Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

I have never been so excited to be on my period 😂 So weird but I am so happy about it!

not so excited about the cramps

Catconfusion · 31/07/2019 21:34

Thank you @EssJayyCee for your kind words. I’m testing tomorrow as I need some urgent dental work so I should hopefully know if I am. It’s early at 9 dpo but I need to get booked in as it’s a root canal.

I’m so pleased you have AF and it’s great you’re finally going to get some answers. I would make an appointment as you need some next steps for when you have the results. If it’s raised levels stopping ovulation you need a referral to the fertility clinic as trying naturally is affecting your mental health. Lay it on as thick as you can because you deserve that appointment and further investigation. I’m convinced you could fall very quickly with some help. I really hope you get referred quickly and it’s an easy process! Xxx

@Catconfusion My fingers will be crossed for you!

Don't hesitate to have a rant on here whatever and whenever! If it helps you have a release then just do it :)

I really hope the blood tests show something! If not I will not be any more the wiser!
I'm not very good at twisting the truth but I will do my best to lay it on as thick as I can.
I need answers and I do actually think it is messing with my mental health.

Is a week long enough for blood test results?
I don't want to book an appointment the week after and then they aren't back yet.. should I do it two weeks? (It is best if I can book it for a friday because I am off work.) I don't know what to do!
My work are usually pretty good at letting me go home early so I could get it any day really I suppose. Hmmm. Sorry my complete thought process just came out in my typing 😂

Catconfusion · 01/08/2019 08:05

@EssJayyCee I would book the appointment for a weeks time. I’m not sure what your area is like but mine come back within 3 working days. Just tell it like it is. You want to try but you can’t because you’re not ovulating. Can the doctor suggest something to bring on ovulation. Bear in the mind the bloods might still be normal. Mine have never shown a problem despite crazy cycles my whole life.

So it was a bfn today but only 9 dpo. My sample was very clear though as I keep peeing every few hours. I’m going to wait until Saturday and test again. Feeling a little nauseous but might just be the stress lingering. Xx

@Catconfusion that's what I am worried about.. them not finding anything but surely if I'm not ovulating something should show?
You still ovulate don't you?

I will ask her when I see her. I just hope she has appointments available otherwise I may have to be naughty and book a emergency appointment on the day to see her.

Oh no, still time to get a BFP but try not to be down and negative about it.
Think if the positives of the fact you have ovulated for the first time after you MC's.

Avocuddles · 01/08/2019 17:43

@Catconfusion @EssJayyCee I have numerous bloods taken and as far as I'm aware everything has been 'normal'. I haven't successfully had a day 21 progesterone test as couldn't get the timing right due to not knowing when I'd ovulated - this is one of the reasons I'm charting with opks / temping as if the doctors want to try that again I might at least have a clearer idea of when the right day falls. Hopefully your tests will come back quickly.

@Catconfusion still early days yet. Fingers crossed Saturday will be your day xx

Catconfusion · 01/08/2019 21:01

@EssJayCee yes I do now but didn’t when I was younger. Bloods have always been normal. I saw an endocrinologist. She couldn’t tell my why my cycles were messed up, only that it’s mild pcos. I’ve always had cysts on my ovaries apart from during my pregnancy. If your bloods are normal it’s good news as will be easier to treat. You still should get a referral.

I’m won’t be down, just thinking I have more time to lose weight if it’s a bfn. It’s just been tough being under so much stress at this point.

I did ovulate the cycle after my last mc but had a weird anovulatory cycle before this one. But yes very pleased my body kicked back in. Xx

@Avocuddles thank you so much. It would be lovely but I’m ok if it’s not. We should have our fertility referral soon so hopefully some support. Xx

OMG so I just got a faint positive on a bog standard pregnancy test at 10 dpo. I'm literally shaking and hoping and praying it sticks. I've had such a stressful morning as well so just wish I'd trusted it could just happen. I'm not out of the woods yet but getting a faint line on a not so sensitive test is a good sign. I will test on an FRER tomorrow morning and I think we'll know a bit better then where we stand. xx

EssJayyCee · 02/08/2019 16:07

Oh my god! I am so happy for you @Catconfusion that is amazing news!!
Test again in a couple of days and fingers crossed it will be even stronger! 😁

I've been to have my blood taken this afternoon so that is done now. And got an appointment with my GP but it's not for two weeks 😞 if something shows on my blood tests will they ring and get me booked in sooner? Hmm

AF is super light... normally 2nd day is a bit heavier but it isn't.. something definitely isn't right!

EssJayyCee · 02/08/2019 16:08

Just a thought, when baby sticks will you stick around on this thread or will you move on?

I feel like I need you on my journey! You have helped me so much already!

EssJayyCee · 02/08/2019 16:17

I have been reading about 1-5 day blood tests and it's supposed to include a prolactin test.. but my blood test card didn't have prolactin on it what if they all come back fine but it's actually prolactin that isn't normal.. should I ask about it at my appointment?

Sorry for loads of messages got so much going around in my head!

