Hey Wakemeupwithcoffee all went reasonably well yesterday, they were unable to measure the neck as the baby wouldn't stay still for long enough.
I'm not usually a sensitive person, but the sonographer was very - blunt - and we had to drag information out of her.
It went like this: "I'm unable to measure the neck. You'll have to have bloods done at 15 weeks instead to screen for downs. You'll probably have to wait for 20 week scan for clearer image".
DH asked her for more info about the neck, she then said it was due to the baby not getting in the right position for her to be able to do so. Then I felt a lot better, my first thoughts were that she couldn't see any neck to measure! I enjoyed the experience still, my stomach is covered in bruises today from where the probe was really digging - is this the norm?? I also asked for her to print whatever she felt was the clearest image - you can definitely see the outline of a baby there! So glad I pushed back on that.
After the scan we had to wait to see the midwife team, I was told to come in in 3 weeks anytime between certain hours to do the blood test for Downs...at my midwife appointment this morning (to finish off booking in) apparently this information is all false. They've booked me in (kind of) at a different hospital (they sort of operate as a consortium) which is walking distance from me, and was my request. Nobody in the team would answer the phone in said hospital, the midwife said her colleague does a shift there next week so she will ask her to book me in on the system herself. To be frank, i'm not hopeful.
We're now toying with just spending the £ on a harmony test with scan next week.
Sorry everyone, I hope I don't sound like i'm moaning - we were delighted yesterday and I know its very common not to be able to get a nuchal measurement. I'm just a bit fed up with differing information, being seen ages after stated appointment time, and admin errors (which I won't bore the thread with!).
