Hello!

New to all this and just started TTC in December. Stupidly tested a million times already, so trying to chill out about it (easier said..) or I will drive myself potty.

KernowBee · 30/12/2018 13:24

Welcome @ohsure

Don't even worry about it! I'm a self obsessed POAS-a-holic! Grin

One of my new year resolutions is to just bloody wait! (Not going to happen)

Are you trying for your first? Are you using any fertility apps / temping etc or just going with the flow at the moment?

OP posts:
ohsure · 30/12/2018 13:28

It's horribly addictive! TTC since November, even! Yes - trying for my first and going with the flow(ish). Got the Flo app but not temping yet. I'm sure I will be soon enough as I have no patience Grin

How long have you been trying, Kernowbee? And are you trying for your first?

Butterfliesandroses · 30/12/2018 13:49

Hi @KernowBee and @ohsure !
What a brilliant start to the thread!
If I could share my story..
We have been ttc for 2 cycles so far (one in Aug 2018 and one in Dec 2018 - both BFN). We took a break Oct and Nov as I got a promotion at work so I wanted to focus on that - couldn't postpone any longer as we are both so ready for our first little one.
The BFNs are difficult to face but we are trying to remain positive at the moment and telling ourselves that we are still new to this and every cycle we learn something new to help us on our journey.
AF is due on NYE so we are excited about trying for our first baby in 2019.
I am using the Glow app and have some cheap OPKs (didn't get a positive in Dec) and a thermometer arrived in the post today so planning to start temping from tomorrow. Had been using pregnacare vitamins but having read Luisa Zissman's blog am trying her combination of vitamins for the new year.
Sending baby dust to all Smile

Outwards · 30/12/2018 13:59

Can I join the thread?

Been TTC 18 months (for our first) and undergoing tests for fertility, but I'm always and ever-hopeful!

I'm 8dpo today - I hate the TWW....feeling tired & irritable too, so it's pointing towards PMS....but here's hoping for a Jan BFP!

iano · 30/12/2018 14:05

Hello everyone! We've just started trying for our second little person.
I'm waiting to test if we got lucky in December. I wasn't tracking my temperature and as my cycles are less reliable since having DS I'm not sure we got the timing right.
I'm determined to hold off testing until my period is due but am really struggling. Hoping the new year brings us all some great news!

iano · 30/12/2018 14:07

Could someone direct me to where I can get my head around all the abbreviations? What's dpo?

ohsure · 30/12/2018 15:03

Hello, all.

I think DPO is days past ovulation, iano. (I’m 4 days DPO!) when are you thinking of testing? I tell myself early testing is pointless, but did it all the time anyway in my first cycle and was just hugely disappointed every time! If I don’t have any tests the house, I can’t be tempted, so I’ve said I’m not going to buy any til I’m past my period date.

Ooh, well done butterflies, I’ve not started all that yet! What vitamins are you going to take?

18 months sounds tough, outwards. Everything very firmly crossed for a January BFP Brewy

Butterfliesandroses · 30/12/2018 17:11

@ohsure I'm like you and impatient so I'll try anything. Like so many I thought it would happen first time and when it didn't I went into research overdrive!
Luisa recommends coq10, DHA and folic acid so I'll be trying those. The hardest part for me is cutting caffeine - I love tea too much !!!

Fingers crossed for your BFPs @outwards and @iano

ttc12019 · 30/12/2018 17:15

Hi 👋🏽
Can I join in too? Just started ttc for baby #1
Just finished AF a few days ago and my cycles are usually about 31-33 days long.
I've started taking folic acid too. Hoping it all helps 😃 been reading a few other threads, there is so much to learn, a bit overwhelming tbh

ohsure · 30/12/2018 17:25

Hello, @ttc12019 [waves]

There’s so much info out there that it makes me a bit blinky but tell myself that women’s have been doing this since time began and we can bloody well do it too!

Thanks @butterfliesandroses - going to start with folic acid for now, I think.

