My GP is sending IVF referral form off however the fertility consultant we saw at the hospital wants us to have the HSG first.

We don’t have time on our side though as I will be 35 in the summer. I’m slightly anxious that the HSG and referral won’t be completed in time.

What sort of pre ivf diet have you been recommended. I’ve been TTC for 2 years and initially I didn’t drink but after a while I just decided to have a glass or two if I fancied it. So hard to not let it all take over life completely isn’t it.

Please message if you are overwhelmed and we’ll help each other through this. It’s hard for others to understand isn’t it.

I’ve just bought a his and hers ivf book which is very easy to read and useful. Xx

FlapJackered · 31/12/2019 15:56

Thanks @UncleBrynsfishingtrip ❤️ it is a very hard, isolating experience.
Hopefully once you have the hsg things will move quickly for you, 35 is definitely still young in terms of ivf.
I have been off alcohol, sugar, cows dairy, gluten. So boring!!

PineappleC · 01/01/2020 14:42

@RosettaR oh I see! Yes I'm also going to trust the clinic on whatever they feel is best. This is our one NHS go, so I kinda feel they will be doing all they can for the best chance of success (Not that a private clinic wouldn't, but NHS seem to have stricter criteria). Looking forward to getting started now! 😊

@FlapJackered that's exciting that yours is starting so soon. Sorry to hear about your BFN, I know what you mean about hoping one last time for a natural pregnancy. I am stupidly doing the same (the clinic kept saying last week about how great my lining was, and how I'm ovulating well, and i think I'm catching on their enthusiasm, whilst knowing realistically that our issue is nothing to do with these things as its MFI 😂). Anyway, at least this time once AF starts there is lots to look forward too 😊

@UncleBrynsfishingtrip welcome! I love your username too!

FlapJackered · 03/01/2020 20:22

First injection done! 💪🏻
Worked myself up but it was totally fine and didn't hurt at all.

How is everyone getting on? X

FlapJackered · 03/01/2020 20:24

@PineappleC that sounds really positive though that all is great with you! I am in the same boat with MFI so hopefully that will bode well for success for us🤞🏻

KatBeCool · 04/01/2020 10:05

@FlapJackered hooray on managing the first injection! I don't know how you can avoid sugar, gluten, and dairy. I'd be a miserable heinous bitch. They do say though that full fat dairy is good for your lining.

@UncleBrynsfishingtrip Christmas as though as BIL and SIL brought their baby who's 7 months old and they certainly like to rub it in that they have one (they weren't even trying when she got pregnant).

Another friend just announced they're expecting their second, took them one month to conceive each time. Seriously... Brings me down so much hearing that.

RosettaR · 04/01/2020 12:03

So I decided to delay the ivf until after my medical appointment on 15 Jan, which is about some new symptoms I've been having, possibly related to an existing medical condition. The idea of starting the ivf without knowing whether they were going to want to do more tests or put me on medication was making be really anxious. If they are happy I will book on with my next cycle and start the down reg in February. I hope it's the right decision, and I hope they don't want to do anything too long and drawn out.

It has made me realise anxiety is going to be an issue for me, I get anxious about health issues anyway and with ivf it's like it's so much more important to stay healthy! Any tips out there for staying calm??

I'm with you @KatBeCool we've had some serious baby bombs this week. People who started trying when we did and now their babies aren't even looking that little any more! Things just seem to happen so easily for so many people, it feels so unfair.

@FlapJackered well done on the injection, I'm glad to know it didn't hurt that much!

@UncleBrynsfishingtrip welcome! I hope your hsg comes through soon. The waiting is so hard.

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 04/01/2020 13:12

Good to hear how you are all getting on.
@Flapjackered 👏🏻 Wohoooo! Little celebration for you as getting started must be a huge mixture of emotions.
@RosettaR I hope you get things sorted soon. It’s good they are investigating everything thoroughly.

