Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

@Catconfusion I think it's going to be AF.. temp has dropped again and CM is brown today but egg white which is odd..
It will be good to be able to start a new cycle but I'm scared it will end up another long or annovulatory one.

@SleepingStandingup aww bless you. So when is your scan now?

SleepingStandingUp · 22/05/2019 23:31

Sunday

I'd def get back to doc and push to see a specialist, even if just for your periods

EssJayyCee · 23/05/2019 13:19

Hi,
It's AF but my temperatures are still up and down :/

Catconfusion · 23/05/2019 14:07

That's good news @EssJayyCee that you can start again. My temps are erratic during AF. I have to say I can't recommend Inositol enough. It's really smoothed out my temperatures. I am still on flashing smileys so no O yet but it'll be interesting to see when it happens. xx

EssJayyCee · 23/05/2019 23:41

@Catconfusion I have been looking at inositol but I simply cannot afford it.

I think I just need to come to terms with the fact I'm broken and can't have babies because this is certainly how it feels right now.

Catconfusion · 24/05/2019 04:08

@EssJayyCee it is pricy so something to maybe save up for further down the line.

Please don't give up! Your body isn't broken it's just different. I'm sure it wants to make a baby as much as you do. I would see the doctor and explain what your cycle has just been like. You're young and with some help from the doctor you have very good chances of having a baby! Xx

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 24/05/2019 12:51

You're not broken.

You just need help. Nothing wrong with that.

Catconfusion · 24/05/2019 13:06

How are you @SleepingStandingUp I bet you're looking forward to getting some reassurance at your scan! Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 24/05/2019 13:20

I do want to go to the doctors again but I'm so worried they will just tell me I've got to wait longer for them to do anything.
So I just don't see the point in wasting my time.

Catconfusion · 24/05/2019 13:34

I understand @EssJayyCee but if you're not ovulating you don't have a chance. Do you think you've ovulated in previous cycles? Even if you know you have I'd be tempted to say you're not ovulating. It's annoying because there's medication that would help it just getting access to it. Xx

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 24/05/2019 13:48

Don't go and ask for fertility help.
Tell them you're concerned about the erratictic of your periods and want to be referred on for that. If your GP doesn't know how long you've been ttc then add time on if thry ask. But essentially you want to see someone about your periods. The biggest issue with conception is ovulation.

I refused to leave til they made a referral, and I was 21 and single so def not ttc but it got me seen.

Make it clear to the specials it you're ttc (and lie about how long for)

Catconfusion · 24/05/2019 14:02

@SleepingStandingUp completely agree the AF problems you have @EssJayyCee warrant a referral. You'll probably have to wait for an appointment anyway. Just tell them your irregular periods are affecting your mental and physical health. You'd like to see a specialist who can help you figure out what's going on! Xx

EssJayyCee · 27/05/2019 12:57

@catconfusion I think I ovulated the two cycles before the long one.

I'm going to give it a couple more months and see what happens before going to the doctors.

@SleepingStandingUp how did you scan go? X

Catconfusion · 27/05/2019 13:12

That's good news then @EssJayyCee so hopefully this one will be more timely. It's normal to have the odd anovulatory one so good plan to head to the docs if it happens again because you can't be expected to conceive on your own if it keeps happening. Fingers crossed for this cycle. Xx

How did it go @SleepingStandingUp ? Xx

I have looked back at previous cycles and when I have had a long one I have had a short one after, 16 and 18 days. I can imagine they are also annovulatory. So I expecting a short one now as well.

Luckylola12 · 27/05/2019 19:59

Hey all may i join? Feeling very low today =(
Came off the pill last september. Had first af in december. First 2 cycles were 39 days. 3rd was 42 days and this last one has been 57 days! Just feeling really rubbish. Googling too much and now ive got in my head that im not ovulating and its never going to happen!
Sorry rant over! Needed to get it out x

Luckylola12 · 27/05/2019 19:59

Plus this af is super heavy! Even looks like it has small lumps of blood! Sorry tmi!

