Is it me or does number 2 seem to take longer to conceive?

@chips4dinneragain oh wow one of each that’s amazing news! Congratulations! My 12 week scan is on 13th aug, feels like it’s been a long wait!

OP posts:
Chips4dinneragain · 02/08/2019 17:20

The wait for the first scan seemed to really drag for me this time too explorers but funnily enough it only seems like yesterday you were sharing your good news.

DD has broken me today, non stop emotional overdrive with meltdowns over every tiny thing, and to top it off she has just woken up from a nap which she doesn't usually have so won't be going to bed until after 9 😭😭

catsandkid · 03/08/2019 19:18

Can I join? AF due ~10th Aug but 99% sure I'm out this month as we didn't decide to try until last week and haven't really dtd at the right time. So just marking my place for next month really... should be in fertile time around 25th Aug so I've got quite a wait!

Wrigleys123 · 03/08/2019 21:41

Glad your scan went well Chips, nice to have one of each!

Not long to wait for your scan Explorers!

Welcome cats, how long have you been trying? Do you have older children?

I'm out as been spotting today, never got to cd34 before apart from when pregnant, so was absolutely convinced it had happened this month, funny how your brain plays tricks!

catsandkid · 03/08/2019 22:07

Wrigley I've got a DS who is almost 3. Next cycle will be our first month trying properly. It took us about 2-3 months with DS but I'm unsure if my cycles are more messed up this time around!

AliBunny · 04/08/2019 09:56

Hi Ladies, do you mind if I join? DD turned 1 a couple of weeks ago and we have been 'not not trying' since March. I'm still BF (only twice a day) and have only had one AF 6 weeks ago. Maybe naively I got excited when I was 'late' this month (was always like clockwork before DD) but I tested yesterday and it was BFN.

We conceived DD on our first proper month of trying so it's new territory here. I guess my hormones are still a bit all over the place with BF still.

I also had a fairly traumatic birth (5 day induction, 4 failed epidurals and a retained placenta and haemorrhage so I ended up with a general anaesthetic, surgery and 3 units of blood transfusion), so I worry that things are a bit messed up 'in there' .. Sad

It's a totally different challenge second time isn't it! ...plus being so much more knackered makes DTD much less spontaneous and frequent!! Blush

Wrigleys123 · 05/08/2019 13:43

Welcome Ali - I've heard you are more fertile after having a baby so maybe it will work in your favour! I had to have a blood transfusion after having my daughter too, was horrible! At least the birth hasn't put you off trying again!

cats hopefully it will be just as quick for you this time!

I've heard from the hospital that I have to wait until December for a gynae appointment, which is a bit of a joke in my honest opinion! Maybe it'll happen by then naturally but I'm not too hopeful at the moment.

waves to everyone else!

Wrigleys123 · 12/08/2019 09:51

How is everyone doing? Good luck for your scan tomorrow Explorers

Explorers10 · 12/08/2019 21:53

@Wrigleys123 thank you for the good luck, fingers crossed the scan will be ok. I’ve also accepted a new job which I feel really guilty about as I haven’t told them I’m pregnant but wanted to wait until the scan tomorrow to make sure everything is ok as didn’t want to turn down the opportunity if things didn’t go well with the scan.

December is a long time away to see gynae! Really hope you get your BFP before then

OP posts:
Chips4dinneragain · 13/08/2019 18:49

Hope all went well today explorers and congrats with the new job.

wrigleys how long have you been TTC now?

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Explorers10 · 13/08/2019 19:27

@chips4dinneragain

All went well today, it’s remarkable there’s a baby in there as can’t see or feel anything yet! Just need to wait for results of the blood test for the downs, Edwards etc. Not sure how I’m going to tell my new job about my pregnancy, maybe I should have just stayed where I was. Really difficult as my work is going through a consultation and restructure and my role doesn’t exist in the new structure so couldn’t help but start looking for something else Confused

OP posts:
Wrigleys123 · 14/08/2019 10:52

Glad your scan went well explorers , hopefully your job will be understanding about it as you can't help these things!

chips I think I am on about month 9 or 10 now but some months have been a bit half hearted if I'm honest. How long did it take you this time?

Horrible day today have no idea what to do with my daughter, she is watching far too much tv!

Explorers10 · 14/08/2019 20:16

Told my new boss today really been dreading and worrying about his reaction. He was really nice! He said they are a workplace that believe in treating women fairly. I said I would work right up to my due date but he said if I get too tired too near then I can think about taking mat leave earlier. Also said the job was mine and not to worry and if I wanted to come back reduced hours. I’m totally gobsmacked about how nice he was! I now feel really happy that I can enjoy my pregnancy and not feel bad about starting a new job Smile

I hope you get your BFP wrigleys soon, it took me 7 months which felt like a lifetime

Did you end up getting your daughter away from the tv? Been raining all day here today

OP posts:
Chips4dinneragain · 14/08/2019 22:38

That's great news explorers and glad to hear your new boss was understanding, must be a weight off your mind.

wrigleys it took 5 cycles of seriously trying (as in tracking, OPKs, losing my mind with vitamins etc) which followed on from around a year of not-trying-not preventing (also known as trying-but-in-denial-and-pretending-to-be-relaxed-about-it!).

