TTC after miscarriage - February 2020

Hi to anyone reading 👋🏻

This is a thread for anyone TTC / testing in February, after a miscarriage.

I’ll start off with intros! I’m 37 and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in December. I TTC straight afterwards, but AF found me, so here I still am on this crazy, frustrating, rollercoaster of a journey!

I joined the January thread after my miscarriage and it’s been amazing to go there and chat to other women who know how you feel.

So for anyone joining this, I’m so so sorry you find yourself here, but you’re in good company ❤️

@leok83 since doing the ovulation test I have been reading loads into and seems I may have been a bit too soon to get my hopes up. I did a pregnancy test afterwards and although at first it looked like a negative, by the end of the time it was a very faint positive so would seem I still have HCG in the system. Been reading and there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on whether you can still ovulate with this. A lot of opinions on it but not many facts unfortunately! My plan is to continue ovulation testing, and if it drops after a couple of days like it did before pregnancy I will hope/assume it's correct.

My HCG levels were pretty low at 520 on Monday, I was retested on Thursday evening but haven't got the results yet. Would be great it they dropped that quickly but now doubting it 🤦

Leok83 · 19/01/2020 17:43

@shhhhs yes I’ve been googling the hell out of it too and there def doesn’t seem to be any definite info on it. It does seem from other forums I’ve read that some ladies def ovulated with low levels but they seemed to be under 50. So hard to know. I was never actually told to do a HPT after procedure but didn’t want the confusion of ttc of not knowing if was old or new HCG. Were your levels checked as routine after the MC? I think if I’m still positive by the 2 week mark on HPT I’ll ask for bloods to make sure it’s def dropping. I thought I’d be getting faint like you but mine is blazing positive within seconds still. It’s so frustrating and really holds you back from trying to move on😔

AlviesMam · 19/01/2020 18:19

Hey
I was on the last thread.
2 days until AF is due
Got stronger symptoms before my period last month. Just feel bloated this time around. I'm hoping this is the month, it's so frustrating that my symptoms change each month, it gives my hopes up :( xx

shhhhs · 19/01/2020 18:39

@leok83 yes I had HCG levels checked as routine. My miscarriage was natural with no intervention needed so whether that's the reason? They said it needed doing incase the pregnancy was in an unknown location. The midwife at the time said if the levels had been under 500 they wouldn't ask for another blood test, due to being just over that threshold I had a second test. Will be interesting to hear those results tomorrow to all how quickly it has dropped. A lot of people say the have had their period return at 4 weeks-ish. If this is the case I guess it makes sense for ovulation to be around 2 weeks after miscarriage. Of course everyone is different and depends on cycle length. I also wasn't told to do a HPT and the thought didn't even occur to me until reading posts, my result was very very faint so I'm hoping my levels are pretty low now. I definitely agree with you about asking for another blood test if you don't get a negative in a couple of weeks. I think I will re-test HPT in a few days to see if it goes completely.

Leok83 · 19/01/2020 18:50

@shhhhs ah yes I suppose that prob is why yours is routine as you MC naturally. Ya a lot of people do seem to get period at 4 weeks so def looks good for you especially if your HPT was so faint, hopefully I won’t be far behind you too🤞!!!

shhhhs · 19/01/2020 18:57

@leok83 I'm sure it won't be long for you 🤞😁. How are feeling emotionally now following the MC? I was struggling with hormones horrendously, each day seems to be a little better though and today is the first day I haven't cried, winning!! 😂

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 19/01/2020 19:11

@sprkl I can't really say. I think I'm healthier and have not really had a cold this winter, and I have conceived twice....but I've also miscarried twice, so j don't know if that means anything. Just going to try again for third time lucky

GoldenBauble · 19/01/2020 20:11

Hi all, I'm on the jan thread but going to be hopping on to this one too! I'm not actually ttc until March so a bit of an imposter at the minute but I'm hanging around for company and positive stories 😂.

This is completely anecdotal and based on my experience but 4 weeks after my surgery for a MMC my pregnancy tests were still showing as being positive. Epu did bloods which showed as being 'borderline negative' and my hcg was 9. My period arrived 5 days later and I never got a negative pregnancy test before and I must have ovulated two weeks before when I assume my hcg was still reasonably high! I was convinced my period wouldn't come for another few weeks when I was still getting positive pregnancy tests so came as a pleasant surprise 😂

shhhhs · 19/01/2020 20:26

@goldenbauble that's good to know that its possible ovulate when still have HCG in the system.

Leok83 · 19/01/2020 21:56

@shhhhs I’m doing a lot better this week, the first week I just felt so numb and empty and was going between being angry to just felling so low and crying all the time. I went back to work then and it has been good for me as the girls there were so good and I could take it easy whilst still getting my mind off everything. Also I found I was taking the anger out on DH so staying at home for longer would have just ended up being toxic. Have talked it through with a few friends too who’ve been through it and have come out the other side with healthy babies and it’s all helped immensely. I haven’t cried in a few days now! I know it’s all so raw still tho but I hope you continue to feel better over the next few weeks.xx

@GoldenBauble thanks so much for giving some good clarity on the hcg!! It’s really good to know and def makes it less stressful seeing a positive at this stage! And not an imposter at all!!😄 Even if not TTC right now we’re all unfortunately (and hopefully more fortunately for the future) on the same journey together regardless of the month!!

