Anyone else waiting to TTC?

I thought we could keep each other company while we wait!

Your age/DH age: 29/39
Baby #: This will be #2
When are you TTC: I think we should start in June when DS is 2 but we are so broody it might be sooner
Why are you waiting: We are doing some house renovations at the moment & sorting out some stuff financially. Everything seems a bit up in the air & I can only stress about a couple of things at a time. I'm looking forward to life settling down only to have a newborn mess it all up again Grin
What are you doing to keep busy?: I'm project managing house renovations & enjoying one-on-one time with DS before he (hopefully) becomes a big brother. DH & I are having a huge joint birthday party in September for my 30th & his 40th so I'm enjoying planning that!

I just lost my whole message because I have fat fingers. Ugh.

@em, we're off to Cyprus in summer too! Where are you going? I do worry how I'd feel if I was pregnant though. Hopefully not too sick.

@Jellies, I think it's just such a new risk they haven't done enough research yet unfortunately. Ours was a medium risk area and I do feel reassured by the test. We might consider paying for some additional antenatal scans though. It's now been six weeks since we've returned and I do think we might start the next fertile week, even if that's only 7 weeks.

@mussie, I will really miss salami!

dottydally · 23/05/2018 20:01

@TheOneWithTheBaby @mussie you can't eat salami?!?!? Sad

mussie · 23/05/2018 20:05

@dottydally @TheOneWithTheBaby you can!! If you either a) cook it, or b) freeze it for four days first. The only thing you can't do is spontaneously decide to have uncooked salami - you'll need to preempt your raw salami desires by four days 🤷🏼‍♀️ you could always just be very prepared and have a pack of salami in the freezer ready to go

dottydally · 23/05/2018 20:25

@mussie @TheOneWithTheBaby oh that's so sad! I'm never going to be organised enough for that Sadwhat did you miss most?

TheOneWithTheBaby · 23/05/2018 20:29

I always find frozen cold cuts taste a bit odd afterwards though. I might just be grumpy about it for months haha.

rollerskaterdata · 23/05/2018 21:28

Also a lover of cheeses and meats here (as well as ice cream). I did not enjoy giving those or alcohol up in my last pregnancy but obviously needs must lol! (and I'm not organised enough to cook/freeze beforehand!)

UntilTheVeryEnd · 23/05/2018 22:03

I’m surprised no one has said they missed the caffeine! Decaf tea is just not tea period... I need at least 2 cups of tea in a morning to function. I know the increased risked of miscarriage and caffeine hence why we give it up but it certainly makes for a grumpy mama for 9 months!

At least now you can have runny eggs! You couldn’t last time... that’s a mini win!

On the plus side DH home tomorrow yay! Hoping to have the “shall I book my coil removal” talk 🙊

Hope everyone is well x

Jxtina86 · 23/05/2018 22:25

I'm dreading giving up the cheese - especially if any potential pregnancy falls over Christmas. I live for the cheese board!

Can't drink caffeinated drinks anyway as they give me awful stomach ache so already on the decaf tea. Will miss being able to have the odd glass of red though and a well mixed G&T. Speaking of, is anyone planning to avoid alcohol completely when TTC?

cupcakesandglitter · 23/05/2018 23:00

Wow I can't believe I missed so much 😂😂

I'm v upset about all this food that has to be given up/overprepared... all worth it though ;)

Also super jealous of you girls going on holiday 😂 I need a break out of this blood country

@Jxtina86 I'm trying to slowly cut out alcohol - I think I'll completely cut it out when TTC! Are you thinking about cutting it out?

cupcakesandglitter · 23/05/2018 23:01

@happytobemrsg I'm glad you've come to a decision - as annoying as it is, I think it's best to be sensible... when it happens for you hopefully it'll all work out nicely and everything will be sorted 😊 x

Jxtina86 · 23/05/2018 23:07

@cupcakesandglitter I'm definitely considering it. Not sure how much it affects your chances but guess it would just be good health-wise. Suggested that DH might want to do the same (likewise with caffeine) - the look on his face was a picture! I was like well you keep saying you want a summer baby so...! 😉

Pebblespony · 23/05/2018 23:09

I kept up 2 cups of coffee all through my last pregnancy. Helped with tiredness. I'm going to keep drinking while ttc.

