Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

That’s amazing news for them then. In my experience if I’ve felt there’s been a struggle I’ve dealt with pregnancy news better. It’s probably not fair since no one should have to struggle but sometimes people who fall quickly aren’t grateful.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to tell her you’re happy for them but to not be offended if you take a step back due to your own struggles at the moment. I’m sure she’ll understand if they had difficulties. Xx

@Catconfusion yes I am super happy for them it was just a shock.

I have been to the doctors this morning and my doctor ordered a day 21 blood test for me. Unfortunately I am on day 23.. so will have to wait until next cycle which could be ages away depending how long this cycle lasts.. 😩

Catconfusion · 28/06/2019 13:10

@EssJayyCee I can imagine it was a shock.

A day 21 test checks progesterone and Ovulation. It’s only any good after ovulation and with pcos it’s unlikely to be valid on day 21 so if you haven’t ovulated yet you can still go and have it after you think you ovulated. Xx

I'm just doing what my doctor said and going on day 21 next cycle. I have a feeling I am having an annovulatory cycle again this cycle.

EssJayyCee · 28/06/2019 17:24

I've had a phone call and shes told me I need to go for the blood test within the first 5 days of my cycle now 🤔

Catconfusion · 29/06/2019 08:46

@EssJayyCee the tests early in your cycle are probably be more useful. They’ll be looking for FSH, LH and Testosterone. These are the hormones that are high if you have pcos. Mine came back normal which makes my situation baffling. The day 21 progesterone test is difficult to get. I’ve been told to go in 7 days after I get a sustained temperature rise.

So my last cycle was strange but I’ve had a 7 day AF which is even weirder as they usually last one day. I’m wondering if it’s because my last cycle was anovulatory. Maybe more lining built up. I’m hoping this cycle is more straight forward! Xx

EssJayyCee · 29/06/2019 16:35

@Catconfusion I hope I get some answers.
I'm just a bit worried with the change of day though.. I am on CD24 so AF can come any time from now until Whenever it wants.. but I am on holiday for a week from the 5th july... so if I come on at any time during that holiday I won't be able to go for the blood test until the following cycle. Which could be ages away.

Hopefully your body has had a complete lining change and it reset ready for a more normal cycle. My fingers are crossed for you :)

Catconfusion · 01/07/2019 10:12

Oh no @EssJayyCee I hope you manage to get the bloods done before you go. I think they’ll be really useful for you to understand what’s going on. I hope they are normal but in my case it’s be baffling because not much you can do to righten normal hormone levels. If they are raised there’s a drug called metaformin you might be prescribed. My sister had it and conceived her first one straight away. Not sure if you need a consultant referral for it but I can imagine if your levels are raised you’ll get one. Hopefully all ok though! Xx

I had a positive OPK 3 days ago... did I have a failed O?
Or did I possibly ovulate yesterday? 🤔

I hope you're okay? Hows your cycle looking so far?

Forgot to tag you @Catconfusion

Catconfusion · 04/07/2019 16:59

You temps look quite unstable at the moment. I’m sorry. It’s so frustrating. Opks can be so misleading. I’m trying low carb at the moment and my hormones feel a lot more steady.

I’m cd 13 and I’m using Ovusense but not looking at my chart until Sunday. I’m hoping to minimise stress by only looking once a week. I don’t have a clue what’s happening and I feel much happier. It was my 40th on Sunday and I expected a meltdown but I actually felt ok. I am where I am and it was never the plan to try for my first baby in my 40s but I needed to meet DH first. I feel a lot more optimistic.

Someone I know just lost her baby at 24 weeks and had to give birth. My mmc and mc we’re horrendous but it could have been worse.

I hope we both have better news soon! Xx

@Catconfusion my temps always look unstable.
My whole body is unstable.
Ahh happy birthday for last sunday!
I turn 27 on saturday.

I am glad you're feeling more positive :) being more positive and putting less stress on yourself will hopefully bring good things.

I am on holiday for a week from tomorrow so after my holiday I am going to try and cut out sugar and carbs as much as I can. Not completely but I am going to lower my intake.

Have you ever been offered metformin or clomid?

Catconfusion · 05/07/2019 12:16

It’s so annoying isn’t it @EssJayyCee I have to say my temps are much smoother since I cut out dairy, caffeine and added sugar.

