Anyone else waiting to TTC?

I thought we could keep each other company while we wait!

Your age/DH age: 29/39
Baby #: This will be #2
When are you TTC: I think we should start in June when DS is 2 but we are so broody it might be sooner
Why are you waiting: We are doing some house renovations at the moment & sorting out some stuff financially. Everything seems a bit up in the air & I can only stress about a couple of things at a time. I'm looking forward to life settling down only to have a newborn mess it all up again Grin
What are you doing to keep busy?: I'm project managing house renovations & enjoying one-on-one time with DS before he (hopefully) becomes a big brother. DH & I are having a huge joint birthday party in September for my 30th & his 40th so I'm enjoying planning that!

@cupcakesandglitter
The below message is for you to 😉xxxxxxx

I've ordered loads of tests and ovulating sticks from amazon they should be here today . Oh we DTD yesterday and there was blood after??? I went on the depo injection because of a ectoprum on my cervix that used to bleed and cause pain but I thought it would of gone with the hormones off the injection???? Any ideas ??? There is no blood this morning tho 🤔xxxxx

Amz8898 · 22/05/2018 07:23

@dottydally I took my belly bar out with my first pregnancy, but can buy the pregnancy bars there bigger for when you a bump .... ekkk I can't wait to have a bump .😝xxxxxx

NoseringGirl · 22/05/2018 09:42

@dottydally I've got the top and bottom of my belly button pierced. You can get flexy plastic bars to put in if the metal ones start to feel uncomfortable as the bump grows. Apart from taking them out for scans and birth, I've kept mine in for both pregnancies.

happytobemrsg · 22/05/2018 10:21

Update: DH & I have decided to wait longer before ttc#2. I'm not yet ready to deal with the changes from going from one DC (still easy to get out, babysitters will happily have him leaving me time for myself or quality time with DH, no nighttime feeds). We will think about it again next year. I actually feel strangely relieved. We are hoping house renovations will be done by October so it'll be nice to enjoy the new house. It's also nice having more one on o e time with DS and not worrying about having to split my attention just yet. We still don't want a huge age gap, just maybe 4 years instead of 3.

mussie · 22/05/2018 10:36

@dottydally I know right! I was thinking it was a very momentous occasion, and then I said it to DH and he just shrugged 😂 glad you guys get it. I'll announce again in three weeks when I've finished the pack, no doubt 😅

@happytobemrsg glad you've made a decision that feels right for your family. Enjoying your new house will be lovely, and the older your DS is, the more involved and excited he'll be about a new arrival ☺️

dottydally · 22/05/2018 11:26

@NoseringGirl @Amz8898 @UntilTheVeryEnd @cupcakesandglitter I'm pleased to hear that! My tummy looks weird without it. I think I have the potential to get massive though (not very tall in the body) so we will have to see.

@happytobemrsg I'm pleased you feel relieved that the pressure is off now. I'd definitely be enjoying your house and DS for a little while. 4 years isn't that much of an age gap - you could look to have another just as your DS goes to school? I think that's quite a common gap. Will you be staying with us or retiring from the thread for a while?

dottydally · 22/05/2018 11:29

@mussie yes!! We'll have a glass of wine with you when you finish the pack in three weeks.

I did realise, we started this thread over three months ago! I've got about a year to go so I'm hoping it goes as quickly as the past three months have.

Sessy19 · 22/05/2018 11:34

I’m 36, OH 35. Togetger for 4.5yrs.
We’re going to try for baby#1 together from September.
OH has two children from previous relationship, and took some time to settle into the idea of have another child whilst not resident parent. Divorce guilt. He is currently deployed overseas with the Army, and returns in Sept. Also, my sister is marrying in Bahamas in December and I am bridesmaid, so weighing up the clock ticking vs Zika concerns. I’m not impatient yet but do anticipate some TTC delays due to my age.
Had a Fertility MOT at Create last Sept, and advised no significant concerns, I’m healthy, fit and active, non smoking, don’t drink a lot, but age is against me. Also advised to consider egg-freezing after 37th birthday.
Also not sure how SS11 and SD8 will react to sharing their dad, I’m sure they’ll be fine, but BM will almost certainly have a meltdown which is usually a vehicle for demanding extra money...so budgeting for an increase in CM, whilst also identifying coping strategies to not allow stress to impact pg.

