Hi to anyone reading 👋🏻

This is a thread for anyone TTC / testing in February, after a miscarriage.

I’ll start off with intros! I’m 37 and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in December. I TTC straight afterwards, but AF found me, so here I still am on this crazy, frustrating, rollercoaster of a journey!

I joined the January thread after my miscarriage and it’s been amazing to go there and chat to other women who know how you feel.

So for anyone joining this, I’m so so sorry you find yourself here, but you’re in good company ❤️

Evening all. Gutted to be moving over here. Today I'm on cd1 of my 2nd cycle of trying.

Back in September I had a missed miscarriage of twin girls at 16 weeks. I've returned to work last week hoping to be pregnant again very quickly but it doesn't look as though that was meant to be.

I have a 2 year old little boy who has kept me going since we lost our daughters.

I've found today difficult, AF arriving at work, to the see my headmistress's sister, who I went to school with, bring her 5 week old daughter in. I just ran into the staff room and cried.

HenrysHome · 17/01/2020 19:18

Hello everyone, do you mind if I join in? So sorry to hear of everyone’s losses Sad

I had a mmc 7 weeks ago, we found out at 20 weeks that baby had stopped growing at 13 weeks.

We started trying again very early and as I caught first time last time I had really high hopes, but af has appeared today with a vengeance (first time since the loss).

I took 4 pregnancy tests before af came, I think I’m getting a little obsessed!

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 17/01/2020 20:16

@shhhs I saw my consultant today for my d and c, he is a very good gynae surgeon and Fertility doctor who has previously treated me for endo. He said I needed to take two weeks to recover/avoid infection but after that it was up to when I (and DH) are emotionally ready. I ovulate pretty early in my cycle so I may have ovulated before two weeks are up anyway so we're just going to take it one day at a time.

Sorry to those others who have joined us here x

Annie0425 · 17/01/2020 21:32

I have also heard that waiting for 1 period recommendation is mainly for dating purposes, so if you feel emotionally and physically ready, can definitely try immediately...
@HenrysHome...I remember you from another thread...how are you? Settling back at work okay?
@Ejb86 sorry to hear that af got you and you had a difficult day...just stay strong and positive..I know easier said than done! But we are here to support you..fingers crossed feb is your month!!
Fingers crossed for everyone here...
Is anyone here doing anything different Specifically for conception or to try and prevent an MC? I know there’s probably nothing we can do to prevent it from happening, but just curious if anyone of you have tried or are planning to try anything different...have heard people going for acupuncture, higher doses of multivitamins etc...but not sure if there’s anything that really helps..

Ejb86 · 18/01/2020 05:26

@Annie0425 I'm just taking multi vitamins and my consultant prescribed a higher dose of folic acid to take before ttc so I'm taking that too.

HenrysHome · 18/01/2020 07:31

@Annie0425 👋 how are you doing? Work has been so stressful at the moment with prep for a really important visitor and it’s so frustrating because I just think ‘my baby died I don’t care about your visit’ but obviously that’s not how my colleagues are feeling which is difficult. We’re also talking about projects for when I should have been off and that’s really hard because it’s just another reminder that I should be getting ready for maternity soon. Anyway, onwards and upwards.

I’m just continuing with the left over folic acid and when that runs out I will probably invest in some conception vitamins x

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 18/01/2020 08:25

@annie0425. I take a range of supplements and will continue to do so (pregnaplan foodsourced multivit, extra folic acid as folate, C0Q10, Omega3, vitamin d, vitamin e and iron tablets as I've lost quite a bit of blood with this miscarriage). I'm probably going to book in for Arvigo abdominal massage pre- ovulation (although no idea when that will be), I'll do some caster oil packs once the bleeding has stopped. I may also go to see my regular accupuncturist but that is because I'm very tired talking to people who know me and what happened and feel sorry for me. Ive also given up caffeine, mostly given up dairy and really cleaned up my diet. I've been on a longer fertility journey with endometriosis and have struggled to conceive (over a year with nothing, surgery for endo, conceive and miscarried two cycles in a row so this whole experience has been extra 'shocking.') I have to maintain faith and hope I can get 'third time lucky' (not necessarily next cycle but when it does happen.)