Wrigleys123 · 15/08/2019 08:29

That's great about your boss Explorers now you can relax and enjoy the pregnancy, he sounds like a good boss!

I managed to get my daughter away from the TV, told her it had gone to sleep! She has a friend coming round today thank god.

Hope you are not feeling too sick chips , it sounds like your pregnancy is going really fast!

I think I will keep relaxed about the TTC as never got on with OPKs really. If it's meant to be then it's meant to be I suppose!

Hope everyone else is doing alright!

crazychemist · 15/08/2019 11:18

Hello again ladies, took the last two weeks off mumsnet to try and avoid thinking about babies! Not hugely successful as we've had various visitors with little ones that made me very broody. DD was absolutely obsessed with them and was really kind and gentle Smile

cd18 here, and OPK yesterday had a line (but still much fainter than control). Have been dilligently dtd at least every other day, but did also have a completely drunken weekend at the end of AF Grin. Afraid I've been too chicken to call the doctors, but DH says he'll make sure I don't back out if we don't have any luck this cycle.

Great to hear about the new job explorers! Congratulations on getting it, and pleased to hear your boss is being reasonable. Nice to hear that scan went well too. Still not showing? I have this idea in my head that 2nd time round you show more or less immediately, but I may just be being bonkers!

Yay chips, you will have the classic one of each!

Welcome Ali and cats

Well done for getting her off the TV wrigleys. We also had quite a TV heavy day yesterday, I kept thinking it would stop raining soon and it never did. It's really hard when it rains during the summer holidays, all the usual toddler groups aren't running, so I have DD outside for a lot of the day when the weather is nice. Hope the rain doesn't last!

jaysnr · 15/08/2019 19:48

Hi ladies can I join?

It's cycle 1 for us, DS is turning 9 months so we are aiming for an 18 month gap or above! A closer age gap wasn't initially what we wanted but I had a dramatic post-partum and for medical reasons we don't want to leave #2 too long!

Currently CD 24 for us but only about 5dpo. It took 3 cycles last time but I'm expecting a longer wait than that this time. Such a weird feeling to think about DS not being the only child in the house Confused but we are so excited to love another little one!

Explorers10 · 15/08/2019 21:19

@Wrigleys123 I think that’s the best way to be to try and relax about TTC. I definitely didn’t relax and each month got more down. I think when I finally knew I was going to see the clinic I felt a lot better and then got pregnant.

@crazychemist hope you had a good 2 week away from mumsnet, that’s really hard to do so well done to you. No still not showing at all so I knew I couldn’t possibly be having twins. Although I have heard you show sooner second time round.

@Chips4dinneragain when did you start showing with your second? I know when I had my first it was around 18 weeks and I couldn’t hide it anymore as was trying to hold off from telling anyone at work until my 2nd scan

OP posts:
Chips4dinneragain · 16/08/2019 19:04

Nice to see you back chemist, good luck for this cycle. Dtd Every other day is commitment to the cause, think I only managed that for one cycle!

explorers I was really bloated from 6 weeks this time so actually looked pregnant ridiculously early. When I had my booking in appointment my midwife got the Doppler out just to see if I was further along than I thought, and I had people giving me their seats on public transport from about 9 weeks! But it was all bloating, guess I just have t got the stomach muscle to hold it in this time! Everyone at work knew before I'd even had my 12 week can as I couldn't hide it.

wrigelys I got totally obsessed with OPKs and don't think it did me any favours really, although I definitely wasn't relaxed the month I conceived as ovulation occurred the day the gp told me she didnt think I was ovulating, so I was about as stressed as I've ever been!

Welcome and good luck jay it's been quite a long journey for most of us despite it happening pretty quickly the first time.

Explorers10 · 16/08/2019 23:04

@Chips4dinneragain oh my goodness I’m the total opposite no one can tell at all at work. I told my manager in my current job yesterday even though I’m leaving just so I can go to my next antenatal appts during work time and she said when will you start showing lol.

OP posts:
Chips4dinneragain · 17/08/2019 13:32

Wow I'm jealous explorers, I've been living in the same 3 maternity dresses since about 8 weeks as none of my trousers fit! I knew it was bloating though as my stomach was relatively flat in the morning (and also baby was about the size of a chickpea at that point!), but just popped out within about an hour of eating breakfast. I have got a definite hard bump now though at 22 weeks, probably been a non-bloat bump since about 15/16 weeks I reckon, which is about a month earlier than with DD.

Explorers10 · 17/08/2019 17:59

@Chips4dinneragain I’m jealous of you! I want to be showing a bump!!! Grin

Hello ladies Smile

I'm now in my TWW. My cycle returned as normal after the D&C - I just bled more than usual and for longer too.

Hope all well 💕

Chips4dinneragain · 19/08/2019 16:19

Hi nespresso, nice to hear from you, hope you are doing ok. good luck with this TWW, any idea when AF is due or is it all up in the air this cycle?

nespressowoo · 19/08/2019 17:17

Hi @Chips4dinneragain

My period returned four weeks after my D&C which was reassuring. Lasted ages though! AF due over the weekend so trying not to get my hopes up. I am feeling a lot better, my way of coping is just cracking on with trying again.

How are you getting on?