Fabricwitch · 22/05/2018 11:39

Your age/DH age: 26&26
Baby #: 1 Grin
When are you TTC: Hopefully July/August
Why are you waiting: We our living with my parents while waiting for our house sale to go through.

It's driving me crazy! I feel like my whole life is on hold!

mussie · 22/05/2018 17:28

Welcome @Fabricwitch and @Sessy19! Sessy there's plenty here who have been travelling to zika countries, hopefully they'll be along soon to give you some advice. And it must be so tough with your DH away! But I'm sure September will come along in no time.

@dottydally absolutely 🥂 not too much wine though, I'll have to start trying to clean my act up. When TTC, do you just go teetotal for the TWW? Or is it the whole month? 🤔 don't want to be abstaining when I don't have to, although I suppose it's good for your health to keep it minimal anyway.

dottydally · 22/05/2018 17:54

@mussie I don't tend to drink much unless there's a reason (although sometimes that's just the pub on a Friday!) so I would probably give it up completely. I do love a glass of red though! I feel like the odd glass would be ok (but I'd obviously give up once I got my bfp!). You never know when you might be pregnant and I wouldn't drink excessively so think it's fine. I've got a year to consider it! What will you do?

rollerskaterdata · 22/05/2018 18:02

welcome @until, sessy and fabric!

@cupcakes, I LOVE ben and jerrys! 9 months without it would be a nightmare!

@dotty, I also have my belly pierced but don't wear it so wasn't a problem for me with first pregnancy, although I want to wear it again now so good to hear you can buy pregnancy friendly ones! My many piercings are always getting me into trouble, I had an MRI a few days ago and had the arduous task of taking them all out!

@happy, it's good to hear you've made a decision that you feel is right for you. I also worry about missing the ease of having just one DC, mine is 3 1/2 and so independent, let's me sleep in, is happily left at babysitters as it's just one baby to look after. It's quite scary thinking that they may not be so willing with more than one!

@mussie, I've wondered about the same thing! I was thinking just for the TWW? (but can see the benefits throughout TTC). What does everyone else think?

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 22/05/2018 20:04

@Mussie @rollerskaterdata I was wondering about drinking during TWW too as we’re going to be trying and TWW’ing during our honeymoon and I’d love a cocktail. I think as long as you don’t get drunk it’s okay. I have read though that during early pregnancy it’s an “all or nothing” scenario.

Jelliestogether · 22/05/2018 21:02

@happy glad you've come to a decision that feels right for you as a family.

Lots of new people on here struggling to keep up! As been really busy with work and the house renovations. Although off to zika country soon and then once I am back, fingers crossed my OH will agree to ttc!

UntilTheVeryEnd · 22/05/2018 21:05

Hello @sessy and @fabricwitch

Sessy, I do know how you feel a little bit, my DH is away 6 months of the year as well. Makes TTC that little bit harder but worth it in the end. September will be here before you know it.

The drinking question is always so hard... me personally, I don’t drink anyway so giving up for pregnancy and TTC wasn’t an issue. I think it is personal choice tho - women have been having babies forever and drinking so the odd 1 or 2 while TTC can’t be so harmful? I have a friend who chose to have the odd glass of wine while pregnant (not something that I would do) and her kids have all turned out fine 😂
I found giving up soft cheese the hardest thing! I LOVE Brie and craved it like mad - is it shameful that I caved on a few occasions when the temptation was overwhelming (in my slight defence it was cooked) anyone else a cheese lover???

NoseringGirl · 22/05/2018 21:09

@happytobemrsg glad you're feeling good about having made that decision. Enjoy your house renovations! Maybe we need a support thread for that too, I feel like we're finally getting somewhere with ours but still have loads to do!