I’m due on the 10th, so it’s the wait for me now. I need distractions, so the house will never have looked so clean Grin

iano · 30/12/2018 18:00

@ohsure
AF is due 6th January so I'll do a test then or maybe even on 7th if I can hold out. Good idea to keep tests out of the house! I stupidly bought an ovulation test kit with pregnancy tests.

Hannah192 · 30/12/2018 18:09

Hi everyone!

I have ordered the folic acid and my husband and I are going to start trying for our first baby in January! Exciting times.

I’m stressing a little as I stopped the pill in November and haven’t had a period since or withdrawal. Hopefully all will be ok and I believe we just won’t be certain on a due date at the beginning.

Good luck everyone

EssJayyCee · 30/12/2018 18:11

Hi Ladies,

I am not TTC in January but I am a bit of a lurker and like reading other people's stories and asking and giving advice. I hope you don't mind?

I'm 26 years old and I will be TTC baby no.1 from March after our holiday! I'm not sure if I'm more excited for the holiday or finally starting our TTC journey!

I have been told recently I have cysts on my right ovary, but my doctor believes I shouldn't have an issue getting pregnant it just may take a little longer and the inconvenience of not knowing when AF is coming will prove difficult with timing!

Since I came off the pill in July I've had a range of cycles 45,33,64,18 days.. currently on CD6. So I feel like my TTC journey may be a bumpy one!

Good luck everyone!

EssJayyCee · 30/12/2018 18:17

@KernowBee that is a good new years resolution! POAS all the time makes things so much more stressful! I may be exactly the same when it comes to me trying but from what other people have said they just seem to get overly depressed from POAS!

My new years resolution is to look after myself more! Actually going to the doctors when I have a problem instead of leaving it. I've booked in at the opticians after about 6 years! And I've finally joined a waiting list for a dentist after not being for provably 10 years!
I figured if I want a baby I need to be in the best possible shape!

KernowBee · 30/12/2018 18:46

Firstly, sorry to everyone for my late reply! I may have asked questions below you've already answered during me typing this when I've had chance so please forgive that lol! I have a 7and a half year old with Autism and ADHD and today has been a rather heightened one! Just got the time to sit down now and read all of your replies. Happy to have you all here!

@ohsure, TTC since Jan '18. It took 18 months for my first but I had really irregular periods then. I use 4 apps currently, trying to work out which one I like best to stick with!

Fertility Friend
Flo
Glow
Ovia

I've just started temping the last month. Will be heading to the GP in January just for a check up to make sure I'm all in working order lol! x

Hi @Butterfliesandroses, welcome to the thread
Congratulations on your promotion! I ordered some cheap OPK strips online as well, but personally found the temping the most reliable. I can never tell If the strips really are dark enough for a positive or not! x

Welcome @Outwards To the thread good luck with your fertility tests! I'll be going down that path in January. I feel your pain with the TWW, for me, EVERYTHING becomes a possibly pregnancy sign! Keeping my fingers crossed for your January BFP x

Welcome @iano, ooh exciting! How long until AF is due? Keep us posted! It's so tough holding on to test isn't it? I always give in and test then tell myself maybe it's just BFN because I tested too early! Thinking of you and hoping you get your BFP!

I also really struggled with the abbreviations! I try to write them in full but always forget, the main ones I use are:
AF - aunt flow (period)
BFN / BFP - big fat negative / positive
DPO - Days past ovulation
CD - cycle day

This should help with the rest:

https://www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms

Welcome to the thread @ttc12019 we have the same length cycles! It can be a bit overwhelming. I've read Mumsnet for so long but only recently became active. There's a list above with what the abbreviations mean and always ask ask ask. We're all here to support each other x

Hi @Hannah192 welcome to the thread Ooh exciting your first! Good luck on your journey. Have you spoke to GP about cycles coming back after stopping them? I've only had the DEPO injection, mine came back 2 months later? Keep us updated x

