Hi lovelies!

A thread for the graduates of those who were waiting to TTC and are now actively trying, or very soon to be actively trying! Apologies if I've forgotten anyone or tagged the wrong people, please do join in or join later as necessary! Hoping we can continue to support and keep each other sane in this TTC madness!

@dottydally I'm not entirely sure. I have already given all of my details on the phone and again when I gave my blood sample. This with the obstetrician will go over blood and scan results and I'm not sure what else 🤷‍♀️ I'm completely unprepared for the system here. I'll just ask lots of questions.

Jelliestogether · 14/03/2019 17:55

@dottydally I'm with @rollerskaterdata, feeling the baby move has brought some comfort (and today my DH felt it for the first time!) But especially to begin with I'm worrying now wether it's moving enough, not enough etc!

@rollerskaterdata the specialist heart scan is a detailed ultrasound scan focusing on the heart and blood vessels of the baby, I work in an paediatric unit which is a cardiac centre, so it's something at the front of my mind about something being wrong as some of heart conditions aren't picked up on the normal anatomy scan (I don't mean to worry anyone!! I just see the worst and minority at work!).

rollerskaterdata · 14/03/2019 22:01

@Jelliestogether ahh I see, I didn't even know they did those! I hope all is well at the scan and it brings you some comfort 😊

My scan went well, heartbeat good and measuring right for my dates. It looked like a frog swimming round! Kicking its legs out and doing backflips. They struggled to get good pictures and heartrate because it was moving so much.

I have a quick questions if anyone knows. In the UK is it right that they don't do smear tests during pregnancy? I have that in my mind but not 100% I am right.

Jelliestogether · 15/03/2019 14:14

@NeverHadANickname aw glad it all went well for you!! It's amazing how much they move but you can't feel it yet! And yes in the UK we don't get smear tests during pregnancy.

@rollerskaterdata thanks, it's usually for people with a family history of heart conditions which is why most people don't know about it.

NeverHadANickname · 15/03/2019 14:19

Thanks @Jelliestogether here they like to do one at your first appointment which I asked not to have. I don't see the point in unnecessary fiddling with the cervix and that's what I thought was the UK stance. I am not due one and have never had an abnormal one. They said they'll ask to examine me later to 'make sure my cervix is closed' which again I'm not sure about unless it is close to due date. They seem to like internal examinations here.

rollerskaterdata · 15/03/2019 19:58

@NeverHadANickname remind us where you are? (If you don't mind telling us!). And so glad all was well at the scan 😊 what's your EDD?

OP posts:
NeverHadANickname · 15/03/2019 20:31

@rollerskaterdata I am in the US so all very much insurance based and quite clinical in some aspects. I am due 3rd October 😊 just in time for Halloween, thanks giving and Christmas.

RandomUsernameHere · 16/03/2019 11:22

Glad to hear it went well @NeverHadANickname !
Can confirm what others have said about cervical screening in the UK. I got the reminder letter for mine at almost exactly the time I found out I was pregnant. I asked the GP what to do and she said to wait until after giving birth to get it done.

dottydally · 16/03/2019 17:51

Congratulations @NeverHadANickname! I'm so pleased it all went well. I'm still below the age for a smear test so I've not experienced the joy yet.

Not sure if anyone can help me in the next hour! We are out for a dinner party. Planned a long time and no excuse to back out. Good friends but not good enough to tell them as I'm only 5 weeks and we've not told anyone yet! Usually a gin, vodka or wine drinker. Any ideas how I get away with this? I tried saying I would drive as it is pouring but they have booked us a taxi BlushAngry

rollerskaterdata · 16/03/2019 22:07

@RandomUsernameHere I had the same, I'm due a smear now as it's been 3 years since my last one but as I'm preggo I've been told to wait until after birth

@dottydally sorry I wasn't able to help with tips, I had friends over myself for dinner tonight so only just getting my daily Mumsnet fix Grin how did it go? I'm sure it must've been incredibly hard to hide when you're drinking at their house AND they booked you a taxi!! Do you think they twigged?

@rollerskaterdata I'm still here!

