Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

FF has changed its mind on when I ovulated. What's your opinion?

@EssJayyCee I’d be inclined to think it was where ff originally thought. You had very stable temps and then up it went. The algorithm is sometimes wrong and doesn’t do as well if temps are a bit unstable. Hoping it is wrong as it increases the wait!

EssJayyCee · 25/02/2020 12:55

@Catconfusion I discarded yesterdays temp because I am pretty sure it was due to broken sleep.
I woke up at 3 last night too so I took my temp then instead of waiting until 5 when I get up properly.
Hoping it will continue to stay up for the next few days.

I feel like I'm out this cycle though so I am trying not to get my Hope's up.
Trying to drown out the symptoms I feel like I keep getting.

Catconfusion · 25/02/2020 18:16

Hey @EssJayyCee I used to do that if I woke up.

This chart I found on FF reminds me of yours and they got a bfp so don’t give up.

Thank you @Catconfusion that's given me a little bit of hope.
Its hard to feel positive about it.

I hope you're okay?
Sorry. All I seem to do is ramble on about myself all the time!

Catconfusion · 25/02/2020 19:05

@EssJayyCee it’s ok, you’re bound to be anxious at the moment and it’s why we’re all on here, to support each other. I know how difficult it is to cling onto a bit of hope but try not to get your hopes up in case it’s not good news.

I’m ok thanks. Had a scare yesterday as I thought my waters were breaking at 33 weeks so went to hospital for monitoring. It was ok and everything looks good. Honestly the worry never ends! xx

EssJayyCee · 25/02/2020 20:47

@Catconfusion yeah. I'm definitely not going to get my Hope's up too much. It's not worth it.

If I am pregnant this cycle hopefully I will start feeling something substantial in the next few days. If not I will expect AF in a week or so!

Bless you. Make sure you relax plenty! It's good everything looks okay xx

EssJayyCee · 26/02/2020 06:11

My bloody temps are so unstable.
Im definitely out.

Catconfusion · 26/02/2020 08:19

@EssJayyCee how is it looking today? Is it a big drop? I’m sorry to hear it’s looking inconsistent! Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 26/02/2020 11:26

Yes it's quite a big drop but still above coverline.
I don't know if I could have had my mouth open last night because my nose has become blocked.. but would it make that much of a drop?

Am I just trying to find excuses for why it's happening?

I thought everything was going so well considering the positive opk and ewcm that I don't usually get but apparently my body is just a massive fail!

Sorry forgot to tag you @@CatConfusion.

So frustrating!

Catconfusion · 26/02/2020 12:40

Oh no @EssJayyCee it’s so difficult to know what’s going on. I have to say this is where OvuSense was a Godsend because I wasn’t worrying about external factors influencing the temperatures as internal is more reliable. Keep us posted. I hope it shoots up tomorrow! Xx

EssJayyCee · 26/02/2020 13:06

@CatConfusion I found a chart online that had up down temps the whole way through after Ovulation and ended up with BFP so I suppose there is still hope.

But lack of symptoms is making me believe nothing is going on in there anyway.

I would do ovusense but it's so expensive and I just haven't got the money to buy it. Also I probably wouldn't sleep because I'd feel weird having it in.

EssJayyCee · 26/02/2020 13:07

Also, looking back I was up and down with last pregnancy.

Avocuddles · 26/02/2020 13:56

@EssJayyCee I was temping when I fell pregnant for the second time and my charts were all over the place too so try not to get too hung up on it. That's one of the reason I gave up on temping as I realised it wasn't adding any value for me, but know that some people do swear by it!
I'm pretty sure I didn't ovulate at all the first two cycles are my second miscarriage so try not to get too hung up on pinpointing a definite ovulation spike for now. It's so frustrating not knowing what is going on with our bodies, I envy so much those who have really regular, 'normal' length cycles!

Catconfusion · 26/02/2020 18:22

@EssJayyCee OvuSense definitely isn’t for everyone. The cost is an issue. I knew I’d be tracking the the run up to our wedding for a few months to see what was going on so with the miscarriages after I got a good year out of it. Was about £150 for a year I think with a discount code I had. They do monthly plans too. Honestly got so used to it I didn’t feel it. But hopefully you’ll get a bfp soon and not need any more monitoring.

It’s definitely possible to have unstable temps and get a bfp. Hang on in there! Xx

Hi ladies! Can I join please?