Sparkl · 18/01/2020 08:38

@Leok83 that’s interesting that the bbt showed when you’re ovulating. I had been doing opks to avoid the waking early! How consistent are you with the time every morning? So far mine has been really inaccurate because I’ve woken during the night or moved around or something. I suppose it just takes time to get into it.

On the doing this differently, I’m doing some supplements, also getting selenium through Brazil nuts and generally trying to improve diet as well. It’s not terrible but I was lighter and healthier when I had a successful pregnancy so there’s no harm trying to get back to that.
Really need to work on stress levels too, the combination of work and ttc is really hard at the moment.

Sparkl · 18/01/2020 08:38

*on doing things differently

Sparkl · 18/01/2020 08:46

@CurbsideProphet meant to say, I had the same reaction, at the time I didn’t have the emotional resilience to deal with people saying the wrong thing. So have told hardly anyone. Sometimes I feel like I should have so that it’s easier for others but I just couldn’t do it at the time.

CurbsideProphet · 18/01/2020 09:32

@Sparkl I know my mum and MIL would be upset and I would have felt obliged to make them feel better about it.

TerribleImagination · 18/01/2020 10:22

Hi to everyone who’s joined 👋🏻 And @Ejb86 I’m so sorry AF showed for you too, it’s really upsetting after a miscarriage isn’t it?

OP posts:
Leok83 · 18/01/2020 13:53

@TerribleImaginationfertility friends app which is really good. It’s just good to have ovulation confirmed as the opks can give a high reading but doesn’t mean you definitely have ovulated. I’m a total control freak so I feel it helps me knowing what my body’s doing even if I can’t control it!

For me doing things differently I’ve started accupuncture but that’s it really so far.

I’m still getting strong positive PT today 10 days after ERPC. Did it take anyone else a long time for hcg to go back to 0? I know it can take a few weeks but was expecting line to be getting a bit fainter by now.

Leok83 · 18/01/2020 13:59

@TerribleImagination sorry I’ve no idea why that cut out the first half of what I said there and tagged you 🤦‍♀️ Very annoying and can’t figure how to edit or delete it!

Meant to have tagged @Sparkl!! Take 2! I tend to wake up to pee at 5.30 but have alarm set for 5.45 in case I don’t and will go back to sleep after. Def works best with a consistent time for temp. I use the fertility friends app to put in details which def seems the easiest app to read charts from. Second half of what I’d said is in post above just for confusion😄!!

Ejb86 · 18/01/2020 17:19

@TerribleImagination it really is upsetting. It doesn't help that next week we hit the date that our babies would have been born, had all been well. I'd hoped we might have been pregnant again by then.

TerribleImagination · 18/01/2020 17:35

@Ejb86 Aw I’m so sorry lovey, I can only imagine how tough the due date will be. Sending love to you ❤️

Annie0425 · 18/01/2020 22:40

Thanks @Ejb86 and @Timeforanamechangeagain1 what dose of folic acid are you both taking? Any reason your were prescribed the higher dose?
Wow that’s a long list of supplements
Timeforanamechange... Are they all doctor recommended? have you been taking them since the beginning of your fertility journey or just after the MC? I have never heard of the Arvigo abdominal massage. Have you tried it before? (Sorry too many questions!!)
You are so strong to be making so many positive changes! Sorry that your journey has been so difficult...sending lots of love...hope you are recovering okay after the d & c and fingers crossed third time is your lucky time!!
I am thinking if I do get a bfp, I might ask for a test to check progesterone levels...didn’t get it checked in this pregnancy and I keep thinking what if that’s why I had the MC!!
Hi @henryshome... good to hear fro you...I am okay...work is keeping me busy so that’s taken my mind off everything... I know how you feel regarding work and colleagues....I initially found it hard to care about deadlines, priorities etc and had the constant feeling that all this doesn’t really matter...but I am better now, I keep busy and try not to think about it too much and carry on with things. But I agree it’s very difficult...

