Is it me or does number 2 seem to take longer to conceive?

I have been advised to take 5mg (instead of the usual 400 micrograms) of folic acid while trying for a baby, due to my age and weight. Does anyone know a reputable place to buy tablets with 5mg? The usual places on the high street don't seem to sell them. A bit wary of online sellers Ive never heard of...

crazychemist · 04/07/2019 21:31

Ah wrigleys, that sounds rather shit! Would you like to elaborate on relationship stuff to blow off steam, or would you rather keep it private? Fingers crossed it’s not as serious as it sounds.

@OneLifeThreeGuvnors, have you tried Holland and Barrett’s? Can’t think of anywhere else I’m afraid.

OneLifeThreeGuvnors · 05/07/2019 09:15

Thanks@crazychemist; I don't think they do it either.

Apologies to the OP - I actually tried to post this question as a separate thread, but seem to have added it to this one by mistake. The mobile version of Mumsnet is clearly too high-tech for me.... Blush

Wrigleys123 · 05/07/2019 09:22

Thanks chemist, I think I would need a whole new thread Grin

MummyBearBoo · 07/07/2019 16:57

I've just got out of hospital today the placenta didn't come out properly so they tried for hours to get it out but it got stuck in my cervix so eventually I had to go the Theatre -for the TFMR I declined pain relief coz I wanted to be able to go home that was a mistake it was so painful that I was delirious and being sick! I lost so much blood that I had to have more blood transfusions!
I had to stay in for 4 days and they've let me come out today but my O2 levels in my blood are still low but they've given me iron and told me to rest!
It depends how my bleeding goes now but the scarring in my womb can make the placenta attach to it so it will not come out properly so they've recommended that we do not to try again naturally in case we have to have another TFMR as my womb couldn't take it and I don't think I can either- but we can't realistically afford PGD so we may not be able to have our my much longed for 2nd baby😭😭 xxx

Wrigleys123 · 07/07/2019 21:07

Oh mummy I'm so sorry to hear that, you've had such an awful time of it. Hope your family are looking after you. It's a lot to take in and have all that on your shoulders. Plenty of hugs from me Flowers

Chips4dinneragain · 07/07/2019 21:12

Oh mummybear I'm so sorry, I had been wondering how you were doing, what a traumatic week you've had. Hope you are starting to recover physically and have lots of emotional support around you while you process the news xx

Bethy1995 · 07/07/2019 22:07

Hi everyone need some advice please I'm really confused by what I'm experiencing.

I'm now on CD 11, AF ended on CD 5 but for the last 2 days I've had brown spotting which has now got a red tinge to it with bit of what looks like uterine lining. This weekend I've been ridiculously tired and ratty. I never ever sleep in the day havent done even when DS was a baby (hes 2 now). We have BD twice this week.

According to ovia I should be entering my fertile stage tomorrow. Not really sure what in earth is going on has anyone experienced this before? May be worth adding I had my implant out on the 9th of may and this is the 1st time AF has showed her face.

crazychemist · 09/07/2019 19:28

Oh dear, such sad news all round Sad. I’m guessing that some of you might be staying away from Mumsnet/conception threads at that moment, but if you do come on, my thoughts are with you Flowers.

@Bethy1995, if this is first AF since removal of implant, it won’t necessarily be to the normal schedule, your hormones will be a bit wonky for a while. Apps work on averages, which isn’t much use for your first cycle. By all means continue to BD, but you might not be able to predict your fertile window in this cycle.

crazychemist · 09/07/2019 19:31

Cd13 here, no sign of positive opk so far but have been dutifully baby dancing every 2 days since AF finished. DD keeps asking me if I have a baby in my tummy yet Sad. Guessing she’d picked that up from someone at nursery. DH seems to think this cycle will be the one.... not sure where that confidence is coming from.

Wrigleys123 · 09/07/2019 20:46

crazychemist hopefully your husband is right! Hope everyone else is doing okay.

I have requested another scan from my useless doctor as have a feeling my PCOS is getting worse.

crazychemist · 10/07/2019 21:54

Hi Wrigleys, what’s getting worse with your PCOS? Will your GP be able to manage it?

Wrigleys123 · 11/07/2019 18:16

crazy lots of pain at time of the month and various other strange things! Hoping they can tell me if it's got worse or not. Have you had a positive opk yet?

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

crazychemist · 12/07/2019 15:30

Sorry to hear that. Hope it won’t cause you trouble.

Only a faint OPK so far. I’ve had a faint positive since about day 10, now on day 16 and it’s no darker. Continuing to baby dance every two days just in case! DH keeps asking me if I think I’m pregnant yet Hmm. He was quite disappointed when I said I didn’t think I’d ovulated yet. On the bright side, DDs sleep has been pretty amazing (well, for her), so at least it is possible to give it all we’ve got this month! And he’s checked that DMil has no plans to come here unexpectedly Wink

Wrigleys123 · 17/07/2019 11:40

Just checking in! I have a scan next week so hopefully they will be able to tell me if my pcos is causing me problems.