We’re awaiting a consultant appointment so clomid could potentially be a possibility. I usually ovulate on my own so not sure if they’ll suggest we try for a bit longer as the last two cycles I was probably still recovering from the mcs. My pcos is very mild so not sure if metaformin would work. My sister had luck with it with more severe pcos.

Have a lovely birthday and holiday! Xx

Hello @catconfusion
How are you doing??

I may be jumping the gun a bit but I have had a massive temp rise this morning to 36.91 which is the highest I've ever recorded. It jumped from 36.49 so I am hoping with everything I've got that I ovulated 🤞🏻 I hope you are doing ok x

Catconfusion · 13/07/2019 15:37

That’s really good news. I hope this is it for you. What day are you on?

I’m day 20 and had a false alarm over the past couple of days with one spike. I didn’t sleep very well that night or the one after so I’m inclined to think it was not enough sleep. Other than that my temps are much smoother this time. Xx

Day 38.. had a drop this morning but it's still higher than average so still hoping. Only time will tell.
At least your temps are looking smoother. Hopefully things will get going soon x

Catconfusion · 13/07/2019 20:16

That’s looking good still. It could be a fallback rise. I hate all the waiting involved in this. It’s so hard to relax!

I really hope so. One of my best friends had her baby this week and it hit me harder than expected. Fingers crossed for us both! Xx

I feel like with me only getting one chance out of about 4 months I have even less of a chance of conceiving... and my boyfriend has been suffering with a bad hip for months so he quite often isn't in the mood so I feel like our chances are halved again because he can't DTD as often as we need to. It's so bloody hard.

Oh bless you, one day that will be you having the baby. Just you watch! xx

EssJayyCee · 14/07/2019 11:50

My temp went back down again today so looks like the huge rise wasn't anything important.

Catconfusion · 14/07/2019 14:37

Oh no I’m sorry. It simply sucks and isn’t fair that it’s so hard.

I have to say this cycle I’ve tried really hard with diet. I’ve pretty much cut dairy, gluten and sugar. My chart is really smooth. Also on the Zita West Vitafem and DHA tablets. Had boots evening primrose oil liquid as well. Had another drop today so hoping this is it.

Have you had your bloods done yet? Xx

@catconfusion I am starting healthy eating again tomorrow now my holiday has finished.
I have been thinking of cutting those things out but I feel like I'll struggle. What have you been eating?
Meals and snacks?

Not yet, I've got to wait for day 1-5 of my next cycle.. but who know when that will be!

Catconfusion · 14/07/2019 20:32

I honestly think it helps balance the hormones. I mainly eat eggs for breakfast with half an avocado or some dairy free coconut yoghurt with berries. For lunch chicken or salmon salad with beetroot and humus. Dinner is usually meat like pork steak or chicken breast with salad or cauliflower rice. I snack on nuts and seeds. Brazil nuts are good for implantation. It’s tough at first but I’m getting better. Sweet potatoes are ok too but in small amounts. It’s best to keep low carb if possible.

Hopefully you’ll have good news before AF comes! Xx

Thank you, We have done the food shop this week so will try next week at cutting the crap out of my diet.

I am a coffee lover, although I generally have one a day Monday-Friday I am going to try and stop drinking it all together. And drink some kind of tea, I know there are a few that help with PCOS and fertility.. it's just finding the best ones.

I hope I have good news too but I doubt I will!

I really want to get pregnant in the next couple of months so our baby can grow up close in age to my sister-in-laws new baby. Would be perfection if that happened but again... I doubt I will!

Catconfusion · 15/07/2019 09:20

@EssJayyCee Just change what you can. Even small changes can help.

You just never know with PCOS. Things can change very quickly. I really think Ovusense would give you a really good idea of what's going on but I understand its expensive.

I love coffee too. I've switched to decaf and try and avoid some days if I can. Raspberry Leaf tea is nice and good for fertility.

Just hang on in there. Once you've got the blood results you'll know more. You might just get a referral straight away. My sister fell pregnant the first cycle when she saw a consultant and they put her on metformin. xx

I don't like the idea of ovusense. It does look good though.

I have actually just ordered some raspberry leaf tea! I hope it helps some how!

I hope the blood tests do help me some how. Your sister is so lucky! I hope I can be as lucky!