Welcome @Sessy19 and @Fabricwitch

When I started TTC the first time around I gave up alcohol completely then when it took ages I started having the odd drink. The second time around I drank as I normally would and even when out and had a few too many the week before my BFP. I don't touch a drop in pregnancy though. I heard the saying 'drink till it's pink' recently which refers to the pink line on the pregnancy test. I'm taking it as my TTC motto now!

mussie · 22/05/2018 21:40

I don't drink huge amounts - maybe a few beers a week. But I often use it to destress and relax after a long day, so will obviously have to find something else to resort to that's more pregnancy friendly! Maybe just non-alcoholic beer. And I suppose until the placenta is formed and has begun the direct blood supply to baby, then surely blood alcohol level doesn't matter too much? But I've not seen any studies on it so can't say for sure. Will maybe read up on it a bit before July! I'll probably be similar to you @NoseringGirl, and be stricter to start with, then if it takes a while, relaxing it a bit.

@UntilTheVeryEnd if it's cooked it's perfectly safe!! Enjoy all the cooked Brie your heart desires 🧀

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 22/05/2018 22:14

@noseringgirl. “Drink til it’s pink” is a good motto to have. I think I might join you with that being something I’ll live by.

Em0203 · 22/05/2018 22:32

Hi all! Thought I’d join in!

24 and DH 31

We are waiting until after our holiday.. I have one month left of the pill which begins on Thursday this week Smile I have purposely waited to stop my pill once we come back from holiday as didn’t want to randomly come on whilst we were away, however part of me wants to just stop pill now (so impatient) very excited now Smile

TheOneWithTheBaby · 23/05/2018 05:38

@Sessy, we've recently been to a Zika country. DH got a blood test to check for anti bodies, as you normally have to wait six months. The doctor at the private clinic made it clear that it's unknown how precise the test is, but we are still going with it. Women are meant to wait 8 weeks I think, which isn't too long. When there, used a lot of insect repellent and only got a coupe of bites each. I know that's enough obviously, but I still felt a bit reassured that the Mosquitos didn't eat us alive.

I'm not sure I'd gonin pregnancy though I have to say.

My DH is now taking some vitamin pills, but that's all he's doing.
I do think I would miss a lot of food. Alcohol I don't mind that much, but I love cheese. And can you really not have ice cream? I also think I've heard you can't have cured meat like ham and salami? I would miss those the most as I olive them!

Amz8898 · 23/05/2018 07:08

Yeah we have booked for turkey next year so ideally want to fall in the next month or so or I will have to stop ttc till march April time and go with a bump ..... don't want to wait that long tho . Well I think my injection is running out out, I'm have really bad PMT, sore boobs , tired . I'm not used to this as I haven't had any period for 6 month . Any ideas on anything to balance my hormones out. I'm like a lunatic hahaha 😬🤣🤣

mussie · 23/05/2018 07:45

Welcome @Em0203! That's so exciting, not long to wait at all! Where are you going on holiday?

And @TheOneWithTheBaby, the NHS doesn't advise against ice cream in general, but of course it does advise against unpasteurised milk, so I suppose you'd need to check the labels. I doubt anywhere sells ice cream made from unpasteurised milk though! And cooked meat like ham is fine, cured meats like salami and chorizo need to either be cooked first or put in the freezer for a few days first, to kill potential parasites. It's a lot to remember isn't it 🙈 I'll just live off steamed broccoli to make life easier 😂

@Amz8898 no advice I'm afraid! Hope you feel back to normal soon!

Em0203 · 23/05/2018 07:52

@mussie we are off to Cyprus.. Smile just wishing I could come off the pill now, but coming on when on holiday is too much of a risk haha! Confused

Jelliestogether · 23/05/2018 09:41

I'm also with the drink til it's pink motto! Although I don't drink loads anyway. Although will definitely find it harder to give up camembert!! That is my favourite!!
@em you'll be back from your holiday before you know it!!
@theone that's interesting that the Drs are still not sure how good the test is anyway! Makes me think what's the point of testing for it! Yup only 8 weeks for women which isn't too long but not sure I'll be able to last that long! As although I am going to a high risk country my actual risk is low due to the altitude!

NoseringGirl · 23/05/2018 09:59

The giving up foods is one of the things I'm not looking forward to! I've had gestational diabetes in both my pregnancies (there's a strong link with PCOS) and it was diagnosed at 13 weeks last time. So I'll basically be on a heavily restricted diet as soon as I get that positive test. All worth it though (as I told myself for 29 weeks in 2016 while I lived on a diet of babybel and nuts).