Hope your MIL hasn't turned up unexpectedly Crazy Grin

crazychemist · 18/07/2019 13:05

Hey wrigleys. Good luck for the scan! What are you hoping they’ll say? Do you know if they’ll tell you straight away, or do results go to your GP to explain?

MIL is apparently going to arrive tomorrow. At least we got 24hours notice, that’s better than we usually get! No idea how long she’s staying for, she never ever says..... Hmm

Cd22 here. OPKs had a faint line around cd10, but it was never a proper positive and then went away. Back again with faint lines, but they aren’t getting any darker. Suspect this might be another anovulatory cycle. Bugger. We’ve been so good about baby dancing every two days! Frankly I think we’ll both view AF as a bit of a break!

crazychemist · 19/07/2019 11:30

Aha, cd22 and I’ve finally got a positive OPK! We dtd the last two nights... have told DH that we’re going to have to carry on even though MIL is going to be here! (He did NOT look happy about that. But we lost two cycles to her staying for the duration of fertile window, I am not missing this one!!!) Honestly, I don’t know how she times these visits. I should stop bothering with OPKs and just ask her when she next plans to turn up....

Can I have some fingers crossed for a decent LP please? We’ve dtd every two days throughout this cycle, determined to keep it up every day until Positive OPK goes (and I only get one half the time it seems), so I’m feeling positive if I can only get a LP longer than 10 days just this once (average seems to be 8 days, which is why I suspect we haven’t had luck so far)

Wrigleys123 · 19/07/2019 16:49

Woo hoo for positive OPK Chemist shame about your MIL staying Grin hopefully it won't put a downer on things too much! Do you have pcos too or long cycles? Sorry I can't keep up with thread!

I'm just wanting to see if I still have pcos or if it's gotten worse with the scan. My GP is pretty useless so hopefully I will be able to get more advice from the hospital. I did conceive DD without any help but that was 4 years ago now Confused

crazychemist · 20/07/2019 08:39

Grumpy this morning. DH said he couldn’t get in the mood with his mother in the next room (we had waited a while, but she was clearly still awake and we were both getting tired, he’d driven a 7 hour round trip to collect her). She sleeps late so we thought we could get away with it this morning, but DD woke up early! Resorted to a calpol syringe as we were so desperate not to miss ovulation Blush

Don’t know if I have PCOS. I’ve never been diagnosed with it, but almost all of my family have it and I have many of the symptoms. Problem at the moment seems to be that my body takes more than one go to ovulate, then when I finally do I have an incredibly short LP.

crazychemist · 21/07/2019 19:37

Two days of nice strong positive OPK, and a faintish one today. Managed to dtd day before positive and each positive day so far, as well as every other day throughout cycle. Definitely going for it as much as we can this cycle. Into the 2 week wait now.

Wrigleys123 · 21/07/2019 21:29

Laughing at the calpol syringe chemist, at least you can say you've given it everything this cycle! About cd21 here and have my scan tomorrow, not sure if they will tell me anything worthwhile but it's worth a try. Seems like we are on similar cycles [pgrin]

crazychemist · 23/07/2019 09:41

Morning all (if there’s anyone still here but us wrigleys!)

Getting a bit obsessive now. About 3dpo I think. Got very low last night as I had some bleeding (too early for implantation bleeding, so no idea what it was) but it’s stopped so I reckon I’m still in with a chance! Dtd last night, DH said he’ll be glad of some time off! I promised him he could have a bit of a break now Grin

How did the scan go wrigleys? Did you find out anything useful?

I’m going away for a min-break with DD and DMum next week. I’ll probably crack and POAS before I go, which will be 13dpo if AF hasn’t showed up. Thank goodness I’ll have some distraction from either obsessive testing or being absolutely miserable about AF!

Wrigleys123 · 23/07/2019 10:07

Morning Chemist hope the bleeding has stopped, do you think it's just random spotting? I'm impressed with your determination, it's way too hot for dtd at the moment!

The scan was interesting it turns out I don't have pcos according to the hospital and just have one small cyst which is nothing to worry about, they are referring me to a gynae within the hospital so I am now in their 'system' so to speak which is good.

Hope you enjoy your mini-break and it provides a welcome distraction for you!

crazychemist · 24/07/2019 11:39

Hoping it was just random spotting. I haven’t had any more, so definitely wasn’t the start of AF. Mini break is just what I need for distraction, I’m feeling really quite loopy this cycle

Good that you’re in the system, do you know what next steps are, or will you wait until you see the gynae?

Chips4dinneragain · 24/07/2019 13:19

I'm still here! Do you think it could be ovulation bleeding chemist? Apparently it can occur just after ovulation, so as the OPKs can only give you a vagueish ov date it might have been that? I've had it a few times, or at least I think that's what it was. Good effort this cycle by they way Wink

Great news about your scan wrigleys, hope you dont have to wait too long to see a gyne.
