Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Catconfusion · 21/04/2019 21:24

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

I'm not sure if I may have ovulated on sunday.
My temp dropped low and I've had 2 rises one big and one small since.

I didn't do an opk on friday or saturday but on sunday it was dark but not positive so I wondered if maybe it was dark because it was coming down from the surge.

I had a sharp pain one of the days too I can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday though.

I also had ewcm with a tiny blood streak Saturday night and sunday morning so maybe that was ovulation related.

I think I'm being too optimistic.
Hoping for continued temp rises over the next few days 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Catconfusion · 11/02/2020 09:23

@EssJayyCee it’s definitely possible by the sounds of it. Did your temperature stay up? xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 11/02/2020 09:35

@Catconfusion It's stayed up this morning yes.
Keeping my fingers crossed it stays up tomorrow as well, but I am getting up earlier tomorrow so I think I will drop because of the timing.

I don't think I will get a very good cover line if I did ovulate because my temps previous are all over the place.

Catconfusion · 11/02/2020 11:03

@EssJayyCee that’s great news then. Fingers crossed for you. Just keep as busy as you can until you know more. The waiting is so gruelling! xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 11/02/2020 13:08

I hate waiting so much it's the worst part.
I hope I'm right. If it was ovulation. I ovulated the same cycle day as when I got pregnant..

My SIL is about to pop any day now. I am so excited for her but worried how my emotions will be with the whole process..

I have my appointment tomorrow. I really don't know what to expect. I think I am kind of expecting the worst.

How are you doing @Catconfusion?

Catconfusion · 12/02/2020 09:24

@EssJayyCee that makes it more likely if a pattern to it. How are things today?

It’s difficult to say how you’ll feel when sils baby comes. I felt suddenly very sad when my best friends baby came but little did I know a week later I’d fall pregnant. Just remember life can change very quickly.

Good luck with your appointment today. I really hope you can put a plan in place with the consultant.

I’m struggling a bit if I’m honest but thanks for asking. I’ve been diagnosed with excess Amniotic fluid so my tummy is huge. Baby is ok but it does put me at risk of premature birth and complications. He’s a very big baby too! I’m not complaining as I’m very lucky and excited to meet him but pregnancy can be scary and tough! xx

Girls, I am so excited ! I have a positive opk today ! This means I can actually ttc ! My first cycles will probably be a mess due to still bf but now I have a chance to try !

@EssJayyCee keeping my finger crossed for the tww !!

@Catconfusion yes pregnancy can be stressful !! I hope you and your baby will not have to go through prematurity !

@Avocuddles hope you are ok and not too sick !

EssJayyCee · 12/02/2020 12:26

@Catconfusion My temp dropped today but I was up earlier than usual so it could have been that. But knowing my luck its because I didn't ovulate.

Oh bless you, hopefully he won't be too premature if he does come early. Whatever happens you will have your perfect little boy at the end of it all.

Thank you! I am getting so nervous now Sad
I really hope they don't turn me away.

Good luck @Ellabb!!

EssJayyCee · 12/02/2020 17:32

So.. we have to try again naturally for 6 months.
In 3/4 months I need to book an appointment for my tubes to be checked because they can't prescribe any medication until I've had that test.

It's annoyed me because the first doctor we saw said I wouldn't need the tube checking procedure if I ovulated. Which I did. But anyway.. that's the plan now. So just got to relax and hope for the best for the next 6 months.

Wish me luck 😟

Catconfusion · 12/02/2020 18:18

Hey @EssJayyCee it’s a shame they’re not willing to progress with treatment before the tubes are checks. I guess at least you’ll know both sides are clear. Apparently this procedure can make you very fertile after. I really hope you get some luck soon! Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 12/02/2020 21:30

@Catconfusion yes it is a bit annoying... but like you say at least I will then find out if any of my tubes are blocked.

That sounds promising Haha.. extra fertility is always a bonus!

Even after not receiving the news I wanted I am still feeling surprisingly optimistic and positive. I feel relaxed because I'm still under the radar for help and there is something comforting about knowing I can infact get pregnant 😊

I have just been looking back at my past few cycles.. and I'm not 100% sure but I think I may have had an early miscarriage the cycle before... there is an almost similar pattern to my temps for both cycles.

And when AF came the cycle I fell pregnant I had the same cramps I had when I miscarried. Nothing like my usual AF cramps which are usually mild if there at all..

I may be trying to find hope in a dark hole but it has made me feel extremely positive some how.

HLW092 · 12/02/2020 21:54

Hi all,
Hope it’s okay to join.
I came off the pill in April 2019 & have been TTC since. Had a withdrawl bleed then no period until the end of December.
Now CD46 into next cycle.
Finding it extremely frustrating never knowing what’s going on 😔

Ellabb · 13/02/2020 06:25

@essjayycee it is so annoying that the two dr are not consistent, you could have had this checked before 🙄 well a-t-il least you are being taken care of ;

Catconfusion · 13/02/2020 08:04

@EssJayyCee did they say anything about low progesterone? It's just it if you think you may have had very early losses before it could be your body isn't producing enough progesterone. It would fit with the inconsistent temperatures after ovulation as it needs to be a strong consistent raised temperature.