We started TTC (very lazily) in December. Been with my hubby since school, I’m now 30 and we’re finally ready for a baby! I stupidly thought it would happen so easily as you go so long trying to stop it from happening!

I have pretty irregular cycles from 30-100 days Shock so never know when I’m due, ovulating or whatever. I had an ultrasound a few years back and they said I had cysts. I didn’t realise I was meant to make a follow up appointment with the doctor myself, so never went back for a formal diagnosis, but with the scan and my mum having PCOS too I assume I do. (I also have a great 5 o’clock shadow, but am a size 10).

I’ve recently started taking myo-inositol as heard great things about that so keeping my fingers crossed I start getting regular AFs in a few months. Oh and started temping last week too.

We’re not telling anyone we’re trying and have always pretended to friends that we don’t want children as I’ve never wanted to people asking how it’s going, when are you going to have children etc. so it’s nice to be able to share with people here Smile

God, sorry for the essay!

Catconfusion · 26/02/2020 22:10

Hey @OrangeJ welcome to the thread. Honestly don’t worry about writing lots. It’s good to hear about you.

My advise would be to see the doctor for some blood tests. I have pco rather than pcos so a history of cysts but normal hormone levels. Inositol is a great thing to try and it may work for you. Unfortunately for me it made my cycles worse so I wonder if it’s because my blood hormones are normal. A blood test will be the key to how severe your pco/pcos is. My mum and sister both had it too so it is highly hereditary, although mine is milder than theirs.

I’m 40 now and 33 weeks pregnant with my first baby. My pcos has definitely got better with age and they cysts cleared up. Still had irregular cycles but in the end it didn’t take too long to conceive unfortunately after two losses but I’m grateful to be weeks away from meeting baby boy.

Anyway ask away if you have any questions. Hopefully we can help! Xx

I need your opinion @Catconfusion
I woke up at 2.45am and took my temp... 36.37° I fell back to sleep straight away and woke up properly at 7am which is 4 hours sleep later and my temp is 36.98°
Which one would you record? 🤔

Its most likely the first one because I just know my body has failed again.

EssJayyCee · 27/02/2020 10:56

I've just remembered I woke up at 1.15 last night as well. So maybe that 2.45 temp isn't reliable.

Should I discard today's again?

I wish I could stop temping but it's become a huge part of my life I don't think I could stop.

Catconfusion · 27/02/2020 11:40

I’m not 100% @EssJayyCee but I suspect you can go with the morning one since you had at least 4 hours and it’s when you usually record. It’s really hard not to get fixated on temps but it can get so stressful. I got to the point I was worried the lack of sleep was affecting my ovulation. The cycle I conceived I wasn’t really looking at the temps because we were really busy. If you haven’t got a Bluetooth thermometer I’d recommend it as it will upload without you needing to look at it. I’d then try and put it out of your mind and maybe look every couple of days.xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 27/02/2020 12:47

I really thought my body had done it this cycle. But who was I kidding?
I can't wait to get this stupid 6 months out of the way so I can hopefully make some real progress with getting our baby.

I am so sick of all the stress that comes with it.

Catconfusion · 27/02/2020 12:58

@EssJayyCee I can imagine it’s really tough. You will get there though even if it doesn’t feel like it now. How would you feel about not temping and just keeping regular bd up? I think the problem with irregular cycles is you’d have to keep up regular bd for at least 4 weeks to ensure you’d caught O and then there’s no guarantee I even happened. It’s a famed if you do damned if you don’t situation. In my case I worked really hard at not letting tracking affect my mental health. It was too unnerving to just let it play out. If you can find a way to record temps without having to focus too much on them it might help. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 27/02/2020 13:17

@CatConfusion Regular bd isn't that useful to us because of DP hips and it ends up feeling like a chore and then we both stop enjoying it so much.

I actually want to give up with everything.
I am a mess mentally and physically with the whole process so I think we just need to stop.

We clearly aren't destined for a happy ending because everything we do, ttc related or not something else gets in the way. Something ruins it. EVERY SINGLE TIME. without fail.

I'm done.

Catconfusion · 27/02/2020 16:53

Oh @EssJayyCee try not to give up hope. This is so challenging for you both and frustrating too. I’m not sure ladies with regular cycles really how difficult it is for us. It just drives you crazy trying to figure out when to try. The arthritis is definitely a complication. If it’s feeling too much you could stop the temping and do a test if no AF in a week or so. Just know you’re not alone and many have a long road to starting a family. One day you’ll look back and see this challenge was all part of the journey to something wonderful Xx
