Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

I'm sure I can see the faintest of faint lines on an IC this morning. The camera isn't picking it up though so maybe it's my imagination.

Catconfusion · 02/03/2020 07:08

Arh well It could be there @EssJayyCee just very very faint. I hope there’s something more obvious in the next few days. You’re nearly there now at the point it will be detectable. Xx

Xxxx @EssJayyCee hope it darkens !

OrangeJ · 02/03/2020 13:08

@EssJayyCee are your temps still high too? I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Last night the husband of a couple we are really close friends with told my DH that they are trying for their 2nd. I’m over the moon for them but already feel sad at the thought of them announcing they’re pregnancy before us. I know that’s irrational and pretty selfish but just kinda feel down about it 😑 Thinking positively though if we do conceive then I’ve got a really close friend on the journey with.

Just regarding the OPKs, I did read somewhere that they don’t really work for ladies with PCOS as we have weird surges of LH. I did start using them but one minute they’re high, then low, then high, then low again! I’ve not had a peak result on one yet. Attached a photo of when I was doing them in Feb 🤷‍♀️ But my temps are really consistent. I’ve had nearly 6 days in a row of between 36.08-36.17 so kind of why I thought that might work better. Hoping one day it’s just going to sky rocket lol!

@OrangeJ yes it’s a bit trickier with OPKs if pco/pcos as you’re more likely to get a failed ovulation - where your body gears up and it doesn’t happen. So you’ll often get a peak opk and all the other signs. I found though that as much as they pick up failed ones, they actually pick up the real one to so worth doing if it works for you. Quite often I’d get a peak a week after a failed ovulation and the real one would happen.

My baby was conceived on day 32 of my cycle and he’s strong and healthy so don’t give up hope if it’s taking a while to get a peak. The benefits of temping along side is you can double check it’s actually happened because your temp will stay up. Xx

Yes @Orange7 my temps are still high. I even woke up sweating this morning which was a common thing that happened when I was pregnant before.

My boobs are getting so big they are starting to over spill my bra 😟 so I hope it is pregnancy!

I have had this weird pins and needles pain in the side of my right boob a few times today as well and I have never felt it before. It kind of hurt a little bit.

I am at work so will reply to other part of message later 😘 x

@OrangeJ I agree with @Catconfusion regarding the opk ; I think they are useful but I prefer using them together with temping as temp can confirm whether ovulation actually happened. I also had several almost positive opks and then nothing for days before another surge when ttc my son.

Catconfusion · 02/03/2020 14:34

@EssJayyCee your chart is looking so good! 🤞 xx

This is the IC from this morning. I'm not sure if it's just an evap though. (Picture was taken in the time frame)

I've taken one since I came home with a 4 hour hold but it is stark white so maybe I am imagining it all.

@OrangeJ Exactly what @CatConfusion said about the OPK's.

I never got on with OPK's before I just tracked my temperature.
But after miscarriage I wanted to see if it had reset anything and opks actually worked for me this time.
Just do what you think works for you.

Catconfusion · 02/03/2020 19:17

@EssJayyCee I can definitely see a shadow or something. Hcg concentrations can change as the day goes on this early so totally possible to get a negative with a different sample. Fingers crossed for tomorrow! xx

@Catconfusion I am so hopeful and excited but so freaking nervous at the same time!

I have so many things going on in my body that I think are pregnancy related. So I am hoping so hard!

I wish a strong line would appear if it is going to! 🤔🤞🏻

OrangeJ · 02/03/2020 20:26

@Catconfusion @Ellabb @Avocuddles @EssJayyCee thanks for the advice ladies. I’ll order a bulk of OPKs and keep testing 😊 I’m CD30 today so hopefully I get some positive ov signs soon 🤞

Ellabb · 03/03/2020 04:27

@EssJayyCee I can see something too, sounds promising ! Hope you get a darker one today !

EssJayyCee · 03/03/2020 05:50

BFN this morning 😭
I don't think it's going to be this cycle.

Catconfusion · 03/03/2020 09:43

I’m so sorry to hear that @EssJayyCee xx

Oh so sorry @EssJayyCee

Catconfusion · 04/03/2020 07:40

How are you doing today @EssJayyCee? Hoping you’re ok! Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 05/03/2020 09:59

@Catconfusion I am feeling terrible in all honesty.
I am either 12 or 14dpo today and still no sniff of a bfp I'm out I know I am but something inside is still making me cling on to hope.

I am miserable and stressed and tired with life.
I am worried I am slipping into a depression. Some of my thought processes are scaring me and I don't know how to cope anymore.

Catconfusion · 05/03/2020 11:01

@EssJayyCee I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. Please know this is normal after a pregnancy loss and when trying again. Your hopes get dashed and it makes you feel very low. I can’t say I know exactly how you feel because I don’t but I do know last year I was rock bottom. The hormones from AF don’t help and they may still be a bit disrupted from the pregnancy.

Please speak to your GP if the feelings are getting scary and open up as much as you can to your partner and family. You’ve had a significant trauma and those around you will want to support you through this. Some counselling may help too.

What I can say is with time it gets easier. It took me a few months but before we conceived this baby I was feeling much more like myself and my mindset was much better. I got to the point where I was ok with the outcome either way.

Anyway hopefully this thread can help support you too. Xx

OrangeJ · 05/03/2020 12:38

Oh @EssJayyCee 😢 is there anyone you can talk to about how you’re feeling? It is still early though for something to show on a non-early detection isn’t it? Flowers 🤗

EssJayyCee · 05/03/2020 15:22

There is no point going to the GP they can't help me. And I am no good at talking about how I'm feeling. It's pointless. Everything is pointless.

The thing that's pissing me off most is I keep getting evaps/indent lines within the time frame.

Trying for a baby it that stressful it's making me not even want one anymore.

I saw my 2 week old niece last night and I just felt so annoyed and I didn't even want to hold her.

I am broken.
So so broken.

Catconfusion · 05/03/2020 16:01

@EssJayyCee it’s such a difficult time for you and must have been so hard to see your niece. You don’t have to hold her or see her if it’s too hard.

If your feelings are scaring you the GP might be able to prescribe you something to help in the short term.

I’m sure seeing evaps really hasn’t helped either. Do you think you could take a break for a few weeks and just do some nice things with your partner to distract you? A break could really help with how you’re feeling.

You may feel broken but just remember life can change very quickly. You are stronger than you think and you’ll get through this! Xx

EssJayyCee · 06/03/2020 11:31

AF is here. I knew she would be soon.
At 13 or 15 DPO.

Avocuddles · 06/03/2020 11:48

@EssJayyCee sorry to hear that but try to take some comfort that this is a new cycle, and it's really positive that you did appear to ovulate this cycle. All you can do for now is just try to look after yourself and do whatever it is that makes you feel happy and relaxed.

Touch wood my current pregnancy is looking ok, it was conceived four months after my second miscarriage I do genuinely believe that the fact that we'd stepped back a bit from TTC (and actually took two months off entirely) did help me to approach this pregnancy in a way where I felt in a better place both physically and emotionally than when I conceived for the second time. Try not to see this month as a failure, but as an opportunity for your body to keep healing and becoming more ready for what will hopefully be a full term, uncomplicated pregnancy for you. I really hope you see a BFP soon!