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 18/01/2020 23:15

@Annie0425 I don't mind the questions :) I've been working with a nutritional therapist on the supplements, although I do my own research as well to ensure I understand what I am taking. So for eg most fertility docs recommend C0Q10 in preparation for IVF for egg health and quality, some miscarriage specialists recommend omega 3s and vitamin d. I've been taking them for a few months now, not just since the miscarriages (the second was only last week) although I've not been on them the full three months generally recommended to address egg health before you start trying, iyswim. I did work out that with the first miscarriage, that egg would have been maturing just as I went through the single most stressful experience of my life last summer, and the second miscarriage egg wasn't too far behind. The stress could have affected things. I don't know if that's nonsense but rationalising it in my head like that has helped a bit. I've had the Arvigo therapy once before, just after my first miscarriage. I don't know if it helped (I did get pregnant again!) But I found it very relaxing. I wasn't keen on the therapist so I'm just seeing if I can find someone else.

Ejb86 · 19/01/2020 07:53

@Annie0425 the consultant prescribed 5mg of folic acid, so that's what I'm taking. I am considerably overweight though, so that may be why.

We had a postmortem on the twins and I know that the

newmum2020 · 19/01/2020 08:10

Hi ladies I will join you! TTC after miscarriage at 8 weeks in November last year. First AF arrived Xmas eve. I only track using Fitbit ( was accurate last time as only DTD once, on day of predicted ovulation, when we conceived in October) I am currently 12DPO and AF due Tuesday....no symptoms at all whereas last time I had Uber sore boobs but I just can't remember if that happened before or after period was late!

@shhhhs I noticed you'd asked about OPKs after miscarriage. I tried this and got positive OPK on 9th Dec then AF turned up two weeks later which seems spot on! I just didn't get pregnant obvs😢but I've read about lots who do in that time before first period. The only difficulty is knowing when to test as you don't really know where you are in cycle (unless you just have loads and test daily!) I just picked random days!

Sorry for everyone's losses. Good luck and I look forward to sharing this journey x

shhhhs · 19/01/2020 09:50

Thanks @newmum2020. I think I will start testing today just to see what it says. It's been 9 days since I misscarriaged so hopefully heading towards ovulation. I have been incredibly lucky with my previous pregnancies in that they happened so so quickly, fingers crossed it's the same this time 🤞

shhhhs · 19/01/2020 15:25

Just did an ovulation test and it's says 'high'. Exciting! 😁🤞🍀

Sparkl · 19/01/2020 15:41

@Leok83 yeah I think I need to get a bit more organised doing the temping. So you mostly use it to confirm ovulation happened or do you usually notice the temp dip beforehand too? Sorry for all the questions!

@Timeforanamechangeagain1 thanks for sharing the supplement info, I haven’t seen any consultants so have just been going off my own reading and have read a lot of contradictory things! Have you noticed any results from any of the supplements you tried? (I’m only on first cycle of vit c and d)
I only heard recently about that 3 months egg maturing idea, and like you was trying to think back to what was happening at that time. This is my fourth cycle since mc so hopefully less stressed out eggs!

newmum2020 · 19/01/2020 15:53

@shhhhs 🤗🤗good luck!!

Leok83 · 19/01/2020 16:41

@Sparkl no worries about the questions at all!!I used it to confirm ovulation mainly, haven’t been doing it long enough to see a pattern immediately preovulation but from what I can see the dip wasn’t too obvious so doubt I’d be able tell I was about to ovulate unless had a good few charts similar. I did I. Combination with OPK though..used both the cheap internet strips and CB smiley indicator so knew for definite what was happening and when! My OPK strips never really looked like a peak at the darkest point so I was glad BBT confirmed I had def ovulated. My DH said I was a walking chemical experiment 😂 honestly knowing what’s happening and when keeps me sane but I know other people could be driven mad by it!

@shhhhs good luck! I noticed you are close to me on times of MC (mine was 11 days ago), have you done a HPT to confirm it’s def your LH increased and not just false positive from HCG still in the system cause mine is still coming up as strong positive on HPT yesterday morning so an OPK would also look high but would be a false positive. 🤞it’s not for you and you are going to ovulate soon!!