Catconfusion · 27/05/2019 20:18

@EssJayyCee I'm sorry you're feeling the shorter ones are anovulatory. I guess keep up the temping and see what happens. Xx

Hey @Luckylola12 I'm sorry you find yourself here. It's so frustrating having long cycles when ttc. Are you tracking your temperatures at all? I use Ovusense and find it really good for identifying when ovulation has happened. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 27/05/2019 20:22

@Luckylola12 It's such a pain having irregular periods. My latest was 72 days! It makes it so bloody hard to conceive.
You are more than welcome here, to vent and ramble and talk about anything. We are all in this together x

@CatConfusion I don't know if they definitely are annovulatory but the cycles I did ovulate my luteal phase is 16/17 days so i just feel if my whole cycle is that long then i just don't have the time to ovulate.
I will continue with temping and keep my fingers crossed.
You must be close to ovulation now, are you?

Luckylola12 · 27/05/2019 20:29

@catconfusion thanks! Im going to start temping this cycle (well try!) I always forget to do it lol! I bought loads of cheapy opks to just try this month aswell so fingers crossed i am actually ovulating!

@essjayycee ahh poor you thats a long cycle!! Do you get heavy periods when your cycles are longer? Also did you manage to pick up when you were ovulating?

EssJayyCee · 27/05/2019 21:32

@LuckyLola12 The period I have just had has been really light and only lasted 3 days with spotting for a day either side. On CD6 and no more bleeding which isn't normal for me.. I'm usually bleeding for around 5 days then 2days of brown spotting afterwards.. so not sure what's going on.

I temp, but my temperatures were all over the place and so I don't think I ovulated at all in that cycle.

It is so rubbish and takes its toll on you mentally.

How old are you by the way?

Luckylola12 · 27/05/2019 21:48

@essjayycee is it possible you had implantation bleeding? I dont know much about it but heard its a thing! Im trying not to google, so is it possible to ovulate some cycles and not others?
Im 27 =) been on the pill since i was 16 so cant remember what my cycles were like before!

Catconfusion · 28/05/2019 12:11

Hey @EssJayyCee I'm cd 19 and just had a failed ovulation 😪 I'd had a positive Opk and ewcm then a temp rise but I've now had two dips. It's so frustrating. I'd hoped my Inositol has helped and I'd ovulate nice and early. I worry the cysts will come back and make it even harder. Also DH has started getting performance anxiety around sex. Ttc is just so stressful. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 28/05/2019 13:23

@LuckyLola I did a test the day before my period was due but it was negative. Also my temps haven't risen so that suggests in itself I am not pregnant so I don't think it was implantation.

Yes you can have annovulatory cycles which means you don't ovulate. It is normal to not ovulate every once in a while but I have a feeling for me it's more often that I don't ovulate than when I do..

You're only a bit older than me I'm 27 in July.
I was only on the pill for just over a year so know roughly know what my cycles were like.

I was only put on the pill for my irregular cycles so I believe the pill just covered an underlying problem Sad

@CatConfusion Oh no 😞 is there chance you could still ovulate at a later date in the cycle or is that your only chance?
Is there any way you can calm DH down so he's not putting pressure on himself?

Catconfusion · 28/05/2019 13:40

@EssJayyCee there's every chance I will ovulate later. Last time I have two failed ovulations and the third gave me the temperature rise. It's just frustrating as you know. I started the digital opks but have realised they are useless and a waste of resources. I've got 8 high fertility ones and no peak as of yet. It could be another two weeks until a peak and they work out £1 each just to know the day before if I'm about to ovulate. If I don't use them I won't know until it's happened with temps so it's dtd every other day.

I'm not sure what's up with DH. He's been fine up until now. I think it's all getting to him. I think long irregular cycles really do take their toll. I think I might keep up using Ovusense but not look at the temps. We can then dtd every other day for a week and I'll have a look at my chart and see where we are.

I turn 40 next month and it's just so depressing having unpredictable cycles. I know my time is running out and we'll have less chances due to long cycles. Having sex every other day for weeks on end sounds fun but it's exhausting. Xx