Welcome @EssJayyCee to the thread Smile are you going anywhere nice? I also suffered cysts and had irregular cycles. It took 18months for my first without any tracking or temping etc. Are you going be be temping from March? Your cycles might be irregular but hopefully (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) the temping will help you to track each one each month, with the rise in temp that stays up just before ovulation? I love that resolution about getting in better shape. Since my son 7 years ago I haven't looked after myself at all! I'm 6st heavier than back then! We're having a mad binge the last few days of this year, then starting in January making small but achievable goals to hit along the way! I'm so proud of you for taking the leap and getting yourself back on track. It can be a real struggle once we find ourselves in a cycle to break out of it and find time and energy for self care. I wish you all the best with your personal journey. Look forward to hearing from you again! x

Look forward to speaking more x

Good luck hannah!

I’m going to do the same, essjaycee. Really need to get on a dentist waiting list. I’m not as bad as 10 years though Grin

I’m already counting the days I can POAS - but don’t want to be disappointed again!

ttc12019 · 30/12/2018 18:59

Thanks very much for being so welcoming. I was on another thread and felt like they were already quite further on with ttc for a while rather than being new to the process!
DH and I are so excited to be ttc finally!! 😁
We've been discussing it for so long, waiting for the right time etc... but we've decided to go for it!

ttc12019 · 30/12/2018 19:03

@KernowBee
Ah! Same cycles - ttc twins then haha
Been reading about when is the right time to dtd, again so much info to take in and you always want to do it all 😅 I use Clue and started temping a few days ago. It's predicting my fertile window to start from Mon the 7th and am meant to O on the 11th.

ttc12019 · 30/12/2018 19:05

@ohsure you bet we do!! Am determined to figure all this out and start this exciting journey 😊

iano · 30/12/2018 20:00

Thanks @KernowBee for the link!
I'll keep you guys posted. Not hugely likely to be a BFP... but here's to hoping!

iano · 30/12/2018 20:04

Welcome @ttc12019 ! I've already got one DS but we got super lucky last time and my periods were very regular so it was easy to work out when to DTD.
That's not the case anymore so I think second time around could take longer.
It's all a lot more complicated than one imagines isn't it? Slightly overwhelmed by all the info I'm reading.

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2018 07:42

@KernowBee We are going to Madeira. I am looking forward to a nice break but I have been wanting to try for a baby for so long.

I came off the pill in July, ready to start ttc but then we realised if I fell pregnant straight away the due date would coincide with my sisters wedding which I am a bridesmaid for. So we decided to wait a couple of months until November.. and then we booked a holiday and DP thought it would be best if we then waited again until after our holiday so we could do anything on holiday without being worried. (He really wants to go scuba diving)

I keep looking at temping but I'm quite a forgetful person so it would probably not be very accurate.
Also, I know it's natural but I find it weird having to temp vaginally haha. And I've read orally doesn't give as good of a reading.

I've got plenty of one step opks so hopefully they will work for me. Since I stopped the pill I feel a bit more in tune with my body and I have noticed I get tingly painful boobs when I'm ovulating (I think) so I will start testing when I feel things. And hopefully that will help.

@ohsure I'm not even sure that I will get on their records. They were fully booked and having a clear out of old clients over Christmas so even by the new year I may not even be registered with them. If I'm not I may have to travel 30-40 minutes just to get to the dentist! :/

ttc12019 · 31/12/2018 11:04

@iano
Totally! There is so much to learn and understand about how our bodies function and everyone is so different!
I keep going to my DH with "did you know..." 😂 he'll have a sore head from all the TMI soon!

Hope all you ladies have a great last day of 2018!

ohsure · 31/12/2018 13:05

Good luck, I’m sure everything is just fine kernowbee!
Let us know how you get on with all the apps.

I’m constantly “did you know”-ing at DH too, ttc, he barely looks up now!

essjaycee, have a fabulous holiday - all that relaxing can only help!

It’s all pretty overwhelming, but how lovely that we have each other for hand-holds.

Got pregnacare conception today - anyone else on that?

Happy New Year everyone - here’s to BFPs for us all in 2019 🤞🏼