TerribleImagination · 19/01/2020 22:06

@AlviesMam It’s the worst when you don’t know what the symptoms mean isn’t it! I do know that before my BFP before the miscarriage, I felt exactly like I was about to get AF. Every friend I know who’s been pregnant has said the same too. Cruel really that our bodies don’t differentiate!

Crossing everything for you 🤞🏻❤️

@TerribleImagination thank you!
My last two pregnancies (my two losses) I didn't get symptoms of AF which is a sign I know I'm pregnant but this time around I'm windy and bloated but not strong AF symptoms. Can early pregnancy symptoms be different with every pregnancy? I'm driving myself craZy arghh xxx

TerribleImagination · 20/01/2020 09:41

@AlviesMam Oh I totally think they can be different each pregnancy! I know people who’ve had different symptoms each time, with successful pregnancies. Doesn’t help to add to our confusion does it?! 😆

You know what I can’t get out of my head since I got AF last week... How some people just get pregnant and then have a baby. I can’t get my head around it!! 🤯

I am officially joining the thread...
14dpo (conservative 14 so probably more like 15) and still BFN on frer.
No signs of AF but even less signs of pregnancy...
It will be first AF since MC at xmas...

Now worried it will take ages to arrive!

But hope that February will be our month :)

TerribleImagination · 20/01/2020 10:29

Hi @Michette 👋🏻

So sorry AF is being annoying / there’s no BFP 😕 Fingers crossed you find out either way ASAP! ❤️

Michette · 20/01/2020 10:48

Thanks @terrible ! How are you getting on?

TerribleImagination · 20/01/2020 14:14

@Michette I’m currently waiting to start the Clear Blue OPK testing in 2 days! On CD6 at the mo, so cracking on with that and following the same DTD pattern as we did the month we conceived! Basically SMEP sort of... So very soon back to way much of that than anyone would choose to do 😆

OP posts:
Michette · 20/01/2020 15:17
Grin Sounds good!!! How was the period after MC? I wonder if it will be normal or heavier? I was discussing with OH today and we also decided to do SMEP more seriously because apparently in November when we got pregnant we did multiple times a day in the fertile days...But i am worried about UTI or BV if too much !?

How do you even avoid it???
Also we used pre seed in jan and didn’t in november so now considering dropping pre seed Confused

Southy84 · 20/01/2020 15:30

I’m hoping it’s ok to join, I had surgery Friday for a mmc, baby was 9+3 and I found out at 11+4 the bad news. Having a bad day today, feel so emotional, it should have been our 12 week NHS scan today and I just feel so sad. I was told I have to wait 2 weeks then do a hpt to make sure it’s not showing positive still. Then they recommend waiting until after first proper period to try again if we want to. So I won’t be trying straight away but hope it’s ok to join you all. Sorry you are all trying after a mc, it really is such a hard time and I have everything crossed everyone gets their bfp very soon x

TerribleImagination · 20/01/2020 16:00

@Michette Actually the period after miscarriage was odd... it started like you hear people say implantation bleeding is (light pink and brown - tiny amounts) and then went to a sort of normal period, but it still had a fair amount of brown blood in there! Was also noticeably lighter than usual, which really surprised me. It was painful though.

I was also worried about getting a UTI or something, because after DTD I just stayed in bed and went to sleep! Grim I know, but the month I started doing that is the month I got pregnant 🤷🏻‍♀️

I aused pre seed the month I conceived! No idea if that helped or not, and I used it after miscarriage too but not with the applicator, so deffo going back to that this month but again I have NO IDEA if it helps or not. It’s such a confusing business isn’t it!

Hi @Southy84 👋🏻 I’m so sorry you find yourself here and that you’re going through such an awful experience and rubbish day.

We’re all always here to listen when you need to rant about anything! Sending love ❤️

I’m having a relatively normal period first time after my loss, must be different for everyone. I can’t wait for it to finish so we can start ttc properly. No idea of the length of my cycles though as I’ve never been regular, will just have to dtd lots ha.

AlviesMam · 20/01/2020 21:06

@TerribleImagination yep I agree!!! Some women make it look so easy and here we are on a thread of TTC!! 🙈
At least we're all in it together and can ask crazy questions amongst ourselves hehe.
Xxxx

AlviesMam · 20/01/2020 21:07

@HenrysHome have you got the FLO app?
You can work out your average cycle length on this app xxx

Southy84 · 21/01/2020 09:07

Thank you @TerribleImagination x

I hope that I don’t upset anyone by asking this but I have no idea if it’s normal. So I had surgery Friday, barely any bleeding and no pain. Then last night out of nowhere I have awful cramps and bleeding which has continued into today. Has this happened to anyone else? I’ve had a mmc before but didn’t have surgery and wasn’t expecting this 3 days after the operation. I don’t feel it’s bad enough to phone the hospital, I just thought it was weird that I was so ok physically for the first couple of days and now this :(