Catconfusion · 02/08/2019 16:39

Hey @EssJayyCee of course I’ll stick around. If I can help you I will. They should get back to you but I’d call the surgery as well in a few days. I’ve never had a prolactin test but I’d ask about it. I’m so glad things are moving forward. I have no doubts with a bit of help you’ll conceive quickly. Xx

@Catconfusion I'm so happy for you. Early days yet but fantastic that you've got that clear second line so early on. Have you had any early symptoms / have you been charting? x

Catconfusion · 02/08/2019 17:20

Thank you so much @Avocuddles it's so early. The only reason I've been testing is because I need dental surgery. That's probably going to have to wait now. I was amazed to get a line as not an FRER and midday pee after not much of a hole. Hopefully this bodes well for hcg levels. Its a long road as yet. I've felt a bit sickly and been getting up to pee in the night. My boobs are swollen and sore too. I guess the signs were there but I was distracted by the drama I've had with my friend and dental issues. I have been charting. I ovulated on day 32. I'll post my chart when I'm next on my phone. xx

@Catconfusion I envy you and your charts, they look so normal if not a bit long compared to mine. Sad

I don't know what's going on with my body I think AF is stopping already.. it's only day 2... that is stupidly short and it's been really light as well..

Catconfusion · 03/08/2019 04:34

Remember @EssJayyCee when I was your age my charts were probably similar to yours. It’s been a long road to this point. I honestly think getting older helps. I’ve heard having a baby does too. I bet if you get some medication to help with O and you have a baby it’ll be easier next time. My Mum has clomid at 25 as she wasn’t ovulating, had my sister. At 30 she had me naturally. My sister was the same with her two. Interestingly my sister has said she gets 28 day cycles at 45 years old. She can feel the ovulation on day 14 so is very fertile despite a history of ovulation problems. You will get there and don’t worry about there being anything majorly wrong, there probably isn’t!

Not sure what to say about AF. Mine only lasted a couple of days before my mcs. Now they’re longer. My doctor said even one day can be normal. Xx

EssJayyCee · 03/08/2019 08:26

@Catconfusion I hope you're right!
Your family seems like a good reason to be hopeful!

Just seems weird because before the pill I was having 7 day AF and on the pill and since I've come off they have been about 4 days and this cycle is even shorter. Hmm

Oh well, just have to wait and see!

You were up early this morning!

Avocuddles · 03/08/2019 09:34

@EssJayyCee if it's any consolation my periods since stopping the pill are no longer than 3 days and very light, but I did manage to get pregnant. That pregnancy unfortunately ended in miscarriage at 7 weeks but it's comforting to know that a short, light cycle doesn't necessarily mean that you're not ovulating....

Catconfusion · 03/08/2019 09:55

I think @EssJayyCee contraception can change periods. Mine have been much lighter since I had the coil. My first pregnancy that ended in mmc had a healthy thickness of lining. Apparently as soon as you conceive it thickens up to support the embryo so you don’t need much to start with.

I’ve been waking up at 3am for the last week needing the toilet. Now I know why. I did another test this morning and it’s a much stronger line and more pink so I’m feeling pretty optimistic. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 03/08/2019 22:37

@Avocuddles oh okay that is slightly more comforting.. but it just seems so different because I was used to long up to 7 day AFs.

@Catconfusion I am so excited for you! Hopefully it will be my turn next! What is your next step?

Catconfusion · 03/08/2019 22:53

I really hope so too @EssJayyCee I’d love to share this journey with you but your time will come and it might be quicker than you think.

We’re just going to see how the ultrasound goes on Wednesday. I’m happy with the line I got today showing progression and I’m already nauseous and tired. If the scan shows a pregnancy sac we’ll book the midwife and 7 week scan. From my last AF I’m technically 6 weeks so we should get an earlier dating scan. I’m actually just coming up to 4 weeks due to late ovulation. It’s very exciting but still early so just taking each day as it comes. I’d rather know is something is wrong so hopefully three scans at 4, 7 and 10-12 weeks should be enough Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 04/08/2019 21:01

@Catconfusion keep us updated!

Well AF is well and truly over.. 2 days of bleeding with spotting either side.

My temps have gone right down to realistic normal pre ovulation temps so maybe this month I could possibly ovulate?

I think I may be being too optimistic but you never know!

I would like to fall pregnant this month as my sister is starting to try in september and I feel if she falls straight away it may kill me inside!

I hope you and @Avocuddles have both had a lovely weekend :) xxx

Catconfusion · 04/08/2019 21:06

Great news about your temps @EssJayyCee and I’ll have my fingers crossed for you. I hope it happens before your sister. It’s always difficult to feel left behind so hopefully you’ll get there first. I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend too. Mine has been mostly feeling a bit 🤢 but I saw my friend who just had a baby. She was amazed how cool I was around a new born considering. Luckily I kept my mouth shut. Xx

Thank you @catconfusion
Oh no not the dreaded morning sickness!

That is one part of pregnancy I am not looking forward to!
Aww I love seeing new born babies! I would have struggled to have kept quiet Haha.

DP and I have promised we aren't going to tell anyone until 8-10 weeks for family and 12 weeks for anyone else.

I can't wait for my time!!