Can anyone talk me through what happened for you at the start of IVF. Did you see your consultant then straight to teach you how to administer the drugs? The anticipation of it all is huge.

People say to me oooooh you must be excited about starting IVF and no I’m really not. I’m more overwhelmed, frustrated and anxious at the mo.

PineappleC · 04/01/2020 13:35

@FlapJackered wow that was quick! Congrats! How are you feeling after a few days of it? I will probably be about 4 weeks behind you if everything goes to plan, as I start on 28th, assuming AF arrived sometime between 7th and 14th Jan. I'm not sure of the stats on IVF for MFI v F(?)FI, but logic tells me that once ICSI has taken care of the MFI it solves the "issue". I'm probably over-simplifying it, but it's helping me stay positive anyway 😊

@RosettaR Sorry to hear that! I've also had medical anxiety before, it takes practice to stop being anxious, but for me, a good dose of exercise and meditation has helped 👍

@KatBeCool tell me about it! I run to relax and get away from the stress of TTC and at my local parkrun this morning we had to all clap and cheer for the race director who is pregnant. I mean, give me a break! 😅

Nothing to report from me. Cd21 today. Hopefully AF will start soon so I can get going with the pill for IVF!

FlapJackered · 04/01/2020 14:42

@PineappleC so far feeling fine! I have only had one dose though so it is early days.
That logic sounds about right! 🤞🏻

Thanks @UncleBrynsfishingtrip I am actually feeling pretty good about it now I have got started but definitely did feel overwhelmed last week and probably will again!
We had an intro appointment where we just were talked through the process and I was scanned, then a second one to go through the meds and that was it!
Hopefully it all goes quickly for you.

@RosettaR I think you made the right decision to delay, it is not for long and you can then make sure you're in top form to start 👌🏻
I also get very anxious, it has been a bit of a rollercoaster up to starting ivf but now I feel quite zen about it! I am sure that will all change when the hormones kick in!

@KatBeCool thanks lovely! Yes I am a total bitch on the diet! So horrible! Hopefully it will pay off though.

I am so with you on the baby bombs, it doesn't help all of my friends were showing off their newborns this Christmas. 😩

starkid · 04/01/2020 18:07

Babies everywhere!
Good luck to those starting the IVF journey now/soon xxx

Am 1dpo, only managed to dtd once on the day of the positive opk so making sure to dtd today too. It's been a busy week or so with birthday/travelling stuff so didnt put much pressure on this cycle to be honest... never know though

KatBeCool · 05/01/2020 06:44

Just my luck, I'm guessing I ovulated yesterday (ran out of opks to confirm) and now coming down with a cold and can't even take anything for it because it seems like everything can affect implantation, especially the antihistamines. Gonna be miserable few days.

Is anyone still temping? I had to start again to make sure I ovulated, forgot how annoying that is.

RosettaR · 05/01/2020 09:56

@UncleBrynsfishingtrip so the start of ivf for us was an appointment with a nurse at the clinic. She talked us through the whole process and we signed all the consent forms. Then she did a quick scan to check everything looked OK. She also explained how to take the first drug which for us was the sniffer drug for down regulation. And she let us know about any tests we still needed (in our case the hepatitis and hiv blood tests). Then we had to call them on the first day of my period to book on. After that they send you a schedule of scans and when to take the medication, and the drug company will call you to arrange delivery of the medication. That's the stage I didn't get up to!

@PineappleC and @FlapJackered thanks for the support! Possibly I should try a bit more exercise but I am trying to put on weight.

@KatBeCool no I've given up tempting, I'm just doing opks because I want to know when af is coming. Sorry about your cold, have lots of hot drinks!

I'm on cd13 today and I got a negative opk today and yesterday, which suggests I will ovulate later than normal again this month. Last month I ovulated late but my cycle wasn't any longer, so I think my luteal phase has shrunk. Not good as it was short to begin with! I suppose it doesnt matter much for ivf as they give you hormones in any case.

