TTC after miscarriage - February 2020

Hi to anyone reading 👋🏻

This is a thread for anyone TTC / testing in February, after a miscarriage.

I’ll start off with intros! I’m 37 and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in December. I TTC straight afterwards, but AF found me, so here I still am on this crazy, frustrating, rollercoaster of a journey!

I joined the January thread after my miscarriage and it’s been amazing to go there and chat to other women who know how you feel.

So for anyone joining this, I’m so so sorry you find yourself here, but you’re in good company ❤️

@BS9790 was that AF since MC? Ovulation stick wise I used PreMom where you scan it into the app and it gives you a reading. I'm a bit of a novice with OPK so maybe this is something they all do, but I can actually recommend this one. And they are way cheaper than Clear Blue! I got pregnant straight away with those.

AlviesMam · 23/01/2020 20:21

Third period after my still birth. Sorry for the TMI but this bleeding is non stop!!! I've went through four night time pads today... no clots though. My last two were light. I really don't understand.
Anyone advise me from my FLO app when to start trying. I seem to do usually DTD every day until the last week but then my DH gets tired when it comes to ovulation week because we've DTD every night lol so never know when is best. Might try OPK this time around but not sure what else I could do differently.

Just wondering if any has had this, went from low fertility (the circle on CB OPK) yesterday straight to peak solid smiley today with no flashing? Hoping we haven’t missed the boat.

I’ve been talking to the February egg in an encouraging voice for about a week now so I think I’ve fully lost the plot.

Bathwater · 23/01/2020 21:24

Hi is it ok if I join?
I just had my third miscarriage in a row yesterday (confirmed today). I’m being referred to a recurrent miscarriage but we’re of the belief to get back on the horse.
My second MMC in sept 2019 was quite traumatic so it took me a while to cope afterwards, but feel oddly calm after this one (The first and last one I was at home and I was expecting it).
Thank you for creating a safe space and I look forward to seeing everyone’s positive news.

BS9790 · 23/01/2020 21:35

@shhhhs yes first AF since mc.
Ah thanks, I will look at those.
I never got what I would of classed as a "peak" on the ones I used, just 3 days where it was very dark... So who knows if I even ovulated, or if the opks were accurate. Its the first time I've tried them x

Happythecrocodile · 24/01/2020 07:41

Hi all, can I join? I had a mc last week (confirmed yesterday by blood test) I was 5+5. Keen to start trying ttc again but also a bit nervous. Can we start again straight away or is it better to wait for any reason?

TerribleImagination · 24/01/2020 09:02

@Bathwater Of course you can, welcome! ❤️ I’m so so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. You’re definitely in a safe and friendly space here.

@Happythecrocodile Hi and welcome to the group 👋🏻 It always feel odd welcoming people here, as obviously we’re all here for very sad reasons, but you’re in good company ❤️ I was around the same as you when I miscarried (I was 5+3) and we tried again straight away before waiting for a period, although I didn’t use OPK’s that month, as I thought they might not be accurate with falling HCG levels. No joy that month anyway, but I’ve had my first AF since the miscarriage now and am back on the Clear Blues! I’d say as long as you feel emotionally really, then try again whenever you want. The waiting one cycle thing is purely for dating purposes. Sending luck and love to you! ❤️

seaduck · 24/01/2020 10:09

@Happythecrocodile the nurses at EPU said if you're emotionally ready then just go for it, the only reason to wait is to make it easier to date.
I was hoping to go for it, but I can't seem to find the energy to actually do any "trying". Maybe I'm not as ready as I hoped.

Michette · 24/01/2020 11:34

Hello to new joiners 👋

@happythecrocodile Some doctors advise to wait for a period some two periods some three months and some say to go for it when you feel physically and emotionally ready.

Personally DTD kind of helped in the “healing process” emotionally and the goal of trying again gave me hope (although the month wasn’t successful). But just make sure your MC is complete before starting as i think i got an infection because of sex when not complete...
But i think each and every person is different...