RandomUsernameHere · 17/03/2019 06:19

@dottydally what happened in the end? Sounds like a tricky situation! We had friends round for dinner last night too so just catching up x

Kam610 · 17/03/2019 09:40

Hi ladies! I'm very new to this site so still getting to grips with how it all works 🙂 I'm 27 and recently married. I'm going to stop taking my pill at the end of this packet in the hopes that my periods return to normal in the next few months ready for us to TTC in the summer!
I love reading all your stories, it gets me so excited. I've been desperate to have a baby for so long!

mussie · 17/03/2019 20:23

Hi @Kam610 ! Sounds so exciting ☺️ you should join over on the other thread I'm on, Who else planning to start TTC this spring? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/3480009-Who-else-planning-to-start-TTC-this-spring. There's a bunch of us in a similar boat! Fingers crossed your cycles get back to normal quickly!

dottydally · 17/03/2019 20:42

@RandomUsernameHere @rollerskaterdata sorry, busy day! It ended up being a mixture of DP having my drinks and me blaming my feeling rough on an ear infection. Seemed to get away with it as I was still 'drinking' a bit. Also had a few 'vodka' and cokes. There was one person there who I felt watched me a bit too closely though.

It did all end in tears when we got home and I cried because I was so tired. Can I blame it on hormones at 5 weeks or is that too early? Blush

I also feel like I've felt quite anxious lately and, to be honest, a bit like a fraud. My boobs hurt and I am tired/emotional, but I almost don't feel pregnant yet. Early scan in 3 weeks will hopefully help me out!

@NeverHadANickname you have such a nice due date!

dottydally · 18/03/2019 09:45

@RandomUsernameHere @NeverHadANickname @Jelliestogether not sure if any of you will know, but I've had a weird feeling all morning in my lower abdomen. It's like a bubbly feeling (I'm 5/6 weeks). It's not at all painful but is just a bit odd. I'm also ridiculously bloated which is great fun. Any ideas what it is? I wondered if it was gas but I don't think it is Blush

Jelliestogether · 18/03/2019 10:09

@dottydally I had a crazy amount of gas bubbles in my stomach but not so much actual passing gas especially in the first trimester if that makes sense?

dottydally · 18/03/2019 10:19

@Jelliestogether yes like that! I keep going to the toilet as if I might have gas but nothing comes out (sorry, gross!)

I just found it a bit unnerving as I'm so wary of any weird feelings going on down there. The bloating is so very real though. I know baby is tiny at this stage but I feel like I look different already. I don't think anyone else in my office would notice but I am so so conscious of it.

3 weeks to my early scan though. It can't come quickly enough! I also have my booking appointment that day. I read online somewhere that DP might be asked to leave for some of the appointment, is that right?

cupcakesandglitter · 18/03/2019 10:31

@dottydally I'm not pg but have IBS and that sounds exactly like gas 😂 doesn't always have to come out! Xx

RandomUsernameHere · 18/03/2019 10:33

Hi @dottydally the baby's movements in early pregnancy feel like little flutters in your tummy but I'm not sure how early that can start. I think maybe a bit later.
I don't think DH came to my booking appointment as I didn't have a scan that day, but in some places it is standard practice to ask the partner to leave the room in case the woman is being abused, so it gives her a chance to ask for help. It would be the same for everyone if that is the hospital's policy x

dottydally · 18/03/2019 10:50

@cupcakesandglitter maybe it's entirely unrelated and I'm just being paranoid!

@RandomUsernameHere definitely too early for movements at 5/6 weeks Sad That makes sense. The early scan is private and separate from my booking appointment but I thought I would make the most of having to have a day off! I will warn him he might have to leave, he will feel uncomfortable otherwise!

NeverHadANickname · 18/03/2019 12:46

@dottydally I have definitely had a lot more 'internal gas' movements but not many external ones. My food has been quite different though depending on how sick I am feeling/being on any given day 🤢

In good news though, I didn't feel sick Saturday morning and only for a little while after I had my dinner yesterday! Feel like that is a good achievement. In bad news I am now struggling to walk on an evening! It started as general pain near my pelvic bone and on the underside on an evening. It now aches all the time and last night after sitting down for a while to eat and then watch TV I was in agony walking across the living room, it felt like each leg was being pulled off when I put it down to walk. I had to lean on DH to make it upstairs.

NeverHadANickname · 18/03/2019 12:47

Also thanks for all of the reassurance about the smears, feel slightly less awkward now for asking not to have one.
