So here’s the proof - my first ever BFP. This came up in about 20seconds. Now I’ve seen that I’m starting to believe it!

Dinah99 · 19/10/2018 13:27

@CritterTamer wow! That is a really strong line and something to be proud of! x

Dinah99 · 19/10/2018 13:28

@CritterTamer how long did it take you from first ivf appointment to bfp? x

CritterTamer · 19/10/2018 13:36

@Dinah99 initial appointment at the clinic for investigations was March with first cycle in June. This was our second cycle.

Rose68 · 19/10/2018 13:42

Great line Critter!
Mine is not quite so strong, but definitely there...

CritterTamer · 19/10/2018 13:51

Congrats @Rose68! - 2 BFPs in one day and is it 4 or 5 this month so far - things are looking up for us oldies!

Dinah99 · 19/10/2018 13:55

Oooh great like @Rose68
@CritterTamer thanks for info, I vowed never to do ivf but the closer I'm getting to ending trying the more it keeps sneaking into my mind.... would you recommend your clinic? x

Dinah99 · 19/10/2018 13:55

Line not like! Confused

CritterTamer · 19/10/2018 14:02

@Dinah99 yes I would - with the exception of 1 male doctor whom i found very negative and insensitive, everything else about it has been great. The only thing I would say is that they seem to do less blood testing than some clinics. Im At CRGW in South Wales - I think they have a clinic in Bristol too.

Russkispy · 19/10/2018 14:56

@Rose68 , line is looking good!
@Dinah99 , my fertility doctor didn't even want to discus Plan B etc with me when I came this time for IUI. Only positive vibes, she said. I kind of pressed and she said, she would do one more IUI next cycle and IVF in January. And I have all faith in her and the clinic! They're the best! And caring and loving! From receptionists to all main doctors! My doctor owns/runs it, every time she did IUI, she stayed with me and held my hand, comforted me. I found it so touching! Especially that I don't have my mum anymore and she knows it. She was there by my side. Absolutely loved and didn't feel all alone.

Floofsquidge · 19/10/2018 15:12

Congrats on all the BFPs!!
Good point on the vitamin D.
At my midwife booking appointment my age was barely a factor and my own age related concerns were brushed aside (in a nice way).
But rewind back 4 years to a doctor at an annual health MOT at bupa and the doctor basically told me if I didn't have children in the next 12 months I should forget it. I was recently separated, and only just 36! She was a cow.

Orchid222 · 19/10/2018 15:23

Russkispy- your clinic sounds great, I wish it was more local! I on the other hand got no's everywhere I asked about IUI, bus and privately :( Id go back home and do it but I started a new job less than a month ago so don't have much leave yet. If you're works though maybe I will go ahead and do that no matter what silly consultants say though I've kind of made my piece with going the IVF route.

The clinics should give you all the information and statistics available so that you can ultimately make your own decision - I’m very surprised they told you no IUI Orchid - my clinic were very open and perfectly willing to do whatever we wanted, but made it clear to us that the statistics were that IUI was only half as likely to work for us as IVF. Being on a limited budget and timescale we just decided to put our resources where the chances were best 😊

CritterTamer · 19/10/2018 15:35

@Floofsquidge it’s nice to hear that your midwife was so unconcerned with the age factor - from what I’ve heard midwives seem to be far more positive than doctors where it comes to over 40 pregnancies

Russkispy · 19/10/2018 16:35

@Orchid222 , I always insisted on IUI first and nothing to do with money. Though IVF would be my very last resource. And I got pregnant every time, with the first try. So I'm yet to find out if it worked this time.
But I know some women opt for IVF straight away for various reasons. You're the only one to decide what's best for you!

Chatbash72 · 19/10/2018 17:44

Congratulations @CritterTamer

Orchid222 · 19/10/2018 18:34

Russkispy, I wasn't clear, they didn't refuse to do it but said I'd be wasting my time on it. I'm sure they'd do it if I insisted but very strongly 'recommended' not even bothering.

Dinah99 · 19/10/2018 18:41

Thanks @Russkispy, what age were you when you had successful IUI's my gynaecologist said I'd just be wasting my money, but I wanted to give it a go... x

Cleozeta · 19/10/2018 19:27

I was thinking about just going for IUI, it's the timing and monitoring that I like the idea of. I'd consider IVF but would be a last resort. Planning on registering with a clinic next month. Will be interesting to hear what they say

Russkispy · 19/10/2018 19:30

@Orchid222 , sorry I misunderstood. My doctor suggested IVF first but never said IUI would be a waste. So I she respected my wish. Twice and very lucky it worked from the first try. I know the last one ended up in MMC but still got pregnant. Hopefully third time lucky next week!
@Dinah99 , I was 40 with my first IUI. And am 42 now and had my second successful IUI in May but ended in MMC.

Dinah99 · 19/10/2018 20:56

Here's optimism for us all, basically Dr Winston says it's exaggerated about fertility problems in women in 40's and we should all have more sex (dear god not more sex ) www.itv.com/thismorning/health/dr-robert-winston-talks-fertility

Chatbash72 · 19/10/2018 21:28

Love prof winston....

littlemimosa · 19/10/2018 21:54

Congratulations Rose and Critter!!!! Amazing news. I just adore an over 40 bfp. You ladies are awesome. Interesting theory on the Vit D too..... (shuffles off to get the D spray) x

littlemimosa · 19/10/2018 22:02

I’ll tell you what gets me. The media and some health ‘experts’ talk about fertility as though it suddenly and without warning just drops off a cliff at age 40. As though Mother Nature would be that black and white! That podcast on Fertility Hour I linked to talks about this. They said that because we’re all told this that it sort of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