So i have been reading mumsnet and googling (bit too much) about aspirin to avoid MC.
And as some maybe recall i went to the GP who advised against self medicatinf unless you have a diagnosis of clotting disorder as it may otherwise be counterproductive and cause birth defect (some heart thing in fetus?)

But they also wouldnt do any blood test because it’s my first MC.

So went to have private blood test done and everything was fine. Nothing suggest i have any blood disorder that aspirin would fix in early pregnancy....

Part of me is happy but i also would have liked to find a way to avoid another MC.

Guess will just have to trust Mother Nature.

Blush
Happythecrocodile · 24/01/2020 12:35

Thank you all for the advice. I haven’t actually spoken to my gp yet as I’ve just seen my hcg results online so I will ask him but I think we will try again soon.
@seaduck, I’m the same, I feel ready and want to start trying but finding it hard to find the enthusiasm to DTD. But as @michette says perhaps we just need to get back on the horse 😉 to focus on ttc and try to move on from mc.

@michette good news that your blood test was fine. Not sure when your mc was but I read somewhere that pregnancies within 6 months of mc are less likely to result in another mc, that thought is giving me hope at the moment Smile

babysunshine · 25/01/2020 07:12

Hi new to the thread. I haven't been on here since I miscarried naturally 26 Nov, fairly early miscarriage where a baby hadn't actually developed, It didn't happen until after I thought I was 12 weeks though.

It took 6 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test (7 Jan although I only tested once a week) after that which seemed like a lifetime. During that time we were TTC.

@Sparkl my AF came about 2 Jan but was very light on and off, some days no bleeding other days there was. This lasted a week and a half. I was expecting it to be heavier than normal but no.

I've been doing Clearblue digital tests and had a flashing smiley face for 8 days now (had a negative 3 days before I started and then didn't test for 2 days) I've used them before and had longest 7 days before getting the solid face so not sure what's going on will just keep doing them. We've been DTD every other day.

I'm just worried that I won't ovulate now and my body isn't actually back to normal from the miscarriage 😫 Nov seems so long ago now it's coming up to Feb.

It's quite hard to get my head around that my body has been affected so much by the pregnancy when the baby hasn't even developed.

babysunshine · 25/01/2020 07:13

@Sparkl I was thinking maybe I would have got the solid smiley face at the beginning on the first day like yourself but didn't test that day 🤦🏼‍♀️

seaduck · 26/01/2020 11:05

Hi @Michette @happythecrocodile so had a go at trying and can confirm it's got me out of a bit of a rut with thinking about the mc and feeling a bit more enthused about trying again. I am 14 days past the sac passing so I'm guessing I could be ovulating around now if what somebody earlier said further up on the thread is true. I have never used ovulation predictors before, just gone off my pretty clockwork cycle, and it's probably too late this month to start now. Now I am obsessing about whether I could be pregnant off my one attempt Grin.

TerribleImagination · 26/01/2020 11:12

So I’m back on the Clearblue advanced this cycle (first full cycle since miscarriage) and I’m CD12 today and STILL the blank circle!! I’ve got EWCM and I’ve never had blank circles at this stage when using them before... I did start CD8 this time, instead of CD7 like I usually do, but I was expected the flashing smiley by now! Last time I used them (when we conceived) I got my static smiley CD12! Very confusing... Has anyone else had lots of days of the blank circle??!

I’ve been cracking on DTD every other day since CD8 anyway, but just confused!

Hey ladies :) I was on the Januaty thread but AF arrived for me this morning 🙄🙄

Going to take a bit of a step back this month from MN, OPKs, temping etc.etc but I will still pop in occasionally throughout the month so wanted to mark my place on the thread :)

shhhhs · 26/01/2020 12:33

@terribleimagination so many websites say it takes a few cycles for things to return to as they were before, frustrating but maybe your cycle will be a little longer for a month of two. Hope ovulation happens soon for you 🤞

BS9790 · 26/01/2020 13:42

@Michette, how did you diagnose an infection after MC? I'm sure I have one, but gp doesn't seem to be taking me seriously Hmm
I've had 2 weeks of my lower abdomen/pelvic area feeling sore deep inside. It's sore when I move and DTD was sore, so much we haven't done it for 2 weeks as it put me off 😬
UTI has been ruled out.... Not sure what to think!

