been really regular so I don't know if I would have wanted to risk messing them up. It's all very confusing so I think all we can do is make our own judgements about what to do!

Flamingle909 · 16/05/2020 09:59

@scarlettxo thank you! Doesn't feel real tbh so I'm just going to keep testing and see what happens....

Flamingle909 · 16/05/2020 09:59

@nj2910 thank you!

Flamingle909 · 16/05/2020 10:01

@abilouise93 @katieg200394 thank you both too!

Aokbaby · 16/05/2020 10:04

Can I ask if anyone had any underlying health issues when TTC, I've just had treatment for h pylori in my stomach as I was thinking it may have played a part in conceiving, as they say the gut is so important, anyone any similar experiences? x

Vil10 · 16/05/2020 10:23

@Scarlettxo don’t the apps really confuse you! It just throws everything out the window, I just think if I DTD every 2/3 days I’m bound to catch my fertile days somewhere! However it’s only just occurred to me that this cycle is the first time we’ll properly be TTC over the fertile window! I came off 31st jan but had an op 12th Feb so DTD was out of the window until March, March I had 2 af so had no idea when I ovulated as flo app couldn’t even point it, April I had no af, and what I thought was the week my af was making an appearance because I had slight cramps, actually turned out to be my ovulation days as I only realised when I put my af for May into flo and it showed those days as being my fertile window! So this month is the first I’ll actually be in control of it all!! I feel positive for it all though!x
