@rollerskaterdata if you want any ideas on announcements, I spend far too much time on Pinterest Blush

I think the only person that would know pre 12 weeks is probably my mum. It's going to be a whole new world for me and I am worried I will need her support/answers to strange questions. I might tell one of my closest friends too, but that would be all (and I trust her to keep a secret). My OH reckons I'll tell my mum before him, but I want it to be our secret, just for a little while.

I'd tell family and friends at 12 weeks and then work after. I'd have to act quickly though in case word gets round before I do! I agree with @Jelliestogether re not putting anything on social media until 20 weeks. I could cope with telling friends/family/work if something awful happened but would hate to have to explain to my Facebook friends list.

I saw someone who gave their parent a little pot with a raspberry in it and a note that said 'this is the size of your first grandchild'. I thought it was a lovely way of doing it before 12 weeks as you've got no scan photo. I've also seen a birthday card signed 'love from Dotty, Mr Dotty and baby'. I'd love to film it but I'm not discreet enough! We do have a couple of birthdays around when I might be 12 weeks, so I'm crossing my fingers!

PastaSauceHoarder · 31/07/2018 14:01

Theres 10 years between my sister and I and 13 years between me and my little brother, @dottydally. Smile I think they must be the reason that I love children so much. My mum was very open and let me get excited and involved in her pregnancies (my older brothers weren't as interested!) and it absolutely fascinated me.

We all have days like that! I bet you're making a difference somehow or in other ways. And aren't work from home days SUPPOSED to be pyjama days? Wink

@springsummerautumnwinter your dress sounds stunning!! Are you going to have a veil as well? I think weddings and babies come hand in hand so I imagine you'll be getting the 'when will you have kids' question a lot! We keep being asked if we're going to have another, people are relentless. 😂

Yes yes yes to everything you've just said about announcing, @rollerskaterdata! I'd love to keep quiet but at the same time it'd be lovely to have support if anything were to go wrong. I think with my next one I'd like to tell our parents straight away but keep it a secret until maybe 16 weeks - I'd like to have a gender scan and annouce it to everyone then. Smile But, I know myself and I'm rubbish at keeping things quiet so who knows?

RandomUsernameHere · 31/07/2018 14:30

So lovely to catch up with everyone's news on this thread!

@dottydally I actually think I'll be fine on the first day of school. I wasn't on the first day of preschool though, I cried like a baby, even though DD and DS ran in happily after saying goodbye!

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 14:54

@Jelliestogether, I don't have any social media (no fb, twitter, instagram, Pinterest etc) apart from Whatsapp so no one would actually know I was pregnant anyway unless I told them! My DH has facebook but we both agree we don't like the thought of having photos of our kids and stuff on there so that's not a problem - nothing wrong with that of course, just a personal choice we have made.

@dotty, oooo I love that announcement with the jam, so sweet! I think that might work for my 3 best friends, and our mums, they're the only people I would tell before 12 weeks - I might have to steal that idea! Although, I think we might try and keep it to ourselves for as long as we can - we can try at least ha ha!

@Pasta, oh I love that idea for an announcement! We found out DS's gender at 20 weeks and promised ourselves we wouldn't with the next one, so when announcing to everyone else after 12 weeks it'll either just be the bog standard "I'm pregnant" or people noticing my belly getting round!

PastaSauceHoarder · 31/07/2018 15:26

I envy people who wait until the birth to find out what they are having @rollerskaterdata, I am FAR too impatient! My daughter had her legs crossed at my 20 week scan so I immediately booked a private gender scan for the following day... 😳
I'd like to have a name picked out as well for the next one so I can announce that as well as the pregnancy. Does anyone else already have names for their hypothetical children? 😂

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 15:37

@Pasta, don't worry I'm impatient too, I'll probably be paying for a private scan around 8 weeks as I can't wait until my 12 week scan to get a glimpse of our baby!

And I've had names picked out for years! Grin

PastaSauceHoarder · 31/07/2018 15:59

I have a boys name picked out and ready but not a girls - my daughters name has been my favourite since I can remember and nothing else I hear comes close to how much I love it!
How old is your son now, @rollerskaterdata? Sorry if you've already said! I had a private early scan at 10 weeks with my little girl and it was amazing. Smile I'd been bleeding bright red blood quite a bit and I convinced myself that the absolute worst was happening - but nope, there she was, a healthy and bouncy little flicker!

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 16:22

@Pasta, my son is 3 and half now Smile bigger age gap than I wouldv'e liked, but my son was a wonderful surprise and we wanted to sort out our careers and buy a house before having another - all done now so I'm rearing to go!! I had an early scan with my son at 7 weeks too - it was lovely! He was shaped just like a peanut! Sorry to hear about your bleeding - I'm so glad you had the best outcome Smile

dottydally · 31/07/2018 16:43

@PastaSauceHoarder it's so lovely that your mum let you be involved. I am the baby of the family so I never really did any of that.

Oh of course, always pyjama days! I do occasionally think 'what if my webcam accidentally flicked on...'

@springsummerautumnwinter I am also like that with every baby/pregnant woman I see! I find myself looking at maternity clothes too, formal office wear looks like it'll be a nightmare.