FlapJackered · 05/01/2020 10:07

@RosettaR I have the same issue with the weight, I have just been walking instead. I do miss it though.

@KatBeCool sorry you're not feeling well, maybe try some natural remedies like honey and lemon with hot water?

@starkid it only takes once! 🤞🏻

Mrs71 · 05/01/2020 13:38

Hi ladies. Was just catching up on the thread.

@pineappleC thank you. Still really doesn't seem feel real yet. I have really bad anxiety about it all.

Good luck to you all going through ivf. Hopefully have some more bfp's. xx

FlapJackered · 06/01/2020 07:19

@Mrs71 lovely to hear from you, I hope everything is going ok? I am not surprised about the anxiety, I think I will be a nervous wreck too when it happens.
Just take it day by day. I heard quite a good thing on a podcast to tell yourself 'you are pregnant today' and celebrate and focus on the today xx

Mrs71 · 06/01/2020 21:11

@FlapJackered thank you, I'm ok I've been having some light brown spotting for the last couple of days so feeling so worried. I have a early scan booked at the epu on weds so hoping everything is ok. The worrying never ends. xx

OP posts:
FlapJackered · 07/01/2020 20:21

@mrs71 I totally get the worry, but I have a few friends who had spotting throughout their pregnancy and everything was fine. It is good to get it checked though even just for peace of mind. I will keep everything crossed for you for tomorrow. X

FlapJackered · 07/01/2020 20:24

I had my first scan yesterday and those darn follicles aren't growing fast enough, so they have upped my meds and I have another scan tomorrow morning to see if they have caught up. I will be saying some prayers tonight! 🙏🏻

KatBeCool · 08/01/2020 05:45

@FlapJackered what CD are you? One of my monitored and medicated (although not as heavily) cycles my follicles were taking their sweet time, didn't get to trigger until like CD14. And they upped the meds too. As long as they're growing, that's all that matters.

I'm 3dpo or so, according to FF. My temps did go up on their own so I don't know how the fertility clinic could claim that I'm not ovulating. Even my GP agrees that symptoms don't lie. We dtded just in the right times this cycle so I'm really hoping for a miracle.

How's everyone else doing? I'm losing track of who's doing what and at stage you're all.

RosettaR · 08/01/2020 08:06

@Mrs71 let us know how your scan goes today. Its good that they're doing it if only to give you reassurance.

And good luck @FlapJackered for your scan too!

I'm at CD 16 today and finally had a positive opk yesterday. I am trying to see my ivf delay as a chance to have one more try naturally, so hoping for a miracle!

starkid · 08/01/2020 09:23

@Mrs71 - good luck with your early scan! and @flapjackered with yours, hope the follicles grow :)

Am 5dpo today, only did twice in fertile week so... meh! Next specialist appointment in around 4 weeks time.

Heard something interesting someone I know was advised by their doctor, after trying for 20 months - man to keep testicles cool, so try going commando & wearing loose shorts in the evenings. They got pregnant in the next cycle after doing that :)

FlapJackered · 08/01/2020 11:55

Thanks everyone. Had the scan and the follicles have sprung into action! I have 12 at a decent size, still small but definitely going the right direction. I have another scan on Friday and Monday then it is looking like egg collection on Wednesday next week.
I had acupuncture yesterday and feel so much calmer, I don't know how it works but it definitely does something!

@RosettaR good luck! Fingers crossed for a pre-ivf miracle for you!
@KatBeCool I am only on day 7 today so it is still relatively early days, and because it is mild ivf I think the growth is meant to be more gradual.
That is reassuring to know your temps went up, I will keep everything crossed for you!

Mrs71 · 08/01/2020 18:39

Thank you everyone. All went well brown spotting is due to implantation bleeding which is really common saw bean with a heartbeat 6+5 today.
@FlapJackered glad your scan went well too. Best of luck 💕

I hope we get some more bfp's on this thread very soon x
