TTC #1, Cycle 1. Anyone In?

Hi all,
Longtime lurker, occasional commenter, rare poster here.
DH and I decided to start to TTC after much deliberation recently.
I've been on the pill for 16 years and haven't had a natural period in that time! Had my withdrawal bleed which started on 15th Jan and think I may have ovulated on Thursday 2nd Feb. I was doing OPKs (I know - first cycle, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going all in!) and got an almost-positive then - didn't have any more OPKs with me to test slightly later in the day.
DTD numerous times in what I'm estimating is my fertile week (working on the basis that my cycle is 28 days but don't really know at the moment).
So now the waiting begins.
Anyone in the same position or want to join?
Advice and your stories welcomed!

Thanks @Rmad6716 fx for the next cycle for us!

jemimafuddleduck · 30/04/2018 19:28

So, update:

I went to the doctors just to have a chat and he ordered some blood tests. I've just had a phone call to say my FSH is 17.4 and should be between 1-9. I've got a phone appointment on Friday so will find out more then.

I had the test on day 4 and was will on my period.

Of course I've googled it and am reading all sorts which is terrifying me! I know I need to just wait to see what the doctor says, but can anyone advise me on this? Does the fact that it was on CD4 (and therefore slightly late) make a difference? I usually ovulate around CD11-12.

I'd be really grateful for any input. Trying not to freak out but failing 😕 I've posted on the infertility board as well as I feel like people over there could be quite knowledgeable!

@jemimafuddleduck I’m no help I’m aftaid but fingers crossed it’s nothing to worry about xx

Pinkroseuk · 30/04/2018 21:07

@jemimafuddleduck sorry I can't be any help but keeping my fingers crossed for you :) x

jemimafuddleduck · 30/04/2018 21:37

Literally every site I go on says it's a sign of perimenopause or premature ovarian failure, both of which are bad news and in those cases IVF success rates are extremely low 😭😭😭

I know I need to wait to speak to my doctor and that Dr Google is the worst thing but right now I'm feeling 😭😭

Have spoken to DH who has been great.

@jemimafuddleduck sorry I can't really be any help either. I would just try and keep distracted until Friday so you don't google too much. Keeping everything crossed for you

Rmad6716 · 01/05/2018 12:34

Fingers crossed @Unicorn234 👍🏻

@jemimafuddleduck Sorry to hear and I totally understand you will be panicking Thanks I don't know anything about FSH levels but Hopefully you'll know more once you speak to the doctor - I read your post on the other board and sounds like it's positive that you are ovulating X

jemimafuddleduck · 01/05/2018 12:50

@Rmad6716 @howiseverynametaken thanks for your messages.

I've managed to move the appointment forward to tomorrow so should know more then. I still have a progesterone test to have next week to check whether I've definitely ovulated, and I imagine they'll ask for another fsh test at the start of my next cycle to confirm levels.

I'm trying to stay positive but to be honest today I just feel devastated. I know it's silly without knowing the full facts.

I was meant to ovulate today and had pain in that area for a couple of hours-
Was uncertain I was actually ovulating so hoping this was actually the case today -
Has anyone else had this feeling?! Thanks

emdoc · 01/05/2018 19:14

@jemimafuddleduck sorry to hear about your results! That must be so scary. I'm glad they moved you up so that you get the information much sooner. I'm sending you positive thoughts Flowers hopefully they repeat it and it's all normal!

Pinkroseuk · 01/05/2018 19:15

Hope all goes well tomorrow @jemimafuddleduck - let us know how you get on :) glad you could see them earlier in the week - we have to book appointments 4-6 weeks in advance at our surgery!

Unicorn234 · 01/05/2018 19:42

Well my spotting ended up being AF 😭
The last two cycles I have been regular and now AF has arrived 5 days early so totally messed up my cycle. Now I really don't know where I stand with ovulating😢

Englishpetal89 · 02/05/2018 07:18

So I thought I was ovulating - mucus and opk indicated so - but no rise in temperature has happened 😟

Super confused.

sailorcherrie · 02/05/2018 07:34

@jemimafuddleduck I hope you get on ok today! 💜

It's CD30 today meaning that I've passed the point for a "normal" 28 day cycle this month!

Seem to be having a bit of a temp rise the past few days but my temp tracking is all over the place so don't know how reliable that is.

I didn't do an OV test yesterday but couldn't resist this morning - still that bloody flashing smiley face! Although the actual visible line on the stick itself is pretty faint.

Gunna give it till I'm past CD35 before POAS but I'm already driving myself nuts symptom spotting; I just "feel" different - probably optimism, I've got sensitive nipples and my boobs seem bigger, when usually before a period my whole boobs ache for the week before, and taking the conception supplements is making me feel nauseous as hell in the morning! I've konked out on the couch after work 3 night so far but that could just be general work-related tiredness!

TTC joys strike again 🤣

sailorcherrie · 02/05/2018 07:38

Another weird one for the symptom spotting;

Two days running I've asked what milk was in my coffee at work!

I'm lactose sensitive and I can tell the difference between skimmed, semi-skimmed and whole milk from the smell before it touches my lips but twice I've asked whoever made the teas/coffees because my coffee smelt creamy and it was my usual skimmed milk both times.

Weird freaky smelling symptoms 🙈

jemimafuddleduck · 02/05/2018 08:37

@sailorcherrie I'd be POAS now if I were you! (But then I am a bad influence!)

It's just a telephone appointment today but I've done lots of research and have lots of questions for her. The infertility board on here has been really helpful.

All of the research I've done is pointing to the fact that I'll need egg donation but I'm trying not to get too worried at the moment (easier said than done!)

Having said that I've had a solid smiley and have been continuing to DTD every other day. If I am ovulating it was either yesterday or today so didn't want to miss out just in case!

@jemimafuddleduck hope everything goes well with your appt xx

jemimafuddleduck · 02/05/2018 15:50

Thanks all.

I have spoken to my doctor on the phone. She has said for me to have my progesterone test (which is already planned for next Tuesday) sand she's going to refer me for a scan.

She's reassured me that we will be referred to the fertility clinic following those tests and won't be needed to wait for the mandatory 18 months.

I'm still a little unclear as to what they'll do at the scan but I'm sure I'll find out. She said I should get a letter within a couple of weeks...

@sailorcherrie Wow, thank you, that's so helpful!

7 weeks though... in my position do you think it's worth paying to go private?? What sort of cost do you think I'd be looking at for that?

Do people usually come for that scan with heir partners or just on their own if it's quite a quick procedure?

WaitingForThatBFP · 02/05/2018 17:45

@jemimafuddleduck @sailorcherrie the scan that you’ve mentioned is the one I had last week.. 7 weeks is a long time.. although with my doctors I was lucky enough to have an option of 3 different clinics which were close to me and the earliest date I got was 2 weeks after my referral.. here’s hoping you’ll manage to get one just as soon x

jemimafuddleduck · 02/05/2018 18:01

@WaitingForThatBFP have you had your results yet? Without reading back through the messages I can't remember what you said about it sorry!

How long did it take from your doctor saying that you could have a scan to receiving your letter about it? My dr said a couple of weeks...

OP posts:
WaitingForThatBFP · 02/05/2018 18:16

@jemimafuddleduck at the appointment the sonographer said all looks ok but for full details I’ll need to make an appointment with my doctor so I have that booked for the 15th...

I received the letter a week after I’d been to the doctors and then Managed to book my appointment for two weeks later x