@RandomUsernameHere I'm sure the teachers are all used to it! I'm such a crier at things like that - don't even get me started at one born every minute, when they hand the baby to mum/dad... Sad

@rollerskaterdata I'll let you steal it providing you tell us how it goes! Lots of people I know choose not to put photos of their children on Facebook, I'm not sure yet where I sit on it!

Gosh am I really naive to think I wouldn't find out the gender? I think I'd like it to be a surprise. Can you see from the scan though? (I know the person doing it can, but could I?) I'd hate to accidentally find out!

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 16:51

@dotty, I will let you all know how it goes! Look at me talking like I'm pregnant already, I wish! And I also worry about the webcam flicking on when I work from home - glad I'm not the only one! And don't even get me started on formal office maternity wear, I've not seen anything nice or that I think will flatter me to date (I'm only 5'0!)

I like to think I'd be able to wait this time. I absolutely had to find out with DS, DH didn't want to know but I talked him round Wink but I genuinely think I'd like a surprise this time so hopefully I won't crack. I also worry about being able to see at the 20 week scan - hopefully someone on here can shed some light?

RandomUsernameHere · 31/07/2018 17:53

We didn't find out the sex, if you tell the sonographer you don't want to find out then they can tell you when to look away during the scan Smile

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 18:31

thanks @RandomUsernameHere, that's good to know!

Pinkroseuk · 31/07/2018 18:46

Has anyone thought about what to decorate the babies room?
We moved last year and have painted one room a pale lemon with the idea of going with a grey and lemon elephant theme :)
Hubby has also just finished painting the hall stairs and landing and opted for the silk wipeable paint in case there is ever messy fingers!

PastaSauceHoarder · 31/07/2018 18:56

Good plan, @Pinkroseuk! Your future nursery sounds lovely, very soft and sweet colours. Smile
My daughter has the biggest room in the house so if we were to have another little girl I'd just put another crib in there and have them share. If we had a boy I'd do up our spare bedroom, I was thinking a cute jungle theme or something along the line of animals. Its currently painted the most hideous highlighter green colour and is just used as storage!

Pinkroseuk · 31/07/2018 19:16

Thanks @PastaSauceHoarder :) we wanted it to be fairly gender neutral.
That sounds like a good plan - we have four bedrooms so currently rattling about! The box room we use as a study as we tried to get a single bed in but then couldn't shut the door!
Love the idea of a jungle theme too :)

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 19:50

I like those themes @pasta and @pinkrose, I've been dreaming about doing a nursery up and already know which room in our new house will be the nursery. I'm not sure about the theme though, I'm not very creative! I also want something gender neutral but struggling for ideas - time to google I think Wink

Pinkroseuk · 31/07/2018 20:05

@rollerskaterdata I find Pinterest has some lovely ideas - some are so easy to copy too :)

rollerskaterdata · 31/07/2018 20:17

@Pinkrose, I've heard other people mentioning Pinterest being good for getting ideas. Can you look without an account? I don't have any social media (apart from mn!) lol

Pinkroseuk · 31/07/2018 20:41

@rollerskaterdata I'm not sure you can without an account- you can do secret boards though that no one can see if that helps? You just have to have an email to signup I think

dottydally · 31/07/2018 21:13

I'm just home from bootcamp so will catch up in bed, but I'm so proud that I've just burnt 400 calories! I feel like I need to celebrate as it's the first proper exercise I've done in ages. Just making some toast and thinking about the magnum in the freezer.

Pinkroseuk · 31/07/2018 21:24

Well done @dottydally :) I should have done some exercise tonight- in stead I have sat on the sofa with a bowl of raspberries so was kind of healthy!

PastaSauceHoarder · 31/07/2018 21:33

I ate like four blackberries today, does that count?! 😂
Well done @dottydally, think I'll join you in that ice cream and grab myself an Magnum (knock-off Aldi version for me though Wink).

dottydally · 31/07/2018 22:07

@rollerskaterdata you'll be pregnant before you know it! I'm really excited for you. Definitely not the only one, I stick a post it over mine. I'm a fair bit taller than you (nearly 5'10) so have a few more options perhaps, but the selection really isn't good. I'm trying to remember what people have worn to work in the past...

@RandomUsernameHere I'm so pleased!! I'd be worried about ruining it for myself when I know I really want to wait. Cue me purchasing endless grey/yellow/white outfits!

@Pinkroseuk I hadn't given it any thought but might be using your design now! I love that it would suit either a boy or a girl. I want it to be something magical, I love the complete belief children have, it's a shame it's lost as adults. I can't wait to do things like Father Christmas, the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy!

Raspberries are lovely! I often eat frozen ones straight out the freezer as a treat, but I know that's strange!

@PastaSauceHoarder Of course it counts! Someone bought in homemade tiffin today and I told myself it was healthy because it had raisins in it..

Magnums are a treat, we've only got them because they were on offer! I managed to resist and just had my toast. Now in bed, knackered, but still thinking about that bloody magnum...

cupcakesandglitter · 31/07/2018 22:37

@PastaSauceHoarder the Aldi ones are just as good!!

@dottydally omg well done, what bootcamp did you do?!

OP posts:
Pinkroseuk · 01/08/2018 06:46

@dottydally yes I can't wait for Father Christmas and the Easter bunny either!

I always get fresh fruit but the frozen ones sounds like a good idea - think I will try that :)

We love magnums too - I also love the exotic soleros which I tell myself are healthier as they have orange and mango in!