Southy84 · 26/01/2020 14:16

Sorry I went quiet for a few days. Thanks to everyone who offered advice. I ended up back in hospital and a scan confirmed that I had retained products following miscarriage and the d&c, it’s finally easing now. They had to do medical management, so I don’t think I’ll be ready to ttc for a while, but I will stick around to cheer you all on though x

ELM7 · 26/01/2020 14:23

Hi ladies joining you in here as Jan was t my month unfortunately. Hope Feb is the month for us all.

@BS9790 I had an infection after MC and they did a swab to diagnose it. Keep
pushing with Drs if you feel something isn’t right.

BS9790 · 26/01/2020 15:26

@ELM7 she basically just said if there was no "unusual discharge" then I didn't have an infection anywhere. But hasn't a clue what it is Confused. The pains started about 9 days after my MC bleeding ended and are still there 2 weeks later.
Get various blood results back tomorrow, so if they come back negative I will push for a swab to be done!

Michette · 26/01/2020 17:43

@BS9790 they examined me and the pain just going near was excruciating and i had this throbbing sharp pain on one side that was keeping me awake Also had discharge in addition to MC blood that smelled like death and i am not exaggerating... horrible.

They also did a blood test and they was obviously an inflammation/infection...

Other people are right though you should push and say you know something is not right

The antibiotics and pain killer saved me honestly do i hope they give it to you too

Moominmiss · 26/01/2020 18:01

Hi everyone, and so sorry to all of you that have experienced or currently going through a loss.
Little bit of my story...I’m 37 and have 3 children (9, 7, 5).
No longer with their dad but have been with my current partner for 2 years. I came off the pill at the start of September 2019 and we started ttc.
I don’t chart or temp etc. We just dtd when we want (which is a lot anyway).
I got my bfp on 25th November 2019 and we were over the moon.
Unfortunately on 18th December I started lightly bleeding. Had multiple scans where there was a visible pregnancy and over the course of the following 2 weeks it even had significant growth. But no heartbeat ever became visible. Finally on 1st January I miscarried naturally at home suffering the most horrendous contraction like pains for 3 hours before passing the pregnancy.
My bleeding had stopped completely by the very next day.
My doctor had said we could begin ttc as soon as I felt ready.
So we did. We’ve been dtd as normal ever since. But in all honesty probably not enough this month.
I’ve no idea when af is due, I’ve no idea if or when I ovulated (the only thing I noticed was some ewcm on 13th).
I’ve tested the last 2 days, and today and all bfn so confident I’m out this time.
Just need af to show so I can start my next cycle and ttc properly. I feel slightly nauseous but think I may be coming down with something.
Sending hugs and lots of luck to all of you xx

TerribleImagination · 27/01/2020 08:13

@shhhhs Yeah you’re so right, it makes sense for things to take a while to go back to normal. I think I sometimes forget just how much our bodies go through with a miscarriage! I got a flashing smiley this morning... finally! Yeay! So at least things are going in the right direction now 🙂

@terribleimagine exciting!! 🤞 I still have no idea where I stand with ovulation, very frustrating, always waiting for something with all this TTC malarkey! Xx

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 27/01/2020 09:15

You lot are amazing. We all have our own sad story to tell and support each other brilliantly. Thanks everyone for being wonderful and welcome to our new ladies, I'm so sorry to find you here, but its a good place to talk.
Ps that poem made me cry and I thought I was 'over it'.
I'm now cd25 from my MC with no AF since. No idea if or when I ovulated or how long this cycle would have been. I have lots of symptoms and no line. Doubting myself so much but I can't even wear a bra now, my boobs are so sore, so I MUST be pregnant surely? And then when I get that line I will feel so mixed. Happy but terrified. Do I tell people this time so I have support if it happens again? No idea.