I'm so glad you're in a good frame of mind. It really does make a difference getting some help as you probably feel like you're moving forwards. I'm confident you'll be fine next time you fall pregnant. xx

Hey @HLW092 and welcome, of course you can join. It sounds like your body is still trying to recover from the pill. What were your periods like before the pill? Is there a chance its PCO/PCOS? xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 13/02/2020 13:32

@Catconfusion I did ask about it and she said the progesterone levels of my last hormone profile were fine.
It seems no one wants to address my concerns of low progesterone.

We will see what the future brings. My temp went up again this morning but only half way up to where it was the other day so I'm not sure I've ovulated still.

I want AF to hurry up so I can start on a fresh slate.

HLW092 · 13/02/2020 17:50

@Catconfusion thank you!
Tbh i’ve never ever been regular.
They thought I may have PCOS but scan was clear. Hormone test was a bit up & down (at the GP not sure what they were testing for) been referred for further tests which should be April time x

EssJayyCee · 17/02/2020 13:59

Hi @Catconfusion and @Avocuddles
I hope you're both okay?

Avocuddles · 17/02/2020 15:39

Hi @EssJayyCee I'm good thanks. 8 weeks today and have another scan in a weeks time so nervously trying to keep going until then.
How are you? All I can advise is just keep at it. After two losses I'm now the furthest I've been without any issues, so I'm desperately hoping that it's third time lucky. Losses between 6 and 8 weeks are apparently most likely due to chromosomal issues so if this was the case nothing could have changed the outcome of the previous pregnancies. Hopefully your experience was also a one off and the next one will bring you your rainbow baby....

Catconfusion · 18/02/2020 08:14

Hey @EssJayyCee I’m hanging in thanks. My tummy is huge and I’m having tests to see why baby is so big. He’s probably over 6 pounds now and I have 8 weeks to go so looking like 10/11 pounds at the end. I’m hoping he can come early as I’m finding walking tough now. How are you feeling now after your appointment? xx

@Avocuddles that’s fantastic news. Your chances are great. As you say the really common chromosomal issues come to a head in the first part of the first trimester. If all good at the next scan you are extremely likely to bring this baby home. I’m so excited for you. It is a long road ahead but those hurdles will become less and less! xx

@HLW092 pco/pcos can be really difficult to diagnose. If hormones levels are affected it’s likely to have it, maybe mildly. Definitely good news your ovaries were clear. Mine used to have cysts and then cleared up as I got older so it can come and go. Fingers crossed for you! xx

EssJayyCee · 18/02/2020 19:27

@Avocuddles Aww it's looking good so far for you! Third times a charm! I am honestly so happy for you!

@Catconfusion Oh bless you, it must be exhausting! Just keep remembering all the pain is worth it in the end.

I am okay, I had a letter from Gynae today which was sent to my GP as well and I'm confused about some terminology.

It says after the 6 months of trying naturally " I may need Augmentation and ovulation induction with clomid".
I understand Ovulation induction but what is Augmentation?
Google was not helpful to me at all.

Catconfusion · 18/02/2020 19:49

Yes @EssJayyCee definitely worth it.

I think the term might mean a combination of drugs so Clomid possibly with something else. They might need something to trigger a period to get you started for example.

All sounds good though. Great they are wanting to get you on some medication. xx

OP posts:
Avocuddles · 18/02/2020 20:12

Hi!

It's promising that you have a clear time line now - I got as far as collecting my ovulation drugs from the pharmacy before I fell pregnant naturally so who knows hopefully you won't need them but it's good to know that there's a fallback plan. I believe ovulation augmentation is the term for improving / increasing the eggs produced by women who do ovulate naturally, whilst induction is about forcing ovulation when it isn't happening naturally. If you call the clinic I imagine they might be able to offer more insight? I had the HyCoSy (tubes test) before they prescribed the meds and many sources claim that the act of flushing out your tubes itself can help aid conception so who knows if that might have helped? I'm crossing everything for you, your history seems very similar to mine and I was losing hope of ever conceiving naturally but it turns out my body isn't quite as broken as I thought. Hopefully you won't have long to wait.....

Diamond94 · 18/02/2020 20:37

Hi ladies
Could i please join? I was wondering what everyone elses symptoms were other than irregular cycles please?

EssJayyCee · 18/02/2020 20:53

@Avocuddles Oh that makes sense. How do they improve eggs? Is there another medication that does that?
It is good to have a clear time line but 6 months feels like a lifetime after already trying for so long. I hope you're right and I will get my rainbow baby soon.

@Catconfusion Yes it is good, but again another 6 months on top of our 19 months feels like forever.
DP is really struggling mentally and physically with his Arthritis :( BD is going to become less frequent I feel so our chances are going to decrease again.

Sometimes I think we should just give up because everything gets in the way.

Catconfusion · 19/02/2020 06:37

Hey @EssJayyCee I can imagine it’s really frustrating when you just want to get started on it. I guess as @Avocuddles said flushing the tubes may help fertility. I know of people who’ve fallen pregnant straight after this.

I too had problems with bd when I was first diagnosed. Mainly because my hip rotation became more and more limited. That was over 10 years ago. I can honestly say my rotation is the worst it’s ever been but it doesn’t affect bd now. I found a lot of the challenge with arthritis is getting used to what you can and can’t do. As a couple it will be tough since you’re trying for a baby but finding positions that help take the strain off his hips will help. Once you get into a routine I’m sure it will improve. Xx