Pebblespony · 23/05/2018 23:12

You can definitely eat ice cream. It's just the cone machine stuff that's not recommended & that's because of the machine, I think.

Amz8898 · 24/05/2018 06:57

Coffee is my life 😬 . I think you can still have a little bit tho .... god I would be like a zombie if I couldn't have coffee . Can you eat nuts now when your pregnant? You couldn't when I was expecting my 1st ???? God I might have to google a list I bet everything's changed again 😱xxxxx

NoseringGirl · 24/05/2018 08:07

You can have nuts now. I think the recommended caffeine limit is 200mg per day so a couple of cups of instant or filter coffee is fine. I was always careful about places like Starbucks though as they tend to be higher caffeine than the stuff you'd have at home.

mussie · 24/05/2018 08:09

It's 200mg of caffeine a day that they recommend, and tea is about 40mg and coffee about 100mg? I don't usually have more than two cups a day, so it should work out ok for me. As long as I don't overdose on caffeine by eating loads of chocolate 😂

dottydally · 24/05/2018 08:11

So many things I'll have to give up SadI don't tend to get coffee out but always have one in the car on the way to work. We have a Nespresso machine, can I have a couple of those a day? I'm not a big fan of tea so no worries there.

I also have a can of coke each day with my lunch (yes I know how bad it is for me) but presumably they've got caffeine too?

I've got a bit of a baby radar at the minute, there's a lady at work who I have said for weeks is pregnant and she's just announced it today! I am a bit jealous...

mussie · 24/05/2018 11:10

I have a nespresso machine too - the caffeine isn't nearly so bad as a Starbucks. A normal pod is 60mg, and a lungo is 83mg. And of course the decaf pods are 0 or 1mg or something. A tall or grande Starbucks is 150mg, and a venti is 225mg. But then Starbucks do decaf as well so there's always that. Coke has about the same as tea, but they do decaf coke now too! Can you tell I've been reading up 😂 I used an app and tracked my caffeine intake for a week a while back, and it was really interesting. I only really went over the 200mg on days when I'd been to Starbucks 🙈

Jelliestogether · 24/05/2018 17:03

@theone that's good to know that the test was negative! I would take that as a sign to be good to go! Like you 8 weeks isn't that long really in the grand scheme of things

Amz8898 · 24/05/2018 17:24

I have about 4 cups per day or a large one from Greggs and cup in the afternoon..... never know I might hate it when I'm pregnant 😉 I do drink a lot of Diet Coke I will have to check that 🤔xxxxxx

dottydally · 25/05/2018 09:00

Ok so I think plans here have changed. I'm now thinking maybe we just wait to Christmas and then just 'see what happens'. Eg. Not preventing but not tracking or anything like that.

rollerskaterdata · 25/05/2018 09:27

I'm the weirdo that doesn't like tea, coffee or coke! Believe me I've tried I just can't stand the taste of any of them! Which means when I'm tired I have no go to, it sucks! Chocolate, however, is my LIFE. Surely there can't be that much caffeine in it you have to give it up in pregnancy???!!! I literally need chocolate to survive.

rollerskaterdata · 25/05/2018 09:28

@dotty when were your original plans to TTC?

dottydally · 25/05/2018 09:36

@rollerskaterdata not a weirdo at all! I didn't like tea or coffee until I was about 20 (and I think life was better when I didn't drink it). I'm still not a tea lover but I do like peppermint and green tea.

I think I'd be more worried about the sugar in chocolate, although I don't eat much chocolate at all. I've got a weakness for things like carrot/celery and hummus/dips though. It seems healthy but I'm not sure it is..

Originally next summer, so a year from now. Now will be about 6 months away!

NoseringGirl · 25/05/2018 09:52

@rollerskaterdata there's some caffeine in chocolate that you need to be aware of if you're drinking caffeinated drinks so you don't end up going over the limit. If chocolate is the only thing you're having with caffeine in though, it's unlikely to push you over the limit.
